Phyllis Landphier Witter
GREEN BAY - Phyllis Landphier Witter, 76, celebrated her heavenly birthday on Sunday, May 25, 2003, following a short stay at Parkview Manor in Green Bay.

The funeral will be held on Thursday, May 29, at 6 p.m., at the Pfotenhauer Funeral Home, East-Town Location, 2379 E. Mason St., Green Bay. The Rev. Steve Fewell will officiate. A committal service will be held at the Richland Center cemetery in Richland Center on Friday, May 30, at 2 p.m.

Phyllis was born on Nov. 18, 1926, in Viola, the daughter of David and Helen Naomi (Prouty) Landphier.

Phyllis graduated from high school in Richland Center in 1944. She attended business school in Minneapolis and later was employed by Northwest Airline. She moved to Madison to live with her aunt and uncle, Rachel and Earl Landphier. She met her husband, Fred L. Witter in 1946, after he returned from the war. They met at a New Years day dinner in the home of Fred's aunt and uncle, Lydia and Alan Shafer, who lived next door to the Landphier's. They were married on Jan. 4, 1947, in the home of her parents. She worked at Macheel TV in Beaver Dam, where her children graduated from high school. In 1981, she moved to Madison and lived in the home of Allen (Jake) Shafer. In 1999, she retired from Employers Health in Madison. During this time, she met many friends with her dog, Dixie, and enjoyed their regular walks in the Dog Park. She moved to Green Bay in December 1999 to be near her daughter. She had a zest for life and enjoyed her independence. She enjoyed her family, socializing with friends, spending time with her dog, Dixie, sewing and gardening. She liked swimming with her friends at the YWCA Encore Program. She was a proud American, and enjoyed political debate as she was a true patriot.

Survivors include one daughter, Phyllis Jean Witter, Green Bay; three sons and daughters-in-law, Bob (Nancy) Witter, Hartford, David (Rita) Witter, Mazomanie, and J. Fred (Pauline) Witter, Beaver Dam; four grandchildren, Bobbie Jo (Changil) Bachman, Mequon, Paul, Hartford, Jake, Madison, and Ashley, Mazomanie; six great-grandchildren, Seth, Hope, Kara and Gabriel Bachman, Brent and Tyler Witter; one brother, Gordon Landphier, Waunakee; one niece, Linda Cohen, Waunakee; one nephew, Scott Landphier, Mazomanie; one cousin, Helen Marie Lassa, Muskego; other cousins, relatives and friends including her special canine friends, Dixie and Jessie.

She was preceded in death by her parents, David and Helen Landphier; her husband, Fred L. Witter; one brother, David Landphier Jr., one sister-in-law, Emily Landphier; one nieces, Diane Landphier; aunt and uncle, Rachel and Earl Landphier; aunt and uncle, Lydia and Allen Shafer, and one cousin, Mary Ellen Hammergren.

Friends may call on Thursday, May 29, from 4 to 6 p.m., at the Pfotenhauer Funeral Home, East-Town Location, 2379 E. Mason St., Green Bay.

A memorial has been established with the YWCA Encore Program in Green Bay. The Encore Program provides group support and water exercise for women who have had breast or cervical cancer. Checks may be made payable to the YWCA Encore Program. (Please mark "restricted funds for the Phyllis Witter memorial".)

J. O'Rourke
Francis J. "Red" O'Rourke, 82, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 24, 2003, at his home with his family and friends by his side.

A graveside service will be held at St. Jerome Catholic cemetery, Columbus at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 31.

A special heartfelt thank you to the hospice staff.

Kirk A. Straseskie
Marine Sgt. Kirk A. Straseskie, 23, Beaver Dam, died on Monday, May 19, 2003, while serving his country near Karbala, Iraq.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, May 28, 2003, at 11 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Beaver Dam. The Rev. William Key will officiate. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens in the town of Trenton.

Friends may call at the Murray Community Funeral Home in Beaver Dam on Tuesday, May 27, from 4 to 8 p.m.

Rhoda Vande Zande
WAUPUN - Rhoda Vande Zande, 84, of Waupun, died on Friday, May 23, 2003, at the Christian Home, Waupun.

Rhoda was born on Nov. 30, 1918, in the town of Alto, the daughter of Henry and Minnie Bruhn Hull. She was a graduate of the Waupun High School Class of 1936, and received her degree as a registered nurse from St. Agnes School of Nursing in Fond du Lac.

On Oct. 14, 1944, she married Harold Vande Zande in Alto. Following their marriage the couple resided in the Waupun area all of their married life. Rhoda served as a missionary nurse at Annville Institute in Annville, Ky. for two years. She was later employed at Waupun Memorial Hospital for 30 years from where she retired. She was an active member of the First Reformed Church in Waupun.

She is survived by her husband, Harold Vande Zande of Waupun; one daughter, Ruth (Larry) Redeker of Hartford; two sons, Ton Vande Zande and Du Anne Hagerty of Milwaukee and John (Linda) Vande Zande of Fond du Lac; 10 grandchildren; two sisters, Marion Hull of Sun City, Ariz., and Margaret Neevel of Waupun; two sisters in law, Gertrude Hull of Waupun and Loraine Prange of Waupun.

She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Dr. Harmon Hull, Carl G. Hull and Kenneth Hull.

Funeral services for Rhoda Vande Zande will be held on Monday at 1 p.m. at the Werner Harmsen Funeral Home in Waupun. The Rev. Thomas Duabenspeck will officiate. Burial will take place at Forest Mound cemetery in Waupun. Friends and relatives of Rhoda Vande Zande may call at the Werner-Harmsen Funeral home on Monday from 11 a.m. the time of the service at 1 p.m.

Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home is serving the family.

Jerry L. Kuehl
COLUMBUS - Jerry L. Kuehl, 51, of rural Columbus, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 22, 2003, at St Mary’s Hospital, Madison, surrounded by his loving family.

There will be no service.

Jerry was born on May 30, 1951, in Columbus, the son of Clarence and Hazel Kuehl. He was married to Marsha Moore on July 4, 1981, in the town of Hampden.

Jerry was a 1969 graduate of Columbus High School and a graduate of UW-LaCrosse. He was employed at American Packaging in Columbus since 1975. He loved the outdoors, gardening, music and his family.

Survivors include his wife, Marsha, Columbus; one daughter, Brooke (Nathan) Morauske, Fall River; one son, Jesse, at home; his mother, Hazel Kuehl, Columbus; one brother, Terry (Denise) Kuehl, Fall River; one sister, Carol Lange, Columbus; Marsha’s family, Irene Moore, Terry (Pat) Moore, Ralph Moore, Nancy (Bob) Miller; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father; one brother-in-law, John Lange, and his father-in-law, Wayne Moore.

Friends may call at the Jones-Jensen Funeral Home, Columbus from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday May 25, 2003.

Interment will be in Hillside cemetery, Columbus.

Eugene F. Deniger Sr.
Eugene F. Deniger Sr., 80, of Beaver Dam, died peacefully on Tuesday, May 20, 2003, at his home.

It was his wish to be cremated. A memorial gathering and celebration of his life will be held on Friday, May 23, from 5 to 7 p.m., at the Murray Community Funeral Home, Beaver Dam. At 7 p.m., the Rev. Emmanuel Udo will lead a brief memorial service.

Eugene Fredrick Deniger was born in Beaver Dam on Sept. 25, 1922, the son of Fredrick and Agnes (Frank) Deniger. He attended St. Peter's Catholic Grade School and graduated from Beaver Dam High School in 1940.

Eugene worked at Monarch Range in Beaver Dam and hauled milk for Kraft Foods. In 1966, he started his own bulk milk trucking business and hauled milk for NFO. He retired in 1993. He had a love of music throughout his life and played both the clarinet and the saxophone. In his younger days, he played in a band. His love of big band music stayed with him throughout his life. He was a die-hard Packers fan for years and also loved Notre Dame football. He loved horses and dogs and was an avid reader.

Survivors include six daughters, Sandy (Louis) Wolff, Randolph, Pamela Gilliam, Nashville, Tenn., Kathi (Dan) Trejo, Beaver Dam, Rhonda (Westy) Westover, Beaver Dam, Lisa (Gary) Wille, Horicon, and Tina (Brian) Kolar, Crystal Lake, Ill.; one son, Eugene (Carol) Deniger Jr., Wisconsin Dells; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one half-brother, Ken (Gloria) Waddell, Beaver Dam; one half-sister, Glenrose (Eugene) Czarneski, Beaver Dam; one brother-in-law, Vernon (Margaret) Bauman, Watertown; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Marge Maier and Marion Bauman.

The family suggests that memorials be made in Eugene F. Deniger's name to Hillside Hospice, Beaver Dam.

The Murray Community Funeral Home, Beaver Dam, is serving the family.

Hazel M. Mierow
Hazel M. Mierow, 81, of 600 W. Third St., Apt. 106, Beaver Dam, formerly of Fox Lake, died Monday, May 19, 2003, at the home of her daughter, Geraldine Voight, after a battle with lung cancer for eight months.

The funeral will be held on Thursday, May 22, at 1 p.m., at the Koepsell Funeral Home, Beaver Dam. The Rev. Jack Harle will officiate. Burial will be in the Randolph City cemetery, Randolph.

Hazel was born on Oct. 8, 1921, in Fox Lake, the daughter of Harvey and Eunice (Crain) Brooks. She was married to Lawrence E. Mierow Sr. on April 13, 1940, in Beaver Dam.

Hazel retired from Kolpin Manufacturing in Fox Lake, where she had been employed for 15 years. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Fox Lake, and a member of the Ladies Circle of the church. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family. She will forever be known as a person with a kind word and a great heart.

She will be sadly missed and mourned by one daughter, Geraldine H. (Donald R.) Voight, Beaver Dam; one daughter-in-law, Jean Mierow, Fox Lake; one sister, Betty Kraut, Juneau; eight grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 30 years, Lawrence; one son, Lawrence "Larry" Jr.; three brothers, Harold, Robert and Floyd; two sisters, Eleanore Behnisch and Alta Mae Calkins.

Friends may call on Thursday, May 22, from 11 a.m. until the time of service at 1 p.m., at the Koepsell Funeral Home, Beaver Dam.

Memorials may be directed to her daughter.

The Koepsell Funeral Home, 109 N. Lincoln Ave., Beaver Dam, is serving the family.

Greg L. Sefkar
BARABOO - Greg Lorin Sefkar, 24, of Baraboo, died on Sunday, May 19, 2003.

The funeral will be held on Friday, May 23, at 1 p.m., at the Walnut Hill Bible Church. The Rev. David Hutchens will officiate. Burial will be in Walnut Hill cemetery.

Greg was born on Oct. 16, 1978, in Baraboo, the son of Lorin and Judy (Tuttle) Sefkar.

Greg graduated from Baraboo High School and attended UW-Oshkosh. He worked for Christmas Mountain as a salesperson. He was a member of the Christmas Mountain Golf League. His sense of humor, kindness and love of children will be greatly missed by everyone that loved and cared for him.

Survivors include his fiancee, Sarah Sadoski, Baraboo; one son, Samuel Sadoski, Baraboo, and one son yet to be born, Vincent or Izabela; his mother, Judith Sefkar, Baraboo; Sarah's parents, Greg (De De) Sadoski, Randolph; Sarah's sister, Mike (Pam) Holseth, Menominee Falls; brothers and sisters, Scott Halweg, La Crosse, Stacie (fiance Ron Stieve) Halweg, Baraboo, Rick (Pat) Sefkar, Baraboo, Brian (Kim) Sefkar, Baraboo; nieces and nephews, Jacob, Jared and Jamie Weiland, Matthew (Tracey) Sefkar, Mark (Trista) Sefkar, Chelsea and Chase Sefkar, Sydney and Alexandria Holseth and great-niece, Makayla.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lorin, and one brother, Stephen Halweg.

Friends may call on Friday, May 23, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the Walnut Hill Bible Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.

Erna B. Borngraeber
HORICON - Erna B. Borngraeber, 83, of Horicon, died Sunday, May 18, 2003 at Victorian Villa, Horicon.

Funeral services will take place at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church, Horicon on Thursday, May 22, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Mark Hasty officiating.

Burial will take place at Oak Hill cemetery, Horicon.

Erna was born Jan. 8, 1920, in Mayville the daughter of Max and Meta (Lindert) Benzel.

She was married to Royce Borngraeber on Oct. 5, 1940, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Mayville.

Erna graduated from Mayville High School in 1937.

She retired from John Deere in Horicon.

She was a member of Zion Ev. Lutheran Church, Horicon.

Survivors include three sisters, Julia (Fred) Hanneman, Waupun, Mildred (Verlin) Wegner, Horicon, Maxine Heintz of Beaver Dam; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Royce in 1973.

Visitation will take place at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church on Thursday, May 22, from 9 to 11 a.m.

Memorials may be directed to Zion Ev. Lutheran Church Building Fund.

Koepsell Funeral Home, Mayville, is serving the family.

Hedwig M. Pluedeman
MAYVILLE - Hedwig M. Pluedeman, 93, of Mayville, died Saturday, May 17, 2003, at the Mayville Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

Funeral service will be Thursday, May 22, at 1 p.m. from St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church, Mayville, with the Rev. Edward Blonski officiating. Burial will take place at Zion Lutheran cemetery, Town of Theresa.

Hedwig was born Jan. 15, 1910, in the Town of Theresa, the daughter of Albert and Anna (Callies) Pribnow. She was married to Erich Pluedeman on Dec. 18, 1935, in Fond du Lac.

Hedwig was a member of St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church, Mayville and a former member of Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in the Town of Theresa. She was a charter member of the Theresa American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include two children, Roland (Dorothy) Schroeder, Horicon, Russell (Lorraine) Pluedeman, Kekoskee; seven grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Erich, in 1974 and two sisters.

Visitation will be on Thursday, May 22 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church, Mayville.

Koepsell Funeral Home, Mayville, is serving the family.
