JUNEAU - Erwin Berndt, 92, formerly of 368 S. Main St., Juneau, died on Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2002, at Pine View Nursing Home, Black River Falls.

Funeral services are pending with Koepsell Funeral Home, Beaver Dam.

Lucile D. Shaffer
Lucile D. Shaffer, 92, of Beaver Dam, died on Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2002, at Hillside Manor, Beaver Dam.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, Jan. 12, at 11 a.m., at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Beaver Dam. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery, town of Beaver Dam.

Mrs. Shaffer was born on June 18, 1909, the daughter of Emil and Delphine (Boro) Damrow. She was married to F.M. "Mike" Shaffer on June 4, 1932, at St. James Church, Wausau.

Mrs. Shaffer graduated from Stevens Point State Teachers College, she taught school in Richland Center. She and her husband moved to Beaver Dam where her husband taught school and coached for many years. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Beaver Dam; the Homemaker's Club and the Facility's Wives. She was a Girl Scout leader. In her later years, she belonged to and enjoyed various card clubs.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary Shaffer, Elk Grove Village, Ill., and Barb (Edward) Yagodinski, West Bend; two grandchildren, Kathryn and Karrie Yagodinski, West Bend; and one great-grandson, Lucian Yagodinski.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mike, in 1997, and two brothers, Clyde and Glen Damrow.

Friends may call on Saturday, Jan. 12, from 10 am. until the time of service at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Beaver Dam.

Memorials may be made to St. Patrick's Catholic church, Beaver Dam.

Leora K. Puestow
MENOMONEE FALLS - Leora K, Puestow, 83, died on Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2002.

The funeral was held on Monday, Jan. 7, at 11 a.m. at Grace Ev. Lutheran Church, Menomonee Falls. Burial was in Wisconsin Memorial cemetery.

Survivors include four sisters, Eldine (Clyde) Mast, Eleanor Weber, Carol (Harvey) Gietzel, and Joyce (Al) Duffy; one sister-in-law; one granddaughter; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Robert, and two sisters, Alexa Koehler and Evelyn Klatt.

Memorials may be made to Grace Ev. Lutheran Church, N87 W16171 Kenwood Blvd., Menomonee Falls.

The Schmidt and Bartelt Funeral Home, Menomonee Falls, served the family.

Alice Roberts
Alice Roberts, 89, of Beaver Dam, died on Thursday, Feb. 28, 2002, at the Beaver Dam Care Center.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, March 2, at 11 a.m., at the Murray Community Funeral Home, Beaver Dam. The Rev. William Key will officiate. Burial will be in St. Michael's cemetery, Beaver Dam.

Mrs. Roberts was born on May 7, 1912, in Beaver Dam, the daughter of John and Katherine (Washtock) Nadolski.

Mrs. Roberts was a lifelong resident of Beaver Dam, and was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Beaver Dam. She worked at Bear Brand Hosiery, Beaver Dam.

Survivors include nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Catherine, in 1979; one son, John, in 1992; two sisters, Theresa and Rose, and three infant sisters, Mary, Cecelia and Catherine.

Earl J. Petry
LAKE PLACID, Fla. - Earl J. Peter, of Baraboo and Lake Placid, Fla., died on Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2002, at the Florida Hospital, Lake Placid, Fla.

A Mass of Christian burial was held on Friday, March 1, at 11 a.m., at St. James Catholic Church, Lake Placid, Fla. The Rev. Vincente Llaria officiated.

Mr. Petry was born in 1925, in Waukesha.

Mr. Petry had been a winter resident of Lake Placid, Fla., for the past five years. He was a farmer for more than 40 years in Reeseville. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church, Lake Placid, Fla.

Survivors include his wife, Frances J. (Scherer) Petry, Lake Placid, Fla.; three sons, Robert E. Petry, Daniel J. Petry, both of Milwaukee, and David J. Petry, Delafield; three brothers, Leo Petry, Kure Beach, N.C., Donald Petry, Waukesha, and Paul Petry, Sussex; three grandchildren; relatives and friends.

Friends called on Friday, March 1, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., at the Scott Funeral Home, Lake Placid, Fla.

Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice, or to St. James Catholic Church, 3380 Placid View Drive, Lake Placid, FL, 33852.

Arthur J. Thieme
JUNEAU - Arthur J. Thieme, 88, of N5180 Saint Helena Road, Juneau, died on Thursday, Jan. 24, 2002, at Juneau Terrace.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 30, at 6:30 p.m., at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church, Juneau. The Revs. Thomas Biedenbender and Douglas Westenberg will officiate. Burial will be in the Juneau cemetery.

Mr. Thieme was born on Aug. 25, 1913, in the town of Oak Grove, the son of Arthur F. and Anna (Baerwald) Thieme. He was married on Sept. 12, 1942, to Ruby Westphal at Zum Krupplein Christi, town of Herman.

Mr. Thieme's family farmed the homestead in the town of Oak Grove for the past 136 years. He was a member of St. John Ev. Lutheran Church, Juneau, was a board member in the town of Oak Grove from 1971 to 1999, was the school board director for district six, was a member of the Juneau Senior Citizens and Clyman Senior Citizens. He enjoyed playing cards, bullhead fishing, and appreciated nature.

Survivors include two daughters, Geraldine (Darwin) Bischoff, Juneau, and Denise Thieme, Madison; three sons, Charles (Shelly) Thieme, Verona, Richard (Shirley) Thieme, Juneau, and Ralph (Stacey) Thieme, Biddeford, Maine; one sister, Anita Wendling, Juneau; one brother-in-law, Erwin Koepsell, Horicon; one sister-in-law, Anyra Thieme, Beaver Dam; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruby, in 1997; two sisters, Gladys and Emily, and two brothers, Harry and Emil.

Friends may call on Wednesday, Jan. 30, from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m., at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church, Juneau.

Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran School, Juneau.

The family would like to thank Juneau Terrace and Beaver Dam Hospice for their caring and compassion to our family and father.

Elmer J. Van Buren
WAUPUN - Elmer John Van Buren, 94, a resident of the Christian Home, Waupun, died on Friday, Jan. 25, 2002, at the home.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 29, at 1:30 p.m., at the Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home, Waupun. The Rev. Rick Boon will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Memory Gardens, town of Trenton.

Mr. Van Buren was born on May 20, 1907, in the town of Oakfield, the son of John and Johanna (Van Loenen) Van Buren. He was married on March 18, 1938, to Josephine Van Loo in Waupun.

Mr. Van Buren and his wife farmed most of their married life in the Waupun area until 1960. He held various factory and contractors jobs until his retirement. He was a member of the First Reformed Church, Waupun.

He will be sadly missed by his beloved wife of 63 years, Josephine Van Buren, Waupun; four sons, Clarence (Arlene) Van Buren, Russel (Carol) Van Buren, both of Waupun, Erwin (Gail) Van Buren, Markesan, and LeRoy (Donna) Van Buren, Beaver Dam; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one step-great-grandson; two sisters, Minnie Frey, Mayville, and Mildred (Melvin) Holbach, Waupun; one brother, John Van Buren Jr., Waupun; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.

Friends may call on Monday, Jan. 28, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home, Waupun.

Betty J. Priebusch
Betty J. Priebusch, 73, of 512 N. Lincoln Ave., Beaver Dam, died on Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2002, at Beaver Dam Community Hospital.

The funeral will be held on Thursday, Jan. 24, at 11 a.m., at St. Stephen's Ev. Lutheran Church, Beaver Dam. The Rev. Philip Heyer will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery, Beaver Dam.

Mrs. Priebusch was born on Aug. 23, 1928, in Beaver Dam, the daughter of Frank and Edna (Pollnow) Reifsnider. She was married on Feb. 14, 1948, to Kieth Priebusch at St. Stephen's Ev. Lutheran Church, Beaver Dam.

Mrs. Priebusch was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who loved to watch her grandchildren play sports. One of her interests was to collect Beannie Babies. She was a member of St. Stephen's Ev. Lutheran Church, Beaver Dam.

Survivors include her husband, Kieth Priebusch, Beaver Dam; two children, Lori (Jeffrey) Rollins, Beaver Dam, and Mark Priebusch, Mukwonago; two grandchildren, Daniel and Sara Rollins; three brothers, Orville (Gerri) Reifsnider, Burnett, Robert (Mary) Reifsnider, and William (Sue) Riefsnider, both of Beaver Dam; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Judith, in 1957, and Sandra, in 1962, and two brothers.

Friends may call on Wednesday, Jan. 23, from 5 to 7 p.m., at the Murray Community Funeral Home, Beaver Dam, and on Thursday, Jan. 24, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at St. Stephen's Ev. Lutheran Church, Beaver Dam.

Lawrence E. Ehrke
WATERLOO - Lawrence E. "Pete" Ehrke, 80, Stark Road, Waterloo, died on Sunday, Jan. 20, 2002, at his home.

The funeral will be held on Thursday, Jan. 24. at 10 a.m., at the Zion Ev. Lutheran Church, Columbus. The Rev. Robert Wilke will officiate. Burial will be in Washington cemetery, town of Portland.

Mr. Ehrke was born on Aug. 22, 1921, in Ixonia, the son of William and Anna (Froedel) Ehrke. He was married on Oct. 21,1950, in Watertown.

Mr. Ehrke was a lifelong dairy farmer. He lived on his most recent farm for 49 years.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Ehrke, Waterloo; one son, Larry (Kristine) Ehrke, Columbus; three granddaughters; one grandson; three stepchildren; several step-grandchildren; relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Irving and Elmer Ehrke, and one sister, Lena Ehrke.

Friends may call on Wednesday, Jan. 23, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Zeidler Funeral Home, Columbus, and on Thursday, Jan. 24, from 9 a.m. until the time of service at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church, Columbus.

Bertha Evelyn Froehlich

RANDOLPH - Bertha Evelyn Froehlich, 92, formerly of Friesland, died peacefully on Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002, at the Continental Manor, Randolph.
The funeral will be held on Monday, Jan. 21, at noon, at the Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church, Friesland. The Rev. John Unnasch will officiate. Burial will be in the Friesland cemetery.

Mrs. Froehlich was born on Aug. 26, 1909, in the town of Scott, Columbia County, the daughter of William and Ida (Yonkee) Kowald. She was married on March 20, 1929, in Portage, to Jess Froehlich.

Mrs. Froehlich attended the Englewood Country School and worked with her family on the family farm and cared for her mother who was in ill health. She met her husband while he worked on the railroad near her family farm. They farmed in the rural Cambria and Friesland areas until making their home in the village of Friesland. She was employed as a seasonal worker for the Friesland Canning Co. and then with the Cambria Canning Co. (DelMonte) for many years. She was a cherished mother who will never be forgotten and always remembered for the best home-baked goodies that she shared with many, for her beautiful crochet and sewing projects, but most of all as a devoted grandmother and great-grandmother who loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and attended all of their sporting events. She was a member of the Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church, Friesland, and its Ladies Aid. This loving and caring lady will be sadly missed and mourned by her family.

Survivors include two sons, Norman (Emily) Froehlich, Cambria, and Donald (Lois) Froehlich, Friesland; two daughters, Audrey (Bill) Rupnow, Beaver Dam, and Marion Jacobson, Portage; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; one brother, Ray Kowald; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on Feb. 18, 1991; one granddaughter, Deborah, in September 1960; one son-in-law, Darryll Jacobson on Feb. 11, 1999; two brothers, Albert and Vernon; and three sisters-in-law.

Friends may call on Monday, Jan. 21, from 10 a.m. until the time of service, at the Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church.

Memorials would be appreciate to the Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church, Friesland.

Viola A. Hartman
RANDOLPH - Viola A. Hartman, 84, of Randolph, died on Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002, at Waupun Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 22, at 11 a.m., at the Randolph Community Funeral Home. The Rev. Richard Finke will officiate. Burial will be in Randolph cemetery.

Mrs. Hartman was born on April 3, 1917, in Cambria, the daughter of Ludwig F. and Martha A. (Tessmann) Krueger. She was married to Elmer Hartman.

Mrs. Hartman was a member of Reformation Lutheran Church, Chicago.

Survivors include one special nephew, Edwin "Butch" Krueger, Randolph; two sisters, Evelyn Williams, Cambria, and Ramona Knox, Juneau; one brother, Darvin Krueger, Oregon; two sisters-in-law; relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer; one daughter, Elaine Krueger; two sisters, and four brothers.

Friends may call on Monday, Jan. 21, from 5 to 7 p.m,, at the Randolph Community Funeral Home.
