A. Ralph Paulson
MENOMONEE FALLS - A. Ralph Paulson, 95, died on Monday, May 21, 2001, at Linden Grove Nursing Home, Menomonee Falls.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday, May 30, at 11 a.m., at Vangen Funeral Home, Rio. The Rev. Richard Dowling will officate. Burial will be in the Ohio cemetery, Rio.

Mr. Paulson was born on April 21, 1906, in Hammond, the son of William and Anna (Hansen) Paulson.

Mr. Paulson graduated from Rio High School in 1924. He moved to Milwaukee and worked at many jobs including for the Chicago North Western Railroad as a yard clerk. From 1937 to 1985, his primary work was in auto sales and management. He was a long time member of the Rio Masonic Lodge No. 52/Pardeeville Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include one brother, Harvey Paulson, Rio; one sister-in-law, Bernice Paulson, Milwaukee; two nephews; great-nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Erwin, Lyle and Maynard Paulson.

Friends may call on Wednesday, May 30, from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

Emma Bille
WAUPUN - Emma Bille, 93, a resident of the Christian Home in Waupun, for the past 4 1/2 years, died on Thursday, May 24, 2001, at the home.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, May 26, at 10 a.m., at the Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home, Waupun. The Rev. Rick Boon will officiate. Burial will be in the Alto cemetery.

Mrs. Bille was born on June 21, 1907, the daughter of Henry and Winnie (Syens) Posthuma. She was married on Sept. 28, 1932 to William Bille in Friesland.

Mrs. Bille and her husband farmed in the town of Oakfield for 46 years prior to retiring and moving to Waupun in 1981. She was a member of the First Reformed Church, Waupun.

Survivors include two sisters, Clara Woudstra, Cambria, and Jane (Carl) Jansma, Cambria; one brother, Fred (Melba) Posthuma, Fox Lake; special nephew, Marvin (Arlene) Bille, Waupun; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband William on June 21, 1984; four brothers and two sisters.
Friends called on Friday, May 25, from 5 to 7 p.m., at the Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home, Waupun, and may call on Saturday, May 26, from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.

Seymour W. Kok
FOX LAKE - Seymour W. Kok, 72, of N10368 Highway A, Fox Lake, died on Friday, May 25, 2001, at the Beaver Dam Community Hospital.

The funeral will be held on Monday, May 28, at 1 p.m., at First Randolph Christian Reformed Church, East Friesland. The Rev. Robert Brenton will officiate. Burial will be in the Friesland cemetery.

Mr. Kok was born on Feb. 14, 1929, in Denver, Colo., the son of the late William and Anna (Elgersma) Kok. He was married to Junice Loomans on Aug. 17, 1949, at the First Christian Reformed Church, Waupun.

Shortly after birth Mr. Kok's parents moved to the Friesland area. Following his marriage to Junice, they moved to the Waupun area in 1957. They owned and operated a dairy farm in the area and became very well known for Kok's Sweet Corn all over the area. In 1999, they retired and moved to Fox Lake. He was a member of the First Randolph Christian Reformed Church and served as an elder and deacon of the church. For several years he was the Sunday school superintendent. He was the Wisconsin Coordinator of the CRWRC Disaster Relief for several years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed traveling. His favorite pastime was spending time with his grandchildren.

He will be sadly missed by his wife Junice of 51 years; four children, Wayne (Janice) Kok, Jim (Diane) Kok, both of Randolph; Sheryl (Glen) Hoekstra, Fox Lake, and Marchell (David) Syens, Friesland; 10 grandchildren, Brenda (Mike) Brewer, Jason (Jamie) Kok, David and Amy Kok, Lisa Hoekstra and her fiance Nick Hull, Steven and Laura Hoekstra and Alicia and Evan Syens, and his first great-grandchild to be born in June; one brother, Roger (Joyce) Kok, Delavan; two sisters, Esther (Howard) Vant Hoff, Randolph, and Marlene (Don) Hughes, Madison; two sisters-in-law, Gladys (Wilbert) Koerner, and Marlene Kraintz, both of Waupun; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers-in-law.

Friends may call on Sunday, May 27, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Randolph Community Funeral Home, and again on Monday, from noon until the time of service, at the church.

Memorial may be made to the Randolph Christian School.

Nellie E. Gray
HORICON - Nellie E. Gray, 84, of Horicon, died on Friday, May 25, 2001, at the Mayville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday, May 29, at 11 a.m., at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church, Horicon. The Rev. Russell Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Oakhill cemetery, Horicon.

Mrs. Gray was born on Nov. 14, 1916, in town of Courtland, Randolph, the daughter of Frederick and Edna (Louden) Wackett. She was married to Cecil R. Gray on Aug. 7, 1936, in Rockford, Ill.

Mrs. Gray was a resident of Horicon since 1944. Along with her husband, they owned and operated The Depot Tavern. She was a member of Zion Ev. Lutheran Church, Horicon.

Survivors include two daughters, Nancy (Edward) Graf, Theresa, and Rosa (Edward) Wolter, Mayville; six grandchildren, Darcy (Robert) Bogenschneider, Theresa, Tim Graf, Theresa, Lisa (special friend Keith Beilke) Graf, Mayville, Joe (Chris) Graf, Theresa, Terry (special friend Jody Schroeder) Wolter, Lomira, and Todd (Debbie) Wolter, Mayville; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Lester (Agnes) Wackett, Beaver Dam; two sisters-in-law, Elda Wackett, Watertown, and Leona Wackett, Randolph.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Cecil in 1970; one grandson, Michael; and four brothers, Byron, Clifford, Floyd and Budd Wackett.

Friends may call on Tuesday, May 29, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Horicon.

Alta M. Calkins
Alta Mae Calkins, 88, 329 Rosendale St., Beaver Dam, died on Saturday, May 26, 2001, at the Beaver Dam Care Center.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday, May 30, at noon, at the First Presbyterian Church, Fox Lake. The Rev. Jack Harle will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside cemetery, Fox Lake.

Mrs. Calkins was born on May 5, 1913, in Randolph, the daughter of Harvey and Eunice (Crain) Brooks. She was married on May 30, 1931, to Herbert Calkins.

Mrs. Calkins was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Fox Lake, the Fox Lake Ladies Circle, and the Fox Lake Women's Club.

Survivors include two sisters, Hazel Mierow, Beaver Dam, and Betty Kraut, Juneau; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert, in 1980; three brothers, Harold, Robert, and Floyd, and one sister, Eleanore.

Friends may call on Wednesday, May 30, from 10 a.m. until the time of service, at the First Presbyterian Church, Fox Lake.

Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, Fox Lake.

Adeline W. Schliesman
COLUMBUS - Adeline W. Schliesman, 92, of the Columbus Center, died on Saturday, May 26, 2001, at the center.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, May 31, at 11 a.m., at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Rio. The Rev. Donald Wiecki will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic cemetery, Rio.

Mrs. Schliesman was born on Jan. 4, 1909, in the township of Fountain Prairie, the daughter of George and Clara (Jesberger) Warmke. She was married on Nov. 9, 1932, to Mark Schliesman at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Doylestown.

Mrs. Schliesman and her husband farmed in the townships of Springvale and Otsego. She had a thriving chicken business for 30 years. The couple moved to Rio in 1962. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Rio.

Survivors include two sons, Francis (Virginia) Schliesman, Beaver Dam, and Eugene Michael (Kathleen) Schliesman, Rio; three daughters, Margaret Schliesman, Columbus, Mary (Cy) Myhre-Belcher, Mauston, and Rose (Leonard) Hein, Pardeeville; one brother, Harold Warmke, Janesville; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mark, on March 9, 1981; one son, Jerrold Joseph, on Nov. 17, 1965, in Vietnam; three sisters, Irene Seier, Florence Waterworth, and Sister Norene Warmke, and two brothers, Urban Warmke, and Raymond Warmke.

Friends may call on Thursday, May 31, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Rio.

Louise M. Shepard
COLUMBUS - Louise M. Shepard, 90, of 23 Fairway Drive, Columbus, died on Sunday, May 27, 2001, at the Columbus Center.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday, May 29, 2001, at 7 p.m., at Olivet Congregational U.C.C., Columbus. The Rev. Denise J. Cole will officiate. Burial will be on Thursday, May 31, at 4 p.m., in Hillside cemetery, Columbus.

Mrs. Shepard was born on Oct. 24, 1910, in Pardeeville, the daughter of Julius and Olga (Aust) Shepard. She was married on Sept. 23, 1939, to William "Bill" E. Shepard.

Mrs. Shepard was a 1930 graduate of Columbus High School. She was a legal secretary for attorneys Lloyd Paust, Robert Behl and Carroll B. Callahan, in Columbus. She was later employed at the Bouquet Shoppe, Columbus, was an avid bridge player and loved golfing and sewing. She was a member of the Olivet Church, it's Social Circle, and was part of the Columbus Hospital Lifeline Program.

Survivors include two sons, Fredric W. (Joyce) Shepard, and Robert E. (Linda) Shepard, both of Columbus; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill, in 1997, and one brother, Lester Grueneberg.

Friends may call on Tuesday, May 29, from 5 p.m. until the time of service at the Olivet Church, Columbus.

Memorials may be made to the Olivet Church, Columbus, or the Columbus Community Hospital.

James A. Braemer Sr.
James A. Braemer Sr., 78, of Beaver Dam, died on Saturday, May 26, 2001, while mowing lawn in the town of Beaver Dam.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday, May 30, at 2 p.m., at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Beaver Dam. The Rev. Daniel Massie will officiate. Burial will be in St. Michael's cemetery, Beaver Dam.

Mr. Braemer was born on Aug. 4, 1922, in Milwaukee, the son of Arthur and Lenora (Long) Braemer. He was married on April 11, 1942, to Esther G. Garczynski in Beaver Dam.

Mr. Braemer was a 1941 graduate of Beaver Dam High School. He worked at Kirsh Foundry for 42 years, retiring in 1988. He enjoyed gardening and was an avid sports fan who liked basketball, baseball and football. He was a supporter of Beaver Dam sports and was his grandchildren's biggest fan. He also coached Little League and Babe Ruth for many years. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Beaver Dam, and had been active in the Holy Name Society.

Survivors include four children, Caroline (William) Schwartz, LaCrosse, James (Bridget) Braemer Jr., Oakfield, Patricia (Dennis) Gruenke, Random Lake, and Richard (Martha) Braemer, Beaver Dam; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one brother, Bob (Bernice) Braemer, Beaver Dam; one sister, Eloisa Reems, Palm Bay, Fla.; special friend, Mabel McCamish, Beaver Dam; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Esther, in 1991; one sister, Jean Kindt, and one brother, LeRoy Braemer.

Friends may call on Wednesday, May 30, from noon until the time of service, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Beaver Dam.

Memorials may be made to UCPS in Beaver Dam, or the American Heart Association.

Helen J. Schmidt
PARDEEVILLE - Helen J. Schmidt, 83, of Pardeeville, died on Tuesday, May 29, 2001.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, June 1, at 11 a.m., at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Pardeeville. The Rev. John Hedrick will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic cemetery, Pardeeville.

Ms. Schmidt was born on Feb. 28, 1918, in Pardeeville, the daughter of John N. and Elizabeth (Schuster) Schmidt.

Ms. Schmidt graduated from Edgewood High School and went on to attend Alverno College, Marquette University and Loyola University in Chicago. In her teaching career she taught for over 60 years. She taught elementary school in the Chicago area for 35 years, at the Fox Lake Correctional Facility for approximately five years, and at the Columbia County Correctional Facility, Portage, for 20 years. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Pardeeville.

Survivors include two sisters, Eva Hatzinger, Pardeeville, and Anne Ramlet, Shawano; nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by six brothers, George, John, Edward, William, Robert, and the Rev. Frederick N. Schmidt; one sister, Betty Rowley; two nephews, John George Schmidt, and William Hatzinger, and one brother-in-law, Bill Ramlet.

Friends may call on Thursday, May 31, from 5 to 8 p.m., with a rosary held at 8 p.m., at the Vangen Funeral Home, Rio, and on Friday, June 1, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.

Mary C. Kalinowski
EAGLE RIVER - Mary C. Kalinowski, 94, of Eagle River, was born into eternal life on Monday, May 28, 2001, at Eagle River Memorial Hospital.

A private family service was held.

Mrs. Kalinowski was born on Aug. 9, 1906.

Mrs. Kalinowski was a housewife and mother and owned Big Joe's Tavern in Fox Lake with her husband.

Survivors include three daughters; Trudy Tondreau, Racine, Rose Brand, and Dorothy (Fred) Reh, both of Eagle River; two sons, Ben (Eva) Kalin, Reedsburg, and Joseph (Avis) Kalinowski, Fox Lake; two brothers, Edward (Kate) Glinski, and Walter (Dorothy) Glinski, both of Green Bay; one sister, Pauline Luedtke, Green Bay; three sisters-in-law, Rose Kalinowski, Milwaukee, and Clara and Marge Glinski, both of Green Bay; 12 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, relatives and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Kalinowski, on Oct. 3, 1985; one daughter, Delores Kahlenowski; two brothers, Tony and Frank Glinski; one sister, Nettie Pierkowski; one brother-in-law, Raymond Luedtke, and two sons-in-law, Bud Tondreau, and Bob. Brand.

The Gaffney-Busha Funeral Home, Eagle River, served the family.
