Susan Conners
FOX LAKE - Susan Conners, 85, of Fox Lake, died on Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, at the Barrett House, Fox Lake.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 27, at 11 a.m., at the Annunciation Catholic Parish, Fox Lake. The Rev. Michael Wild will officiate. Burial will be in Annunciation Parish cemetery, township of Trenton.

Mrs. Conners was born on April 19, 1915, in Madison, the daughter of John and Della (Remy) Sikhart. She was married on July 3, 1944, to John Paul Conners in Madison.

Mrs. Conners was raised in various areas of south eastern Wisconsin, particularly in the Mineral Point area. Following her high school graduation, she furthered her education through Whitewater State Teachers College and began her teaching career in Deerfield. After her marriage, she and her husband moved to Waupun, then to Fox Lake in 1947, where they owned and operated Conners Corner Hardware for 32 years.

Mrs. Conners was also a seventh and eighth grade teacher for 19 years at St. Patrick's Catholic School, Beaver Dam, retiring in 1980. She and her husband enjoyed their second residence in Weslaco, Texas, during the years of 1983 through 1995. She was a member of the Fox Lake Women's Club, a volunteer for local area girl scout troops, found pleasure in gardening, crocheting, needlepoint and refinishing furniture. She was a member of Annunciation Parish, Fox Lake, where she taught CCD in her earlier years, a member of St. Pais 10th, Weslaco, Texas, she worked as an office assistant and an Eucharistic Minister.

Survivors include one son, John (Anne) Conners, Thiensville; one daughter, Anne (Wayne) Martin, Plymouth, Minn; four grandchildren, Gary (Vivian) Conners, Robert Conners, Kelly Martin, and Katie Martin; relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, John, on July 25, 1989.

Friends may call on Wednesday, Dec. 27, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service, at the Annunciation Parish Catholic Church, Fox Lake.

The Kratz-Smedema Funeral Home, Fox Lake, is serving the family.

Kenneth R. Veleke
WAUPUN - Kenneth R. Veleke, 52, of 96 West St., Waupun, died unexpectedly on Friday, Dec. 22, 2000, at Waupun Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 26, at 7 p.m., at the First Christian Reformed Church, Waupun. The Rev. Norman Haan will officiate. A family committal will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 27.

Mr. Veleke was born on July 25, 1948, in Fond du Lac, the son of Horace and Ella Mae (Hoekstra) Veleke. He was married on Jan. 19, 1980, to Jessie Pausma in Waupun.

Mr. Veleke was a 1966 graduate of Waupun High School and was employed at Giddings and Lewis, Fond du Lac, until he was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1968, where he spent a year in Vietnam, from 1969 to 1970. He was employed most of his life at Dodge Correctional Institute in Waupun, where he retired in 1999. He was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church, Waupun, a life member of the VFW, and a member of the POW-MIA veterans group in Waupun.

Survivors include his wife, Jessie Veleke, Waupun; two daughters, Elizabeth Veleke, Oak Forest, Ill., and Michelle Veleke, Worth, Ill.; two sons, Michael (Jennifer) Veleke, and Brian Veleke, both of Charlotte, N.C.; one grandson, Gilbert Ross Veleke; his mother, Ella Mae Veleke, Waupun; two sisters, Kathy (Ron) Harmsen, and Betsy (Bob) De Motts, both of Waupun; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Horace, in 1977.

Friends may call on Tuesday, Dec. 26, from 4 to 6:30 p.m., at the Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home, Waupun.

Judith A. Schultz
BROWNSVILLE - Judith Ann Schultz, 50, of N2510 Highway 175, Brownsville, died on Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000, at her home.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 26, at 7 p.m., at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, North Fond du Lac. The Rev. Tom Behnke will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery, Horicon.

Mrs. Schultz was born on Sept. 28, 1950, in Beaver Dam, the daughter of Kenneth and Dorothy (Grimm) Scheberl. She was married on Aug. 16, 1969, to John Schultz at St. John's Lutheran Church, Mayville.

Mrs. Schultz was a 1968 graduate of Mayville High School. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, North Fond du Lac.

Survivors include her husband, John Schultz, Brownsville; three children, Troy (fiancee, Sarah Nelson) Schultz, Theresa, and Tami Riebe and Traci Schultz, both of Fond du Lac; her mother, Dorothy Scheberl, Mayville; two brothers, James (Carol) Scheberl, West Bend, and John (Marla) Scheberl, Fond du Lac; one brother-in-law, James Schultz, Cambridge; one sister-in-law, Loree Schultz, Cambridge; three grandchildren, Rachelle, Ryan and Jory Riebe; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents; her father, Kenneth, in 1996; and one daughter-in-law, Shelly.

Friends may call on Tuesday, Dec. 26, from 4 p.m. until the time of service, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, North Fond du Lac.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul School or Hospice Hope.

Velva D. Steenweg
COLUMBUS - Velva D. "Val" Steenweg, 83, of Columbus, died on Monday, Dec. 25, 2000, at The Larson House, Columbus.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Mrs. Steenweg was born on Aug. 30, 1917, in Columbus, the daughter of Adam and Lillian (Cooper) Doleshal. She was married on May 12, 1953, to Robert J. Steenweg in Chicago.

Mrs. Steenweg was a 1935 graduate of Columbus High School, then was employed as a part-time beautician at Jung Beauty Shop, Columbus. She attended George Washington University and Waukesha County Technical Institute prior to accepting a position with the U.S. Department of Commerce in the Frankfurt, Germany office for two years. She was secretary to directors and consultants in the Office of Housing, Secretary of Defense and Executive Office of the President of the United States from 1946 to 1953. She was employed as the secretary to the director of the School of Nursing for the University of Illinois Medical School. She and her husband moved to Milwaukee where she was employed as an administrative assistant for several dental divisions of General Electric for 26 years before retiring. She was a Raleigh, N.C. resident from 1980 until 1992 and was a Columbus resident since 1992. She was a member of the Olivet Congregational United Church of Christ, Columbus.

Survivors include one brother, John (Carol Helgeson-Doleshal) Doleshal, Sun City West, Ariz.; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband.

Ritchie Brooks
MADISON - Ritchie Brooks, Madison, died on Dec. 20, 2000.

The Cress Funeral Service, Madison, served the family.

Anna Klumpjan
JUNEAU - Anna Klumpjan, 88, a resident of Clearview Long Term Care and Rehabilitation, Juneau, formerly of Beaver Dam, died on Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, at the nursing home.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, Dec. 29, at 11 a.m., at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Beaver Dam. Burial will be in St. Peter's cemetery, Beaver Dam.

Mrs. Klumpjan was born on Oct. 24, 1912, in Germany, the daughter of Heinrich and Alvina (Zech) Koch. She was married on May 23, 1937, to Fred Zemp. She was married on Oct. 21, 1967, to John Klumpjan.

Mrs. Klumpjan was a cheese maker most of her life. She retired from Kraft Foods in 1975. She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church Beaver Dam, the Catholic Women's Society and the Daughters of Isabella.

Survivors include four daughters, Rose (Jermaine) Schears, Beaver Dam, Doris (Don) Sabatke, Ixonia, Barbara (Peter) Schneck, Whitefish Bay, and Margaret (Frank) Recheck, Richmond, Minn.; eight step-children, Helen Gilman, Fred Zemp, Alice Neuman, Edna Multhauf, Louise Mason, John Klumpjan Jr., Judy Brath and Mary Geiger; 14 grandchildren; 36 step-grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Sr. Ottilia Koch, Denville, N.J., and Franziska Evelt, Germany; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Fred, on March 10, 1954; her second husband, John, on March 31, 1994; two brothers; and two sisters-in-law.

Friends may call on Friday, Dec. 29, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service, at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Beaver Dam.

Memorials may be made to the Unified Catholic Parish Schools (U.C.P.S.) of Beaver Dam.

Deanna A. Hollenberg
Deanna Adele Hollenberg, 36, of Beaver Dam, died on Friday Dec. 22, 2000, as a result of an automobile accident in Horicon.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, at 11 a.m., at Grace Presbyterian Church, Beaver Dam. The Rev. Jack Harrison will officiate. Cremation will follow.

Ms. Hollenberg was born on Jan. 20, 1964, in St. Louis, Mo., the daughter of Robert and Jacqueline (Duemler) Hollenberg.

Ms. Hollenberg was a 1982 graduate of Shabbona High School in Illinois. She graduated from the University of Missouri, Columbia, with a bachelors degree in wildlife biology, and received her masters degree in outdoor education from Northern Illinois University. She received her teaching certification from Black Hills State University, S.D. She worked or interned in Ohio, Colorado, South Dakota, Illinois and Missouri. She was currently a naturalist for the Wisconsin DNR at the Horicon Marsh Wildlife Refuge, specializing in educational wildlife programs for children. She was also a substitute teacher in many of the schools in the Dodge County area. She was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church and numerous wildlife and professional organizations. She was loved and will be missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her parents, Les and Jacqueline Barnes, Wisconsin Dells; two sisters, Vicki Hollenberg, Beaver Dam, and Cathy Barnes, San Antonio, Texas, one brother, Steve Barnes, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Hollenberg, in 1975.

Friends may call on Saturday, Dec. 30, from 9 a.m. until the time of service, at Grace Presbyterian Church, Beaver Dam.

Memorials may be made in Deanna's name for furthering wildlife education at the Horicon Marsh.

Orice E. Weiser
WAUPUN - Orice E. Weiser, 84, of 10 S. Forest St., Waupun, died on Tuesday, Dec. 26. 2000, at Rolling Meadows Nursing Home, Fond du Lac.

The funeral will be held on Thursday, Dec. 28, at 11 a.m., at the Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home, Waupun. Entombment will be in Ledgeview Memorial Park, Fond du Lac.

Mr. Weiser was born on April 30, 1916, in Fennimore, the son of Orr and Retta (Irwin) Weiser. He was married on Feb. 18, 1937, to Doretta Weldy in Galena, Ill.

Mr. Weiser was a league leading hitting third baseman for the Fennimore city baseball team as a young man. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1944, where he was stationed in the Philippines as a tank commander with the 775th division. He and his wife moved to Waupun in 1950, where he was employed by the Wisconsin prison systems as a supervisor in its paint and metal industries division. He was a former active member of the Evangelical United Brethren Church, Fennimore.

Survivors include his wife, Doretta Weiser, Clearview Nursing Home, Juneau; one son, Dwight (Joan) Weiser, Fond du Lac; one daughter, Patricia (Roger) Reif, Cascade; one granddaughter, Vicki (Robert) Blecher, Cascade; two grandsons, Scott (Lorrie) Reif, Adell, and Vance (Susan) Reif, Kewaskum; five great-grandchildren; one step-brother, Clair (Lois) Munns, Baraboo; one step-sister, Barbara Adler, Madison; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Paul.

Friends may call on Thursday, Dec. 28, from 9 a.m. until the time of service, at the Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home, Waupun.

Memorials may be made to the Fennimore Dinky Track Association.

John R. Jurek
John R. Jurek, 81, of 110 W. Third St., Beaver Dam, died on Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000, at Beaver Dam Community Hospital.

There will be no funeral service or visitation. Mr. Jurek will be cremated.

Mr. Jurek was born on Oct. 27, 1919, in Chicago, the son of John and Bernice (Babbic) Jurek.

Mr. Jurek lived in Chicago, before moving to Beaver Dam in 1991. He graduated from Crane Technical School, Chicago, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving from 1942 to 1946. He worked at the Swichcraft branch of Rayeton Co., Chicago, then worked as a machinist at Vole Co., Chicago, before retiring.

Survivors include his sister, Loretta Blazek, Randolph; one brother, Jerome Jurek, Los Angeles; three nieces, Sue Moore, Fox Lake, Gloria Tegtmeyer, Champion, Mich., and Barbara Uteg, Chicago,; one nephew, Wayne Gibson, Arlington Heights, Ill.; relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Arthur Jurek; and two sisters, Margaret Oleksy and Emily Jurek. The Murray Community Funeral Home, Beaver Dam, is serving the family.

Earl Hartgerink
WAUPUN - Earl Hartgerink, 79, of Waupun, died on Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000, at his home.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, Dec. 30, at 10:30 a.m., at the First Christian Reformed Church, Waupun. The Rev. Norman Haan will officiate. Burial will be in Alto cemetery.

Mr. Hartgerink was born on April 9, 1921, in Alto, the son of Henry and Helena (Kastein) Hartgerink. He was married on Dec. 3, 1943, to Grace Derksen in Brandon.

Mr. Hartgerink and his wife farmed in the Waupun area for 22 years. He then became employed as a field man by Fall River Canning Company, Markesan, for seven years and was later employed by Waupun Equipment, from which he retired. He was a member of the Dodge County Board, a past member of Waupun Kiwanis Club, served as an elder and deacon in churches of which he was a member and was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church, Waupun.

Survivors include his wife, Grace Hartgerink, Waupun; three sons, Calvin (Anita) Hartgerink, Hale (Lynn) Hartgerink, and Robert (Aime) Hartgerink, all of Waupun; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lloyd (Helen) Hartgerink, Brandon, and Harold (Mary) Hartgerink, Waupun; two sisters, Katherine (Don) Henkes, Sheboygan Falls, and Ardis (Glen) Redeker, Brandon; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by one son, Mark, in 1969, and one brother, Milton.

Friends may call on Friday, Dec. 29, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home, Waupun, and on Saturday, Dec. 30, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service, at the First Reformed Christian Church, Waupun.
