John W. Peterson
RIO - John W. Peterson, 52, of Rio, died on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2002, at Columbus Community Hospital.

A private memorial service and inurnment of his cremains will be held.

Mr. Peterson was born on May 24, 1950, in Columbus, the son of George N. and Maxine (Glover) Peterson. He was married on Oct. 17, 1980, to Mary Donner in Portage.

Mr. Peterson was a 1968 graduate of Rio High School. He was a farmer and a resident of Rio all his life. He did crop farming and raised cattle. He was a lifelong member of Bonnet Prairie Lutheran Church, Rio.

Survivors include his wife of 21 years, Mary Peterson, Rio; two sisters, Mary (Terry) Olrick, Rio, and Karen (Kelly) Bleich, Randolph; three brothers-in-law; two sisters-in-law; uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, George N. Peterson, on March 21, 1992; his mother, Maxine Peterson, on April 27, 2002; father-in-law, Edward Donner Sr.; mother-in-law, Alyene Donner, and one brother-in-law, Robert Donner.

Memorials may be made to the Bonnet Prairie Lutheran Church, Rio, or the Multiple Sclerosis Society in John's memory.

The Vangen Funeral Home, Rio, is serving the family.

Joy J. Schmidt
FALL RIVER - Joy Jolene Schmidt, 22, of Fall River, died on Sunday, Aug. 11, 2002, at her home.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 14, at 11 a.m., at St. John's Lutheran Church, Doylestown. The Rev. James Bolda will officiate. Burial will be in the Cambria cemetery.

Miss Schmidt was born on March 16, 1980, the daughter of Bruce Allen and Angie Delores (Baker) Schmidt.

Miss Schmidt was baptized at the Zion Ev. Lutheran Church, Friesland, with the Rev. Jonathan Rimmert officiating. She attended the Cambria and Randolph school systems, before attending Portage High School, where she received a certificate for the completion of a course of study on June 8, 2001. She will always be remembered as a fun loving young woman who always smiled, loved to listen to music and go for car rides.

She will be sadly missed and mourned by two sisters, Lois (Brian) Schepp, Pardeeville, and Linda (Chris) Lindert, Rio; one brother, Warren (Karen) Schmidt, Fall River; maternal grandmother, Irene Baker, Fall River; nieces; nephews; special caregivers, Tracy Lowe, Jodi Horne, Yvonne Simonson, and Violet Bono; all her teachers and many other dear friends and family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, on July 1, 1983; maternal grandfather, Floyd Baker; paternal grandparents, Wilber and Irene Schmidt, and three uncles, Ron Mielke, Lorin and Herbert Herman.

Friends may call on Wednesday, Aug. 14, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at St. John's Lutheran Church, Doylestown.

The Kratz-Smedema Funeral Home, Cambria, is serving the family.

John W. Weber
HORICON - John W. Weber, 77, of 520 Park Drive, Horicon, died on Saturday, Aug. 10, 2002, at Beaver Dam Community Hospital.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 13, at 12:30 p.m., at St. Stephen's Ev. Lutheran Church, Horicon. The Rev. Daniel Seehafer will officiate. Military rites will be conducted by the Horicon American Legion Post 157. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery, Horicon.

Mr. Weber was born on July 16, 1925, in Horicon, the son of William H. and Delia (Hembel) Weber. He was married on June 19, 1954, to Dorthy Rudolph in Horicon.

Mr. Weber was a 1943 graduate of Horicon High School, and attended the School of Auctioneering in Minnesota. He was a veteran of two wars, serving in the Merchant Marines during World War II, and in the U.S. Army's 700 Ordinance, 45th Division during the Korean War. He retired from John Deere Horicon Works in 1983. He was a lifelong member of St. Stephen's Ev. Lutheran Church, Horicon, a member of the Horicon American Legion Post 157, past president of the Horicon Kiwanis Club, and a gun safety instructor for 35 years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and took great pride in his woodworking, yard, garden and apple orchard. He enjoyed his lake home in the northwoods of Wisconsin. He and his wife raised, trained and trialed golden retrievers for many years.

Survivors include his wife, Dorthy Weber, Horicon; one son, Michael (Barbara) Weber, Roselle, Ill.; one brother, Martin (Delores) Weber, Horicon; two grandchildren, Rebecca and Ryan Weber; his dog, Sadie; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; mother- and father-in-law; two sisters, Elizabeth Schwarze and Margaret Bertelt, and two nieces, Gail Weber and Wynn Irish.

Friends may call on Tuesday, Aug. 13, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at St. Stephen's Ev. Lutheran Church, Horicon.

Memorials may be made to St. Stephen's Ev. Lutheran Church, Horicon.

John L. Buwalda
WAUPUN - John L. Buwalda, 71, of Waupun, died of cancer on Sunday, Aug. 11, 2002, at his home

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 14, at 11 a.m., at the Alto Reformed Church. The Revs. Gregg Pusateri and Ted Medema will officiate. Burial was held earlier.

Mr. Buwalda was born on July 11, 1931, the son of Nick and Hazel (Hopp) Buwalda. He was married on Aug. 31, 1951, to Joyce Glewen.

Mr. Buwalda and his wife lived in the Waupun area all their life. He was employed by Royster-Clark Co. as a salesman in the fertilizer industry. He was a member of the FBA Telephone Co. board of directors, Alto town clerk for over 40 years, a member of the Fond du Lac County Board of Supervisors where he served as vice chairman and chairman of the finance committee and numerous other committees, a board member of the Fond du Lac County Economic Development Corp, a member of the board of directors of the National Bank of Waupun for 16 years, a member of the Alto Reformed Church, a former member of the Men's Chorus, and the Sunday school treasurer.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Buwalda, Waupun; one son, Steve Buwalda, Brandon; two daughters, Colleen Douma, and Sandy (Howard) Kooiman, both of Waupun; five grandchildren, Judah, Levi and Layla Douma, Evan and Ashley Looiman; one great-grandson, Josiah Douma; one brother, the Rev. Merlin (Carol) Buwalda, Lake City, Mich; his mother, Hazel Buwalda, Waupun; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Friends may call on Tuesday, Aug. 13, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home, Waupun.

Robert L. Barger
RIO - Robert L. Barger 66, of Rio, died on Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002, at UW-Hospital, Madison.

A memorial service with full military rites will be held on Monday, Aug. 12, at 11 a.m. at the Vangen Funeral Home, Rio. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Hillside cemetery, Poynette.

Mr. Barger was born on July 23, 1936, in Poynette, the son of Albert A. and Ellen M. (Reiser) Barger. He was married on Jan. 29, 1955, to Roberta Stiemke, in Alcoa, Tenn.

Mr. Barger attended the Jefferson No. Eight Grade School near Poynette, and later graduated from Poynette High School in 1954. He entered the U.S. Air Force and served from 1954 to 1957 as an Airman First Class. He worked at Kipp, Madison, from 1958 to 1965. He served as a U.S. Postal service carrier in Poynette from 1968 to 1972, becoming postmaster in Poynette from 1973 until his retirement in 1991. During retirement, he worked part-time at D&D IGA, Poynette. He and his wife moved to Rio in 1998. He was a member of the Poynette Fire Department for 11 years, served as assistant scout master for troop 68 in Poynette, a member of the Poynette American Legion Post 271, a member of the national organization for postal employees - NAPUS, the national and local chapter of Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA), and the Vintage Aircraft Association.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Roberta Barger, Rio; two sons, James F. (Dawn) Barger, Verona, and Albert L. (Lori) Barger, Windsor; two daughters, Brenda L. Barger Germain, Poynette, and Lois A. (Jeff) Marchant, DeForest; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Margaret Weiss.

Friends may call on Monday, Aug. 12, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the Vangen Funeral Home, Rio.

Memorials may be made to the Robert Barger family and will be used for a plaque in Robert's memory to be placed on the Memorial Wall at the EAA Aviation Museum, Oshkosh.

Marion R. Henning
JUNEAU - Marion Rose Henning, 75, of Juneau, formerly of Waupun, died on Friday, Aug. 9, 2002, at Beaver Dam Community Hospital.

The funeral will be held on Monday, Aug. 12, at 11 a.m., at Grace Ev. Lutheran Church, Waupun. The Rev. Christopher Doerr will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Mound cemetery, Waupun.

Miss Henning was born on July 7, 1927, in Waupun, the daughter of Henry and Rose (Heise) Henning.

Miss Henning was a Dodge County resident all her life. She attended school in Waupun and was formerly employed with Green Valley Enterprises, Beaver Dam. She was a member of Grace Ev. Lutheran Church, Waupun. She enjoyed doing puzzles and needlework.

Survivors include one sister, Lois (Irv) Koch, Burnett; one brother, Richard (Carol) Henning, Waupun; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Henning, Fond du Lac, and Marie Henning, Waupun; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and seven brothers, Merlin, John, Harvey, Henry, Elton, Lyle, and James Henning.

Friends may call on Monday, Aug. 12, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at Grace Ev. Lutheran Church Waupun.

The Kohls Community Funeral Home, Waupun, is serving the family.

William Vander Woude
LAKE WORTH, Fla. - William "Bill" Vander Woude, 87, died peacefully on Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2002, at his home in Lake Worth, Fla. His family will cherish his memory and know he has gone home to the Lord.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, Aug. 10, at 2 p.m., at the Second Christian Reformed Church, Randolph. The Rev. James Admiraal will officiate. Burial will be in Friesland cemetery.

Mr. Vander Woude was born on Sept. 18, 1914, in the town of Randolph, the son of Dirk and Gertrude (Schaalma) Vander Woude. He was married on Sept. 1, 1937, to Jane Kok in East Friesland.

Mr. Vander Woude was an area businessman since 1937, as owner and operator of Van's Electric and Dual Gas, Friesland. He was also a former member of the Second Christian Reformed Church, Randolph, where he served as an elder and deacon.

Survivors include four sons, Donald Vander Woude, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Sherwood (Claire) Vander Woude, Green Bay, William J. (Leann) Vander Woude, Lake Worth, Fla., and James A. (Lois) Vander Woude, Franklin, N.C. two daughters, Ramona Medema, Randolph, and Gloria Vonhof, Lake Worth, Fla.; 18 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one brother, Theodore (Gertrude) Vander Woude; three sisters, Catherine (Walter) Riel, Irene (Alvin) Van Loo, and Cornelia (Ray) Van Loo; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

His beloved wife, Jane, went home to the Lord on June 24, 1999. He was also preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and one son-in-law.

Friends may call on Saturday, Aug. 10, from noon until the time of service at the Second Christian Reformed Church, Randolph.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Randolph Christian School.

Walter A. Lunde
LAGUNA WOODS, Calif. - Walter Arne Lunde, 89, of Laguna Woods, Calif., formerly of Fox Lake, died on Friday, Aug. 2, 2002, in Laguna Hills, Calif.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, Aug. 10, at 11:30 a.m., at the Drechsler, Brown & Williams Funeral Home, Oak Park, Ill. Burial will be in Mount Emblem cemetery, Elmhurst, Ill.

Mr. Lunde was born on Sept. 8, 1912, in Chicago, Ill.

Mr. Lunde was the former owner and operator of Lunde's Wholesale Meats, Chicago. He was a captain in the U.S. Navy, retiring in 1972. He was a member of the Shriner's Medinah Temple and the Medinah Country Club. He was a resident of Fox Lake for 20 years.

Survivors include his wife, LaVerne (nee Skeppstrom) Lunde; two sons, Walter (Cissy) Lunde Jr., and Robert (Dian) Lunde; two daughters, Karen (George) Ludington, and Nancy (Philip) Hickman, 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Elsie Jacobsen; relatives and friends.

Friends may call on Saturday, Aug. 10, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the Drechsler, Brown & Williams Funeral Home, Oak Park, Ill.

Memorials may be made to the Navy Scholarship Program or to the Shriner's Hospital for Children.

Helen J. Breitenstein
Helen J. Breitenstein, 87, formerly of 228 Walnut St., Beaver Dam, died on Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2002, at Beaver Dam Community Hospital.

A private family service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 17, at 1 p.m., at the Koepsell Funeral Home, Beaver Dam. The Rev. Paul Hudson will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery, Beaver Dam.

Mrs. Breitenstein was born on Feb. 23, 1915, in Birnamwood the daughter of George and Laura Mae (Packard) Arnold. She was married on Feb. 27, 1933, to John Breitenstein in Bessemer, Mich.

Mrs. Breitenstein was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church, Beaver Dam. She and her husband lived in Antigo for awhile, and eventually moved to Beaver Dam, where they made their home and raised seven children. She was a devoted wife and mother.

Survivors include six daughters, Ruth Wolfgang Snyder, June (Howard) Wolfgang, both of Beaver Dam, Peggy-Ann (David) Fiddick, Illinois, Alice (Michael) Fosco, Nevada, Jean (Arthur) Bessel, Beaver Dam, and Gloria (Miquel) DeLeon, West Bend; six stepbrothers, Walter (Audrey) Kubiaczyk, Elcho, Eugene Kubiaczyk, Antigo, James (Kathleen) Kubiaczyk, Pleasant Prairie, Richard (Donna) Kubiaczyk, Wittenberg, Michael (Carol) Kubiaczyk, St. Germain, and Frank (Laura) Kubiaczyk, Georgia; grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather, Frank Kubiaczyk; her husband, John Breitenstein, in 1988; one son, Robert, in 1986; one stepbrother in infancy, Raymond Kubiaczyk, in 1934; one sister, Helen Curran, in 1980; two great-grandsons, Jake Wolfgang, in infancy in 1987, and Isaiah DeLeon, in 1999; two stepnieces in infancy, Susan Kubiaczyk, in 1971, and Sandra Kubiaczyk, in 1972; one brother-in-law, Richard Curran, in 1999; and one sister-in-law, Evelyn Kubiaczyk, in 1999.

Friends may call on Friday, Aug. 16, from 7 to 9 p.m., at the Koepsell Funeral Home, Beaver Dam.

Memorials may be made to Grace Presbyterian Church, Beaver Dam.

Audrey L. Wright
WAUKEGAN - Audrey L. Wright, 75, longtime resident of Waukegan, Ill., and Antioch, Ill., died on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2002, at her home.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 17, at 10 a.m., at the Christ Episcopal Church, 410 Grand Ave., Waukegan, Ill.

Mrs. Wright was born on May 17, 1927, the daughter of Gerold and Dorothy Albrecht.

Mrs. Wright was the loving mother of Linda Piktel, Kelly Williams, Charles R. Wright, John Atkins, and Pamela Schilling; the proud grandmother of Jimi, Ken, Danielle, Traci, Justin, Jeremy, Joey, and Heather; the proud great-grandmother of Jessie and Jimi Jr.; and the fond sister of Joyce (Jerry) Sheafor. Additional survivors include one nephew, Michael (Cindy) Curtis; special friends, Lois McGreal, Sally Stack, Olga Wigoda, Luisa Andrea, and Cathy Nelson.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Vitas Hospice Care, Lombard, Ill., or the Society of St. Francis Animal Shelter, Kenosha.

The Elegy Cremation and Memorial Service, Waukegan, Ill., served the family.
