Edward A. Hankes
Edward A. Hankes, 79, of 210 Francis Court, Beaver Dam, died on Saturday, April 27, 2002, after a long battle with cancer at his home surrounded by his family.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, May 2, at 11 a.m., at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Beaver Dam. The Rev. Daniel Massie will officiate. Inurnment of cremains will be at St. Peter's Catholic cemetery, Beaver Dam

Ed was born on Nov. 13, 1922, in Fort Atkinson, the son of John and Catherine (Lies) Hankes. He was married to Bernadette G. Wondra on June 22, 1946, at St. Matthew's Catholic Parish, Campbellsport.

Ed attended St. Joseph's School in Fort Atkinson, St. Peter's School in Beaver Dam, graduated from Beaver Dam High School and attended two years of vocational training. After high school, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps. and terminated his duty as staff sergeant in 1945. He participated in the invasions of the Marshall Islands and Okinawa. He was a past member of the Beaver Dam American Legion Post No. 146 and had served as finance officer. He was the owner and operator of Hankes Decorators Inc. He was a very active member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, Beaver Dam, especially in the area of music. He and his wife established and directed the funeral choir named "The New Life Choir." He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the St. Vincent de Paul Society. He had a great love and talent for refurbishing religious artifacts and furniture. He enjoyed wine making, golf, bowling, camping and extensive traveling. One of his greatest enjoyments in life was his "Grandpa's Club," his beloved grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Bernadette G. Hankes, Beaver Dam; children, Edward (Kris) Hankes, Bluffton, Ind., Ann (Gary) Jensen, Oconomowoc, David Hankes, Plover, Andrew (Carrie) Hankes, Omro, and Maria (Greg) Graf, Stevens Point; sisters and brothers, Joseph (Audrey) Hankes, Omro; Francis (Hettie) Hankes and John (Dorothy) Hankes, all of Beaver Dam, Clara (Gilbert) Schweiger, Beaver Dam, and Mary (John) Pakiz, Aurora, Colo.; seven grandchildren, Nicholas and Matthew Hankes, Teddy and Sarah Jensen, Alycia Hankes, and Abby and Kacie Graf; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Marquerite Mary in infancy; his parents, and three brothers, Ralph, Clemens and Alfred "Louie" Hankes.

Friends may call on Thursday, May 2, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Beaver Dam.

Memorials may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society or Hillside Home Care/Hospice.

Arnold E. Schrader
RICHFIELD - Arnold E. Schrader, 83, of Richfield, died on Tuesday, April 30, 2002, at St. Luke's Medical Center, Milwaukee.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, May 4, at 11 a.m., at Fall River United Methodist Church, Fall River. The Rev. Wayne Hull will officiate. Burial will be in the Ohio cemetery, Rio.

Mr. Schrader was born on March 28, 1919, in Dorchester, the son of Oscar and Wilhamenia (Lueddecke) Schrader. He was married to Ruth Cartwright on Feb. 28, 1951, in Dubuque, Iowa.

Mr. Schrader was a farm hand for Russell Moore and later at the Link farm. He was a mechanic for Hoag Motors in Beaver Dam, then was employed at Stopler Industries in Menomonee Falls for 25 years as a mechanic. He was a member of the Richfield Sportsman's Club; a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge No. 1238 and the Moose Legion No. 31 in Menomonee Falls. He was a member of the Fall River United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his longtime friend and companion, Florence Mielke, Beaver Dam; one daughter, Sharon (Ray) Mielke, Fall River; one stepson, Fran (Noel) Cartwright, Grafton; five grandchildren, Russ (Linda) Bradley, Tony (Carol) Bradley, Tabatha (Todd) Gundrum, Karen Mielke and Raymond Mielke; four step-grandchildren, Frank, Leah, Melissa and Kristen Cartwright; seven great-grandchildren, Russ, Lance, Jennifer, Jessica, Jamie, Paige and Jordan; relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Ruth in 1987; three brothers and three sisters.

Friends may call on Friday, May 3, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Jones-Jensen Funeral Home, Columbus, and on Saturday, May 4, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the Fall River United Methodist Church, Fall River.

Memorials may be made to the Leukemia Society of America or the Fall River United Methodist Church.

Lee Klecker
COLUMBUS - Lee Klecker, 93, of the town of Elba died on Thursday May 2, 2002 at Columbus Community Hospital.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, at 5 p.m. at the Jones-Jensen Funeral Home, Columbus. Rev Bruce Hennington will officiate. Interment will be in St Jerome cemetery, Columbus.

Mr Klecker was born on Aug. 26, 1908 in the town of Portland to John and Amelia (Packel) Klecker. He was a life long town of Elba and Calamus area farmer and member of St Jerome Catholic Church, Columbus.

Survivors include his sister Adeline Braker of Reeseville; two nephews Francis (Mildred) McCaffery of Columbus and Kenny (Alaine) Willie of Reeseville; one niece Melva (Carl) Atkinson of Pardeevile; great nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Leonard and one sister Marcella Willie.

Friends may call at Jones-Jensen Funeral Home, Columbus, from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Gerhard H. Borchardt

WATERTOWN - Gerhard H. "Gary" Borchardt, 85, of 1020 Hill St., Watertown, formerly of 1215 N. Water St., Watertown, died on Thursday, May 2, 2002, at Marquardt Memorial Manor, Watertown.

The funeral will be held on Sunday, May 5, at 2:30 p.m., at the Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church, Watertown. Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran cemetery, Watertown.

Mr. Borchardt was born on May 24, 1916, in the town of Watertown, the son of Theodore and Anna (Wiedenhoeft) Borchardt. He was married to Clara Ihde on April 29, 1943, at Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church, Watertown.

Mr. Borchardt attended school in the town of Watertown. He was employed at the Watertown Table Slide for 15 years and at Brandt Automatic Cashier in Watertown for five years. He was a long time member of the Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church, Watertown. He was a member of AARP No. 3056. He was an avid woodworker creating and making a large variety of items. He enjoyed fishing and gardening. He was the last member of his immediate family.

Survivors include his wife, Clara, Watertown; one daughter, Darlene (special friend Merlin Pieper) Budde, Beaver Dam; two grandchildren, Scott (Bonnie) Budde and Pamela (Gregory) Ludowese, all of Beaver Dam; two great-grandchildren, Mara and Riley Budde; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Bertha Borchardt; one grandson, Craig Budde; two sisters, Lorraine Kube and Elsie Petzold, and two brothers, Harley and Ervin Heller.

Friends may call on Sunday, May 5, from 1:30 p.m. until the time of service at the Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church.

Memorials may be made to Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church or the charity of ones choice.

Anne M. Topping

PARDEEVILLE - Anne M. Topping, 96, of Harmony Manor, Pardeeville, died on Thursday, May 2, 2002, at the manor.

The funeral will be held on Monday, May 6, at 11 a.m., at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Rio. The Rev. Mark Buchan will officiate. Burial will be in the Ohio cemetery, Rio.

Mrs. Topping was born on Aug. 31, 1905, in Ladysmith, the daughter of Fritz and Ernestine (Pinnow) Barfknecht. She was married to James F. Topping on Oct. 18, 1927, in Ladysmith.

Mrs. Topping was baptised and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church, Ladysmith. She lived most of her life in the village of Rio. She helped serve hot lunches at the local school in Rio for many years. She was a clerk at JCPenney's, Portage. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Rio and was active in the Adah Circle, the Altar Guild and was a member of the church choir for many years.

Survivors include three children, Patricia (Robert) Lindert, Cambria, Barbara (Alan) Johnson, Rio, and James (Carolyn) Topping Jr., Boulder, Colo.; seven grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, James, on Dec. 11, 1973.; five brothers, three sisters; one grandson, Craig Lindert, and one granddaughter, Julie Lindert, in infancy.

Friends may call on Monday, May 6, from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the Redeemer Lutheran Church, Rio.

Memorials may be made to the Redeemer Lutheran Church.

The Vangen Funeral Home, Rio, is serving the family.

Rex B. Huber

Rex B. Huber, 62, 327 E. Burnett St., Beaver Dam, died on Tuesday, April 30, 2002, as a results of an automobile accident in Gilbert, Ariz.

Funeral services are pending with the Koepsell Funeral Home, Beaver Dam.

Lawrence A. Guth
WAUPUN - Lawrence A. "Larry" Guth, 79, of Waupun, died at his home Saturday, May 4, 2002, following several years struggling with heart disease.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, May 7, at 11 a.m., at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Waupun. The Rev. Michael Moran will officiate.

Mr. Guth was born on Nov. 15, 1922, in Waupun, the son of Alvin H. and Mary (White) Guth. He was married to Ann Yvonne White on April 18, 1953, at Holy Mother of Consolation Catholic Church, Oregon.

Mr. Guth was educated in the Waupun Public Schools, graduating from Waupun High School with the class of 1940. He attended St. Norbert College in DePere earning a bachelor of science degree in 1944. His early employment was in the family candy business in Waupun. He spent several years in the vegetable canning industry in Wisconsin, Indiana and New Jersey. In the mid 50s the couple returned to Waupun where he established Larry Guth Insurance and Real Estate, retiring in 1987.

Mr. Guth was a lifelong member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Waupun, serving several terms as parish trustee and council member. He was a charter member and grand knight of the John C. Burk Council No. 4897 Knights of Columbus in Waupun, and a member and Past Faithful Navigator of Msgr. Rohner Assembly 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. He was a member of the Independent Insurance Agents of Wisconsin where he served on several committees. He was a member of the Independent Insurance Agents of Dodge County and a member of the Order of the Blue Goose, an International Society of Professional Associates. He was a member of the Golden Knights of St. Norbert College in DePere.

He enjoyed camping, story telling, traveling, his workshop, his home and family. Through his son's early interest in hockey, he became an avid hockey fan and supporter of the local hockey programs, being one of the organizers of the Waupun Hockey Association.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Ann; two sons, Michael (Barbara) Guth, Van Wert, Ohio, and their children Ryan (Heather) Guth, Lima, Ohio, Regan (Miranda) Guth, Orem, Utah, and Alison Guth, Orem, Utah; and Matthew (Diane) Guth, and their children, Justin and Hannah Guth, Palatine, Ill.; one sister-in-law, Delores Guth, Waupun; two brothers-in-law, George Icke, Madison, and William (Delores) White, Madison; a nephew, Steven (Mary) Guth, Waupun, and their children, Jenny and Katie; nieces and nephews. He had a host of special friends and their families to whom he was affectionately known as "Grandpa Guth."

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Guth, in 1964; his father, Alvin Guth, in 1974; one brother, John Guth in 1992; one nephew, Joey Guth in 1965; a special uncle, Henry "Jockey" Guth in 1967, and his beloved sister-in-law, Mary White Icke in 2000.

Friends may call on Monday, May 6, from 4 to 8 p.m., at the Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home, Waupun, and on Tuesday, May 7, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. A rosary service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 6.

Memorials may be made, in lieu of flowers, to the Hospice Home of Hope or St. Joseph's Catholic Church building fund.

Rex B. Huber
Rex Bradley Huber, 62, of 327 E. Burnett St., Beaver Dam, died on April 30, 2002, as a result of an automobile accident while vacationing in Gilbert, Ariz.

Mr. Huber was born on Oct. 5, 1939, in Williamsfield, Ill. He was the youngest son of Spencer and Bernice (Thurman) Huber. He grew up helping his father on the farm and later worked in the family hardware store. In 1958, he graduated from Williamsfield High School. The family moved to Omro in 1959, and in 1960, Rex married Julie Alto. At that time, Chrysler Outboard Motors in Oshkosh employed him as a test engineer and he enthusiastically worked in that position until the plant closed. Rex married Karen Callies in 1964.

During his life, Mr. Huber lived in Mercer, Beaver Dam, and Gilbert, Ariz. His occupations included home building and finished carpentry with both his father and brother and work in grocery industry with Fry's of Arizona and most recently Rechek' ,Food Pride.

An avid hunter and fisherman, he particularly excelled at bow hunting. Later in life, he preferred shooting with the camera and was a very good photgrapher. Also an excellent cook, Mr. Huber was a perfectionist and every endeavor was well done.

He delighted in practical jokes and those who knew him will miss the sound of his heartfelt laughter.

Mr. Huber was preceded in death by his parents; one sister and one infant son, at birth.

Mr. Huber will be sadly missed and mourned by one brother, Daryl (Nancy) Huber, Presque Isle; one brother-in-law, Le Roy Weingarten, Beaver Dam; nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, relatives and dear friends, Ellie Wirch and Sharon Green, both of Gilbert, Ariz.

Friends may call on Tuesday, May 7, from 5 to 7 p.m., at Koepsell Funeral Home, Beaver Dam. A memorial service will follow the visitation. The Rev. David J. Meyer will officate. Burial will be in Omro Cememtery, Omro.

Duewaine W. Oehlert
WINONA, Minn. - Duewaine Walter Oehlert, 67, formerly of 122 Hidden Valley Road, Minnesota City, Minn., died Saturday, May 4, 2002, at Lake Winona Manor, Winona, Minn.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday, May 8, at 1 p.m., at St. Martin's Ev. Lutheran Church, Winona, Minn. The Rev. Timothy Dost will officiate. Burial will be in Bush cemetery, Ridgeway, Minn.

Mr. Oehlert was born in Columbia County, the son of Walter and Bertha (Yohn) Oehlert. He was married to Barbara Boehm in 1955 in Portage. He was married to Sandra Zenk-Alseth in 1982.

Mr. Oehlert attended Rio High School and graduated in 1954. He worked for Brad Ragan, Madison, and later transferred to the Winona, Minn., plant in 1971.

Survivors include his daughters, Rona (Randy) Purdy, Renee (Jim) Infield, and Roxanne Marchetti; his mother, Berth Oehlert; stepchildren, Tammy Alseth, Michelle Alseth, Robert (Shelly) Alseth, and Jeff (Cindy) Alseth; 15 grandchildren one great-grandchild; brothers, Arnold and Eugene Oehlert; sisters, Jenny (Ln) Diels, Phyllis Witthun, Barbara (Melvin) Udell, Beverly Mae McDonald and Kay Oehlert.

He was preceded in death by his father; his first wife Barbara in 1979; his second wife, Sandra in 1982; one brother-in-law, Byron Witthun, and one sister-in-law, Mae Oehlert.

Friends may call on Tuesday, May 7, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Watkowski-Pronschinske Funeral Home, 201 Mankato Ave., Winona, Minn., and on Wednesday, from noon until the time of service at St. Martin's Ev. Lutheran Church, Winona, Minn.

Clara B. Kennedy
WATERTOWN - Clara B. Kennedy, age 100 of Watertown, passed away on Monday, May 6, 2002 at Beverly Terrace.

Funeral services will be on Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Henry Catholic Church with Rev. Bernard Rott officiating. Burial will be in St. Henry cemetery.

The Former Clara B. Schmidt was born on November 1, 1901 in Beaver Dam, the daughter of Theodore and Josephine Schmidt. On Sept. 17, 1923 she married Joseph Kennedy at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Beaver Dam. He preceded her in death on Oct. 20, 1981. Clara was a member of St. Henry Catholic Church and the Christian Mothers and Altar Confraternity.

Survivors include three daughters Lorraine (Huge) Heidt of Cambria, Patricia Schutt of Watertown and Luella Cahoon of Reeseville, two sons, Marvin (Irmagaard) Kennedy of Mukwonago and Kenneth (Sharon) Kennedy of Madison, twenty three grandchildren, forty two great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters and three brothers.

Family and friends may call on Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. Schmutzler-Vick Funeral Home and Cremation service is serving the family
