Peter John Seippel
Father, Friend, Philanthropist

Peter John Seippel 57, 1224 Lakeshore Drive, passed away peacefully at his home in Beaver Dam Tuesday morning, Dec. 4, 2001.

A memorial mass will be held on Monday, Dec. 10, at 4 p.m., at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Beaver Dam. The Rev. Daniel Massie will officiate. A private family service will be held prior to the memorial mass.

"PJ" or "Peter" to his countless friends and acquaintances, was a lifelong native of Beaver Dam. He was born on July 18, 1944, the son of Henry M. and Mary Ann (Stehling) Seippel. He had both a loved and loving childhood founded in thoughtful and considered Christian principles which stood him so well in later years as a generous and ever-giving member of this community. He will be sorely missed by many.

Peter attended St. Patrick's Parochial School, Wayland Academy, St. John's Military Academy and Lawrence University.

He served his country as both first lieutenant in the U.S. Army, and later as first lieutenant in the Wisconsin National Guard. It was here, as general's aide to General Joseph Stehling, that there commenced a profound mutual friendship with General Stehling that guided Peter's highly successful career as a consummate businessman.

In 1969, Peter founded Advance Products Corporation. With this, he embarked on a 30-year enterprise, developing Advance Products into one of the country's finest and most reputable powder metallurgy manufacturing and engineering firms. Under Peter's tutelage, Advance Products became synonymous with quality and service of the highest standards, supplying the country's foremost blue-chip companies. Throughout this Peter never lost sight of all of the people who were with him on this "Journey of Excellence."

Peter's drive and enthusiasm also let him establish the Community Development Company and, with his family, The Seippel Company. Of late, Peter was still very active in his new venture, Seippel Enterprises, a personal project dedicated to helping young and promising businessmen develop their futures as he did his.

Peter's knowledge and energies were appreciated and sought by many. He served on the Bank One board of directors; the Beaver Dam Area Arts Association board of directors; Beaver Dam Scholarship Foundation founding director; the Green Lake Festival of Music board of directors; the Leukemia Society board of directors; Powder Metallurgy Association president; and the Wayland Academy board of directors.

Yet of all of Peter's interests and dreams nothing compared to his desire for others to benefit and share from his own good fortune. Peter co-founded The Seippel Family Foundation in 1990, and personally founded the Peter J. Seippel Foundation in 1995. As president of both of these charitable foundations, he was an unhesitatingly stalwart benefactor of the greater Beaver Dam community. For Peter, Beaver Dam was not only his home, but also a community which he held in deep respect and great appreciation.

In 1995, as part of The Peter J. Seippel Foundation he established the Seippel Homestead and Center for the Arts at the Seippel farm, where Peter spent his childhood and youth. His support of the arts resulted in recognition by the State of Wisconsin in his receiving the Governor's Award in Support of the Arts in 1999. He subsequently served as honorary chairman on the Governor's Committee during 2000.

Peter Seippel, philanthropist, will be greatly missed by many. Great men create great voids when they depart. However, it is in this greatness that he permanently established The Peter J. Seippel Foundation in order that the work he began will continue to touch the lives of many others long after his death. Thank you Peter Seippel. We miss you.

He is survived by his loved and loving daughters, Chelsey Annlyn Seippel, and Ashley Nicole Seippel; his brother and close friend, Phillip Seippel; his special friend of many years, Janice Scheurer; his uncle, General Joseph Stehling; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Henry M. Seippel; his mother, Mary Ann Seippel, and his sister, Susan Seippel Grow.

Friends may call on Sunday, Dec. 9, from 2 to 7 p.m., at the Murray Community Funeral Home, Beaver Dam, and on Monday, Dec. 10, from 9 to 10:30 a.m., at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Beaver Dam Area Arts Association and the Beaver Dam Hospital Home Health Program.
