Clarence G. Borchardt
WATERTOWN - Clarence G. Borchardt, 83, of 1020 Hill St., Watertown, was taken to his heavenly home on Thursday, April 11, 2002, at Marquardt Memorial Hospital, with his family at his side.

The funeral will be held on Monday, April 15, at 11 a.m., at St. John's Lutheran Church, Watertown. The Rev. Rodney Warnecke will officiate. Burial will be in Lutheran cemetery, Watertown.

Mr. Borchardt was born on June 9, 1918, in the town of Watertown, the son of George and Bertha (Willing) Borchardt. He was married on Oct. 14, 1939, to Helen Schultz at St. John's Lutheran Church, Watertown.

Mr. Borchardt was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church, Watertown, and attended school in Watertown. He farmed in the town of Clyman for 52 years. In 1995, he retired and moved to Watertown. He enjoyed being a farmer and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchhildren. He will be deeply missed by all who loved and knew him. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Watertown.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Helen Borchardt, Watertown; four children, George (Jean) Borchardt, Marjorie (Casper) Schmitt, Susan (Richard) Doman, and James (Tena) Borchhardt, all of Watertown; one sister, Caroline Lenius, Watertown; one sister-in-law, Selma Borchardt, Jefferson; 18 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by this parents; one daughter, Beverly Mallow, in 1989; one granddaughter, Diane Witte, in 2001; one brother, Orville Borchardt; one sister, Evelyn Gleiter; and one sister in infancy.

Friends may call on Sunday, April 14, from 4 to 8 p.m., at the Hafemeister Funeral Home, Watertown, and on Monday, April 15, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at St. John's Lutheran Church, Watertown.

Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church and school, or the charity of one's choice.

Mary J. Abegglen
FALL RIVER - Mary J. Abegglen, 71, of 321 S. Main St., passed away on Friday, April 16, 2002 at her home after a battle with cancer.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 16, 2002 at 11 a.m. at the Jones-Jensen Funeral Home, Columbus. The Rev. James Bolda will officiate. Internment will be in Fall River cemetery.

Abegglen was born on May 29, 1930 in Columbus to Benjamin and Golda (Schultz) Green. She was married to Reuben Abegglen on Sept. 2, 1948. Mrs. Abegglen was formerly employed at Schumann Printers in Fall River for 13 years; Ann's Restaurant in Fall River for 10 years; and for the Fall River Post Office.

She is survived by her husband Reuben of Fall River; four sons Richard (Carol), Daniel (Marge); Brian (Vicki), Dale (Claudine) all of Fall River; two daughters Cindy Dickerson and Jane (Gary) Oelke both of Fall River; a daughter-in-law Marie Abegglen of Fall River; 14 grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; one sister Audrey (Robert) Whitcomb of Madison; three brothers Donald (Cookie) Green of Alabama, Russell (Marian) Green of Sun Prairie, and Dennis Green of Columbus nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a son Reggie.

Friends may call at the Jones-Jensen Funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday April 15, 2002.

Alta M. Mueller
Alta M. Mueller, 83, Mayville, formerly from Horicon, died December 12, 2001, at Rolling Meadows Nursing Home in Fond du Lac.

Alta was born in Crandon, July 3, 1918 to Leon and Grace (Towne) Bird. She joined four sisters and six brothers. She married Conrad Lee (Cooney) Mueller on June 2, 1954.

Alta joined the United States Army, and served as a guard at the White House during the Roosevelt and Eisenhower administration. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and served as Past Commander in Horicon. Alta was very active with Wauban girl scouts, where she was a leader and camp director. She also was a camp director of Camp Byron - YARC. Alta worked as a school bus driver for Johnson Bus Company and worked at The Flyway Supper Club as a kitchen helper. Alta did volunteer work for Bethesda Lutheran Home and at the Mayville Rehab Center. Alta was a self-employed interior decorator and painter for many friends and businesses in the area. After her children had grown she moved to Princeton where she liked to hunt and fish. After a number of years she moved to Mayville to be closer to family and friends whom she helped daily.

In July of 2001, Alta became a resident of Rolling Meadows Nursing Home in Fond du Lac.

She helped with the other patients who were suffered from Alzheimer's disease. She died suddenly from cancer. Due to her wishes a cremation took place.

Survivors include her two daughters Zurell (Dennis) Smith of Fond du Lac, Laurel (Glen) James of Fond du Lac, and one son Lee (fiancee Tina Kaiser) Mueller of Horicon; seven grandchildren Jenny, Stacey, Travis, Becky, Jamie, Jenni, and Amy; and one great-grandson Austin.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers; two sisters; and her husband Conrad in 1968.

Alta will be buried in Mayville, at Saint Mary's cemetery, on April 17, 2002.

Nora F. Akers
RANDOLPH - Nora Faye Akers, 61, of Randolph, was called to eternal peace on Saturday, April 13, 2002, at 11:30 a.m., at Continental Manor, Randolph.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 20, at 10 a.m., at the Murray Community Funeral Home, Beaver Dam. The Revs. John G. Breitwisch and Barry Akers will officiate. Inurnment will be at Oakwood cemetery, Beaver Dam.

Mrs. Akers was born on June 29, 1940, in Arkansas, the daughter of Homer Cothran and Beulah Council.

Mrs. Akers previously owned and operated The Meeting Place Restaurant and the Hair-aTage Beauty Salon in Randolph. She was also a real estate agent for Stan's Realty and Century 21 of Beaver Dam. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, Beaver Dam.

Survivors include two daughters, Beverly (Rick) Burk, Broken Arrow, Okla., and Valarie (Paul) Callies, Beaver Dam; four grandchildren, Amanda and Adam Burk, and Jessica and Jennifer Miszewski; two great-grandchildren, Jacob Jesko and Keanah Miszewski; one sister, Louise (Tom) Santino, Riverside, Calif.; former husband and friend, George Akers, Randolph; three children by marriage, Marty Akers, Greenfield Karen Akers, Menomonee Falls, and Kerry Akers, Beaver Dam; three grandchildren by marriage, Barry (Paula) Akers, Kokomo, Ind., Pam (Lee) Sobieszczyk, Greenfield, and Deb Akers, Greenfield; four great-grandchildren by marriage, Hannah, Benjamin and Caleb Akers, and Melissa Gerber.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Beulah Christianson; her father, Homer Cothran; one sister, Shirley Jarke; one nephew, Jim Privett, and one stepson, Mike Akers.

Family and friends will gather on Saturday, April 20, from 9:30 to 10 a.m., at the Murray Community Funeral Home, Beaver Dam.

Gerald Brath
KEWASKUM - Gerald "Jerry" Brath, 56, of Kewaskum, died peacefully on Saturday, April 20, 2002, at his home, following a short battle with cancer.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday, April 24, at 11 a.m., following a prayer service at 10:30 a.m., at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Kewaskum. The Rev. Mark Jones will officiate. Burial with full military rites will be in St. Mary's Catholic cemetery, Woodland.

Mr. Brath was born on July 25, 1945, in the town of Ashford, the son of Raymond and Rosemary (Simon) Brath.

Mr. Brath was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Kewaskum. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1967, stationed in Germany. He had been employed with the West Bend Company since 1964, and was a member of the 25 Year Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, wildlife, and had a great passion for polka dancing.

Survivors include two children, Brenda and Brandon Brath, both of Rubicon, and their mother Bev; three brothers, the Rev. Joseph (Joan) Brath, Kewaskum, Tony (Jean) Brath, Iron Ridge, and Marty (Becky) Brath, Horicon; four sisters, Cele (Bob) Pfeifer, St. Lawrence, Dorothy (Niles) Erickson, Green Bay, Donna (Karl) Neumann, Cedarburg, and Cindy (Jeff) Hammes, La Grande, Ore.; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Mary, in infancy; one brother, Francis Brath, and one godson, Kristopher Erickson.

Friends may call on Tuesday, April 23, from 4 to 8 p.m., with a prayer vigil at 7:30 p.m., at the Miller Funeral Home, 215 Forest Ave., Kewaskum.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, or the Alzheimer's Association.

Melissa Hanson
WAUPUN - Melissa Hanson, 16, of 608 N. Madison St., Waupun, died on Friday, April 19, 2002, as the result of an automobile accident.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday, April 23, at 10:30 a.m., at Immanuel United Methodist Church, Ripon. The Rev. Dave Busker will officiate.

Miss Hanson was born on Dec. 25, 1985, in Eau Claire, the daughter of Steven and Loni (Sandvig) Hanson.

Miss Hanson lived in the Eau Claire area until 1996, when she moved to Waupun. She was a sophomore at Waupun Senior High School, and was active in its chorus. She was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church, Ripon.

Survivors include her parents, Loni (Steve) Wendt, Waupun, and Steven (Lori) Hanson, Eau Claire; two brothers, Joshua Hanson, Egan, Minn., and Matthew Hanson, Waupun; maternal grandfather, Mel Sandvig, Plymouth; paternal grandparents, Wayne and Nona Hanson, Eau Claire; two stepbrothers, Aaron Wendt, Waupun, and Matthew Langkamp, Eau Claire; one stepsister, Sarah Wendt, Waupun; relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother.

Friends may call on Monday, April 22, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home, Waupun, and on Tuesday, April 23, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at Immanuel United Methodist Church, Ripon.

Alice Vande Kolk
Alice Vande Kolk 78, formerly of Waupun, died on Saturday, April 20, 2002, in Beaver Dam, where she had been a resident for the past six months.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, April 23, at 1 p.m., at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Waupun. The Rev. Michael Moran will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Mound cemetery, Waupun.

Mrs. Vande Kolk was born on March 16, 1924, in Beaver Dam, the daughter of Clement and Helen (Parecki) Neiman. She was married on June 29, 1946, to Garrit Vande Kolk in Beaver Dam.

Mrs. Vande Kolk and her husband resided in Waupun all their married life. She was employed with Weyenberg Shoe Factory, Beaver Dam, seasonally employed with Green Giant Canning Factory, Beaver Dam, and later employed with the Christian Home, Waupun. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Waupun. She loved her family, and enjoyed riding in the countryside. She also enjoyed fishing, bingo, and playing cards.

Survivors include her husband, Garrit Vande Kolk; two daughters, Barbara (Ray) Leivick, Beaver Dam, and Ruth (special friend Pete Jahn) Gayer, Sullivan; two sons, Dennis (Kathy) Vande Kolk, Oconomowoc, and Ronald (Donna) Vande Kolk, Wild Rose; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Bernard Neiman; four sisters, Irene Cigelski, Sylvia Frank, Eleanor (Clarence) Ferstl, and Delores Rueth, all of Beaver Dam; relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Friends may call on Monday, April 22, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home, Waupun.

Herbert "Onions" Salzwedel
Herbert "Onions" Salzwedel, 75, formerly of Columbus, died on Friday, April 19, 2002, at the Beaver Dam Care Center.

A private family funeral will be held on Monday, April 22, at 7 p.m., at the Zeidler Funeral Home, Columbus. The Rev. Daniel Simms will officiate. Burial will be in Hillside cemetery.

Mr. Salzwedel was born on Oct. 1, 1926, the son of Herbert and Mabel (Hemling) Salzwedel Sr.

Mr. Salzwedel was a 1947 graduate of Columbus High School. He served his country in the U.S. Navy and Air Force, retiring in 1970, when he went to work for Chrysler in Beaver Dam.

He will be sadly missed and mourned by his wife, Sharon Salzwedel, Columbus; one son, Joel Salzwedel, Columbus; one daughter, Dawn Larson, Scandia, Minn.; three brothers, Merlin Lucille) Salzwedel, Gerald (Elizabeth) Salzwedel, and Russell (Judy) Salzwedel, all of Columbus; three sisters, Marlene Schubring, Neenah, Fayann Kouchenour, Colorado, and Dorothy Eberle, Arkdale; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Roger and Gordon.

There will be no visitation.

The Zeidler Funeral Home, Columbus, is serving the family.

Mary M. Keegstra
Mary M. Keegstra, 68, of 116 Lakecrest Drive, Apt. 214, Beaver Dam, died on Tuesday, April 16, 2002, at Hillside Manor Nursing Home, Beaver Dam.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, April 20, at 11 a.m., at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Beaver Dam. The Rev. Gary Keegstra, OFM Cap., will officiate. Burial will be in St. Peter's cemetery, Beaver Dam.

Mrs. Keegstra was born on Jan. 10, 1934, in Boston, the daughter of Joseph and Martha (Tomlinson) Whitford. She was married on Oct. 23, 1954, to Lawrence H. Keegstra in Malden, Mass.

Mrs. Keegstra was employed as a lab assistant at Beaver Dam Community Hospital for many years. She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, Beaver Dam.

Survivors include one son, the Rev. Gary Keegstra, OFM Cap., Madison; two daughters, Jean (Alan) Cramer, Waukesha, and Julie (Bart) Radke, Beaver Dam; one sister, Theresa Whitford, Beaver Dam; five grandchildren; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lawrence, in 2000; one daughter, Lorrie Keegstra, and one sister, Frances Leach.

Friends may call on Saturday, April 20, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Beaver Dam.

The Koepsell Funeral Home, Beaver Dam, is serving the family.

Margaret E. Wendlandt
FOX LAKE - Margaret E. Wendlandt, 89, formerly of Markesan, died on Wednesday, April 17, 2002, at the Barrett House, Fox Lake.

The funeral will be held on Friday, April 19, at 11 a.m. at United Methodist Church, Markesan. The Rev. Rom Pegram will officiate. Burial will be in the Markesan cemetery.

Mrs. Wendlandt was born on April 14, 1913, in Green Lake County, the daughter of Herman and Augusta (Schultz) Lenz. She was married on Sept. 1, 1934, to Myron Wendlandt.

Mrs. Wendlandt attended one year of Normal School and was a teacher for a number of years. She was a lifelong member of United Methodist Church, Markesan. She lived and farmed all her married life around Markesan and Fox Lake until 1964. She and her husband retired and lived on Little Green Lake. They wintered in Winter Garden, Fla., for 20 years. She enjoyed shuffleboard in Florida and playing rook with friends and family. She then moved to an apartment in Markesan until October 2001, when she moved into the Barrett House, Fox Lake.

Survivors include one son, Larry (Yvonne) Wendlandt, Beaver Dam; one grandson, Rick Wendlandt, Beaver Dam; two sisters, Esther Schultz, Waupun, and Gladys (Dick) Kluckman, Markesan; one brother-in-law, Elery Marquart, Markesan; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Myron, on Aug. 3, 1994; six sisters, Ella Lenz, Anna Koechl, Dora Schwandt, Irma Fox, Marie Schwoch, and Edith Marquart, and two brothers, Marvin and Art Lenz.

Friends may call on Friday, April 19, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at United Methodist Church, Markesan.

A memorial has been established.

The Wachholz Family Funeral Home, Markesan, is serving the family.
