Fritz Berger
LOWELL - Fritz Berger, 95, formerly of Lowell, died on Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2003, at Hillside Manor, Beaver Dam.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, Jan. 4, at 11 a.m., at Salem Lutheran Church, Lowell. The Rev. Paul Vander Galien will officiate. Burial will be in Lowell cemetery, village of Lowell.

Mr. Berger was born on April 13, 1907, in Georgenthal, East Prussia, the son of Friedrich and Mathilde (Assmann) Berger. He was married to Else Neubert on Sept. 30, 1938, in Silberbach, East Prussia.

Mr. Berger owned a farm in Germany before the war where he taught farming to students who served an apprenticeship on his farm. He then immigrated to the United States on Feb. 2, 1955. He bought a farm in Lowell in the spring of 1960 and lived on the farm until 1997. He had a great love for horses, farming and working for himself. He loved music, dancing, sheepshead, skaat and singing. He sang in the community choir in Germany. He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church. Thanks to the neighbors in Lowell who helped on the farm for many years.

Survivors include four children, Christa (George) Sokolenko, Watertown, Fred (Rosemary) Berger, Beaver Dam, Ursula (Bruce Pamperin) Berger, Menomonee, and Hans (Kathy) Berger, Beaver Dam; nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; two nieces in the United States and nieces and nephews in Germany.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Else, on March 29, 1985; two children, Siegfried and Ingrid, and one sister, Erna Templin.

Friends may call on Saturday, Jan. 4, from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at Salem Lutheran Church, Lowell.

The Murray Community Funeral Home, Reeseville, is serving the family.

C. William Dohmann
MOHAVE VALLEY, Ariz. - C. William Dohmann, 81, of Mohave Valley, Ariz., died on Thursday, Dec. 26, 2002, in Needles, Calif.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, Jan. 4, at 11 a.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church, Reeseville. The Rev. L. Holtz will officiate. Burial will be in the Lowell cemetery, Lowell. Graveside military rites will be provided by Lowell VFW Post 9392.

Mr. Dohmann was an 11 year resident of Mohave Valley, Ariz. He was a retired teacher and professor. He was a retired professor of Bullhead City Community College, Bullhead, Ariz. He served his country in the U.S. Army for three years. He was an elder at St. John's Lutheran Church, Bullhead, City Ariz.

Survivors include his wife, Alice Dohmann, Mohave Valley, Ariz.; one son, Paul Dohmann, Anaheim, Calif.; one brother, Donald Dohmann, Beaver Dam; one daughter-in-law, Maureen Dohmann, Anaheim, Calif.; one grandson, Michael Dohmann, Anaheim, Calif.; one granddaughter, Kelly Pena, Anaheim, Calif.; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The Koepsell Funeral Home, Beaver Dam, is serving the family.

Edward C. Walker
HARTFORD - Edward C. Walker, 56, of Hartford, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002, at St. Luke's Hospital, Milwaukee.

A memorial service was held on Wednesday, Dec. 18, at 6:30 p.m., at the First United Methodist Church, Hartford. The Rev. Arv Arveson officiated. Family greeted relatives and friends at the church only from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m., with a reception following the service.

Mr. Walker was born on Sept. 19, 1946, in Morris, Ill., the son of Edward and Louise (Black) Walker. He was married to Diane Pritza on July 2, 1971, at the Disciples of Christ church, Blue Island, Ill.

Mr. Walker graduated from Morris Community High School in 1964. He served his country in the U.S. Navy, spending time in Vietnam. He returned to school following the service, graduating from Western Illinois University with his bachelor of science degree. He received his masters degree from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He had many interests he was involved in. He taught at the Hartford Union High School for 28 years as the agricultural instructor. He was the FFA advisor and an Honorary Chapter Farmer. He was also a newspaper columnist for the Hartford Times-Press for over 19 years, and became a syndicated writer for a number of papers. He was an excellent public speaker, speaking throughout the Midwest.

He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church. He sang in choirs, taught Sunday school, was council president and helped anywhere he could.

He was actively involved in the Hartford-Nicaragua Partners organization, serving on the board. The time he treasured most was the time spent with his family: especially the many camping, biking, canoeing and cross-country skiing trips.

Survivors include his wife, Diane; two daughters, Angela and Ericka; his mother, Louise Walker, Newark, Del.; one sister, Judy (Charles) Cox, Newark, Del.; other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his father Edward R. Walker.

Memorials to the family to establish an agricultural scholarship fund in Ed's name are appreciated.

The Shimon Funeral Home, Hartford, assisted the family.

Ray O. McBride
Ray O. McBride, 53, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2002, at the Beaver Dam Community Hospital.

There will be no funeral service, cremation has taken place.

Ray was born on Oct. 22, 1949, in Kennett, Mo., the son of Jack and Lucy (Gibbins) McBride.

Ray will be sadly missed and mourned by his children, Ed McBride, Sac City, Iowa, Tammy Johnson, Slater, Iowa, Glen McBride, Cardwell, Mo., Amanda McBride and Carrie Rehtze, both of Stevens Point, Theresa McBride, Madison, Ray McBride Jr., Horicon, and Jack McBride, Cambria; one sister, Carl Dean Davidson, Cardwell, Mo.; eight beautiful and precious grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Connie Renae McBride and Jackie Osborne.

The Kratz-Smedema Funeral Home, Cambria, served the family.

Douglas E. Schulz
JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. - Douglas Erich Schulz, 43, died tragically, on Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2003, on Johns Island, S.C.

Douglas was born on Aug. 28, 1959, in Beaver Dam, Dodge County, the son of Audrey (Matuszeski) and Erich William Schulz. In 1984, he was married to Julie Steffen, with whom he had a daughter; they later divorced.

Douglas attended Beaver Dam, Oakfield and Montello schools. He also formerly lived in Stevens Point. He was in the construction/carpentry business for many years. Survivors include one daughter, Robin Schulz, Wissconsin Rapids; his father, Erich William Schulz, Fox Lake; five sisters, Barb Schulz, Mauston, Rosemary (Michael) Swenson, Rochester, Minn., Wanda (Dave) Kasubaski, Ripon, Sandy Schulz, Beaver Dam, and Carla (Tim) Parson, Beaver Dam; two brothers, Steven Draeger, Markesan, and Ryan (Trish) Rost, Draeger, Fox Lake; two stepbrothers, Richard (Cathy) Draeger, Fond du Lac, and Douglas (Karen) Draeger, Hudsonville, Mich.; one step sister-in-law, Linda (Dennis) Marshall, Waupun; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Audrey Helen Draeger in June 2002; his stepfather, Carl Draeger; his grandparents, Fred and Mary Anna Matuszeski, and William and Elsbeth Schulz; fiancee, Debbie Petersen; and one stepbrother, Dennis Draeger.

Doug will be sadly missed by his daughter, Robin; his family; relatives and his many friends.

The Cremation Center of South Carolina aided the family at this time.

Future memorial service arrangements are being made.

Virginia M. Hammer
Virginia M. Hammer, 81, of 628 S. Center St., Beaver Dam, died on Friday, Jan. 3, 2003, at Hillside Manor.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 7, at 10 a.m., at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Beaver Dam. The Rev. Emmanuel Udo will officiate. Entombment will be at Highland Memory Gardens, town of Trenton.

Mrs. Hammer was born on Dec. 16, 1921, in Beaver Dam, the daughter of Leonard and Clara (Schoenberger) Bushkie. She was married to Ervin Hammer on Oct. 12, 1940, in Beaver Dam.

Mrs. Hammer was employed at the Weyenberg Shoe Factory, then at Montgomery Ward, and then as a waitress at Voelker's Steak House for 10 years. After her retirement, she and her husband traveled, especially to Florida for the winters.

Survivors include her husband, Ervin Hammer, Beaver Dam; one son, Terry (Kathy) Hammer, West Allis; two sisters, Leona Neuman, Beaver Dam, and Elizabeth (Lester) Giese, Beaver Dam; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Clarence Bushkie, and two sisters, Dorothy Padlock and Barbara DeVries.

Friends may call on Tuesday, Jan. 7, from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass, at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Beaver Dam.

The Koepsell Funeral Home, Beaver Dam, is serving the family.

Brenda K. Neuendorf
ROWLETT, Texas - Brenda K. Neuendorf, 46, formerly of Beaver Dam, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2002, following a long battle with bi-polar disease.

Cremation took place at the Blend Wolfe Funeral Home, Dallas, Texas.

Brenda was born on Dec. 28, 1956, in Biloxi, Miss., the daughter of Ronald and June (Yerges) Neuendorf.

After graduating from Beaver Dam High School in 1975. She was employed at UW Radiology in Madison until relocating to Rowlett, Texas, in 1988. She had been employed at Insight Imaging Center, Dallas, Texas.

Brenda was a breast cancer survivor and was an advocate and participant of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and Race for the Cure.

She is survived by her mother, June, of 2413 Cortland Cr., Rowlett, TX 75088; one brother, Scott (Marylee), Wylie, Texas; her father, Ron, 1221 N. 8th Ave., West Bend; long time friends, Grace Jefferson, Chicago, Ill., and Christine Rehdantz, Portage; aunts, uncles and cousins.

Brenda was preceded in death by her grandparents, Edwin and Hattie Yerges, of Reeseville, and William and Selma Neuendorf of Juneau, and one uncle, Bill Leistico of Beaver Dam.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in Wisconsin.

Memorials may be given to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, 5005 LBJ Freeway, Dallas, TX 75244.

Edna I. Grulke
MAYVILLE - Edna I. Grulke, 94, formerly of Horicon, died on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003, at the Mayville Nursing and Rehabiliation Center.

The funeral will be held on Thursday, Jan. 9, at 11:30 a.m., at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church, Horicon. The Rev. Mark Hasty will officiate. Burial will be in Hustisford cemetery.

Edna was born on July 23, 1908, in Lebanon, the daughter of Theodore and Ida (Christian) Christian. She was married to Hugo Grulke on Nov. 13, 1926, in Lebanon.

Edna farmed with her husband in the Lebanon and Hustisford areas until the death of her husband. She later worked at Clearview Nursing Home for 11 years. She spent the past several years living at the Hustisford Senior Home. Edna was a member of Zion Ev. Lutheran Church, Horicon.

Survivors include nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugo Grulke in 1954; three brothers, Herbert, Edgar and Reinhard Christian, and two sisters, Selma Krueger and Erna Jones.

Friends may call on Thursday, Jan. 9, from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the Zion Ev. Lutheran Church, Horicon.

Memorials may be made to Zion Ev. Lutheran Church, Horicon.

Merlin J. Kremer
WAUPUN - Merlin J. Kremer, 70, of Waupun, died on Monday, Jan. 6, 2003, at Waupun Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be held on Thursday, Jan. 9, at 2 p.m., at the Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home, Waupun. The Rev. Michael Bausch will officiate. Burial will follow at the Forest Mound cemetery, Waupun, where the American Legion Post 210 of Waupun will provide military graveside services.

Merlin was born on Feb. 5, 1932, in Coggin, Iowa, the son of the late Peter and Marcella (Bergfield) Kremer. He was married to Mildred Cornwell in 1957.

Merlin was in the U.S. Army from 1952-1954 where he served in the Korean War Conflict. He worked for Walnut Grove Feed Co. in Iowa. Later he transferred to Markesan, where he continued to work for Walnut Grove and retired in 1995 after 35 years of service.

While in Markesan, he met and married Patricia (Clough) Gustavus on April 24, 1994. The couple lived in Omro for 11 years prior to moving to Waupun in 1999, where they have resided since.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia, Waupun; five sons, Mark (Lisa) Kremer, Rosendale, Michael (Deb) Kremer, Oshkosh, Matt (Sally) Kremer, Hubert, N.C., Alan Kremer, Waupun, and Andrew Kremer, Waupun; eight daughters, Marcy Kremer (friend Don Gerlach), Fond du Lac, Angela Kremer, Waupun, Pamela (Dave) Shurpit, Waupun, Jennifer (Wayne) Oppermann, Waupun, Jeanette Gustavus (friend Ann Boyle), Ripon, Nancy Gustavus, Winneconne, Sandra (Lane) Beulen, South Byron, and Mandy (Bill) Moeller, Markesan; 12 grandchildren; six sisters; four brothers; his mother-in-law, Lorraine Clough, Waupun; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by one brother.

Friends may call on Thursday, Jan. 9, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home, Waupun.

Helen M. Udell
CAMBRIA - Helen M. Udell, 80, of Cambria, and formerly of Suring, died on Monday, Jan. 6, 2003, at the Columbus Community Hospital.

The funeral will be held on Friday, Jan. 10, at 10 a.m., at the Kratz-Smedema Funeral Home, Cambria. The Rev. Ray Miller will officiate. Burial will be held at a later date in the spring in Hickory cemetery, town of Maple Valley, Oconto County.

Helen was born in Maple Valley on Aug. 1, 1922, the daughter of Marius and Sena (Makholm) Jorgensen. She was married to Lester Udell on July 2, 1954.

Following her husband's death on Sept. 20, 1994, Helen moved to Portage to be nearer to relatives, until moving to Cambria in September 2002. She enjoyed her pastime with arts, crafts and attending many area flea markets.

Helen will be deeply missed by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Lester.

Friends may call on Friday, Jan. 10, from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the Kratz-Smedema Funeral Home, Cambria.
