Vincent Nell
Vincent Nell, 77, of Beaver Dam and Mesa, Ariz., passed away on Monday, Jan. 13, 2003, at Valley Lutheran Hospital, Mesa, Ariz.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, Jan. 18, at 1 p.m., at St. Stephen's Ev. Lutheran Church, Beaver Dam. The Rev. Mark Lindner will officiate. Private burial will be held in Oakwood cemetery, Beaver Dam.

Vincent was born on March 14, 1925, in the town of Beaver Dam, the son of August and Emma Nell. He was married to Betty Lindert on Oct. 15, 1949.

Vincent and his wife, Betty, farmed near Juneau and he also sold Tracy's seed corn. He enjoyed being a member of Kiwanis and working at Derge County Park. He enjoyed traveling, air-streaming and spending winters in Arizona. He had a great capacity to learn, loved to experience new things and sharing them with his family and friends. He was a member of St. Stephen's Ev. Lutheran Church, Beaver Dam, where he was baptized and confirmed.

Survivors include his wife, Betty; seven children, Nancy (Lynn) Wolfgram, Pat (Keith) Nagel, Cheryl (Peter) Jung, Kathy (Henry) Nehmer, Donna (fiance John Westendorf) Nell, Steven Nell, Christine (Douglas) Snow; four grandchildren, Caitlyn Nehmer, Matthew Jung, Greta and Tobias Snow; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Elmyra Beal.

Friends may call on Saturday, Jan. 18, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., at St. Stephen's Ev. Lutheran Church, Beaver Dam.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to St. Stephen's Ev. Lutheran Church and School, Beaver Dam.

The Koepsell Funeral Home, Beaver Dam, is serving the family.

Joyce A. Arnone
Joyce A. Arnone, 61, of Beaver Dam, formerly of Olney, Ill., died on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003, at home.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 21, at 11 a.m., at the Koepsell Funeral Home, Beaver Dam. The Rev. Robert Wilke will officiate. Burial will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 22, at 10 a.m., in Mound cemetery, Willow Hill, Ill.

Joyce was born on May 17, 1941, in Evansville, the daughter of George and Sylvia Brown (Serres) Winchell. She was married to Sam Arnone on Aug. 22, 1986, in Edgerton.

Joyce was employed at the UW Physical Plant for 12 years. Her first passion and love was to care for the elderly and sick. She worked with her mother in many nursing homes. She was very compassionate about friends, relatives and people in general.

Survivors include her children, Charles J. Stanford, Madison, Linda K. Mooreland, Sun Prairie, Glen S. Stanford, Madison, Brenda L. Stanford, Sun Prairie, and three stepchildren of Olney, Ill.; one sister, Sonia Revels, Hastins, Neb., one brother, Steve (Lanette) Brown, Beaver Dam; one sister-in-law, JoAnn Brown, Jefferson; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three nephews, Michael, Nicholas and Darren Brown; one niece, DeAnna Brown; five step-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 16 years.

Friends may call on Tuesday, Jan. 21, from 10 to 11 a.m., at the Koepsell Funeral Home, Beaver Dam.

Special thanks to the Beaver Dam Hospice staff for all they have done. Also to the special ladies: Jane Winning, Debbie Brown and Mary Knutson, who helped our family through until Joyce's next journey.

Cora A. Germain
GREEN BAY - Cora A. Germain, 86, of Green Bay, died on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003, at her home.

Mrs. Germain was born on Feb. 6, 1916, in Stambough, Mich., the daughter of the late Henry and Columbia (Chesky) Conta. She was married to Martin Germain on Jan. 23, 1937, in Iron Mountain, Mich.

Mrs. Germain graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh with high honors in 1974. She served as a school librarian in Sevastapole for many years.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Gerald and Sally Germain, and Eugene and Georgia Germain; five grandchildren, Eugene Germain (special friend Margie), Martin (Helen) Germain, Georgia Marie (Kanon) Granstaff, Pamela (Rob) Farrell and Jennifer (Ken) Stearns; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Leo and Evelyn Conta and Roy and Shirley Conta; one sister, Jean Palmer; two brothers-in-law, Barth Ryan and Robert Wickman.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Martin, on April 19, 1967; one granddaughter, Anna and two sisters, Della Wickman and Wilma Ryan.

Friends may call on Wednesday, Jan. 22, after 1 p.m., at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church, 2270 S. Oneida St., Green Bay, where a Mass of Christian burial will take place at 2 p.m. Burial will take place in Allouez Catholic cemetery.

The Lyndahl Funeral Home, Green Bay, is serving the family.

Alois Jezyk
Alois "Al" Jezyk, 86, of Beaver Dam, died on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2003, at Hillside Hospital, Beaver Dam.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, Jan. 18, at 11 a.m., at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Beaver Dam. The Rev. Emmanuel Udo will officiate. Burial will be in St. Michael's Catholic cemetery at a later date.

Mr. Jezyk was born on March 8, 1916, in Beaver Dam, the son of Frank and Angeline (Jezyk) Jezyk. He was married to Lois A. Burgdorff on June 30, 1951, at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Beaver Dam.

Mr. Jezyk was a lifelong resident of Beaver Dam and attended Beaver Dam High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, attaining the rank of sergeant. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and its Holy Name Society. He worked at the Monarch Range Co. for over 40 years. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and loved to be with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Lois Jezyk, Beaver Dam; three children, Christine (Kevin) Bedker, Beaver Dam, Anthony (Kay) Jezyk, Beaver Dam, and Mary (Kenneth) Strauss, Beaver Dam; nine grandchildren, Kevin Jr., Aaron and Jordan Bedker, Anthony Jr., Jade, Alisha and Cullen Jezyk, Angeleen and Nathan Strauss; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Esther Beers, Lucille Jezyk and Beatrice Jezyk, and one brother, Lester Jezyk.

Friends may call on Saturday, Jan 18, from 9 a.m. until the time of service at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Beaver Dam.

Memorials are suggested.

Adela T. Polzin
Adela "Della" T. Polzin, 95, of Beaver Dam, died on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003, at Hillside Manor, Beaver Dam.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday, Jan 22, at 12:30 p.m., at Murray Community Funeral Home. The Rev. Philip Heyer will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Memory Garden, town of Trenton.

The former Adela Theresa Zirbel was born on Feb. 1, 1907, in Iron Ridge, to the late Carl and Emma (Retzlaff) Zirbel. The family moved to South Shores, S.D., where Della spent her early years. She was united in marriage with Erwin Ulmer Sr., in 1927, in Wisconsin. Della worked at Rockwell in Randolph, for several years and later worked at Weyenberg Shoe Factory for 30 years until she retired in 1972. On Oct. 17, 1946, Della was married to Stanley Polzin in Beaver Dam. She was a member of St. Stephen's Lutheran Church, Beaver Dam.

Survivors include two sons, Lamoyne Ulmer, Beaver Dam, and Erwin (Glendoris) Ulmer Jr., Beaver Dam; two grandchildren, Mark (Jennifer) Ulmer, Cottage Grove, and Lori Anne Guenther, Horicon; seven great-grandchildren, Louisa, Maria and Jordan Guenther, Horicon, Kaitlyn and Bryce Ulmer, Kenosha, Jared Ulmer and Sarah Ulmer, Cottage Grove; three step-grandchildren, Marilyn (John) Hempel, Eau Claire, Carol Mazur, Fort Collins, Colo. and Lee Mazur, Beaver dam; five step-great-grandchildren, Camile Hempel, Brooklyn, N.Y., Heather Hempel, Madison, Ross Hempel, Eau Claire, Maria (John) Miaer, Reston, Va., and Stacey (Chris) Couch, Oregon; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Polzin, in 1987; one son, Dewayne Ulmer, who was killed during World War II in 1945; three brothers, Andrew, Erwin and Edward Zirbel; four sisters, Alma Grewing, Clara Sterry, Lorinda Blumhardt and Hertha Schmeling; two infant brothers and two infant sisters.

Elmer Bauernfeind
Elmer Bauernfeind, 82, N8404 Shorecrest Road, Beaver Dam, died on Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003, at St. Mary's Hospital, Madison.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 22, at 11 a.m., at Peace Lutheran Church, Beaver Dam. The Rev. John Breitwisch will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Memory Gardens, town of Trenton.

Elmer was born on May 22, 1920, in Milwaukee, the son of Robert and Agnes (Hassel) Bauernfeind. He was married to Martha Riebe on June 4, 1952, in Waukegan, Ill.

Elmer farmed in the Milwaukee area until 1970 and then in the town of Westford. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, Beaver Dam.

Survivors include his wife, Martha, Beaver Dam; three children, John D. (Tricia) Bauernfeind, Beaver Dam, Diane S. (Bauernfeind) Young, Sun Prairie, and Mark R. (Lois) Bauernfeind, Beaver Dam; two brothers, Roy (Shirley) Bauernfeind, San Antonio, Texas, and Norman (Charlotte) Bauernfeind, Racine; 13 grandchildren, Sandra (Jason) Linser, Tamara (fiance Jason Whitt) Young, Cassandra, Joshua, Stephanie, Jessica, Melissa, Matthew (Aryn), Benjamin, Daniel, Dana, Alison and Samantha; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Friends may call on Tuesday, Jan. 21, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Koepsell Funeral Home, Beaver Dam, and on Wednesday, Jan. 22, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at Peace Lutheran Church, Beaver Dam.

Milton Westhuis
WAUPUN - Milton Westhuis, 69, of Waupun, died on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003, at the Christian Home, Waupun.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 22, at 10:30 a.m., at the Alto Reformed Church, Alto. The Rev. Dr. Gregg Pusateri will officiate. Burial will follow at the Alto cemetery, Alto.

Mr. Westhuis was born on March 15, 1933, in Waupun, the son of Arthur and Marion (Landaal) Westhuis. He was married to Beverly Hadley on March 17, 1956, in Alto.

Mr. Westhuis and his wife lived in the Waupun area all their married life. He was an independent milk trucker for the Alto Dairy for many years. He was a member of the Alto Reformed Church, Alto.

Survivors include his wife, Beverly, Waupun; three sons, Anthony (Donna) Westhuis, Fond du Lac, Allen (Louise) Westhuis, Hudson, and Loren (Karen) Westhuis, Waupun; one daughter, Debra (Daniel) Hoekstra, Waupun; 10 grandchildren, Jessica (Robert) Techlow, Jody, Jackie, Michelle, Michael and Tyler Westhuis, Danielle, John and Brock Hoekstra, and Trisha (Dustin) Burchardt; two great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Millie (Bernes) Henken, Burnett, and Carol (Pat) Vande Berg, Waupun; two stepsisters, Marion Hull, Waupun, and Sylvia (Myron) Hull, Waupun; and one step sister-in-law, Gwen DeGraff.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Alton Westhuis and his stepmother, Jennie.

Friends may call on Tuesday, Jan. 21, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home, Waupun, and on Wednesday, Jan. 22, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the Alto Reformed Church, Alto.

Samuel A. Boomsma
CAMBRIA - Samuel A. "Sam" Boomsma, 72, of Cambria, died on Friday, Jan. 17, 2003, at the Beaver Dam Community Hospital.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 22, at 11 a.m., at First Presbyterian Church, Cambria. The Revs. Roger Patton and Julie WaterDu will officiate. Burial will be in Randolph cemetery, Randolph.

Sam was born on March 25, 1930, in Randolph, the sixth of ten children to Nick and Josie (Postma) Boomsma. He was married to Judy Whitmore on Jan. 8, 1954, at First Presbyterian Church parsonage, Cambria.

Sam attended the England country school and was employed with Bennett Farms for many years, then worked at the former Green Giant Canning Co. in Fox Lake. Sam then worked for the Jung Farms for 18 years and American Packaging in Columbus for 18 years until ill health forced him into retirement. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, doing yard work, camping in northern Wisconsin and was an avid Euchre card player. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Cambria, where he served as past elder and head of the grounds committee.

He will be sadly missed and mourned by his wife of 49 years, Judy of Cambria; four sons, Terry (Betty) Boomsma, Beaver Dam, Kevin Boomsma, Madison, Greg (Tina) Boomsma, Reno, Nev., and Steve Boomsma, Madison; three grandchildren, Tara Boomsma, Megan (Jayme) Duckett, and Jacob Boomsma; three great-grandchildren, Taylor Boomsma, Brody Keinast and Madelynn Duckett; two sisters, Dorothy James, Kingston, and Clara (John) Weinberger, Randolph; two brothers, Harry (Charlotte) Boomsma and James (Justine) Boomsma, both of Randolph; special sisters-in-law, Helen Boomsma, Rio, and Mary Berschet, Sun Prairie; many other relatives and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, John, Bob and Don, and two sisters, Jessie and Alberta.

Friends may call on Tuesday, Jan. 21, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Kratz-Smedema Funeral Home, Cambria, and on Wednesday, Jan. 22, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the First Presbyterian Church, Cambria.

Ruth Musser Myers
COLUMBUS - Ruth Musser Myers, 90, of 425 W. James St., Columbus, died on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2003, at her home, after a life filled with love and happiness.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 25, at 11 a.m., at the Columbus United Methodist Church. The Rev. John Hobbins will officiate. Burial will be in Burton Family cemetery, Mitchell, Ind. There will be no visitation.

Ruth was born on July 21, 1912, in East Liverpool, Ohio, the daughter of Ira and Lyda (Broome) Musser. She was married to O. Allen Myers on Oct. 23, 1936, in Chicago.

Ruth had a lifetime commitment to nursing. She qualified as a registered nurse at Cook County Hospital, Illinois, and later studied at the University of Wisconsin, receiving certification as a school nurse. She was a night supervisor at the Mendota Mental Health Institute for nine years and Columbus School District nurse for 15 years. She was an active member of the Columbus United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She was an enthusiastic golfer and bowler, and she and her husband were known around Columbus as avid walkers until her final illness. Her zest for life led to her being featured as a "Home Town Hero" on WISC-TV at age 88.

Survivors include her husband, Allen Myers, Columbus; four sons, Richard (Marilyn), Madison, Allen (Helen Jarvis), Australia, James, Columbus, and David (Elizabeth), Madison; six grandchildren, Cindy, Colleen, Richard, Mina, Christopher and Daniel; two great-grandchildren, Justin and Madalyn.

She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Leonard, Max, Robert, Donald and Richard, and two sisters, Evelyn Myers and Lois Eoff.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hillside Hospice, 709 S. University Ave., Beaver Dam, WI 53916, or the Columbus United Methodist Church.

The Jones-Jensen Funeral Home, Columbus, is serving the family.

Betty A. Posthuma
WAUPUN - Betty A. Posthuma, 71, of Waupun, died on Thursday, Jan. 23, 2002, at Waupun Memorial Hospital, Waupun, following a lengthy battle with diabetes.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, Jan. 25, at 10:30 a.m., at the First Reformed Church, Waupun. The Rev. Rick Boon will officiate. Burial will follow at Forest Mound cemetery, Waupun.

Betty was born on April 7, 1931, in Reedsburg, the daughter of Lawrence and Margaret (Sandmeyer) All. She was married to Jacob Posthuma on Dec. 12, 1950, in East Friesland.

Following their marriage, the couple resided in the Waupun area all their married life. She was a member of the First Reformed Church, Waupun. She loved her grandchildren and enjoyed cooking, baking and ceramics.

Survivors include her husband, Jacob, Waupun; five sons, Allan (Linda) Posthuma, Beaver Dam, David (Deborah) Posthuma, Fox Lake, Gary (Diane) Posthuma, Waupun, Brian (Marcia) Posthuma, Fox Lake, and Rodney (Brenda) Posthuma, Beaver Dam; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Gerald (Carol) All, Neenah; five sisters, Arlene Smolen and her husband Mike Kenevan, Columbus, Shirley (Merlin) Tolsma, Fox Lake, Patricia (Ardy) Wiersma, Manchester, Nancy (Larry) Engel, Markesan, and Anita Miller, Texas; several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three infant sons; her parents; an infant sister, and two great-grandsons.

Friends called on Friday, Jan. 24, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home, Waupun, and may call on Saturday, Jan. 25, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the First Reformed Church, Waupun.

The family requests that memorials be directed to the Diabetes Foundation.
