Rika Buteyn Vande Zande
WAUPUN - Rika Buteyn Vande Zande, 88, a resident of the Christian Home, Waupun, died on Saturday, May 19, 2001, at the home.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday, May 22, at 2 p.m., at the First Reformed Church, Waupun. The Rev. Rick Boon will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Mound cemetery, Waupun.

Mrs. Buteyn Vande Zande was born on July 3, 1912 in Waupun, the daughter of Henry and Alta (Hulleman) Nyhuis. She was married on May 30, 1936, to Andrew P. Buteyn in Hobart, Ind. She later married William Vande Vande, on April 22, 1983 in Waupun.

Mrs. Buteyn Vande Zande and her husband, Andrew, resided in Waupun until 1967, at which time they moved to the north shore of Fox Lake. During her employment years she worked at National Rivet, and retired from Waupun Memorial Hospital in housekeeping. She and Andrew were also custodians at the First Reformed Church, Waupun for several years. She and her second husband, Bill, had 11 years together. She felt blessed to have two wonderful marriages. She was a member of the First Reformed Church, Waupun, where, during her active years, she was a Sunday school teacher, a member of the choir, and the Women's Guild. Her love and sense of humor throughout her years will be forever cherished by her family and friends.

Survivors include two daughters, Julane (Richard) Johndrow, Midlothian, Va., and Maureen "Teetoo" Buteyn, Beaver Dam; three sons, Ronald (Claraine) Buteyn, Waupun, Philip (Joy) Buteyn, Madison, and Wayne (Liz) Buteyn, Waupun; seven grandchildren, Colleen (Bill) Miles, David (Mary) Johndrow, Rick (Cynthia) Johndrow, Michelle (Brian) Lovell, Matthew (Tammy) Buteyn, Andrew E. Buteyn, and Jennifer (Nathan) Peterson; four great-grandchildren; one step-son, William (Ann) Vande Zande, Fond du Lac; one step-daughter, Joan (Robert) Kindschuh, Redgranite; four step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Jenny Nyhuis, Waupun; special family friends, Mary (Wayne) Siegfried, Beaver Dam; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Andrew P. Buteyn, in September 1980; her second husband, William Vande Zande, in March 1995; one grandson, Tom Buteyn; one sister, and four brothers.

Friends may call on Monday, May 21, from 5 to 7 p.m., at the Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home, Waupun, and on Tuesday, May 22, from 1 p.m. until the time of service at the First Reformed Church, Waupun.

Doris E. Bachmann
APPLETON - Doris E. Bachmann, 87, of Colony Oaks Care Center, Appleton, formerly of 12 N. Henninger St., Mayville, died on Friday, May 18, 2001, at the care center in Appleton.

The funeral will be held on Thursday, May 24, at 2 p.m., at the Koepsell Funeral Home, Mayville. The Rev. Christal Bindrich will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland cemetery, Mayville.

Mrs. Bachmann was born on July 21, 1913, in Caledonia, the daughter of Julius and Elizabeth (Edwards) Mielke. She was married on May 22, 1942, to Harold Bachmann in Portage.

Mrs. Bachmann taught elementary school for 37 years. She was a member of New London United Methodist Church, a former member of Mayville United Methodist Church and a member of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include two daughters, Janet (Wendall) Pierner, Thiensville, and Jean Rae (Harold) Thiele, New London; two grandchildren, Ann Spivey and Scott Pierner; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold Bachmann; one sister, and nine brothers.

Friends may call on Thursday, May 24, from noon until the time of service at the Koepsell Funeral Home, Mayville.

Elaine C. Guenther
Elaine C. Guenther, 63, of 109 Sloan Circle, Beaver Dam, died on Friday, May 18, 2001, at her home.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday, May 22, at 11 a.m., at the First Reformed Church, Waupun. The Rev. Rick Boon will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Memory Gardens, town of Trenton.

Mrs. Guenther was born on June 18, 1937, in Waupun, the daughter of Sydney and Willomina (Yunto) Frens. She was married on June 6, 1958 to Duane A. Guenther in Waupun.

Mrs. Guenther was employed as a crossing guard in Beaver Dam for many years and was dedicated to her job. She was a member of the First Reformed Church, Waupun.

Survivors include her mother, Willomina Frens, Waupun; one son, Wayne Guenther, Beaver Dam; one daughter, Brenda (Bryon) Guenther, Waterloo; one sister, Wilma (Wayne) Van Buren, Waupun; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Sydney Frens, and her husband, Duane A. Guenther.

Friends may call on Monday, May 21, from 5 to 8 p.m., with a closing prayer service by Don Bader at 8 p.m., at the Koepsell Funeral Home, Beaver Dam, and on Tuesday, May 22, from 10 a.m. until the time of service, at the First Reformed Church, Waupun.

Griffith L. Griffith
MIDDLETON - Griffith Lloyd Griffith, 83, formerly of Beaver Dam, died on Friday, May 18, 2001, at Middleton Village Nursing Home.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday, May 22, at 11 a.m., at Grace Presbyterian Church, Beaver Dam. The Rev. Dr. Jack Harrison will officiate. Burial will be in the Randolph cemetery.

Mr. Griffith was born on July 20, 1917, in Chicago, the son of Robert and Hannah Mary (Owen) Griffith. He was married on Nov. 21, 1940, to Katie Owen at Presbyterian Church, Randolph.

Mr. Griffith was educated in the Chicago area. He served in World War II with the U.S. Army in the European Theater. He was in the Normandy invasion, and the Battle of the Bulge, receiving two Purple Hearts and many other medals and awards. He was a past member of the Beaver Dam VFW, a member of the Beaver Dam Rotary Club, a Paul Harris Fellow, and a lifetime member of the Presbyterian Church, USA. He was a resident of Beaver Dam for many years. He worked at the Department of Social Services in Madison for many years.

Survivors include his wife, Katie Griffith, Fitchburg; three daughters, Nancy (Peter) Priegel, Betty (Ron) Rosengren, both of Madison, and Mary Jane (Peter) Smith, Middleton; eight grandchildren; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death one sister, Dilys Hughes, and one brother, Hugh Griffith of Randolph.

Friends may call on Tuesday, May 22, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at Grace Presbyterian Church, Beaver Dam.

The Randolph Community Funeral Home, Randolph, is serving the family.

Laura Farrington
RANDOLPH - Laura Farrington, 79, of Cambria, died on Sunday, May 20, 2001, at Continental Manor Nursing Home, Randolph.

The funeral will be held on Thursday, May 24, at 11 a.m., at the First Presbyterian Church, Cambria. The Rev. Julie WaterDu will officiate. Burial will be in the Cambria cemetery.

Mrs. Farrington was born in the town of Manchester, the daughter of Louis William and Cecil Rhoda (Downey) Pahl. She was married on Jan. 31, 1942, to Delbert Walter Farrington.

Mrs. Farrington was a 1938 graduate of Cambria High School. She held various jobs until her marriage. Following that, the couple moved several times until her husband was sent overseas in the military. When he was discharged from the military service, they moved back to the Cambria area, where they engaged in farming in Welsh Prairie. Shortly after her husband's death in 1987, she moved to the village of Cambria, where she had resided since.

Mrs. Farrington was dedicated to area 4-H clubs, from watching her children participate to becoming a 4-H leader herself. She was a well known leather crafter in the area, having taught many the art of leather crafting. She received the prestigious 4-H "Outstanding Service Award" for 37 years of service. She was a member of the 4-H Columbia County Leader Association. She was a devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church, Cambria, serving as deacon, an elder, and on the board of trustees. She was also a member of the Women's Association of the Electi Society and the Woodside Homemakers Club. In her free time she enjoyed gardening, tending to her beautiful house plants, raising chickens and ducks, canning, reading, playing cards and helping others in her community. She will be sadly missed and mourned by family and friends.

Survivors include six children, Walter (Donna) Farrington, Doylestown, Jean Kiriakos, Kansas City, Mo., James (Joan) Farrington, Rio, Jerry (Judith) Farrington, Soldotna, Alaska, Joseph (Dixie) Farrington, Pardeeville, and Jay (Sherrie) Farrington, Rio; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Marion (George) Thompson, Billings, Mont.; one brother, Lauren (Kate) Pahl, Randolph; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Delbert, on March 16, 1987, and two grandchildren, in infancy.

Friends may call on Wednesday, May 23, from 4 to 8 p.m., at the Kratz-Smedema Funeral Home, Cambria, and on Thursday, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the First Presbyterian Church, Cambria.

Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, Cambria, or the Cambria Chapel fund.

Althea L. Qualman
Althea Louise Qualman, 85, 803 S. University Ave., Beaver Dam, died on Monday, May 21, 2001, at Hillside Manor Nursing Home, Beaver Dam.

The funeral will be held on Friday, May 25, at 12:30 p.m., at the Koepsell Funeral Home, Beaver Dam. The Rev. Mark Lindner will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery, Beaver Dam.

Mrs. Qualman was born on Feb. 29, 1916, in Marcellean, the daughter of William and Corrine (Janish) Nehring. She was married on June 20, 1940, to Earl Schultz in Fox Lake. She then married in 1947, to Walter Rothenberger in Horicon. She was lastly married on June 8, 1963, to Harold Qualman.

Mrs. Qualman was a 1935 graduate of Pardeeville High School, a 1955 graduate of Dodge County Teacher's College, and in 1971 received a bachelor of science degree in upper elementary education from the UW-Oshkosh. She taught school for 19 and one-half years in Dodge County and Beaver Dam. She was a faithful member of St. Stephen's Ev. Lutheran Church, Beaver Dam.

Survivors include one daughter, Joyce Ann (John) Kornacki, Watertown; one son, Royce Bruce (Julie) Schultz, Fond du Lac; 10 grandchildren; Sandra Stansbury, Anchorage, Alaska, Steven (Lydia) Kornacki, Madison, Pamela (Paul) Zoellick, Watertown, Michael Kornacki, Madison, Christine (Brad) Buchberger, Sheboygan, Vincent (Traci) Schultz, Fond du Lac, Keetra Schultz, Fond du Lac, Jesse Kornacki, Watertown, Daniel Schultz, Fond du Lac, and David Schultz, Fond du Lac; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Earl, on Dec. 24, 1984; her second husband, Walter, on Sept. 12, 1961; her third husband, Harold, on April 22, 1983, and one sister, Alice.

Friends may call on Friday, May 25, from 11 a.m. until the time of service at the Koepsell Funeral Home, Beaver Dam.

Franklyn S. Priem
COLUMBUS - Franklyn S. Priem, 78, of N205 Highway 73, died on Tuesday, May 22, 2001, at the Columbus Center.

The funeral will be held on Friday, May 25, at 11 a.m., at the Columbus United Methodist Church. The Rev. John Hobbins will officiate. Burial will be in Hillside cemetery, Columbus.

Mr. Priem was born on Jan. 8, 1923, in the town of Columbus, the son of Edward and Charlotte (Smith) Priem. He was married on June 7, 1952, to Doris Knutson in Portage.

Mr. Priem was a 1940 graduate of Columbus High School. He was lifelong Columbus area farmer and an avid reader, He was a member of Columbus United Methodist Church.

Survivors include two second cousins, Roberta (Willard) Jenkins, Dalton, and LeRoy Griffith, Houston; relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Doris, in 1994.

Friends may call on Friday, May 25, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at Columbus United Methodist Church.

Memorials may be made to the Larsen House or Columbus United Methodist Church.

LaVerna Braunschweig
LaVerna Braunschweig, 87, formerly of Fox Lake, died on Sunday, May 20, 2001, at the Beaver Dam Care Center.

The funeral will be held on Friday, May 25, at 1 p.m., at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church, Fox Lake. The Rev. David Nottling will officiate. Burial will be on Saturday, May 26, at 10 a.m., in the Jerecho cemetery, town of Eagle.

Mrs. Braunschweig was born on Nov. 18, 1913, in the town of Trenton, the daughter of William and Minnie (Streich) Port. She was baptized on Nov. 30, 1913, and confirmed on April 10, 1927, by the Rev. Paul Lorenz. She was married on Dec. 6, 1935, to William Braunschweig at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church by the Rev. Leonard Bernthal.

Mrs. Braunschweig was a faithful and lifetime member of St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church. She and her husband owned and operated the Harbor Bar in Fox Lake for numerous years. She loved to fish and go to the Milwaukee Bucks basketball games with her daughter, Donna. She will be sadly missed and mourned by family and friends.

Survivors include two daughters, Barbara (Jerome) Heimerl, Okeechobee, Fla., and Donna Braunschweig, Wauwatosa; two grandchildren, Sandra and William Heimerl; two nieces, Carol (Stanley) Tadych, Beaver Dam, and Elaine (Eugene) Woock, Waupun; relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill, in 1976; two brothers, Elmer and William, and three sisters, Linda Pauch, Marie Pauch and Esther Birkholz.

Friends may call on Friday, May 25, from 11 a.m. until the time of service at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church, Fox Lake.

The Kratz-Smedema Funeral Home, Fox Lake, is serving the family.

William J. Meier
MADISON - William "Bill" J. Meier, 41, of Nashville, Tenn., died on Thursday, May 17, 2001, at the Don and Marilyn Anderson HospiceCare Inc., inpatient unit.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 9, at 10 a.m., at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 5701 Raymond Road, Madison.

Mr. Meier was born on Feb. 14, 1960, in Beaver Dam, the son of Robert and Jeanne (Morgan) Meier.

Mr. Meier was a 1978 graduate of Beaver Dam High School. He attended college at UW-Platteville. After college he had several jobs, ultimately settling in Nashville, Tenn., as a travel agent. Later he switched careers and became a highly successful disc jockey. He very much enjoyed playing the guitar, singing, playing tennis, cooking for friends, and was extremely fond of his dog, CJ.

Survivors include six brothers and sisters, Terri (Leo) Schmitt, Minnesota, Tom (Jane) Meier, Madison, Bob (Pam) Meier, Kansas, Peg (John) Miller, LaCrosse, Dan (Beth) Meier, McHenry, Ill., and Beth (Scott) Ingram, Victoria, Minn.; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorials may be made to the Don and Marilyn HospiceCare Inc., 5395 E. Cheryl Parkway, Madison, WI 53711, or to a Hospice in your area.

Cress Funeral and Cremation Services, Madison, served the family.

Jerome Ebert
BURNETT - Jerome "Jerry" Ebert, 67, of Burnett, died on Tuesday, May 22, 2001, at his home.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday, May 29, at 11 a.m., at Sacred Heart Parish, (formerly the St. Malachy Catholic Church), Horicon. The Rev. M. Eugene Kinney will officiate. Burial will be in St. Malachy cemetery, Horicon.

Mr. Ebert was born on Sept. 16, 1933, in Shawano, the son of Cletus and Alma (Moesch) Ebert. He was married on Sept. 1, 1956, to Rita Speltz in Rolling Stone, Minn. He was later married on Jan. 4, 1998, to Lynn Ballbach at St. Malachy Catholic Church, Horicon.

Mr. Ebert was a 1952 graduate of Shawano High School. He studied engineering at Platteville, Marquette and Winona State, and played the sport he loved most, football. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He worked at John Deere Horicon Works for 22 years, retiring in 1985. He then followed his heart into farming full-time so he could be outstanding in his field. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and served on the parish council and planning committee.

Survivors include his wife, Lynn Ebert, Burnett; three daughters, JoAnn (Pedar) Melberg, Mechanicsville, Va., Nancy (Brian) Peters, Grayslake, Ill., and Jane (Tony) Sartori, Kenosha; one son, Michael (Barbara) Ebert, Sycamore, Ill.; two step-daughters, Denise (Dan) Hofmeister, Horicon, and Kim (Phil) Apfelbeck, Burnett; 12 grandchildren; one sister, Janet (Leo) Zehren, Denmark, Wis.; nieces, nephews, relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Rita, in 1994; one brother, Cletus Ebert Jr., and two sisters, Beverly Ascher, and Ann Ebert.

Friends may call on Monday, May 28, from 5 to 8 p.m., with a parish vigil held at 7:45 p.m., at the Murray Community Funeral Home, Horicon, and on Tuesday, May 29, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at Sacred Heart Parish, Horicon.
