David O. McDowell
WAUPUN - David O. McDowell, 71, of Waupun, died on Monday evening, March 31, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center, Oshkosh.

The funeral will be held on Thursday, April 3, at 10 a.m., at the Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home, Waupun. Burial will follow at the Forest Mound cemetery, Waupun.

David was born on Dec. 22, 1930, in Waupun, the son of Maurice and Thelma (Rendall) McDowell. He was married to Phyllis Wedde on Nov. 13, 1957, in Waupun.

David served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. The couple lived in Waupun all their married life. He was employed by the State of Wisconsin in its prisons systems in Waupun, where he was a guard and manager of numerous prison farms. He retired in 1986. He later worked part-time for the city of Waupun at the "dump."

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis, Waupun; one nephew, Greg (Gwen) McDowell, Waupun; one niece, Kim McDowell, Waupun; one sister, Susan (Ron) Shearer, Denver, Colo.; and special friends, Diane and Mark Schultz, Beaver Dam.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Friends may call on Thursday, April 3, from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home, Waupun.

Gerald R. Boden
Gerald R. "Jerry" Boden, 52, died on Sunday, March 30, 2003, at home of cancer.

A private memorial service was held on Wednesday, April 2.

Jerry was born on Aug. 25, 1950, in Hustisford, the son of Janice and Robert Boden.

Jerry attended school in Watertown, graduating from Watertown High School in 1968. In 1973, He started a vacuum cleaner/sewing machine business, expanding into A-1 Tri-County Vacuum and Sewing Center, A-1 Tri- Distributing Co., and A-1 Paint and Decorating Center, all located in Beaver Dam.

Jerry believed in Jesus Christ to be his Lord and Savior since 1995. He always felt he had a special connection with God, and seriously studied the Bible and God's teachings the past seven years. "Absent from the body, present with the Lord." II Corinthians 5:8.

Jerry enjoyed fishing, especially with his grandson, Cody, working out, bowling and billiards, biking, and walking his dog, Maggie, and had come to appreciate the beauty of nature that God has provided for us.

He is survived by his wife of 12 years, Kristi; four children, Julie Ganster and Holly (John) Cramer, both of Watertown, Kevin (Dani) Grunewald, Beaver Dam, and Lisa (Scott) Koellen, Johnson Creek; eight grandchildren, Cody Ganster, Benjamin and Colby Cramer, Kevin Jr. and Josh Grunewald, and Amy, Timmy and Tyler Koellen; his parents, Janice and Donald Wetzel, Watertown; one brother, Wayne Wetzel, and one sister, Joyce Boden.

Carl L. Bandle

THERESA - Carl L. Bandle, 81, of 321 S. Milwaukee St., Theresa, died on Tuesday, April 1, 2003, at St. Agnes Hospital, Fond du Lac.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, April 5, at 10 a.m., at St. Theresa Catholic Church, Theresa. The Rev. Kevin Kowalske will officiate. Burial will be in St. Theresa Memorial Gardens, Theresa. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Miller Justman Guelig American Legion Post 270.

Carl was born on Sept. 1, 1921, in the town of Barton, the son of Charles and Emma (Preber) Bandle. He was married to Elizabeth A. Steger on Feb. 18, 1950, in Theresa.

Carl was employed as a machinist at Kearney and Trecker of Milwaukee. He was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church, Theresa. He was a past member and past commander of Miller Justman Guelig American Legion Post 270. He was a veteran of World War II. He enjoyed fishing often with his wife.

Survivors include three sons, Carl J. "Bear" (Nancy) Bandle, Theresa, Mark (Jill) Bandle, North Fond du Lac, and Gary Bandle, Theresa; one sister, Ruth Survis, town of Barton; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife in 2002; five brothers and one sister.

Friends may call on Friday, April 4, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Koepsell Funeral Home, Mayville, and on Saturday, April 5, from 9 to 10 a.m., at St. Theresa Catholic Church, Theresa.

Ardell L. Miller
FOND DU LAC - Ardell L. Miller, 73, of Fond du Lac and formerly of Waupun, died on Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at Hospice Home of Hope, Fond du Lac.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, April 5, at 11 a.m., at the Kohls Community Funeral Home, Waupun. The Rev. Kathryn Ulrich will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Memory Gardens, town of Trenton, Dodge County.

Ardell was born on Aug. 18, 1929, in Waupun, the daughter of Walter and Norma (Engler) Peters. She was married to Walter Krueger on Feb. 23, 1952, in Waupun, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 17, 1961, she then married Wilton Miller on Feb. 29, 1968, in Beaver Dam, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 15, 1984.

Ardell was a 1947 Waupun High School graduate. She was formerly employed with Weyenberg Shoe Factory of Waupun and Beaver Dam for several years. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Waupun. She was an avid Green Bay Packer Fan. She loved to fish on Beaver Dam Lake for bullheads and also enjoyed fishing on Lake Poygan and Winneconne. She loved to bowl. She enjoyed going to Cadott, Wis., to the Country Music Festival.

Survivors include her brother and sisters, Wallace (Shirley) Peters, Lois Pautsch, and Helen Krueger, all of Waupun, and Lawrence Peters, Fond du Lac; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by two husbands and her parents.

Friends may call on Saturday, April 5, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Kohls Community Funeral Home, Waupun.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Home of Hope, Fond du Lac.

Virginia Deakin
CAMBRIA - Virginia Deakin, 63, of Cambria, died Thursday, April 3, 2003 at the Divine Savior Hospital in Portage surrounded by her family.

The funeral will be held on Monday, April 7, at 11 a.m. from the Rosendale Presbyterian Church, town of Scott. The Rev. Merle Bartels will officiate. Burial will follow in the Rosendale cemetery.

Virginia was born on Feb. 23, 1940, in the town of Buffalo, Marquette County, the daughter of Martin Raymond and Evelynn Mae (McDuffee) Schave. She was a 1958 graduate of Cambria High Schoool and was united in marriage to George W. Deakin on Oct. 20, 1962, at the First Presbyterian Church in Cambria.

Virginia was employed with Divine Savior Hospital as an LPN for many years. Prior to her retirement in the fall of 2001, she worked as a CNA at the Remmington and Harmony Home, both in Pardeeville. In her free time, Virginia cherished the moments she spent with her grandchildren, enjoyed rubber stamping and making crafts to share with residents at area nursing homes. For the last few years she dedicated her time and strength in the home care of her husband, which she did until the day of her death. Virginia was a member of Rosendale Presbyterian Church and its Ladies Aid and enjoyed attending an area Alzheimer's support group.

This caring and giving lady will be sadly missed and mourned by her husband, George; her children, Susan (Joseph) Basel, Arlington, Nancy (Tim) Raab, Oshkosh, Jeff (Carla) Deakin, Dalton, Gerry (Ruth) Deakin, Randolph, and Marcia Deakin, Poynette; seven grandchildren, Rebecca, Rachel and Andrew Basel, Morgan, Paige, Brooke and Bailey Deakin; her parents, Martin (Evelynn) Schave, Cambria; three sisters, Lois (Don) Froehlich, Friesland, Donna (Herbert) Schraepfer, Hollandale, and Laurie (Ray) Hamilton, Mississippi; nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends.

Virginia was preceded in death by one brother, Lyle Schave on Jan. 15, 1999.

Friends may call at the Kratz-Smedema Funeral Home, Cambria, on Sunday, April 6, from 4 to 7 p.m. and at the Rosendale Presbyterian Church on Monday, April 7, from 10 a.m. until the time of services.

Doris E. Seboe
MARKESAN - Doris E. Seboe, 74, of Markesasn and formerly of Horicon, died on Saturday, April 5, 2003, at Markesan Resident Home.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday, April 9, at 10 a.m., at St. Stephen Ev. Lutheran Church, Horicon. The Rev. Dennis Sundell will officiate. Burial will be in Oakhill cemetery.

Doris was born on April 21, 1928 in Colby, the daughter of Carl and Verna (Frome) Elstrom. She was married to J. Dallas Seboe on Oct. 12, 1946, in Colby.

Doris lived in Horicon for many years. She worked at the Horicon State Bank for over 20 years as the head bookkeeper. She was a faithful member of St. Stephen Lutheran Church. She was a great wife, mother, and grandmother, and she loved to cook, bake and fish. After retirement, she and her husband loved to travel in their RV and see the country, and fish.

Survivors include six children, Dallas Seboe, Milwaukee, Diana (Richard) Tonn, Madison, Darcy (Ron) Triemstra, Green Lake, Delvon (Chris) Seboe, Leavenworth, Wash., Donavon Seboe, Horicon, and DeeAnne (Ron) Wienke, Markesan; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Arland Elstrom, Keithberg, Ill.; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on Oct. 6, 1997; one son, Dean Seboe, on Jan. 16, 1966; sisters and brothers.

Friends may call on Tuesday, April 8, from 5 to 7 p.m., at Murray Community Funeral Home, Horicon, and on Wednesday, April 9, from 9 a.m. until the time of service at St. Stephen Ev. Lutheran Church, Horicon.

Memorials may be made to St. Stephen Lutheran School, Horicon.

Ann M. Andlar
Ann Marie Andlar, 88, of Beaver Dam, died on Monday, April 7, 2003, at her home.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, April 10, at 11 a.m., at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Beaver Dam. The Rev. William Key will officiate. Burial will be in St. Michael's cemetery, town of Beaver Dam.

Ann was born on Oct. 12, 1914, in Beaver Dam, the daughter of Michael and Mary (Neuman) Poletzky. She was married to Clifford Ralph Steady on Jan. 21, 1938. She was married to William A. Jones on April 11, 1970. She was married to Stephan Andlar on July 30, 1983 in Beaver Dam.

Ann lived in Beaver Dam all of her life. She worked as a waitress at the Rogers Hotel and as a cook at the K.C. Hall for many years. The harmonica was her trademark and she enjoyed playing it at the nursing homes and hospitals. She also entertained the children often at the Rainbow Connection with her harmonica. She sold poppies for many years for the VFW Disabled Veterans. She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Beaver Dam.

Survivors include her husband, Stephan Andlar, Beaver Dam; one sister, Margaret Bartell, Beaver Dam; one adopted daughter, Gloria (Jim) Werwinski, Beaver Dam; many grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Clifford R. Steady, in 1968; her second husband, William Jones, and one brother, Florian Poletzky.

Friends may call on Thursday, April 10, from 10 a.m. until the time of service, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Beaver Dam.

Merwin A. Zieman
RANDOLPH - Merv "Zug" Zieman of Randolph, and formerly of Cambria, went to his eternal home on Monday, April 7, 2003, at the Continental Manor, Randolph.

The funeral service will be held on Friday, April 11, at 11:00 a.m. at Friedens Ev. Lutheran Church, Randolph. The Rev. Walter Goers Jr. will officiate. Internment will be in the Randolph cemetery.

Merv was born March 9, 1912 in Randolph, the son of Albert and Margaret (Wesner) Zieman.

Merv was a very special brother, uncle and great-uncle. He loved being with family. He taught his nephews how to drive at a very early age, and loved to babysit his great nieces and nephews. Merv was a life long member of Friedens Ev. Eutheran Church, Randolph. A Randolph High School graduate of 1930, he served his country with the U.S. Army in England and Norway during World War II. He was the recipient of the Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon, European-African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, Three Overseas Bars and one service stripe. Following his military service he return home and continued baking for Feil's, Luteyn's, and Meitzel's bakeries. He then baked at the University of Wisconsin-Madison bakery. He later joined the landscaping department of the university, from which he retired after 13 years of service. His favorite hobby was solving crossword puzzles.

He is survived by a brother, Kenneth (Sadie) Zieman, Randolph; two sisters, Margaret Schnur, Waupun; and Dorothy Waterworth, Milwaukee; a sister-in-law, Margaret Zieman, Randolph; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Harold, Clayton and Orlyn Zieman; one sister, Norma Vorlop, and his parents.

Friends may call on Friday, April 11, at Friedens Ev. Lutheran Church, Randolph, from 10 am. until the time of service.

Merv's family would like to extend a special thank you to the compassionate and caring staff of Continental Manor for all they did for Merv during his stay with them at the Manor.

Frances E. Ferge
MARKESAN - Frances E. Ferge, 92, of Markesan, died on Tuesday, April 8, 2003, at the Waupun Memorial Hospital, Waupun, after a battle with diabetes.

The funeral will be held on Thursday, April 10, at 11 a.m., at the Wachholz Family Funeral Home, Markesan. The Rev. Gary Zacharias will officiate. Burial will be in Markesan cemetery.

Frances was born on Dec. 18, 1910, in the town of Manchester, the daughter of Frank and Martha (Ziegenhagen) Kohn. She was married to Louis Ferge on March 12, 1933.

Frances and Louis farmed their whole lives. She loved to garden. In her later years she loved to feed and watch the birds, and doing puzzles.

Survivors include one daughter, Darlene Ferge, Markesan; one sister, Ruth Berghammer, Markesan; one sister-in-law, Laura Kaschub, Randolph; nieces, nephew and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Louis; one sister, Mabel Gransee, and two brothers, Franklin Kohn and John as an infant.

Friends may call on Wednesday, April 9, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Wachholz Family Funeral Home, Markesan, and on Thursday, April 10, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. A memorial has been established.

Francis C. Hankes
Francis C. Hankes, 77, of Beaver Dam, died on Tuesday, April 8, 2003, at the Beaver Dam Community Hospital.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, April 11, at 11 a.m., at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Beaver Dam. The Rev. William Key will officiate. Burial will be in St. Peter's cemetery, town of Beaver Dam.

Francis was born on Oct. 19, 1925, in Fort Atkinson, the son of John G. and Catherine C. (Lies) Hankes. He was married to Henrietta Welker on Aug. 25, 1956, at St. Francis Xavier, Brighton.

Francis worked at Monarch Range, Home Dairy and as the head maintenance man at St. Peter's Catholic Church and at the American National Bank. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, Beaver Dam, and the Secular Franciscan Order for 25 years and was currently serving as the Minister. He was a Third Degree member of the Pope John XXIII Council 1837 Knights of Columbus in Beaver Dam and a past member of the Holy Name Society. He was a member and past president of the St. Peter's Band Guild and was a member of the Beaver Dam Radio Flyers. He enjoyed helping others and was always willing to lend a hand. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren, whom he cherished. He also enjoyed deer hunting and loved bowling, painting and the music of the big-bands.

Survivors include his wife, Henrietta Hankes, Beaver Dam; four children, Stephan (Mary) Hankes, Platteville, Charles (Nancy Severy-Hankes) Hankes, Beaver Dam, Gregory (Mary) Hankes, Slinger, and Cheryl (Joseph) Condon, Horicon; nine grandchildren, Timothy, Kevin, Kyle, Kayla, Jacob, Mary, Annamarie, William and Margaret; two brothers, Joseph (Audrey) Hankes, Beaver Dam, and John (Dorothy) Hankes, Beaver Dam; two sisters, Clara Schweiger, Beaver Dam, and Mary (John) Pakiz, Aurora, Colo.; nieces, nephew, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Lawrence Lee Hankes in 1958, and four brothers, Alfred "Louie", Ralph, Clem and Edward.

Friends may call on Thursday, April 10, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Murray Community Funeral Home, Beaver Dam, and on Friday, April 11, from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass at the St. Peter's Catholic Church, Beaver Dam.

Memorials may be made for Mass intentions, Secular Franciscan Order or the UCPS Band Guild.
