Bernice E. Schwoch
Bernice E. Schwoch, 94, of Beaver Dam, died on Friday, July 19, 2002, at the Beaver Dam Care Center.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday, July 24, at noon, at Trinity Church-United Methodist, Beaver Dam. The Rev. Mark R. Swanson will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery.

Mrs. Schwoch was born on Nov. 9, 1907, at home in Columbus, the daughter of William and Anna (Kietzman) Selk. She was married on March 24, 1928, to Clarence Schwoch at the Rev. Wiese's home in Beaver Dam.

Mrs. Schwoch farmed alongside her husband for many years, and enjoyed her many gardens, flower beds and card playing. She worked as a seamstress at Beaver Cleaners for 26 years. She was a member of Trinity Church-United Methodist, Beaver Dam, and was active in the Women's Group and the Altar Guild. She was also a member of the Dodge County Homemakers for 50 years and held county and district offices. She was a past member of the Farm Bureau. She had been a 4-H leader for many years and taught many girls how to sew. She was a volunteer at Beaver Dam Community Hospital for 10 years where she did sewing projects in the activities department. She was also an avid reader. She especially enjoyed reading about Wisconsin and its history.

Survivors include three daughters, Lois Tiedt, Columbus, Phyllis (John) Budde, Brookfield, and Nancy Welsch, Beaver Dam; one son, David (Lorraine) Schwoch, Beaver Dam; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one brother, Sturley Selk, Columbus; two sisters, Wilma (Fred) Raith, and Avis Pribbenow, both of Columbus; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Schwoch; one sister, Ada Sneddon; one brother in infancy, and one son-in-law, Larry Welsch.

Friends may call on Wednesday, July 24, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at Trinity Church-United Methodist, Beaver Dam.

Memorials may be made to Trinity Church-United Methodist, Beaver Dam, in Bernice's name.

The Murray Community Funeral Home, Beaver Dam, is serving the family.

Sandra Donhowe
COLUMBUS - Sandra Hermanson Donhowe, 57, died on Tuesday, July 16, 2002, in Appleton.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 27, at 11 a.m., at Faith Lutheran Church, Columbus. The Rev. Robert Moberg will officiate.

Ms. Donhowe was born on Jan. 27, 1945, in Columbus, the daughter of Carl and Dorothy Hermanson.

Ms. Donhowe was a graduate of Columbus High School and Luther College, Decorah, Iowa. She dedicated her life to humanitarian efforts in the Peace Corps in Bombay, India, acting as a paralegal in VISTA (Volunteers In Service To America), and professionally as a teacher for students with special needs in South Dakota, Georgia and Wisconsin. She was a champion of women's rights, the Native American Movement, and preservation of the environment.

Survivors include her mother, Dorothy Hermanson, Columbus; brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Ruth, Columbus; sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Larry Robinson, Livermore, Calif; seven nieces and nephews; relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Carl.

In honor of her love of nature, please make memorials to the National Audubon Society, The Nature Conservancy, or Wisconsin Friends of John Muir.

The Jones-Jensen Funeral Home, Columbus, is serving the family.

Lester Born
WAUPUN - Lester Born, 93, formerly of Milligan Road, Waupun, died on Monday, July 22, 2002, at Waupun Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be held on Thursday, July 25, at 11 a.m., at Immanuel Lutheran Church, North Burnett. The Rev. Floyd Goglin will officiate. Burial will be in North Burnett cemetery.

Mr. Born was born on May 19, 1909, in the town of Chester, the son of Robert and Maria (Berndt) Born. He was married on Nov. 23, 1932, to Norma Toll.

Mr. Born and his wife farmed in the town of Chester all their married life. They had been employed by the Waupun School District as custodian and cook at the Chester School for several years. He was also a former town of Chester assessor and constable. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, North Burnett.

Survivors include one son, Robert (Judith) Born, Beaver Dam; one daughter, Betty Kartechner, Bethlehem, Pa.; 10 grandchildren; one sister, Gladys McConnell, Waupun; two brothers-in-law; four sisters-in-law; relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Born, in 1993; his sisters, Mildred Giese, in 1988, and Ardes, in 1916; his brother, Fredrick, in 1916; infant brother and sister twins, Mary and Robert, in 1912; five brothers-in-law, and two sisters-in-law.

Friends may call on Thursday, July 25, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at Immanuel Lutheran Church, North Burnett.

The Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home, Waupun, is serving the family.

Rev. Victor T. Hellman
WAUPUN - Rev. Victor T. Hellman, 72, of Waupun, died on Wednesday, July 24, 2002, at his home.

In celebration of his life, a worship service will be held on Monday, July 29, at 7 p.m., at Benediction Lutheran Church, 86th and Fond du Lac Ave., Milwaukee. The Rev. Floyd Gogolin will officiate. Burial will be at 11 a.m., in the North Burnett Union cemetery

Rev. Hellman was born on July 19, 1930, in Ponca City, Okla., the son of Victor C. and Elsie (Geiser) Hellman. He was married on Aug. 18, 1951, to Barbara R. Wegener at St. John Lutheran Church, Lake Charles, La.

Rev. Hellman was a 1957 graduate of Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, where he received his degree in divinity. Serving his Lord and savior, at the Missouri Synod Lutheran Church, North and South Dakota, Louisiana and Texas before accepting his call to Benediction Lutheran Church, where he ministered for 22 years before he retired in July of 1994. Following his retirement, Rev. Hellman and his wife moved to the Waupun area where he continued to enjoy fishing, gardening, bowling and traveling.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara R. Hellman, Waupun; one daughter, Rebecca Marie Kronshagen, Germantown; two sons, Timothy Allen (Karen) Hellman, Oshkosh, and Thomas Arthur Hellman, Waupun; one daughter-in-law, Debbie Hellman, Fond du Lac; eight grandchildren, Nicole Michelle Kronshagen, Tyler Wayne Kronshagen, Kelley Suzanne Kronshagen, Krista Renee Hellman, Kyle James Hellman, Joshua James Hellman, John Thomas Hellman, and Ann Cason; one sister, Janet Le Beau, Louisiana; relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by one son, Matthew Paul Hellman, in 1998; his parents, and one sister, Evelyn Belaire.

A memorial is being established in Rev. Hellman's name.

Kevin L. Rens
WAUPUN - Kevin L. Rens, 36, of Brandon, died on Friday, July 26, 2002, as a result of an auto accident.

The funeral will be held on Monday, July 29, at 10:30 a.m., at Trinity Reformed Church, Waupun. The Rev. Phil Rauwerdink will officiate. Burial will be in Wedges Prairie cemetery, Ladoga.

Mr. Rens was born on July 20, 1966, in Oshkosh, the son of Arlyn and Lonna (Harmsen) Rens. He was married on Aug. 17, 1985, to Cheryl Seemann in Waupun.

Mr. Rens attended Waupun schools, graduating in 1984. Following marriage, he and his wife resided in the Waupun area. He was self-employed as a farmer, trucker and most recently employed by Serwe Implement, Campbellsport, as a service technician. He enjoyed farming and working with equipment. He was a member of Trinity Reformed Church, Waupun, and was involved in fund-raisers through motorcycling.

Survivors include one daughter, Amanda Rens, Waupun; one son, Brant Rens, Waupun; his parents, Arlyn and Lonna Rens, Brandon; two sisters, Tammy Lee Jones, Green Bay, and Tammy Lynn (Jerry) Pattee, Brandon; paternal grandmother, Laurene Rens, Brandon; relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents and paternal grandfather.

Friends may call on Sunday, July 28, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home, Waupun, and Monday, July 29, from 9:30 a.m., at Trinity Reformed Church, Waupun.

Russell J. Gradel
CARROLLTON, Texas - Lt. Col. Russell James Gradel, 78, of Carrollton, Texas, died on Friday, July 26, 2002.

The funeral will be held on Thursday, Aug. 1, at 11 a.m., at the Dallas-Fort Worth National cemetery, Texas.

Mr. Gradel was born on Dec. 18, 1923, in Beaver Dam, the son of John and Leada Gradel.

Mr. Gradel trained field trail Labrador retrievers and was a highly decorated fighter pilot in the U.S. Air Force in World War II.

Survivors include three daughters, Carron Pace, Minneapolis, Minn., Sandi Smith, Columbia, Mo., and Trish Boone, Phoenix; two sons, James Gradel, Oak Point, Texas, and Bob Gradel, Dallas; two sisters, Dorothy and Rita; one brother, Bob Gradel; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; relatives and friends.

Friends may call on Wednesday, July 31, from 6 to 9 p.m., at the Dalton and Son Funeral Home, 1550 N. Stemmons, Lewisville, Texas.

Virginia Schliesman
Virginia "Ginger" Schliesman, 60, of 807 S. Center St., Beaver Dam, died on Friday, July 26, 2002, at University Hospital, Madison.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday, July 30, at 11 a.m., at the First Ev. Lutheran Church, Beaver Dam. The Rev. Mark Jensen will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Memory Gardens, town of Trenton.

Mrs. Schliesman was born on Oct. 7, 1941, in Beaver Dam, the daughter of Harold and Lillian (Edwards) Link. She was married to Frank Schliesman at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Beaver Dam.

Mrs. Schliesman graduated from Mounds Midway School of Nursing in Minnesota. She started out in nursing and later became a school bus driver. She also worked at Monarch Range, Beaver Dam. She was a member of the First Ev. Lutheran Church, Beaver Dam, the Eastern Star, and the Beaver Dam Bowling Association. She was also active in the Girl Scouts and Rif Raf.

Survivors include her husband, Frank Schliesman, Beaver Dam; her children, Tammy (Gerald) Westphal, Beaver Dam, Todd Schliesman, Madison, and Troy (Michelle) Schliesman, Juneau; one brother, Glen (Barbara) Link, Beaver Dam; one sister, Janet (Jerome) Pieper, Beaver Dam; four grandchildren, Samantha and Kristine Westphal, Sara and Emily Schliesman; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, David Link.

Friends may call on Monday, July, 29, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Koepsell Funeral Home, Beaver Dam, and on Tuesday, July 30, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the First Ev. Lutheran Church, Beaver Dam.

Harold Kok
BRANDON - Harold Kok, 81, of Brandon, died on Saturday, July 27, 2002, at his home.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday, July 30, at 10:30 a.m., at Bethel Reformed Church, Brandon. The Rev. Al Schut will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Mound cemetery, town of Alto.

Mr. Kok was born on Oct. 4, 1920, in Columbia County, the son of Dick and Eike (Buekema) Kok. He was married on July 24, 1944, to Janet Flier in Alto.

Mr. Kok joined the U.S. Navy in 1942, serving aboard the USS Natoma Bay in the Pacific. The ship was damaged in a kamikaze attack in 1944, and returned to the United States briefly for repairs. He returned to Wisconsin in 1944. Following World War II, he and his wife farmed for 25 years in the Waupun, Markesan and Brandon areas. He worked as a mechanic for American Stores of Fairwater in the 1970s and later was a partner of Kok Brothers Spraying, Alto. He and his wife were janitors for 15 years at Bethel Reformed Church, Brandon, of which they were members.

Survivors include his wife, Janet Kok, Brandon; five sons, Duane (Sally) Kok, Brandon, Glendon (Roz) Kok, Ripon, Jerry (Deb) Kok Waupun, Dennis (Jackie) Kok, and Douglas Kok, both of Brandon; five daughters, Diane (Lee) Fenendael, Ripon, Linda (Charles) Hardesty, Brandon, Kathleen (Dean) Dornfeld, Fairwater, Valerie (Ken) Bille, Waupun, and Renee (Ron) Theyerl, Brandon; 33 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Martha Hopp, Waupun, and Edith Smit, Brandon; two brothers, Charles (Bernice) Kok, Alto, and Harvey (LaVerne) Kok, Brandon; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Joan Kok, Edward and Mildred Flier, Harvey and Clara Mae Flier, and Corneil Flier, all of Waupun; relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one granddaughter, one brother, one sister, three brothers-in-law, two sisters-in-law, and three nephews.

Friends may call on Monday, July 29, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home, Waupun, and on Tuesday, July 30, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at Bethel Reformed Church, Brandon.

Elmer Schoeffel
HORICON - Elmer Schoeffel, 80, of Horicon, died on Sunday, July 28, 2002, at Beaver Dam Community Hospital.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday, July 31, at 11 a.m., at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church, Horicon. The Rev. Daniel Seehafer will officiate. Burial will be in Oakhill cemetery, Horicon.

Mr. Schoeffel was born on Sept. 19, 1921, in the town of Oak Grove, the son of William and Emma (Muenchow) Schoeffel. He was married on Sept. 3, 1949, to Evelyn Werner at the North Burnett Church, town of Burnett.

Mr. Schoeffel was a 1939 graduate of Beaver Dam High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force in World War II in Italy. He was a member of the Horicon American Legion Post 157, was employed with John Deere Horicon Works for 32 years, was a member of St. Stephen Lutheran Church, Horicon, and served as a financial secretary for a number of years.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Schoeffel, Horicon; one son, Steven Schoeffel, Minnesota; one brother, Harvey (Elsie) Schoeffel, Beaver Dam; one sister, Evelyn Beske, Beaver Dam; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother-in-law, Carl Beske.

Friends may call on Wednesday, July 31, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at St. Stephen Lutheran Church, Horicon.

Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Florence V. Beilke
MAYVILLE - Florence V. Beilke, 82, of 730 Meadow Lane, Mayville, died on Thursday, July 25, 2002, at St. Luke Medical Center, Milwaukee.

The funeral was held on Sunday, July 28, at 2:30 p.m., at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church, Huilsburg. The Rev. Timothy Bauer officiated. Burial was in Trinity cemetery, Huilsburg.

Mrs. Beilke was born on Dec. 29, 1919, in Hartford, the daughter of Alfred and Hertha (Westphal) Horst. She was married on June 1, 1940, to Elroy A. Beilke in Hartford.

Mrs. Beilke was a graduate of Hartford High School. She was a member of Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church, Huilsburg, the Trinity Ladies Aid, and the Mayville Senior Citizens.

Survivors include three daughters, Joyce (Daniel) O'Keane, Colgate, Bonnie (Charlie) Phelps, Atlanta, and Susan (John Benassu) Beilke, Portland, Ore.; four sisters, Viola (Jim) Grady, Neosho, Jeanette Hausmann, Elaine (Willard) Kaun, both of West Bend, and Gloria (Floyd) Luedtke, Shawano; one brother, Alfred (Pearl) Horst Jr., Hartford; two grandchildren, Erin Bradley, Atlanta, and Jason (Ali Naughton) O'Keane, Minneapolis; one great-grandchild, Sophie O'Keane, Minneapolis; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elroy Beilke, and two sisters.

Friends called on Sunday, July 28, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m., at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church, Huilsburg.

The Koepsell Funeral Home, Mayville, served the family.
