Merlin A. Birkholz
Merlin A. Birkholz, 76, of 716 Mary St., Beaver Dam, died on Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003, at his home.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, Jan. 25, at 1 p.m., at St. Stephen's Ev. Lutheran Church, Beaver Dam. The Rev. Mark Lindner will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Memory Gardens, town of Trenton.

Merlin was born on March 24, 1926, in the town of Trenton, the son of George and Esther (Port) Birkholz. He was married to Jean Wendlandt on Sept. 30, 1950.

Merlin lived his early life in the town of Trenton and attended parochial school at St. John's in the town of Trenton. He was a member of St. Stephen's Ev. Lutheran Church, Beaver Dam. For 19 years he was employed by Home Dairy and for 22 years by Green Giant/Pillsbury, retiring in 1988.

Survivors include his wife, Jean, Beaver Dam; one daughter, Cindy Birkholz, West Bend; three sisters, Florence (Frederick) Keil, Theone Klug and Janice Falkinham, all of Beaver Dam; sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers, Elroy, Clarence and Elton Birkholz.

Friends may call on Saturday, Jan. 25, from 11 a.m. until the time of service at St. Stephen's Ev. Lutheran Church, Beaver Dam.

Memorials may be made to St. Stephen's Ev. Lutheran Church, Beaver Dam, or to Lakeside Lutheran High School, Lake Mills.

Arthur F. DePover
WATERTOWN - Arthur F. DePover, 80, of Watertown, died on Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003, at Watertown Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, Jan. 25, at 11 a.m., at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Watertown. The Rev. Matthew Dollhausen will officiate. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by Watertown City Veterans Council.

Arthur was born on Jan. 9, 1923, in Waterloo, the son of Camiel and Euphrasie (Calus) DePover. He was married to Suzanna Kokalares on Aug. 27, 1949, in Iowa.

Arthur was a repairman for Sears in Watertown for 14 years; a maintenance man for Kusel Dairy Equipment for 12 years and had a small engine repair shop in retirement. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theatre, France, in the 26th Infantry Division. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Watertown. He was an avid hunter. He loved spending time with his family and friends.

Survivors include one daughter, Janet Simon, Johnson Creek; one son, Jim DePover, Watertown; two brothers, Joseph DePover, Reeseville, and Albert DePover, Beaver Dam; one sister, Emma Wiesensell, Reeseville; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife on Oct. 26, 1991; one son, Randy, and one brother, Louis.

Friends may call on Friday, Jan. 24, from 5 to 8 p.m., at Pederson's Funeral Home, Watertown, and on Saturday, Jan. 25, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Watertown.

Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Anna DeYoung
WAUPUN - Anna DeYoung, 91, a resident of the Christian Home, Waupun, died on Thursday, Jan. 23, 2002, at the Christian Home, Waupun.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, Jan. 25, at 11:30 a.m., at the Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home, Waupun. The Rev. David Parrish will officiate. Burial will follow in the Alto cemetery, Alto.

Anna was born on June 1, 1911, in Randolph, the daughter of Sam and Hattie (Luidens) Dykstra. She was married to Norman DeYoung on June 5, 1935, in Fox Lake.

Following their marriage, the couple farmed in the Randolph area and later resided in the town of Alto, from 1955 to 1995, at which time she moved to Waupun. She was a member of Emmanuel Reformed Church, Waupun.

Survivors include six children, Gladys (Robert) Brakrog, Wheaton, Ill., Kathleen DeYoung, Elmhurst, Ill., David (Vicki) DeYoung, Oakland, Calif., Jim DeYoung and his wife Leslie David, Whitefish Bay, Jean DeYoung and her husband Frank Burke, Wheaton, Ill., and Gary (Peggy) DeYoung, Wellesley Island, N.Y.; eight grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; one sister, Hattie Biermann, Waupun; three brothers, John (LaVone) Dykstra, Herman (Hazel) Dykstra, and Al (Thelma) Dykstra, all of Waupun; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman, and two brothers, Nicholas and Fred.

Friends may call on Saturday, Jan. 25, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home, Waupun.

Betty J. Rake
WAUPUN - Betty J. Rake, 68, of Waupun, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003, at her home.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, at 11 a.m., at the Kohls Community Funeral Home, Waupun. The Rev. Philip Heyer will officiate. Burial will be in Burnett Union cemetery.

Betty was born on March 31, 1934, in the town of Chester, Dodge County, the daughter of Robert and Verna (Prust) Elitzer. She was married to Donald Rake on Nov. 19, 1954, at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church, town of Trenton.

Betty was a 1952 Waupun High School graduate. She was a member of St. Stephen's Ev. Lutheran Church, Beaver Dam.

Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Donald Rake; one son, Craig (Barbara) Rake, Beaver Dam; one granddaughter, Tessa Rake and special friend Jason Vesnefsky, Fall River; one aunt, Hilda Wendlich, Portage; and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Friends may call on Saturday, Jan. 25, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the Kohls Community funeral Home, Waupun.

Nancy L. Meseberg
SUN PRAIRIE - Nancy L. Meseberg, 62, formerly of Columbus, died after a courageous battle with cancer on Friday, Jan. 24, 2003, at her home.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 28, at 11:30 a.m., at St. Jerome Catholic Church, Columbus. The Rev. Bruce Hennington will officiate. Burial will be in Hillside cemetery, Columbus.

Nancy was born on June 25, 1940, in LaCrosse, the daughter of William and Helen (Maliska) Roraff. She was married to Harland "Boots" Meseberg on June 27, 1959, in LaCrosse.

Nancy was a supporter and volunteer of the March of Dimes and 4-Lakes 4-wheelers. She enjoyed painting and craft projects where her artistic talent was evident. She also had a passion for flowers and loved music, especially Native American music. Everyone who knew Nancy loved her, and she will be sadly missed.

Survivors include two sons, Tony (Inez), Keshena, and Tom (fiancee Amy Bourne), Columbus; two daughters, Laurie (Don) Baerwolf and Leann (Neal) Setz, both of Columbus; four grandchildren, Becky (fiance Jason Priem) Baerwolf, Danny (Roseann) Baerwolf, Elizabeth Baerwolf, and Oscar Setz; three great-grandchildren, Casondra Baerwolf, Cameron Baerwolf, and Alannis Schultz; other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Ted, and one brother, Jerry Roraff.

Friends may call on Monday, Jan. 27, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Jones-Jensen Funeral Home, Columbus, where a prayer service will be held at 7:45 p.m., and on Tuesday, Jan. 28, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., at St. Jerome Church, Columbus.

Memorials may be made to the March of Dimes or Mesothelioma Cancer Research.

Bruce A. Stafford
Bruce Allen Stafford, 36, of 1103 Lombardi Lane, Beaver Dam, died on Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003, in Beaver Dam.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 29, at 1 p.m., at the St. Stephen's Ev. Lutheran Church, Beaver Dam. The Rev. Philip Heyer will officiate. Cremation will take place.

Bruce was born on Jan. 24, 1966, in Milwaukee, the son of Robert G. and Betty (Johnson) Stafford. He was married to Lori L. Burmester on March 19, 1988, in Beaver Dam.

Bruce attended Beaver Dam High School. He was employed with Centro Inc. of Horicon. He was a member of St. Stephen's Ev. Lutheran Church, Beaver Dam. He was a very devoted husband and father. He took much pride in watching his sons play basketball and football, and his daughters in cheerleading. He loved camping, fishing and going to concerts. Bruce's love for his family and friends is unending. He will be deeply missed by his wife, children, family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Lori L. Stafford, Beaver Dam; five children, Zacchary Allen, Elizabeth Catherine, Christopher Henry, Hannah Kierster Mary and Theodore James, all at home; his parents, Robert and Betty Stafford, Beaver Dam; his mother- and father-in-law, Alyce and Gordon Burmester, Wisconsin Rapids; two sisters, Bonnie (Craig) Grebel, and Becky (Jerry) Klas, both of Beaver Dam; three brothers-in-law, Don (Terri) Burmester, Cedarburg, David Burmester, Wisconsin Rapids, and Paul Burmester, Cordova, Tenn.; three sisters-in-law, Mary (Greg) Rodewald, Wisconsin Rapids, Lynn (Dave) Drake, Beaver Dam, and Jenifer (Michael) Ludwiczak, Wisconsin Rapids; nieces and nephews, Heather, Keith, Brian and Kevin Grebel, Marie Stafford, Trevor and Gavin Klas, Henry and Noah Burmester, Maggie, Adam and Sam Rodewald, Emma and Ben Drake, Michael, Nathaniel and Karissa Burmester, Robbie Radig, Cody Burmester, Jacob, Olivia and Julia Ludwiczak; great-nieces; great-nephews; dearest cousins, Larry and Joanne Hartzheim; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by an infant twin brother, Brian Lee; his grandparents, Henry and Lillian Stafford, and Richard and RoseIna Johnson.

Friends may call on Tuesday, Jan. 28, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Koepsell Funeral Home, Beaver Dam, and on Wednesday, Jan. 29, from noon until the time of service at St. Stephen's Ev. Lutheran Church, Beaver Dam.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family. A fund has been established at Dodge Central Credit Union.

Merlin A. Ehlers
MAYVILLE - Merlin A. Ehlers, 84, of 800 Lina St., Mayville, died on Friday, Jan. 24, 2003, at St. Mary's Hospital, Madison.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 28, at 11:30 a.m., at St. Peter Ev. Lutheran Church, Kekoskee. The Rev. Dennis Bratz will officiate. Burial will be in Union cemetery, Theresa.

Merlin was born on Oct. 3, 1918, in the town of Herman, Dodge County, the son of William and Esther (Justman) Ehlers. He was married to Anne Geary on Jan. 16, 1944, in Morden, England.

Merlin was employed with Mayville Metal Products of Mayville for 27 years as an engineering supervisor. He was a member of St. Peter Ev. Lutheran Church, Kekoskee. He served as president of St. Peter Congregation for many years. He was a veteran of World War II in the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his wife, Anne; three sons, Merlin Ehlers Jr., Tucson, Ariz., Chester Ehlers, Marietta, Ga., and Paul Ehlers, Juneau; sisters and brothers, William (Grace) Ehlers, Beaver Dam, Ruth Giese, Mayville, Delbert Ehlers, Mayville, and Carroll (Enda) Ehlers, Mayville; one brother-in-law, John (Helen) Geary, London, England; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Myron; one sister, LaVerne; four sisters-in-law, Lorrain Ehlers, Violet Ehlers, Elnora Ehlers and Catherine Elliston; and one brother-in-law, William Geary.

Friends may call on Tuesday, Jan. 28, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., at St. Peter Ev. Lutheran Church, Kekoskee.

Memorials may be directed to St. Peter's Church or school.

Jack R. Kutcher
Jack Richard Kutcher, 72, of 119 Keller Blvd., Beaver Dam, departed his earthly home surrounded by his loving family and beloved dog, Duke, on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, at Beaver Dam Community Hospital.

The funeral will be on Wednesday, Jan. 29, at 4 p.m., at the Koepsell Funeral Home, Beaver Dam. The Rev. Mark Jensen will officiate. Inurnment will be in Highland Memory Gardens, town of Trenton, at a later date.

Jack entered this world on April 22, 1930, in Beaver Dam, the son of Joseph and Anna (Wiselus) Kutcher. He was married to Dorothy Weber on July 31, 1954, in Beaver Dam.

Jack was a graduate of Beaver Dam High School's class of 1949. For 43 years, he was an inspector at MetalFab of Beaver Dam. He was a member of First Ev. Lutheran Church, Beaver Dam. He was an avid sportsman. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He served in the National Guard and reserves for 22 years. He was also a volunteer fireman in Beaver Dam for many years.

Survivors include his wife Dorothy Kutcher, Beaver Dam; three children, Russell (Cheryl) Kutcher, Oakfield, Justine (Harley) Walker and Kurt (Leah) Kutcher, all of Beaver Dam; three sisters, Sylvia Romeo, Pewaukee, Genevive Soboleski and Gladys (Bud) Schoenwetter, both of Beaver Dam; six grandchildren, Kyle and Drew Kutcher, Oakfield, Amber (Todd Wolfe) Walker, Auburn Walker, Bryce and Kendall Kutcher, all of Beaver Dam; great-grandson, Austin Walker, Beaver Dam; his mother-in-law, Hilda Weber, Beaver Dam; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Hilda A.A. Pegelow
HORICON - Hilda Anna Alma Pegelow, 83, of Horicon, died on Saturday, Jan. 26, 2003, at Hillside Manor, Beaver Dam.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 28, at 7 p.m., at the Murray Community Funeral Home, Horicon. The Rev. Daniel Seehafer will officiate. Burial will be in Oakhill cemetery, Horicon.

Mrs. Pegelow was born on Jan. 12, 1920, in the town of Hubbard, Dodge County, the daughter of Gustav and Anna (Brandt) Holz. She was married to Harley E. Pegelow on May 25, 1940, at St. Stephen Ev. Lutheran Church, Horicon.

Mrs. Pegelow was a lifelong resident of Dodge County and a member of St. Stephen Lutheran Church for many years. For over 20 years, she was a waitress and cook at various restaurants throughout the area including Paul & Ruth's Cafe, Waupun, Horicon City Dairy, Kozy Dinette and Skyline Diner. She was proud of her canning and frozen foods. She loved to watch or listen to the Brewers and the Packers. Her life was her husband and her children. She and her husband, Harley E. made many rag rugs and demonstrated this lost craft at the Satterlee Clark House, Horicon, and they worked on this craft together for many years. She and her husband had been members of the Sussex Engine Club and the Dodge County Antique Power Club, where they displayed and demonstrated their rug making.

Survivors include one son, Gary (Mary Ann) Pegelow, Waukesha; two daughters, Karen Borchardt and Jayne (Jack) Flouro, both of Horicon; six grandchildren, John (Samantha) Pegelow, Madison, Andrew (Kathy) Pegelow, Waukesha, Allen Borchardt, Horicon, Lee (Amy) Borchardt, Tennessee, Bradley Flouro and Julie Flouro, both of Horicon; one brother, Roy (Ruth) Holz, Watertown; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harley E. on Feb. 25, 2002; three brothers and one sister.

Friends may call on Tuesday, Jan. 28, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Murray Community Funeral Home, Horicon.
