Edgar Kahlow
FOND DU LAC - Edgar "Zark" Kahlow, 70, of 353 17th St., Fond du Lac, died on Friday, Aug. 9, 2002, at Hospice Home of Hope, Fond du Lac, after a courageous three-month battle with cancer.

A Mass of Christian burial was held on Tuesday, Aug. 13, at 2:30 p.m., at St. Joseph Church, Fond du Lac. The Rev. Jerome Wagner officiated. Burial was in Calvary cemetery, Fond du Lac. Military rites were conducted by the Fond du Lac Trier-Puddy American Legion Post.

Mr. Kahlow was born on Oct. 15, 1931, in Mayville, the son of Arthur and Helen (Grenas) Kahlow Manchester. He was married on Feb. 9, 1957, to Geraldine Muench at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Mayville.

Mr. Kahlow attended Mayville Grade School and Mayville High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was a member of the Trier-Puddy American Legion Post, Fond du Lac. He was an avid sportsman, engaging in hunting, fishing and bowling. Baseball "was his game." He was a heavy hitter and catcher for the Mayville Rock River League, which led him to try out with the Milwaukee Braves in 1956. He also played semi-pro baseball in Florida. He was inducted into the Rock River Baseball Hall of Fame in 1995. After marriage the couple resided in Mayville, where he was employed at Maysteel until 1967. They then moved to Fond du Lac, where he was employed at Mercury Marine for 27 years, retiring in 1993. He then drove Johnson Bus for handicapped children from 1995 to 2000. He was a member of Holy Family Parish-St. Joseph Church, Fond du Lac.

Survivors include his wife, Gerry Kahlow, Fond du Lac; two sons, Jeffrey (Sandy) Kahlow, and David (special friend Kari Muenster) Kahlow, all of Fond du Lac; one daughter, Susan (special friend David Huber) Kahlow, Fond du Lac; special "PaPa" to Kaylee and Kyra Gibson, Fond du Lac; his beloved mother, Helen Manchester, Milwaukee; loving mother-in-law, Helen Muench, Fond du Lac; one sister, Diane Lunde, Milwaukee; three brothers, Ted (Pat) Kahlow, Fox Lake, Robert (Sue) Sorgent, Colgate, and David (Terri) Sorgent, Ione, Calif.; relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Kahlow, in 1970; one brother, Jimmy, and his stepmother and stepfather.

Friends called on Tuesday, Aug. 13 from 1 p.m. until the time of service at Holy Family Parish-St. Joseph Church, Fond du Lac.

A memorial fund has been established in Edgar's name for Hospice Home of Hope and masses.

The Huss Funeral Home, St. Cloud, served the family.

James L. Schuster
APPLETON - James L. Schuster, 80, of Appleton, died on Aug. 14, 2002, at Manor Care.

The funeral was held on Saturday, Aug. 17, at the Star of Hope Chapel in Highland Memorial Park. The Rev. Leon Knitt officiated.

Mr. Schuster was born on Nov. 24, 1921, in Rolling Prairie, the son of Vincent and Anna (Backhaus) Schuster. He was married on June 15, 1948, to Gladys Pieper.

Mr. Schuster worked for the Wisconsin Telephone Co. as an electrical engineer and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers.

Survivors include two daughters, Nancy (David) Eggert, Appleton, and Patricia (Alan) Hoppe, Darboy; four grandchildren; two brothers, Lorence (Muriel) Schuster, Beaver Dam; and Raymond (Thelma) Schuster, Missouri; one sister, Carol (William) Abel, Fox Lake; relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Schuster; one son, Robert Schuster; one sister, Dorothea Hoeft, and one brother, Frederic Schuster.

Edith R. Frosch
Edith R. Frosch, 89, of Beaver Dam, died on Friday, Feb. 8, 2002, at the Beaver Dam Care Center.

There will be no funeral service. Burial of the cremains will take place in Oakwood cemetery, Beaver Dam, at a later date.

Mrs. Frosch was born on July 2, 1912, in Iowa, the daughter of William J. and Effie May (Cowell) Richardson. She was married to Coyt Stevenson. She was married on Aug. 16, 1952, to Virgil A. Frosch.

Mrs. Frosch was a sales clerk at JCPenney Co., and a cook at Beaver Dam High School and Old Hickory Country Club.

Survivors include two stepdaughters, Carol (Jerry) Gilmore, Beaver Dam, and Ann Lambrecht, Austin, Texas; one stepson, Richard (Karla) Frosch, New Mexico; one brother, William Richardson, Washington; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Coyt Stevenson; her second husband, Virgil Frosch, two daughters, Judy Dietz and Marita "Gypsy" Schwoch.

There will be no visitation.

The Koepsell Funeral Home, Beaver Dam, is serving the family.

Harvey Lasanske
WAUPUN - Harvey Lasanske, 89, formerly of Waupun, died on Sunday, Feb. 3, 2002, at Harbor Haven Nursing Home, Fond du Lac.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 6, at 2 p.m., at the Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home, Waupun. The Rev. Kenneth Spence will officiate. Private burial will be in the Markesan cemetery.

Mr. Lasanske was born on Sept. 26, 1912, in Milwaukee, the son of William and Emily (Manske) Lasanske. He was married on Sept. 29, 1934, to Mildred "Peg" Fremberg in Milwaukee.

Mr. Lasanske and his wife resided in Milwaukee for 30 years where he was employed with Milwaukee Stamping. In 1961, the couple moved to Little Green Lake and he was employed with Hopp Construction, Waupun, for several years. In 1992, they moved to Waupun. He was a member of Pella Lutheran Church, Waupun.

Survivors include one daughter, Claudette (Robert) Armon; two grandsons, the Rev. Rod (Julie) Armon, and Richard (Julie) Armon; seven great-grandchildren; relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred "Peg", in 1994; one grandson, Robbin Armon, in 1985; three brothers, and one sister.

Friends may call on Wednesday, Feb. 6, from 1 p.m. until the time of service at the Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home, Waupun.

Margaret E. Popp
MANITOWOC - Margaret E. Popp, 87, a resident of the Manitowoc Health Care Center, died on Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at the center.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, Feb. 4, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Alverno. The Rev. David Beaudry will officiate. Burial will be in St. Casimir Church cemetery, Northeim.

Mrs. Popp was born on May 20, 1914, in Manitowoc, the daughter of Matthew and Odelia (Trost) Hein. She was married on Aug. 30, 1933, to George W. Popp, at St. Andrew Catholic Church, Manitowoc.

Mrs. Popp was a member of the St. Casimir Rosary Society.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, William G. and Marilyn Popp, Beaver Dam, Robert J. and Betty Popp, Manitowoc, and Joseph H. and Mary Beth Popp, Manitowoc; one daughter and son-in-law, Jeanette Pekarske and James Schroeder, Manitowoc; 15 grandchildren, Laurie Pierce, Kathy Kokal, Tricia Pokrandt, William Pekarske, Mark Pekarske, Dave Pekarske, Monica Cisler, Wayne Popp, Lynn Daley, Randy Popp, Bob Popp, Pam Popp, Jacque Bartow, Joe Popp and Jennie Popp; 18 great-grandchildren; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Katherine and Stanley Sieracki, Mary Jane and Alfred Mecca, all of Manitowoc; two brothers and three sisters-in-law, Marshall and Joyce Hein, Fred Hein, Elaine Hein and Jenny Hein, all of Manitowoc; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George, on Dec. 13, 1991; an infant granddaughter, Sherri; ten brothers, Phillip, William, Peter, Matthew, Leonard, Nicholas, Joseph, Clarence, Walter and Anton, and a sister, Irene Gadzinski.

Friends may call on Sunday, Feb. 3, from 2 to 4 p.m., at The Pfeffer Funeral Home, 928 S. 14th St., Manitowoc, a prayer service will be held at 3:30 p.m., led by Brenda Korinek, and on Monday, Feb. 4, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Alverno.

Hannah M. Straley
GREENVILLE - Hannah Mae Straley, beautiful infant daughter of Patricia (Linke) Schmuhl and Jerry Straley Jr., Greenville, died on Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2002, at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Appleton

A private family graveside service was held on Thursday, Aug. 29, at Riverside Memorial Park cemetery, Fox Lake. The Rev. David Hussman officiated.

She will be sadly missed and mourned by her parents; siblings, Dianna, Hoshua, Jacob, Autumn, Mikayla, Dakota, Drew and Abby; grandparents, Dennis (Diann) Linke, Fox Lake, Jerry (Cynthia) Straley Sr., Fond du Lac; great-grandparents, Margaret Schears, Waupun, Martha Betry, Fond du Lac, and Vivian Straley, northern Wisconsin; godparents, Paul Linke, Juneau, Camaryn Meyer, Kenosha; aunts, April (Paul) White, South Dakota, Diana (Ted) Beard, Columbus, Kimberly Linke, Beaver Dam, Jennie (John) Moore, Jamie and Jessica Straley, all of Fond du Lac; uncles, Paul Link, Dick Linke, both of Juneau, and Jason Straley, Fond du Lac; relatives and family friends.

The Kratz-Smedema Funeral Home, Fox Lake, served the family.

Violet M. Meyer
Violet M. Meyer, 81, formerly of Horicon, died on Thursday, Aug. 29, 2002, at Hillside Manor, Beaver Dam.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 4, at 2 p.m., at the Murray Community Funeral Home, Beaver Dam. The Rev. Rae Ann Bloomquist will officiate. Cremation will take place.

Mrs. Meyer was born on Oct. 3, 1920, in Iron River, Mich., the daughter of Louis and Eva (Rousseau) Beauchamp. She was married in 1939, to Elmer Meyer in Michigan.

Mrs. Meyer was a resident of Horicon since 1984. She worked at the Red Granite Canning Factory for 20 years, and at the Chrysler Co., Hartford, for 14 years, retiring in 1983.

Survivors include four daughters, Carol (Darrell) Wiegert, Manitowoc, Shirley Smart, Wausau, Nancy (Gerald) Mankowski, Wautoma, and Susan (Charles) Griffin, Juneau; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Clara Nutter, Torrence, Calif.; two stepsisters, Kathy (Waltert) Webb, Michigan, and Margie (Allen) Blomshield, Mich.; relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elmer Meyer, in 1979; one daughter, Patricia; one son, Edwin, in 2001; six brothers, William, Bob, Roy, Eugene, Francis, and Gerald, and one stepsister, Barbara Homewood.

Friends may call on Wednesday, Sept. 4, from 1 p.m. until the time of service at the Murray Community Funeral Home, Beaver Dam.

Elizabeth A. Randels
JUNEAU - Elizabeth A. Randels, 87, formerly of 725 Green Bay Drive, Mayville, died on Thursday, Aug. 29, 2002, at Clearview Nursing Home, Juneau.

The funeral will be held on Monday, Sept. 2, at 11 a.m., at the Zum Kripplein Christi Ev. Lutheran Church, town of Herman. The Rev. John Bonow will officiate. Burial will be in the Zum Kripplein Christi cemetery, town of Herman.

Mrs. Randels was born on Dec. 11, 1914, in Alma, the daughter of the Rev. Gotthilf and Elisabeth (Bartolain) Bradtke. She was married on Aug. 12, 1944, to Dr. Charles Randels in the town of Herman.

Mrs. Randel was a 1932 graduate of Mayville High School, and a graduate of Dodge County Teachers College. She taught school for several Dodge County rural schools and for the Hustisford School District. She was a member of the Zum Kripplein Christi Ev. Lutheran Church, town of Herman. She and her husband moved to Phoenix, in 1952. She returned to Mayville in 1981.

Survivors include one sister, Charlotte Brummond, Mayville; one brother, the Rev. Traugott (Ilse) Bradtke, Marshfield; one sister-in-law, Norma Bradtke, Bell Plaine, Minn.; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Charles Randels, and one brother, the Rev. John Bradtke.

Irma M. Affeld
JUNEAU - Irma M. Affeld, 89, of Juneau, died on Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2002, at Clearview Nursing Home, Juneau.

The funeral will be held on Sunday, Sept. 1, at 3 p.m., at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church, Juneau. The Rev. Thomas Biedenbender will officiate. Burial will be in Juneau City cemetery.

Mrs. Affeld was born on March 25, 1913, in the town of Trent, the daughter of Phillip and Mary (Uebel) Hoffman. She was married on June 26, 1937, to Edgar Affeld, at First Lutheran Church, Beaver Dam.

Mrs. Affeld was a longtime member of St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church, Juneau.

Survivors include one son, Allen (Barbara) Affeld, Florida; three grandchildren, Susan (Scott) Thurston, Jeff (Megan) Affleld, both of Florida, and Thomas Affeld, Oak Creek; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Jane, Armstrong, Ind.; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edgar Affeld, in 1973; one daughter, Mary Ann Affeld; two brothers, Clarence and Elmer, and four sisters, Edna, Hilda, Luella and Hazel.

Friends may call on Sunday, Aug. 1, from 1 p.m. until the time of service at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church, Juneau.

The Berndt-Ledesma Funeral Home, Juneau, is serving the family.

Robert H. Neitzel
RANTOUL, Ill. - Robert H. Neitzel, 68, of Rantoul, Ill., died on Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2002, at the Provena Medical Center, Urbana, Ill.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, Aug. 31, at 10 a.m., at St. Malachy Catholic Church, Rantoul, Ill. The Revs. Jeffrey Laible and Stanley Malinowski will officiate. Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre cemetery, Rantoul, Ill.

Mr. Neitzel was born on June 20, 1934, in Burnett, the son of Harold and Irma (Kramer) Neitzel. He was married on Aug. 4, 1956, to Kay Kaler in Rantoul, Ill.

Mr. Neitzel served in the U.S. Air Force from 1955 to 1958. He worked for the Rantoul, Ill., post office and retired as assistant postmaster on Oct. 2, 1992. He worked as a custodian at St. Malachy School from 1962 to 1995. He was a member of St. Malachy Catholic Church, Rantoul, Ill., and the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus. He loved gardening and farming.

Survivors include four sons, Charles Neitzel, Jeffrey Neitzel, and Steven Neitzel, all of Rantoul, Ill., and James Neitzel, Scottsdale, Ariz.; two daughters, Julie Duran, Rantoul, Ill., and Jane Oldham, Urbana, Ill.; one brother, Richard Neitzel, Waupun; four sisters, Marge Miller, Brandon, Sandra Neitzel, Fox Lake, Charlotte Tabbert, Ripon, and Betty Vis, Theresa; five grandchildren; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Kay Neitzel, on June 18, 2002.

Friends may call on Friday, Aug. 30, from 4:30 to 8 p.m., with a rosary at 4:30 p.m., at the Lux Memorial Chapel, 1551 E. Grove, Rantoul, Ill.

Memorials may be made to the St. Malachy Development Fund, or St. Matthews Catholic School.

Glen Martinsen
MADISON - Glen "Chip" Martinsen, 49, retired master sergeant formerly of Beaver Dam, died on Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2002, at William S. Middleton Memorial VA Hospital, Madison.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday, Sept 3, at 5 p.m., at the Koepsell Funeral Home, Beaver Dam. The Rev. Don Bader will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery, Beaver Dam.

Mr. Martinsen was born on June 4, 1953, at the Lutheran Hospital in Beaver Dam, the son of Glen and Delores (Jones) Martinsen. He was married on Aug. 18, 1973, to Kathy Leichtle in Beaver Dam.

Mr. Martinsen was a 1971 graduate of Beaver Dam High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1973, and received his training at Fort Jackson. After that he was stationed at Fort Monmoth, N.J.; Brook Medical Center, San Antonio; Fort Hood, Texas; Augsburg, Germany; Manitowoc; Fort Campbell, Ky., and Fort McCoy, where he retired as a master sergeant after 20 years of service in 1994. Among his many awards were the meritorious service medal, the army commendation medal, the army achievement medal, the good conduct medal, the national defense medal, and the NCO professional development ribbon. He had a great love of the outdoors, woodworking and his dogs.

Survivors include his wife, Kathy Martinsen; his father, Glen B. (Dorothy) Martinsen, Beaver Dam; two sisters, Karen (Richard) Parli, Amissville, Va., and Tracy Martinsen, Fond du Lac; one brother, Tim (Sandy) Martinsen, Mayville; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Delores Martinsen; stepmother, Carmen Smith; one infant sister, Mary; two infant brothers, Marcel and Michael; his grandparents, aunts and uncles.

Friends may call on Tuesday, Sept. 3, from 3 p.m. until the time of service at the Koepsell Funeral Home, Beaver Dam.
