SPRING VALLEY - Elsie Fagerland, 85, of Spring Valley, died on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002, at her home.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 13, at 11 a.m., at Gilman Lutheran Church, Spring Valley. The Rev. Carmen Peterson will officiate. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, Feb. 14, at 11 a.m. at Spring Prairie cemetery, rural DeForest. The Rev. Rolf Olson will officiate.

Survivors include one brother, Albert Nelson, Columbus; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Friends may call on Tuesday, Feb. 12, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Keehr Funeral Home, Spring Valley, and on Wednesday, Feb. 13, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at Gilman Lutheran Church, Spring Valley.

Raymond J. Gernetzke
JUNEAU - Raymond J. Gernetzke, 84, of Juneau, died on Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2002, at the Beaver Dam Care Center.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, Feb. 23, at 11 a.m., at Salem Ev. Lutheran Church, Lowell. The Rev. Paul Vander Galien will officiate. Burial will be in the Lowell cemetery, village of Lowell, with military graveside services conducted by the Lowell VFW Post 9392.

Mr. Gernetzke was born on Jan. 18, 1918, in the town of Lowell, Dodge County, the son of Leonard and Leta (Klug) Gernetzke. He was married to Doris Gerbitz on Aug. 14, 1943, at St. Peter's Church, Oak Grove.

Mr. Gernetzke served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Europe and the Battle of the Bulge in the armored division. He was a member of the Reeseville American Legion Post 190 and the Lowell VFW Post 9392. He worked at the Clyman canning factory and then farmed in the Juneau area for many years. He was a member of the Salem Ev. Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife, Doris Gernetzke, Juneau; two children, Kenneth (Jacque) Gernetzke, Lake Mills, and Beverly (Gary) Gullickson, Watertown; seven grandchildren; three brothers, Edward (Maxine) Gernetzke, Watertown, Donald Gernetzke, Milwaukee, and Robert (Marie) Gernetzke, Arizona; three sisters, Hazel Kelnhofer, Wauwatosa, Lila Dombrowski, Watertown, and Marion (Richard) LaRocco, Ohio; nieces, nephews, relative and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one infant son, Roger; two sisters, Verna Hutto and Irma Buss, and one brother, Harold Gernetzke.

Friends may call on Saturday, Feb. 23, from 9 to 11 a.m., at Salem Ev. Lutheran Church, Lowell.

Memorials may be made to the Salem Lutheran Church Building Addition Fund.

The Murray Community Funeral Home, Reeseville, is serving the family.

Minnie Dykstra
WAUPUN - Minnie Kumber Dykstra, 93, of Waupun, died on Saturday, Feb. 16, 2002.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 19, at 11 a.m., at the Kohls Community Funeral Home, Waupun. The Rev. Jeff Brower will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Memory Garden, town of Trenton.

Mrs. Dykstra was born on May 7, 1908, in Waupun, the daughter of Nick and Minnie (Wilderman) DeGraff. She was married on Aug. 18, 1926, to Ernest Kumber. She was later married on Jan. 7, 1971, to Rink Dykstra.

Mrs. Dykstra owned and operated restaurants in Waupun and Randolph. She was a member of Bethel Christian Reformed Church, Waupun.

Survivors include four children, Marcella "Sally" (Alvin) Vant Hoff, Waupun, Joan (Donald) Howard, Union Grove, Joyce Kumber, Tallahassee, Fla., and Kenneth (Jane) Kumber, Fond du Lac; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; three stepsons, Henry (Elizabeth) Dykstra, Vesper, Larry (Linda) Dykstra, Cambria, and Bruce (Nancy) Dykstra, Madison; two stepdaughters, Juliene (Dwight) Ruston, Rockford, Ill., and Verene (Al) Huizenga, Warrenville, Ill.; 17 step-grandchildren; 15 step-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Ernest Kumber, on Dec. 24, 1969; her second husband, Rink Dykstra, on April 20, 1993; one daughter, Carol Daley; three brothers; three sisters; one half-brother; three stepbrothers, and two stepsisters.

Friends may call on Tuesday, Feb. 19, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the Kohls Community Funeral Home, Waupun.

Obed H. Braemer
MAYVILLE - Obed H. Braemer 91, formerly of Iron Ridge, died on Sunday, Feb. 17, 2002, at the Mayville Nursing Home.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 19, at 7 p.m., at Bethany Ev. Lutheran Church, Hustisford. Burial will be on Wednesday, Feb. 20, at 10 a.m., in the Hustisford cemetery.

Mr. Braemer was born on Oct. 26, 1910, in Hustisford, the son of Herman and Emma (Guelzow) Braemer. He was married on June 27, 1943, to Eleanor Brunn at St. John's Lutheran Church, town of Trenton.

Mr. Braemer worked the family farm which was homesteaded by his great-grandfather in 1848. He was a member of the board of directors for Hustisford State Bank from 1969 to 1998, past board of director memberof the Hustisford School District, and past president and board of director member of the Rock River Co-op, Watertown. He attended Bethany Ev. Lutheran Grade School, Hustisford, was a 1928 graduate of Mayville High School, and a graduate of the University of Wisconsin College of Agriculture, Madison. He was a lifetime member of Bethany Ev. Lutheran Church, Hustisford.

Survivors include one son, Winfred (Lois) Braemer, Iron Ridge; two grandchildren, Scott Braemer, Mayville, and Amy Braemer, Germantown; one brother-in-law, Wayne Schmidt; relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Eleanor; one daughter, Eileen Schmidt, and one sister, Mabel Karberg.

Friends may call on Tuesday, Feb. 19, from 4 to 7 p.m., at Bethany Ev. Lutheran Church Hustisford.

Memorials may be made to Bethany Ev. Lutheran Church or School, Hustisford.

Francis Robinson
FOX LAKE - Francis Robinson, 84, of W10543 Meadow Lane, Fox Lake, died on Friday, Feb. 15, 2002, at Beaver Dam Community Hospital.

Funeral services are pending with Koepsell Funeral Home, Beaver Dam.

Harley E. Pegelow
HORICON - Harley E. Pegelow, 87, of Horicon, died on Friday, Feb. 15, 2002, at the Mayville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

The funeral will be held on Monday, Feb. 18, at 7 p.m., at the Murray Community Funeral Home, Horicon. The Rev. Dan Seehafer will officiate. Burial will be in Oakhill cemetery, Horicon.

Mr. Pegelow was born on Dec. 12, 1914, in the town of Oak Grove, Dodge County, the son of Edwin and Gertrude (Sieloff) Pegelow. He was married to Hilda Holz, on May 25, 1940, at St. Stephen's Church, Horicon.

Mr. Pegelow graduated from Horicon High School. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a hospital corps. man. He worked as an auto mechanic and then as a welder at Mayville Metal, retiring in 1980. He was a lifelong member of St. Stephen's Lutheran Church, Horicon.

Survivors include his wife, Hilda Pegelow, Horicon; one son, Gary (Maryann) Pegelow, Waukesha; two daughters, Karen Borchardt, Horicon, and Jayne (Jack) Flouro, Horicon; six grandchildren, John (Samantha) Pegelow, Madison, Andrew (Kathy) Pegelow, Waukesha, Allen Borchardt, Horicon, Lee (Amy) Borchardt, Tennessee, Bradley Flouro, Horicon, and Julie Flouro, Horicon; one brother-in-law, Roy (Ruth) Holz, Watertown; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law.

Friends may call on Monday, Feb. 18, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Murray Funeral Home, Horicon.

Memorials may be made to St. Stephen's Lutheran Church, Horicon.

David E. Lloyd
CAMBRIA - David E. Lloyd, 88, of rural Cambria, died Friday Feb. 15, 2002, at the Divine Savior Nursing Home, Portage.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 19, at 11 a.m., at the First Presbyterian Church, Cambria. The Revs. Julie WaterDu, Neal and Carole Lloyd will officiate. Burial will follow in the Cambria cemetery.

Mr. Lloyd was born on Aug. 27, 1913, in Courtland township, the son of Evan Baldwin and Jennie May (Jones) Lloyd. He was married to Marion Jean Dodge in Cambria on May 16, 1942.

Mr. Lloyd was educated in the Cambria school system and was a 1935 graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, with a degree in animal husbandry. At the university he was active in Men's Glee Club and musical productions. He continued to enjoy music and the preservation of the Welsh heritage through the annual singing festivals (Gymanfa Ganu). He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Cambria, all his life and active in all church activities. He served as past elder and deacon. He farmed all his life and engaged in several cooperative activities. He served as a director on the State Executive Board of the Wisconsin Farmers Union, a division of the National Farmers Union, for 18 years. In 1976 he was elected state vice president retiring in 1983. He also served on the board of directors for Courtland-Springvale Township Insurance from 1965 to 1995 and dedicated many years to the Equity Co-op Shipping Association and the Eastern Columbia Local Farmers Union. He will always be remembered as "Mr. Farmers Union" and as an avid supporter of all causes encouraging the welfare of agriculture and the family farmer.

Survivors include his wife, Marion, Cambria; two daughters, Eleanor (David) Layton, Nevada, and Jeannette Jones, Cambria; one step-daughter, Sherry (Wayne) Bornich, Portage; two step-sons, Phillip (Marilyn) Slinger, Green Bay, and Douglas (Mary Ann) Slinger, Beaver Dam; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, John in 1972; one son-in-law, Donald Jones; one grandson, Hugh Layton, and one great-granddaughter Jazmyn Hope Stumph.

Friends may call on Monday, Feb. 18, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Kratz-Smedema Funeral Home, Cambria, and on Tuesday, Feb. 19, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church.

Eleanore C. Marek
Eleanore C. Marek, 79, beloved mother and wife, of 705 Denning Ave., Beaver Dam, died peacefully on Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, at her home.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, Feb. 16, at 11 a.m., at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Beaver Dam. The Rev. William Key will officiate. Burial will be in St. Michael's cemetery, town of Beaver Dam.

Mrs. Marek was born on Feb. 25, 1922, in Tilden, the daughter of John and Anna (Meyer) Harings. She was married on July 31, 1945, to Roman J. Marek in Tilden.

Mrs. Marek worked at JCPenney in Beaver Dam for many years. She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Beaver Dam.

Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Roman J. Marek; four daughters, Cheryl (George) Domrose, Pewaukee, Sandra (Jon) Cechvala, DeForest, Gail (Thomas) Zwicky, Green Bay, and Lori (Guenther) Bergmann, Hilton Head, S.C.; six grandchildren, Catherine Cechvala, Meredith Cechvala, Christina Zwicky, Ryan Zwicky, Eleanor Bergmann and Anna Bergmann; five brothers, John, Leon, Herb, Matthew and Arnold Harings; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Bernadette Loehnis, and two brothers, Ferdinand and Gilbert,

Friends may call on Friday, Feb. 15, from 6 to 8 p.m., with a Rosary at 7:30 p.m., at the Murray Community Funeral Home, Beaver Dam.

Memorials may be made to the Beaver Dam Hillside Hospice program or the American Cancer Society.

Herman Lerum
RIO - Herman Lerum, 93, of Sunnyridge LLC, Rio, died on Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, Feb. 16, at 12:30 p.m., at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Rio. The Rev. Mark Buchan will officiate. Burial will be in Bonnet Prairie cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the Rio American Legion Post 208.

Mr. Lerum was born on June 12, 1908, in River Falls, the son of Peter and Gertina (Vangen) Lerum. He was married on May 8, 1931, to Ingeborg "Bud" Urdahl in Quebec, Canada.

Mr. Lerum was a 1927 graduate of Rio High School. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy. He farmed in the Rio area, milking cows and crop farming. He served as Otsego town board chairman for 27 years. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Rio, and the Rio American Legion Post 208.

Survivors include one son, Peter Lerum, Rio; one sister, Corinne McNally, Germantown; nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ingeborg, on Feb. 20, 1989; one sister, Marie Lewis; one brother-in-law, Jerry McNally; two nephews, LeRoy Lewis and John McNally, and one niece, Yvonne Vanselow.

Friends may call on Saturday, Feb. 16, from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Rio.

The Vangen Funeral Home, Rio, is serving the family.

Frieda Karow
RANDOLPH - Frieda Karow, 89, formerly of Columbus, died on Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002, at Continental Manor, Randolph.

A private funeral will be held on Thursday, Feb. 14, at 2 p.m., at the Zeidler Funeral Home, Columbus. The Rev. Daniel Sims will officiate. Burial will be in Hillside cemetery, Columbus.

Mrs. Karow was born on Jan. 12, 1913, in Withee, the daughter of Immanuel and Clara (Schiller) Patzer.

Mrs. Karow was a lifelong area resident. She was a cook for many years at the former Mueller's Restaurant, Columbus. She loved and enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also loved gardening and crocheting. She was a member of Zion Ev. Lutheran Church, Columbus.

Survivors include two sons, Philip (Joan) Karow, and Ralph Karow, both of Randolph; one daughter-in-law, Joan Karow, Fall River; six grandchildren, Sheila (Mike) Crook, Pauline (Dan) Burke, both of Beaver Dam, Scott (Christine) Karow, Fall River, Kelly Karow, Waupun, Kim (Brian) Berger, Rio, and Keri (John) VerHage, Randolph; 10 great-grandchildren, Michael, Suzie and Matthew Crook, Marissa and Dalton Burke, Kimberly and Megan Karow, Abigail Berger, Margaret and John VerHage; two sisters, Ida Pergande, Randolph, and Tillie Buss, Withee; relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her former husband; one infant daughter, and two sisters.

There will be no visitation.

Helen Galler
MARKESAN - Helen Galler, 94, formerly of Waupun, died on Friday, Feb. 8, 2002, at the Markesan Resident Home.

The funeral will be held on Thursday, Feb. 14, at 10:30 a.m., at the Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home, Waupun. The Rev. Michael Bausch will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Mound cemetery, Waupun.

Mrs. Galler was born on May 11, 1907, in Britton, Okla., the daughter of Hale and Margaret (Dewey) Perrine. She was married to Albert Northrup. She was married in 1968 to George "Brownie" Galler in Waupun.

Mrs. Galler was a 1930 graduate of Whitewater State College with a degree in education. She taught school in Madison prior to moving to Waupun in 1937. Her career in business in Waupun was varied, including accounting, legal secretary, justice of the peace, postmaster and city assessor.

Mrs. Galler was the founder of Waupun Realty Co., from which she retired in 1968, when her son Dick continued the business until 1994. She enjoyed golfing, bowling and her favorite game of playing bridge. She was a member of Union Congregational Church, Waupun, Order of the Eastern Star, VFW Auxiliary and the Waupun DAR.

Survivors include two sons, Richard (Carol) Northrup, Waupun, and Robert (Judy) Northrup, Balsam Lake; one stepson, Raymond Galler, Hudson; four granddaughters; relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Galler; one grandson; three sisters, and one brother.

Friends may call on Thursday, Feb. 14, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home, Waupun.
