WAUPUN - Fern Cosgrove, 82, of Waupun, died on Tuesday, May 1, 2001, at Waupun Memorial Hospital.

The funeral is pending with the Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home, Waupun.

Marion Gale
Marion Gale, 77, of N8283 Kellom Road, Beaver Dam, died on Saturday, May 5, 2001, at Divine Savior Hospital, Portage.

There will be no funeral service.

Mrs. Gale was born on June 17, 1923, in Milwaukee. She was married to Gerald Gale.

Mrs. Gale was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Gerald Gale, Beaver Dam; two sons; two daughters; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; eight brothers, and one sister.

The Koepsell Funeral Home, Beaver Dam, is serving the family.

Audrey M. Vick
COLUMBUS - Audrey M. Vick, 62, of Columbus, died peacefully on Saturday, May 5, 2001, at the Columbus Center.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday, May 8, at 10 a.m., at the Jones-Jensen Funeral Home, Columbus. The Rev. Bruce Hennington will officiate. Burial will be in St. Jerome cemetery, Columbus.

Ms. Vick was born on Nov. 27, 1938, the daughter of Frank and Lucille (Lyster) Vick.

Ms. Vick grew up in the Columbus-Fall River area. She worked at Green Valley Enterprises, Beaver Dam, then at Northwoods Inc., Portage. She loved country, religious and rock and roll music, especially Elvis Presley. She was active in Special Olympics and won many medals for her accomplishments.

A special thank you is given to Julie Thiede for the love, support and encouragement she gave Audrey for the past 23 years. Audrey was a very special person. Her wonderful smile and giggle will be missed by everyone who knew and loved her.

Survivors include one brother, Donald F. Vick, Fall River; foster mom, Julie Ondrejka Thiede and family, Fall River; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Friends may call on Tuesday, May 8, from 9 a.m. until the time of service, at the Jones-Jensen Funeral Home, Columbus. Memorials may be made to Inc., Portage.

Christine Johnson
WAUPUN - Christine Johnson, 100, of Waupun, died on Sunday, May 6, 2001, at the Christian Home, Waupun.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday, May 8, at 10 a.m., at Pella Lutheran Church, Waupun. The Rev. Kenneth Loehrke will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Mound cemetery, Waupun.

Mrs. Johnson was born on April 9, 1901, in Waupun, the daughter of Samuel and Anna (Vande Zande) Veenhuis. She was married on Sept. 9, 1925, to William Johnson.

Mrs. Johnson was a life long resident of the Waupun area. She was a member of Pella Lutheran Church, Waupun, a member of the Ladies Aid, taught Sunday school and vacation Bible school, and played the organ in church for several years.

Survivors include one daughter, Mabel A. Lemke, Waupun; three grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William, in 1972; one brother, John Veenhuis, and one sister, Gertrude VanRuiswyjk.

Friends may call on Tuesday, May 8, from 9 a.m. until the time of service, at Pella Lutheran Church, Waupun.

The Kohls Community Funeral Home, Waupun, is serving the family.

Robert L. Christopherson
PEMBERTON, N.J.- Robert L. Christopherson, 79, formerly of Horicon, died on Tuesday, May 1, 2001, in Pemberton, N.J.

The funeral will be held on Thursday, May 10, at 11 a.m., at Sacred Heart Parish (formerly St. Malachy Catholic Church), Horicon. The Rev. M. Eugene Kinney will officiate. Burial will be in Oakhill cemetery, Horicon.

Mr. Christopherson was born on March 29, 1922, in Oshkosh, the son of Morgan and Ida (Jensen) Christopherson. He was married on May 20, 1950, to Josefa Sirninger in Vienna, Austria.

Mr. Christopherson was a 1940 graduate of Oshkosh High School. He entered the U.S. Army on Oct. 15, 1940, serving in the Infantry, Military Police, Armored Corps and Recruiting Service. He was a veteran of World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He retired from active duty on June 30, 1965, as a Command Sergeant Major. During his military career he was in combat in Guadalcanal, Rendova, Munda, Bouganville and Luzon, Philippines in World War II.

He served in Austria for three years as occupation in the Four Power Patrol, and spent four years in Germany with the NATO Forces. He was a recipient of the Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star of Valor, and four Battle Stars, which denote four various campaigns in the Asiatic Pacific Theater of Operations. After retiring from the U.S. Army, he worked as an insurance agent for New York Life Insurance, until retiring in 1984.

He was a member of St. Malachy's Catholic Church, Horicon, serving on the church council and as an Eucharistic minister, a lifetime member of both the Voss Philipsky VFW Post No. 8057, and the Seippel Disabled American Veterans Post No. 50, a member of the Horicon American Legion Post No. 157, the Retired Enlisted Association of Washington, D.C., and of the WRMCA (Wisconsin Retired Military Chapter Association).

He moved from Milwaukee and was a resident of Horicon since 1975. He moved to Pemberton, N.J. (in the vicinity of Fort Dix and McGuire AFB) in 1999. He moved in with his nephew, Robert L. Bradley, for his physical and financial well being.

Survivors include two sisters, Geraldine Christopherson, Orland Hills, Ill., and Elaine (Clarence) Staub, Milwaukee; one brother-in-law, Rudolph (Trudy) Sirninger, Livingston, N.J.; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Josefa, and one sister, Virginia.

Friends called on Thursday, May 10, from 10 a.m. until the time of service, at Sacred Heart Parish, Horicon.

Ruth Czoschke
OSHKOSH - Ruth Czoschke, 82, of Oshkosh, died on Friday, May 4, 2001.

The funeral was held on Monday, May 7, at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church, 808 N. Main St., Oshkosh. The Rev. Joel Olson officiated. Burial was in Lake View Memorial Park.

Mrs. Czoschke was born on May 20, 1918, in Beaver Dam, the daughter of Henry and Ida (Goss) Schultz. She was married in 1948, to Elmer Czoschke.

Mrs. Czoschke worked as a secretary at the Winnebago Mental Health Institute for many years, retiring in 1991. She was a member of St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church, Oshkosh.

Survivors include one son, Gordon (Karen) Czoschke, Oshkosh; one daughter, Margaret (Russell) Crossman, Oshkosh; four grandchildren, Crystal (Brandon) Dexter, Shelli Crossman, Peter Crossman, and Matthew Crossman, all of Oshkosh; one brother, Raymond (Dorothy) Schultz, Oshkosh; two sisters-in-law, Erna Schultz, Hustisford, and Lucille Czoschke, Ripon; cousins, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elmer, in June 1981, and two brothers, Harvey and Edward Schultz.

Friends called on Monday, May 7, from 10 a.m. until the time of service, at S. John's Ev. Lutheran Church, Oshkosh.

Memorials may be made to the Christine Ann Center.

The Seefeld Funeral Chapels, Oshkosh, served the family.

Loyal M. Messer
RANDOLPH - Loyal Mae Messer, 93, of the Continental Manor, Randolph, formerly of 116 Lake Crest Drive, Beaver Dam, died on Sunday, May 6, 2001, at the Manor.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday, May 9, at 1 p.m., at the Koepsell Funeral Home, Beaver Dam. The Rev. William Staab will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery, Beaver Dam.

Mrs. Messer was born on Aug. 28, 1907, in Peshtigo, the daughter of John and Mae (Yedica) Skinner. She was married on Nov. 25, 1926, to Lawrence "Larry" W. Messer.

Mrs. Messer was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Stephen's Ev. Lutheran Church, Beaver Dam, and a member of the Ladies Aid. Earlier in her life, Loyal and her husband Larry, managed Kroeger's Grocery Store. They were also superintendents at Oakwood cemetery for over 20 years. In her spare time Loyal enjoyed her grandchildren, playing cards and baking cookies.

Survivors include two daughters, Shirley Leininger, West Bend, and Donna (Kent) McLaughlin, Marathon, Fla.; one son, Richard (Jeanette) Messer, Altoon, Iowa; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; special friends, Richard (Barbara) Koch and their children, Kimberly and Casey; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lawrence, in 1972, and two sisters, Mildred Wienke, and Izenta Richardson.

Friends may call on Wednesday, May 9, from 1 p.m. until the time of service, at the Koepsell Funeral Home, Beaver Dam.

Memorials may be made to St. Stephen's Ev. Lutheran Church, Beaver Dam.

Anna R. Fischer
COLUMBUS - Anna R. Fischer, 89, of Columbus, died on Friday, May 4, 2001, at the Columbus Center.

The funeral was held on Monday, May 7, at 11:30 a.m., at the Vangen Funeral Home, Rio. The Rev. Donald Wiecki officiated. Burial was in St. Patrick's cemetery, Doylestown.

Mrs. Fischer was born on June 15, 1911, in Beaver Dam, the fourth child of eight children, to Frank and Toefilia (Ratcheck) Malkowski. She was married first to Vincent Wylesky Sr., in 1930. She was later married to LeRoy Fischer, in 1955.

Mrs. Fischer worked at the Rio Glove Factory and the Cambria Canning Co. for many years. She lived on her farm in rural Fall River, until becoming a resident at the Columbus Center two years ago. She loved sewing and embroidering, particularly making quilts. She also loved swans and had an extensive collection. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Doylestown, and the Royal Neighbors of America, Camp 6215, Doylestown for over 50 years.

Survivors include two daughters, Margaret Ann Drzonek, Doylestown, and Mary (LaVern) Fischer, Rio; three sons, Joseph (Gloria) Wylesky, and William Wylesky, both of Doylestown, and Robert (Akiko) Wylesky, Fall River; four sisters, Martha Pilchowicz, Milwaukee, Regina (Earl) Allen, Columbus, and Margaret Magyar, and Agnes Reinke, both of Beaver Dam; two daughters-in-law, Gertrude Wylesky, Doylestown, and Beverly Wylesky, Rio; three sisters-in-law, Martha Malkowski, Milwaukee, Gladys Malkowski, Beaver Dam, and Gladys Snell, Montana; 29 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchldren, 10 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Vincent Wylesky, in 1952; her second husband, LeRoy Fischer, in 1956; two sons, Vincent Wylesky Jr., and Lawrence Wylesky; two daughters, Joan Livingston, and Agnes Wylesky; three brothers, Stanley, Ambrose, and Florian Malkowski; two sons-in-law, Earl Drzonek, and Marvin Livingston; seven brothers-in-law, Stanley Pilchowicz, Joseph Maygar, Harlen Reinke, Carter Snell, Clarence (Gerturde) Anthony, John (Viola) Kirley, and Casper Wylesky, and four grandchildren, Richard and Vicki Wylesky, Cindy Holly, and Curtis Wylesky.

Friends called on Monday, May 7, at 9:30 a.m. until the time of service, at the Vangen Funeral Home, Rio.

Nicholas J. F. Beattie
PRAIRIE DU SAC - Graveside services for Nicholas Joseph Frank Beattie, infant son of John and Amy Beattie, were held on Monday, May 7, at the Fountain Prairie cemetery. The Revs. Don Wendt and Fred Rilling officiated.

Survivors include his parents, John and Amy (Price) Beattie, Prairie du Sac; one sister, Paig Beattie, at home; grandparents, Richard and Lynell Pettibone, Rio; grandmother, Sheila Beattie, Fall River; grandfather, Randy (Mari) Price, Columbus; great-grandparents, Fritz and Sally Price, Columbus, and Frank and Dorothy Vander Veen, Randolph; great-grandmother, Dorothy Beattie, Fall River; one aunt, Stacy Fietz, Fall River; godmothers, Melissa Schmutzer, Elroy, and Megan Mosely, Columbus.

The Zeidler Funeral Home, Columbus, served the family.

Gladys E. Krueger
FALL RIVER - Gladys E. Krueger, 86, of 670 N. Main St., Fall River, died on Monday, May 7, 2001, at Columbus Community Hospital.

The funeral will be held on Friday, May 11, at 11 a.m., at the Zion Ev. Lutheran Church, Columbus. The Revs. G.F. Cares and Robert Wilke will officiate. Burial will be in Fall River cemetery.

Mrs. Krueger was born on March 7, 1915, in Friesland, the daughter of Julius and Adella (Draheim) Tesch. She was married on Oct. 7, 1942, to Lawrence Krueger in Friesland.

Mrs. Krueger was a 1932 graduate of the Milwaukee School of Nursing, earning her degree as a registered nurse. She was first employed at Hines Veteran's Hospital, Chicago, and later at the Naval Hospital in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., before traveling to California, where she continued working as an RN and private duty nurse. After marriage, the couple lived in Jacksonville, Fla., then moved to Mechanicsville, Iowa, where she was employed at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Other employment included Beaver Dam Lutheran Deaconess, and Columbus Community Hospital, retiring in 1973. She was a member of Zion Ev. Lutheran Church, Columbus.

Survivors include her husband, Lawrence Krueger, Fall River; three daughters, Laureen "Laurie" (Jerry) Kirchberg, Columbus, Linda Krueger, LaCrosse, and LuAnn (Rick) Weigel, Adrian, Mich.; one son, Lawrence "Butch" (Sandra) Krueger, Colorado Springs, Colo.; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Fern Tesch, Friesland; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Friends may call on Thursday, May 10, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Jones-Jensen Funeral Home, Columbus, and on Friday, May 11, from 10 a.m. until the time of service, at the Zion Ev. Lutheran Church, Columbus.

Memorials may be made to the Zion Ev. Lutheran Church, Columbus.

John J. Handshy
WAUPUN - John Joseph Handshy, of McKinley St., Waupun, died on Monday, May 7, 2001, at his home.

The funeral will be held on Thursday, May 10, at 11 a.m., at Emmanuel Reformed Church, Waupun. The Rev. Rich Bawinkel will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Mound cemetery, Waupun.

Mr. Handshy was born on May 5, 1936, in Green Lake County, the son of William and Martha (Dallman) Handshy. He was married on Nov. 3, 1961, to Arlene Miedema in Randolph.

Mr. Handshy attended school in Markesan and was employed with National Rivet, Waupun, for 35 years. He was an active member of Emmanuel Reformed Church, Waupun, serving as a deacon.

Survivors include his wife, Arlene Handshy, Waupun; two sons, Wesley (Elizabeth) Handshy, Wichita, Kan., and Jason (Brandie) Handshy, Everett, Wash.; two daughters, Ilene (John) Dack, Albion, Mich., and Lisa (fiance Scott Wegner) Streholski, Fond du Lac; seven grandchildren, Amber, Paul, and Bradly Dack, Christopher Handshy, Corey and Jessica Meyer, and Megan Wegner; two step-grandchildren, Michele (Curtis) Bissell and children Silas and Seth, Wichita, Kan., and Gene (Kelly) Brigham and their five children, California; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Friends may call on Wednesday, May 9, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home, Waupun, and on Thursday, May 10, from 10 a.m. until the time of service, at Emmanuel Reformed Church, Waupun.

Memorials may be made to St. Agnes Hospice Hope, Fond du Lac, in John's name.
