Wayne J. Virnoche
STOCKTON, Calif. - Wayne John Virnoche, 55, of Stockton, Calif., died on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002, at the hospital in French Camp, Calif.

There were no services held at Wayne's request. Burial was in Holy Cross cemetery, Two Rivers.

Mr. Virnoche was born on Sept. 12, 1946, in Two Rivers.

Mr. Virnoche was an entrepreneur of wholesale goods.

Survivors include four children, Tami Ayers, Jennifer Fredrickson, Todd Virnoche, all of Stockton, Calif., and Jeff Virnoche, Sacramento, Calif.; one sister, Sandra Owens, Dickeyville; seven grandchildren; relatives and friends.

Rocha's Mortuary, Lodi., Calif., served the family.

Sue E. Happel
MILWAUKEE - Sue E. Happel, 45, formerly of Beaver Dam, died on Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2002, at her home.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, Jan. 28, at 7 p.m., at the Murray Community Funeral Home, Beaver Dam. Cremation will take place.

Mrs. Happel was born on Aug. 30, 1956, in Waukesha, the daughter of John Ellis Wilcox and Joanne Pitsch Blake. She was married on May 13, 1989, to Joseph W. Happel in Green Lake.

Mrs. Happel was a 1974 graduate of Rosendale High School. She graduated in 1994 from UW-Oshkosh with a degree in microbiology and biochemistry. She was a member of Artemis and SETI.

Survivors include her husband, Joseph Happel, Milwaukee; one daughter, Michelle (Grady) Kelly, Florida; two grandchildren; her father, John E. Wilcox, Alaska; five sisters, Terry Wilcox, Columbus, Jacqueline (Dale) Schraufnagel, Ripon, Colleen Deaver, Fox Lake, Carol (Randy) Kasusbuski, and Sherri Garrett, Oshkosh; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother, and her brother, John Garrett.

There will be a memorial gathering on Monday, Jan. 28, from 5 to 7 p.m., at Murray Community Funeral Home, Beaver Dam.

Rolland L. Lee
KING - Rolland L. Lee, 72, a resident of Wisconsin Veteran's Home, King, formerly of Milwaukee and Columbus, died on Thursday, Jan. 24, 2002, at the veteran's home.

The funeral was held on Monday, Jan. 28, at 11 a.m., at the Jones-Jensen Funeral Home, Columbus. The Rev. Daniel Sims officiated. Burial was in Hillside cemetery, with full military honors.

Mr. Lee was born on June 6, 1929, in Stoughton, the son of Louis and Clara (Schroeder) Lee. He was married to Dolores Esser.

Mr. Lee was a 1948 graduate of Columbus High School. He served in the U.S. Army. He owned and operated Lee's Tap, Milwaukee, for 27 years.

Survivors include one daughter, Bonnie; three brothers, Donald (Joan) Lee, Louis (Shirley) Lee, both of Columbus, Marvin (Pat) Lee, Baraboo; two sisters, Clarice (John) Haefner, and Vivian (Wayne) Armstrong, both of Columbus; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dolores, in 1998; one sister, and one brother.

Friends called on Monday, Jan. 28, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the Jones-Jensen Funeral Home, Columbus.

Memorials may be made to Zion Ev. Lutheran Church.

Wilbert Pluim
WAUPUN - Wilbert Pluim, 84, of Waupun, died peacefully on Sunday, June 30, 2002, at his home.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday, July 3, at 11 a.m., at the Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home, Waupun. The Rev. David Meyer will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Mound cemetery, Waupun.

Mr. Pluim was born on Nov. 29, 1917, in the town of Waupun, the son of Garret and Edith (Harmsen) Pluim. He was married on Nov. 17, 1937, to Jennie Van Buren in Waupun.

Mr. Pluim farmed all his life in the Waupun area with his father and his four sons.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Jennie Pluim, Waupun; four sons, Kenneth (Ruth) Pluim, Larry (Joan) Pluim, both of Waupun, Calvin (Jeanne) Pluim, Green Lake, and Jerry (Cheryl) Pluim, Waupun; six daughters, Joyce (Bud) Guenther, Fond du Lac, Carol (Arnie) Voskuil, Sharon (Glen) Loomans, Ruth (Jim) DeVries, all of Waupun, Gloria (Wayne) Schwarze, Brillion, and Rose (Mitch) Redeker, Waupun; 17 grandchildren, Mike (Sue) Pluim, Deb (Keith) Navis, Sue (Mike) VandeSlunt, Jeff (Rhonda) Pluim, Kristin (Greg) Holz, Trudy (Leonard) Frens, Kevin (Angela) Voskuil, Shane (Tami) DeVries, Justin (Theresa) DeVries, Nate (fiancee Sara) DeVries, Stephanie Schwarze, Jennifer (Chris) Nies, Mason Pluim, Branden Pluim, Nicholas (Jenny) Redeker, Ryan Redeker, and Chelsea Redeker; one sister, Gertrude Hopp, Waupun; two brothers-in-law; three sisters-in-law; relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Scott Pluim; three brothers-in-law, and two sisters-in-law.

Mary Jane Cahill
HORICON/JUNEAU - Mary Jane Cahill passed into eternal life on Monday, July 1, 2002, surrounded by her family.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, July 5, at 2 p.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Juneau. The Rev. Michael Wild will officiate. Burial will be in Immaculate Conception cemetery, Juneau.

Mrs. Cahill was born on Oct. 9, 1920, in Clinton, Iowa, the daughter of Leon and Cantonia Hull.

Mrs. Cahill was a 1938 graduate of Beloit High School, and a 1942 graduate of Marquette University with a degree in nursing. She practiced as a registered nurse primarily in Milwaukee area hospitals before she retired. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the joy and focus of her life, and she enjoyed entertaining them at her home on Lake Sinissippi, and later her home in Wabasha, Minn., where she moved with her husband in 1996. Her family will miss her sure-sighted guidance and quiet strength. She was a model for her family to the end, fighting her final illness for one-year with dignity and without complaint.

Survivors include six children, Kathleen (Owen) Boehm, Leon (Sue) Cahill, Jerianne (Jon) Swierzewski, Brian (Cyndi) Cahill, Terry (Maura) Cahill, and Peter (Jane) Cahill; 19 grandchildren, Daisy (Arndt) Braaten, Sara (Patrick) Broaders, Ann Boehm, Brigid (Michael Rozalski) Cahill, Alyssa (Steven) Kuehn, Daniel Cahill, Michael, David and Thomas Swierzewski, Bryan (Kathryn), Melissa and Kristin Cahill, Kate, Aileen and Thomas Cahill, and Sean, Caitlin, Daniel and Ashlyn Cahill; six great-grandchildren, Finn, Kathleen, Conor, Jack, Rebecca and Emily; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerome "Jerry" Cahill, and one sister, Evelyn Swanson.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Hematology-Oncology Group at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minn., and the Northwest Hospice Home Care Group in Eau Claire, for their tremendous help and support over the past year. The kindness and professionalism of all was deeply appreciated by Mrs. Cahill and her family.

Beverly Willey
MAQUOKETA, Iowa - Beverly B. Willey, 78, of Maquoketa, Iowa, died on Thursday, June 20, 2002, at Jackson County Public Hospital, Maquoketa, Iowa.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 7, at 2 p.m., at the Randolph cemetery.

Mrs. Willey was born on June 5, 1924, in Randolph, the daughter of Carl and Pearl (Clifford) Blochwitz. She was married on Aug. 15, 1951, to Duane A. Willey in Randolph.

Mrs. Willey was a graduate of Randolph High School. She later graduated from Ripon College. She and her family moved to Maquoketa, Iowa, in the mid 1950s. She was a school teacher for 25 years, mostly in schools in Maquoketa and Baldwin, Iowa. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Maquoketa, Iowa, where she served on the executive board, was treasurer for several years and president of its women's group, WSCS. Most recently she had been a volunteer at the Jackson County Historical Society.

Survivors include one son, Mark Willey, Maquoketa, Iowa; two daughters, Dawn Leigh, Wisconsin, and Emelie Harmon, Missouri; two granddaughters; one sister, Eleanor Lachner, New York; two brothers, Rodney Blochwitz, Pardeeville, and Carlton Blochwitz, Florida; relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Duane A. Willey, and four sisters.

Clarence Zuhlke
RANDOLPH - Clarence "Sonny" Zuhlke, 77, of Randolph, died on Tuesday, July 2, 2002, at Beaver Dam Community Hospital.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, July 6, at 11 a.m., at the First Reformed Church, Randolph. The Rev. Calvin J. Vande Zande will officiate. Burial will be in the Randolph cemetery.

Mr. Zuhlke was born on July 30, 1924, in the town of Buffalo, the son of William and Mae (Sutfin) Zuhlke. He was married on Oct. 26, 1951, to Anna Zandstra in Lansing, Ill.

Mr. Zuhlke was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His quiet strength will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him. He owned and operated the Zuhlke Poultry Farm until his retirement in 1981. He was also in construction. He was a member of the First Reformed Church, Randolph, where he served as a deacon for several years. He enjoyed woodworking, softball and gardening.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Ann Zuhlke, Randolph; five sons, Wayne (Delaine) Zuhlke, Beaver Dam, Bill (Deanna) Zuhlke, Randolph, Bob Zuhlke, Seattle, Wash., Terry (Melissa) Zuhlke, Madison, and Jeff (Shana) Zuhlke, Beaver Dam; 10 grandchildren, Jennifer, John (Jackie) Zuhlkeš, Heather, Sarah, Josh, Matt, Jacob, Alyssa, Miranda, and Elijah; two great-grandchildren, Morgan and Grant Zuhlke; two brothers, Robert (Frances) Zuhlke, Arizona, and Harold (Mary) Zuhlke, Beaver Dam; four sisters, Ella Mae Christiansen, Westfield, Doris Standish, Madison, Irene (Ken) Matuseski, Beaver Dam, and Charlotte (Harryu) Boonsma, Randolph; two sisters-in-law, Shirley (Frank) Van Es, Illinois, and Arlene (Don) Bennett, Indiana; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, four sisters, his parents, two brothers-in-law, and one sister-in-law.

Frank Pirola
WAUPUN - Frank Pirola, 97, of Waupun, died on Thursday, July 4, 2002, at Waupun Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be held on Sunday, July 7, at 6 p.m., at the Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home, Waupun. The Rev. Rick Lawrence will officiate. A private burial will follow later.

Mr. Pirola was born on May 17, 1905, in Goeschen, Switzerland, the son of Alex and Genevie (Gavalete) Pirola. He was married on Dec. 6, 1930, to Louise Mentink in Watertown.

Mr. Pirola came to the United States in 1922, and was a cheese maker in Waterloo, Reeseville, Watertown, and Ixonia. From 1937 to 1970, he worked for the Carnation Co., Oconomowoc, until he retired. In 1981, he and his wife moved to Waupun.

Survivors include one daughter, Sylvia (Robert) Schramm, Waupun; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Dora Pegelow, Norma Mentink, both of Horicon, and Leona (Elmer) Strege, Watertown; two brothers-in-law, Irvin Mentink, Horicon, and Elmer Strege, Watertown; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Louise Pirola, on June 16, 2002; four brothers; one sister; one daughter, Virginia; one grandson and one great-grandson.

Friends may call on Sunday, July 7, from 4 p.m. until the time of service at the Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home, Waupun.

Bernice M. Jahnke
WATERTOWN - Bernice M. Jahnke, 80, of 1108 Clement St., Watertown, died on Monday, April 8, 2002, at her home.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, April 13, at 5 p.m., at St. John's Lutheran Church, Johnson Creek. The Rev. Keith Johnson will officiate. Entombment will be on Monday, April 15, at 9 a.m., in Glenview Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Jahnke was born on Sept. 11, 1921, in Fort Atkinson, the daughter of Paul and Olga (Naatz) Staude. She was married on Nov. 27, 1947, to Robert A. Jahnke in Kenosha.

Mrs. Jahnke worked in the dietary department at Shore Haven Lutheran Homes, Oconomowoc. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Johnson Creek. She was an avid euchre player, enjoyed going to the casinos, played bingo and was active in Kayra.

Survivors include three sons, Wayne (Tina) Jahnke, Reno, Nev., Allen (Patricia) Jahnke, Ashippun, and Terry (Diane Schlesner) Jahnke, Johnson Creek; two daughters, Joyce (Ralph) Davis, Los Gatos, Calif., and Janis (Jeremiah) Drum, Delafield; one brother, Roy (Blossom) Staude, Kenosha; four grandchildren, Jamie Jahnke, Anna Harmann, Vincent Davis, and Benjamin Davis; two great-grandchildren, Gavin and Madison Jahnke; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, on April 4, 1987; her parents, and one brother, Kenneth.

Friends may call on Saturday, April 13, from 2 p.m. until the time of service at St. John's Lutheran Church, Johnson Creek.

Ervin E. Alvin
BEAVER DAM - Ervin E. Alvin, 72, Beaver Dam, died April 11, 2002 at Columbus Community Hospital.

The funeral service will be on Monday, April 15, 2002 at 11 a.m. at the Koepsell Funeral Home in Beaver Dam. Internment will be at Oakwood cemetery in Beaver Dam. Graveside military rites will be conducted by Beaver Dam American Legion Post 146.

Alvin was born on Sept. 4, 1929, in Beaver Dam to Emil and Emma (Smith) Alvin. He was married to Pearl Sauer on Aug. 23, 1982. His first wife was Marge Soldner. He was a graduate of Beaver Dam High School and worked at Universal Foods for 30 years. He lived in Beaver Dam and Lowell his whole life and he enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening.

He is survived by his wife Pearl Sauer of Beaver Dam; his childern Guy (Patti) Alvin of Randolph; Lee (Beth) Alvin of Denver; and Debbie (Clint) Wolc of Beaver Dam; four step children; one sister Della Keske of Beaver Dam; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marge; his parents Emil and Emma Alvin; one sister, one brother and two brothers-in-law.

Friends may call on Sunday, April 14, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Koepsell Funeral Home in Beaver Dam. Visitation also will be on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at Koepsell Funeral Home in Beaver Dam.

Verdilla Compton
WAUPUN - Verdilla Compton, 99, of the Christian Home, Waupun, died on Saturday, April 6, 2002, at the home.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, May 13, at 1 p.m., at the Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home, Waupun. The Rev. Michael Bausch will officiate.

Mrs. Compton was born on June 24, 1902, in New Germany, Minn., the daughter of John and Salma (Anderson) Peterson. She was married in 1926, to John Compton in Waupaca.

Mrs. Compton was a graduate of Amery High School. She and her husband resided in Menominee, Mich., for 22 years, moving to Waupun in 1951. She was a member of the Union Congregational Church, Waupun.

Survivors include one son, Dr. John (Carol) Compton, Cedar River, Mich.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John, in 1981; three brothers, and two sisters.

Della M. Kersten
JUNEAU - Della M. Kersten, 90, a resident of Clearview Nursing Home, Juneau, formerly of Reeseville Acres, died on Sunday, April 21, 2002, at the nursing home.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday, April 23, at 1 p.m., at the Pentecostal House of Prayer, Horicon. Pastor Jeff Steiner will officiate. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery, Dalton.

Mrs. Kersten was born on Oct. 12, 1911, in Columbia County, the daughter of August and Martha (McIlleen) Radant. She was married on June 4, 1938, to Edward Kersten.

Mrs. Kersten had been employed as a housekeeper, a cook at various restaurants, and at the Garment Factory, Columbus. She was a member of the Pentecostal House of Prayer, Horicon, and a past member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Beaver Dam.

Survivors include two sons, Mervin Kersten, and Donald (Sherian) Kersten, both of Beaver Dam; one brother, Ervin Radant, Lowell, one sister-in-law, Lucille Radant, Lake Tomahawk; four grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward; one son, Edwin, and four brothers, Arthur, Henry, Dana, and Walter.

Friends may call on Tuesday, April 23, from noon until the time of service at the Pentecostal House of Prayer, Horicon.

Lois B. Agnew
FALL RIVER - Lois Bessie Agnew, 76, of Fall River, died on Friday, April 26, 2002, at Columbus Community Hospital.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, April 30, at 11 a.m., at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Doylestown. The Rev. Donald Wiecki will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Mrs. Agnew was born on Feb. 6, 1926, in Ottawa, Ill., the daughter of Arthur and Bessie (Hefron) Messner. She was married on Oct. 30, 1948, to Clifford Agnew.

Mrs. Agnew and her husband farmed in the town of Fountain Prairie and raised seven children. She attended the University of Wisconsin.

Survivors include her husband of 53 and one-half years, Clifford Agnew, Fall River; seven children, Joseph Agnew, Thomas (Margaret) Agnew, Stephen (Donna) Agnew, Chris (Sandy) Agnew, all of Fall River, Patricia (Tim) Howe, Burlington, Alice (Christer) Bohman, Glen Ellyn, Ill., and Gail (Bill) Yanisch, Naperville, Ill.; one sister, Joyce (Harvey) Hendricks, Juneau; two sisters-in-law; 23 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one infant son, and one infant granddaughter, Hannah.

Milton A. Schessow
HORICON - Milton A. Schessow, 84, of Horicon, died on Tuesday, July 30, 2002, at his home.

The funeral will be held on Friday, Aug. 2, at 10 a.m., at Zion Lutheran Church, Horicon. The Rev. Christina Scheuller will officiate. Burial will be in Oakhill cemetery, Horicon.

Mr. Schessow was born on Dec. 21, 1917, in Horicon, the son of Arthur and Esther (Otto) Schessow. He was married on Jan. 28, 1939, to Lillian Fritz, in Milwaukee. He was married on June 19, 1965, to Mary Jackson at Zion Lutheran Church, Beaver Dam.

Mr. Schessow was a 1935 graduate of Horicon High School. He was employed at John Deere Horicon Works for over 40 years. He was a member of the Horicon Fire Department for over 40 years. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, where he sang in the choir for many years and served on the church council. He loved to hunt and fish and was an avid bowler. He enjoyed gardening.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Schessow, Horicon; five children, Dennis (Eileen) Schessow, Gassville, Ark., Sheila (Douglas) Tesch, Beaver Dam, Lili (Wayne) Zamzow, Beaver Dam, Milton Jr. "Butch" (Judy) Schessow, Horicon, and Darlene (Lester) Pegelow, Horicon; one step-daughter, Elaine "Stephanie" Zousel, Wichita, Kan.; 16 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Arthur Schessow Jr., Benecia, Calif.; three sisters, Shirley (Edwin) Downer, Townsend, Vivian Lloyd, Taylorsville, Calif., and Goldie Davidson, Centralia, Wash.; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Lillian, in 1955; one daughter, Janet Polzin in March 2002; one step-daughter, Annetta Coyer; one step-grandson, Richard Zousel in 2001; one brother, Ralph, and two sisters, Maxine Oestreich and Wonda Manera.

Friends may call on Thursday, Aug. 1, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Murray Community Funeral Home, Horicon, and on Friday, Aug. 2, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at Zion Lutheran Church, Horicon.

Gene C. Norenberg
Gene "Geno" C. Norenberg, 58, of N8263 McKinley Beach Road, Beaver Dam, died on Tuesday, July 30, 2002, at his home,

The funeral will be held on Saturday, Aug. 3, at 11 a.m., at the Koepsell Funeral Home, Beaver Dam. The Rev. Mark Jensen will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Memory Gardens, town of Trenton.

Mr. Norenberg was born on Nov. 15, 1943, in Beaver Dam, the son of Ervin and Verna (Sauer) Norenberg. His first wife was Charlotte Cigelske and his second wife was Lori Sadowski.

Mr. Norenberg was a 1962 graduate of Beaver Dam High School. He was the owner of Park Avenue Shell, Beaver Dam, for many years. He was the former owner of North Plaza Shell. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was an avid racer and race fan. He was extremely proud of the presidential citation he received for refueling SR-71's while serving in the United States Air Force.

Survivors include his wife, Lori, Beaver Dam; one son, Dale Norenberg, Beaver Dam; one sister, Darlene (Elmer "Bud") Kirchoff, Beaver Dam; his first wife, Charlotte Cigelske, Beaver Dam; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Donna M. Seavert
WATERTOWN - Donna M. Seavert, 65, of 117 Homestead Lane, Watertown, died on Tuesday, July 30, 2002, at Watertown Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be held on Friday, Aug. 2, at 11 a.m., at St. John's Lutheran Church, Watertown. The Rev. Rodney Warnecke will officiate. Burial will be in Glenview Memorial Gardens, Ixonia.

Mrs. Seavert was born on July 8, 1937, in Watertown, the daughter of Harold "Pat" and Gladys (Hoeft) Scheele. She was married on Oct. 15, 1955, to Frederic Seavert at St. John's Lutheran Church, Watertown.

Mrs. Seavert attended St. John's Lutheran Grade School and was a 1954 graduate of Watertown Senior High School. She and her husband owned and operated Fritz and Donna's Tavern in Watertown for over 20 years. She had also been employed at Midland LP Gas Co., Watertown, for 22 years, and at Bethesda Lutheran Home and the former Northwestern College in Watertown. She was a lifetime member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Watertown. She was a member of the Jefferson County Tavern League and the Watertown Safety Council, serving as their secretary. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was an avid bowler and enjoyed reading, puzzles and loved to cook and bake.

Survivors include her mother, Gladys Scheele, Watertown; four daughters, Debra (Jon) Braatz, Watertown, Linda (Randy) Kofler, St. Paul, Minn., Kristi (Kevin) Zubke, and Kari (Todd) Buske, both of Watertown; one brother, Roger Scheele, Watertown; one sister, Barbara (Harold) Hardin, Broken Arrow, Okla.; eight grandchildren, Christopher (Jennifer) Braatz, Katie Braatz, Tyson and Jessi Kofler, Hayley and Payton Zubke, and Hayden and Turner Buske; nieces, nephews, relatives, friends.

She was preceded in death by her father; her husband, Frederic, on Oct. 16, 1990; and two brothers, Dennis and David Scheele.

Friends may call on Thursday, Aug. 1, from 4 to 8 p.m., at the Hafemeister Funeral Home, Watertown, and on Friday, Aug. 2, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at St. John's Lutheran Church, Watertown.

Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
