Barbara J. Braker
Barbara J. Braker, 57, of W10036 Highway S, Beaver Dam, died on Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2003, after a long struggle with cancer, at Beaver Dam Community Hospital, surrounded by her family and friends.

The funeral will be held on Friday, Jan. 17, at 11:30 a.m., at the Koepsell Funeral Home, Beaver Dam. The Rev. Philip Heyer will officiate. Burial will be in Leipsig cemetery, town of Beaver Dam.

Barbara was born on April 6, 1945, in Beaver Dam, the daughter of Robert and Lillian (Hess) Hollander. She was married to Arthur Braker on Feb. 1, 1964, in Columbus.

Barbara attended Sunlit Grade School in Randolph; Randolph High School and then graduated from Columbus High School. She and her husband worked side by side on the Graper Farms all their married life and have developed a very special bond with Altine Graper. She was a member of St. Stephen's Ev. Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam. Barb enjoyed gardening, fishing and playing cards.

Survivors include her husband, Art Braker, Beaver Dam; one daughter, Peggy (special friend Tom Farr) Braker, Beaver Dam; one son, Mark (Marley) Braker, Jackson; three granddaughters, Ashley, Amber and Abbey; two brothers, Robert (Esther) Hollander, Minnesota, and Donald (Carol) Hollander, Columbus; one sister, Joan (Howard) Drzonek, Beaver Dam; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Friends may call on Friday, Jan. 17, from 10 to 11:30 a.m., at the Koepsell Funeral Home, Beaver Dam.

Raymond Dykstra
WAUPUN - Raymond Dykstra, 69, of Waupun, died Friday, Jan. 10, 2003, at Waupun Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his family.

The funeral was held on Monday, Jan. 13, at 2 p.m., at the Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home, Waupun. The Rev. Kenneth Spence officiated. Burial followed at Forest Mound cemetery, Waupun.

Mr. Dykstra was born on March 11, 1933, in Randolph, the son of Lambert and Josie (Wiensma) Dykstra. He was married to Lorraine Grau on July 31, 1953, in Waupun.

Mr. Dykstra and his wife farmed near Randolph until 1964, at which time they moved to Waupun. He then became employed with Gleason Reel in Mayville for over 30 years, retiring in 1995. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Survivors include two sons, Lambert Dykstra and Raymond A. Dykstra, both of Waupun; three daughters, Kathy (Don) Oppermann, Waupun, Karen (Steve) Fisher, Cambria, and Amy (Phillip) Vande Zande, Waupun; 13 grandchildren, Joshua, Michael, Ryan, Ray and Randi Dykstra, Amanda, Bethany and Carrie Vande Zande, Jeffrey Rawski, Laurie and Karie Schmidt, and Matthew and John Fisher; his mother, Josie Dykstra, Randolph; four brothers, George (Anne) Dykstra, Randolph, Peter (Marie) Dykstra, Tennessee, Arnold (Geraldine) Dykstra, Michigan, and William (Ardelle) Dykstra, Waupun; three sisters, Nettie DeJong, Michigan, Jane Nehmer, Randolph, and Jelene (Marvin) Van Dyk, Mchigan; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine on Jan. 20, 1983; one son, Randy; his father Lambert, and two brothers, Henry and Alvin Dykstra.

Friends called on Monday, Jan. 13, from 11 a.m. until the time of service at the Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home, Waupun.

Ken Klumpers
WAUPUN - Ken Klumpers, 71, of Waupun, died on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2003, at the Beaver Dam Community Hospital, with his family at his side.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, Jan. 18, at 9:30 a.m., at Alto Reformed Church, Alto. The Revs. Gregg Pisateri and Ted Meekma will officiate. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Garden, town of Trenton.

Mr. Klumpers was born on Sept. 9, 1931, in Alto, the son of Clarence and Henrietta (Schouten) Klumpers. He was married to Jessie Koopmans on Oct. 3, 1958, in Randolph.

Mr. Klumpers and his wife lived in the Waupun area all their married life. He was employed by the Alto Dairy for nearly 50 years. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren and had a passion for raising flowers and an insatiable sweet tooth.

Survivors include his wife, Jessie; two sons, Dennis Klumpers, Ripon, and Greg (Christine) Klumpers, Mount Horeb; four daughters, Glenda (Rusty) Savoy, Colorado Springs, Colo., Coleen (Scott) Ciliske, St. Paul, Minn., Donna (Thomas) Bambrough, Middleton, and Kim (Jeff) Abler, Bloomington, Ind.; missed by AFS daughter, Jackie (Neil) Pontin, London, England; 10 grandchildren; one brother, Alton (Marilyn) Klumpers, Waupun; and two sisters, Marion (Arnold) Tolsma, Fox Lake, and Helen Cupery, Waupun.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Gladys Klumpers.

Friends may call on Friday, Jan. 18, from 5 to 8 p.m., at Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home, Waupun, and on Saturday, Jan. 18, from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the Alto Reformed Church, Alto.

Mary R. Molthen
FOX LAKE - Mary R. Molthen, 95, of 209 Forest St., Fox Lake, formerly of 707 Norris St., Beaver Dam, died on Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2003, at her residence.

The funeral will be held on Friday, Jan. 17, at 10:30 a.m., at First Ev. Lutheran Church, Beaver Dam. The Rev. David Bitler will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Memorial Park, Fox Lake.

Mrs. Molthen was born on Sept. 27, 1907, in the town of Burnett, the daughter of Charles and Mattilda (Giese) Haslow. She was married to Lester Molthen on Jan. 7, 1939.

Mrs. Molthen was employed at Weyenberg Shoe Factory, Beaver Dam, for many years. She was a member of the First Ev. Lutheran Church, Beaver Dam, where she was active in the Retirees. She also was an avid bowler in the Senior League.

Survivors include one stepson, Gerald Molthen, Princeton; two sisters-in-law, Johanna Haslow and Eleanor Haslow, both of Beaver Dam; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Lester in 1970; six brothers, Milo, Elmer, William, Lester, Andy and Erwin in infancy; three sisters, Dora Pillsbury, Lydia Pillsbury and Adelia Haslow.

Friends may call on Friday, Jan. 17, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the First Ev. Lutheran Church, Beaver Dam.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, the Beaver Dam Hillside Hospice, or the First Ev. Lutheran Church Radio Fund.

Richard W. Tobin
Richard W. Tobin, 75, of Beaver Dam, died on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2003, at the Beaver Dam Community Hospital.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, Jan. 17, at noon, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Beaver Dam. The Rev. Charles Scheuerell will officiate. Burial will be in St. Patrick's cemetery, town of Beaver Dam.

Richard was born on May 2, 1927, in Rice Lake, the son of Elmer and Martha (Jackowiak) Tobin. He was married to Elaine Jahnke on June 16, 1951, in Beaver Dam.

Richard was a 1946 graduate of Beaver Dam High School and had been a resident of Beaver Dam since 1928. He worked as a supervisor at John Deere Horicon Works for 34 years, retiring in 1982. Richard was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society and was an honorary member of the Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his wife, Elaine Tobin, Beaver Dam; one daughter, Patricia Tobin, Beaver Dam; one sister, Donna (Harry) Shute, Eagle River; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, LaVerne Tobin.

Friends may call on Friday, Jan. 17, from 11 to noon, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Beaver Dam.

Memorials may be made to St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Beaver Dam.

Evelyn C. Berndt
Evelyn C. Berndt, 83, of Horicon, died on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2003, at Mount Sinai Hospital in Milwaukee.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, Jan. 18, at 11 a.m., at Murray Community Funeral Home, Horicon. The Rev. Mark Hasty will officiate. Burial will be in Oakhill cemetery, Horicon.

Evelyn was born on Jan. 12, 1920, in Horicon, the daughter of Walter and Leora (Burow) Richert. She was married to Gust W. Berndt on May 25, 1941, in Horicon.

Evelyn was a lifelong resident of the Horicon area and attended Horicon High School. She worked at John Deere Horicon Works for 10 years. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, Horicon.

Survivors include two sons, Russell Berndt, Beaver Dam, and Daniel (Katherine) Berndt, West Palm Beach, Fla.; three grandchildren, Deborah (Bruce) Siedschlag, Denise (John) Kosloski, and Nicholas (Sheyenne) Berndt; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gust, on Jan. 12, 1995; one grandson, Dean Berndt; one sister and brother-in-law, Frances (Clarence) VanHeirden, and one daughter-in-law, Mary Berndt.

Friends may call on Saturday, Jan. 18, from 10 to 11 a.m., at Murray Community Funeral Home, Horicon.

Mildred H. Schoppe
HORICON - Mildred H. Schoppe, 81, of 839 Division St., Victorian Villa, Horicon, formerly of 602 N. Cedar St., Horicon, died on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2003, at Beaver Dam Community Hospital.

The funeral will be held on Friday, Jan. 17, at 11 a.m., at St. Stephen Lutheran Church, Horicon. The Rev. Dennis D. Sundell will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery, Horicon.

Mildred was born on Jan. 21, 1921, in the town of Hubbard, the daughter of Felix and Clara (Schildt) Schoppe.

Mildren attended St. Stephen Lutheran School, Horicon, and graduated from Horicon High School in 1939. After helping on the family farm until the death of her father, she was recommended for a position at the John Deere Horicon Works by her former teacher, Gomer Jones, and remained in their employment for 31 years, retiring in 1982. She was a member of St. Stephen Lutheran Church, Horicon; a member of the Walther League, taught Sunday school for 30 years, and was a member of the LWML, and held local and circuit offices in each of these at various times. She also taught a ladies Bible class, was a member of the Board of Parish Education and the Board of Evangelism, and had many other short and long term assignments. She was a member of the St. Stephen Ladies Guild; Concordia University Wisconsin PACE; International Lutheran Laymen's League; Lutheran Bible Translators; Horicon Historical Society and the Horicon State Bank Gliding Free Club.

Survivors include cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father in 1949; her mother in 1981, and her twin sister in infancy.

Friends may call on Friday, Jan. 17, from 10 to 11 a.m., at St. Stephen Lutheran Church, Horicon.

Memorials may be made to St. Stephen Lutheran Church, Horicon.

Dorothy M. Priem
COLUMBUS - Dorothy M. Priem, 84, of 550 River Road, Columbus, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2003, at the Larson House.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, Jan. 18, at 11 a.m., at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church, Columbus. The Rev. Daniel Sims will officate. Burial will be in Hillside cemetery, Columbus.

Mr. Priem was born on Nov. 23, 1918, in Columbus, the daughter of August and Emelie (Zinn) Schleif. She was married to Harold Priem on June 26, 1943, in Columbus.

Mrs. Priem was a 1936 graduate of Columbus High School. She was a lifelong Columbus area resident. She was a member of the Columbus Women's Club and a member of Zion Ev. Lutheran Church, Columbus, and its Ladies Aid.

Survivors include one daughter, Jacqulyn Hartfiel, Beaver Dam; one daughter-in-law, Evelyn Priem, Columbus; four grandchildren, Sarah Hartfiel, Denver, Colo., Nathan (fiancee Klara Hercules) Hartfiel, Juneau, Jason (fiancee Becky Baerwolf) Priem, Columbus, and Rebecca Priem, Madison; other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son-in-law, Daniel Hartfiel; her husband, Harold; one son, Stuart; two brothers and one sister.

Friends may call on Saturday, Jan. 18, from 10 to 11 a.m., at Zion Lutheran Church, Columbus.

Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Patricia E. Felch
WESTFIELD - Patricia E. Felch 49, of Westfield, formerly of Beaver Dam, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 16, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center, Oshkosh.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 18, at 4 p.m., at Steinhaus-Holly Funeral Home, Westfield. The Rev. Rae Ann Bloomquist will officiate.

Patricia was born on June 29, 1953, in Bristol, Conn., the daughter of Wendell and Barbara Plumb. She was married to Rodney Felch on April 22, 1983, in Beaver Dam.

Patricia worked for the Department of Corrections at Redgranite. She was a member of A.B.A.T.E. of Wisconsin where she formerly served as treasurer and on the board of directors.

Survivors include her husband, Rodney; one son, Steve Dupuis, Beaver Dam; two grandchildren, Riley and Lexi; her mother, Barbara Plumb, Connecticut; two brothers, Roger (Linda Wulff) Plumb, Beaver Dam, and Chris Plumb, Arizona; two sisters, Janice (Henry) Poulin, Connecticut, and Jennifer (Pat) Kelley, Michigan; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Wendell.

Friends may call on Saturday, Jan. 18, from 3 p.m until the time of service at the Steinhaus-Holly Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Westfield.

Ronald B. Edgerton
Ronald Bryan Edgerton passed away on Dec. 24, 2002, at age 94, in Ruskin, Fla.

He was born in Beaver Dam, and was the seventh of 10 children of Wilfred and Lena (Herr) Edgerton of Beaver Dam. He and his brothers and sisters all graduated from Beaver Dam High School. He was married to Alice K. Edgerton for 64 years. He earned his B.A., M.A., and Ph.D degrees at the University of Wisconsin, where he taught for eight years. He later taught at the University of Chicago, Eau Claire State, and Boston University.

A specialist in innovative methods of teaching, he was called upon over the years to direct summer workshops for teachers at seven universities. His research and articles on the reading difficulties of children's encyclopedias resulted in great improvement in their readability.

As Director of Social Studies for the Brookline, Massachusetts Public Schools, his teaching of college-level history courses in high school seminars pioneered the establishment of advanced placement programs in history nationwide.

While head of the Social Studies Department at Ginn and Co. Publishers, he revised Muzzey's famous text in American history, and co-authored Understanding Our Government.

In 1985, he moved from Harwich, Mass. to Sun City Center, Fla., where he was chancellor of the Community Church College and a frequent speaker at many local organizations. He had a delightful sense of humor.

He leaves four children: Dr. Kathleen E. Kendall, Visiting Professor of Communication, University of Maryland; Alicelee Graf, past president of the Antique Quilt Source of Carlisle, Pa.; Dr. Ronald K. Edgerton, Professor of History, University of Northern Colorado, Greeley; and William B. Edgerton, director of public works, Concord, Mass. He is also survived by six grandchildren, and two sisters, Dorothy Schumann of Beaver Dam and Betty Hathaway of Grosse Point Woods, Mich.

A memorial scholarship honoring Dr. Edgerton will be established at Beaver Dam High School. Contributions can be made to: Ronald B. Edgerton Memorial Scholarship in U.S. History, c/o Bill Edgerton, 228 Parker St., Newton Center, MA 02459.
