Marion J. Byers
TOMAHAWK - Marion J. Byers (nee Kosanke) of Tomahawk, formerly of Pewaukee, was born to eternal life Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2000, at the age of 73.

She was the loving wife of Deloyd; dear mother of Diane Smith of Waukesha, Donna (Gary) Edwards of Delafield and Jean (Jim Hicks) Williams of Waukesha; proud grandmother of Dana Smith of Milwaukee, Paul Smith, United States Marine Corps, Okinawa, Mark Edwards of Okauchee, Dean Williams of Waukesha and Linda Williams of Waukesha; fond sister of Ellen (William) Schlesner of Pewaukee; and special sister-in-law to Calvin and Carolyn Byers of Pewaukee.

Marion was a member of Gethsemane United Methodist Church in Pewaukee and an avid fan of the Milwaukee Bucks, following every game.

Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 27, at the Yonke & Son Funeral Home in Pewaukee. The Rev. William McBride will officiate. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Interment will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 28, at Forest Hill cemetery in Pewaukee; please meet at the cemetery.

Howard Van Altena
WAUKESHA - Longtime Waukesha resident, Howard Van Altena, died at Waukesha Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2000, at the age of 74.

Howard was a charter member of St. William Catholic Church and the former co-owner of Lithoprint Company in Waukesha. He retired in 1988.

He is the beloved husband of Bernadette "Peg" Van Altena, whom he married on June 26, 1948 in Milwaukee, and the dear father of John (Judy) Van Altena of West Allis and Judith (Wayne) Conrad of Waukesha. He is the dear grandfather of Carrie and Matthew Conrad, Kim and Paul Van Altena and Alyssa and Carly Van Altena. He is also survived by his brother, Norman Van Altena of Menomonee Falls, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Mark, in 1986.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, at St. William Catholic Church; Fr. Leonard Barbian will celebrate Mass. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 25, at the Cesarz, Charapata & Zinnecker Funeral Home on Moreland Boulevard; a parish vigil will be held at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue on Saturday at the funeral home from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. Interment will be in St. Joseph cemetery.

Memorials to either The American Heart Association or St. William Catholic Church would be appreciated.

Lawrence F. Beres
NEW BERLIN - Lawrence F. Beres of New Berlin was born to eternal life Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2000, at the age of 67.

He was the loving father of Marie Beres, Albert (Becky), Mathias (Sheryl), Thomas (Patti), Margaret (John) Unger, Jean (Gary) Weir and Mark Beres. He is also loved by his 18 grandchildren, sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Larry was a lifelong employee of New Berlin Readi Mix and a lifetime member of the New Berlin Sno-Hawks. Larry enjoyed his summers and friends at the cottage.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 28, at Holy Apostles Catholic Church, 16000 W. National Ave., New Berlin, until the time of the funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to Holy Apostles Endowment Fund are appreciated.

Nancy Ruth Buck
MUKWONAGO - Nancy Ruth Buck of Mukwonago passed away Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2000, at the age of 50.

Nancy was born in Morrison, Ill., on April 1, 1950, to Frederick and Genevieve (nee Specht) Waldbusser. She was a 1968 graduate of Prophetstown High School and then went on to receive her bachelor’s degree in education from Illinois State University in 1971. On Aug. 19, 1972, Nancy married John P. Buck.

Nancy taught school in Illinois, Georgia and Wisconsin, and was currently teaching at Waukesha County Technical College. She enjoyed birdwatching, gardening, sewing, crafts and reading.

Survivors include her husband, John; her daughter Amy, of Minneapolis, Minn.; her son, Nathan, of Mukwonago; her mother, Genevieve Waldbusser of Prophetstown, Ill.; her sister, Vickie Waldbusser of Prophetstown; her father and mother-in-law, Elmer and Naomi Buck of Prophetstown; a brother-in-law, Thomas (Janice) Buck of Kewaunee; a sister-in-law, Jean Buck of St. Louis, Mo.; two nephews, Eric and Ryan Buck of Kewaunee; other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Frederick Waldbusser.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. today, Aug. 26, at the Schmidt & Bartelt-Van Valin Funeral Home, 315 Main St., Mukwonago. Friends may call after 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

There will also be a visitation held from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 27, at the Gibson Funeral Home in Prophetstown. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 28, at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Prophetstown, followed by the burial at Riverside cemetery.

Memorials to Sinnissippi Centers Inc., Woodlawn Drive, Sterling, Ill., would be appreciated.

Thomas E. DeSantis
WAUKESHA - Waukesha resident Thomas E. DeSantis died Thursday, Aug. 24, 2000, at his home at the age of 85. He was born in Lorville on Aug. 3, 1915, to Angelo and Angeline (nee Levis) DeSantis. On June 6, 1936, he married the former Freda Parsons in Belvidere, Ill.

Mr. DeSantis had been employed by Waukesha Motor Co. before proudly serving his country in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1945 in the Philippines. Following his discharge from the service he became the owner/operator of Tackle Tavern in Waukesha. His other work history includes: Waukesha Rubber, cab driver, Gambles, the boys’ school on Prairie Avenue and Miller Brewing Co., where he retired in 1975. He was a charter member of St. Williams Catholic Church and a member of Milwaukee Brewery Workers. He loved to golf, a sport in which he made a hole-in-one, and loved to bowl. He bowled for Miller Brewery and had a high 700 series as a senior.

He will be sadly missed by his wife, Freda, along with their children, Diane (John) Steinke of Mukwonago and David DeSantis of Waukesha. He was the proud grandfather of Jesse and Rhonda Steinke of Mukwonago; and dear brother of Marie Weatherall and Chester "John" (Audrey) DeSantis, both of Waukesha. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends further survive. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sons, Thomas in 1943 and Terry in 1946; his brothers, John and Frank; and his sister, Josephine Dascenzo.

No formal services will be held. Masses to St. Williams Catholic Church are appreciated.

Gerald H. Maxwell
SUSSEX - Gerald H. Maxwell, 51, of Sussex, died Thursday, Aug. 24, 2000.

He was the loving husband of Kathie (nee Trost); father of Marcie (Terry) Fox and Clinton Maxwell (loving friend, Brooke Pavloski); dear son of Harry and Florence Maxwell; brother of Chuck (Mary) Maxwell, Andy (Andrea) Maxwell and Bonnie (Mark) Wellnitz; uncle of Jessica, Quentin, EmaLee, Oliva, Samantha and Georgette; and son-in-law of Leo and Liz Trost. He is further survived by other relatives and friends.

Jerry was employed at the Eaton Corp. for 25 years and was a Vietnam veteran.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 27, at the Schmidt & Bartelt A.A. Schmidt & Sons Funeral Home, highways 164 and VV, Sussex. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 28, at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Summit cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family are appreciated.

Deane F. Rude
WAUKESHA - Deane F. Rude of Waukesha died Aug. 24, 2000. He was born Oct. 1, 1928, in Mount Horeb.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; his children, Steven (Jaynelle) of Duarte, Calif., Thomas of Menomonee Falls, Jennifer Klett (Jon) of Menomonee Falls and James (Jenny) of Wales; and his grandsons, Alex and Kyle Klett.

Deane spent his working years as a sales and marketing professional in the motor carrier field, spending many years with Robertson Transportation in Madison and Clairmont Transfer in Escanaba, Mich., and Milwaukee.

Burial will be private.

The best memorial to Deane would be to support your local humane society.

James B. Thill
WAUKESHA - James B. Thill of Waukesha passed away Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2000, at the age of 65.

He was the loving father of Ann (Walter) Pullen of Clarksburg, N.J., Suzanne (Rod) Gallegos of Littleton, Colo., and William C. Thill of California; proud grandfather of Michael, Nicholas and Kathryn; and dear brother of Marion (Stanley) Nowak of Santa Barbara, Calif., Helen (Raymond) Archambault of Cudahy and Conrad (Angeline) Thill of South Milwaukee. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The Mass of Christian Burial for James will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 28, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 225 S. Hartwell Ave., corner of Newhall and Hartwell avenues, Waukesha. The Rev. Gordon Weber will be the celebrant. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service Monday. A private family interment will be at Southern Wisconsin Veteran’s cemetery.

Samson Sing Arreola
WAUKESHA - Samson Sing Arreola, 52, of Waukesha died Thursday, Aug. 24, 2000, at Fairview University Hospital in Minneapolis. He was born April 25, 1948, in Honolulu, the son of Delfin and Margaret (Akiona) Arreola. Sam was a member of First United Methodist Church and taught Sunday school at the church. He was a former member of the Community of the Living Spirit, softball coach for the Waukesha Parks and Recreation Department and assistant Scout leader of Troop 82. Sam formed a nonprofit agency called SR & RR and was the administrator for group homes in Milwaukee and Waukesha counties.

Sam will be sadly missed by his wife, Jan, whom he married on July 31, 1971, in Morton Grove, Ill. He was the loving father of Lyn of Wauwatosa, Brian of Minneapolis and Malia, Brad and Courtney of Waukesha; the dear son of Delfin Sr. and Margaret Arreola of Washington; son-in-law of Mildred Truesdale of Florida; brother of Maurice (Maria Carla) Arreola of Italy and Delfin Jr. (Linda) Arreola of Washington. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Sam will be held at 7:30 p.m. today, Aug. 28, 2000, at First United Methodist Church, 121 Wisconsin Ave. in Waukesha. The Rev. Frank Gaylord will officiate. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until the time of the service at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the church. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 29, at Prairie Home cemetery. Meet in front of the cemetery office.

Florence Bauer
WAUKESHA - Florence Bauer, 86, died Friday, Aug. 25, 2000, at Waukesha Memorial Hospital. She was born in Bear Creek on Oct. 17, 1913, to August and Lucille (nee Stone) Liepke. On June 13, 1935, she married Raymond Bauer; together they operated the family dairy farm on the corner of Center and Lawnsdale roads. He preceded her in death in 1976. Mrs. Bauer was a charter member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church and was a member of the Oakdale Homemakers Club.

She will be sadly missed by her children, Jean (Ralph) Shapiro of Redondo Beach, Calif.; Margaret (Tony) Calavitta of Milwaukee, Lloyd (Judy) Bauer of Odgensburg, Audrey (William) VandenBush of Mukwonago, Geraldine (David) Brisk of Waukesha and Gale (Kathy) Bauer of Mauston; 15 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. She is further survived by two brothers, Kenneth Liepke of Stetsonville and Raymond Liepke of Owen; her sister, Dolores (John) Bacon of Owen; and other relatives and friends.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 29, at Randle-Dable Funeral Home, 1110 S. Grand Ave., Waukesha, with a parish vigil service at 7 p.m. Services will continue at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30, with prayers at the funeral home and then to St. John Neumann Catholic Church for the funeral Mass at 11 a.m. The Rev. Glen Graczyk is officiating. Graveside services will follow at Prairie Home cemetery.

Warren G. Harding
TOWN OF WAUKESHA - Warren G. Harding, 77, died Thursday, Aug. 24, 2000, at his home. He was born in Oklahoma on Jan. 25, 1923, to the late Guy Carlton and Lydia (nee Alexander) Harding. He had been employed at General Castings for 31 years and had also worked at Borden Dairy and Spring City Foundry.

He is survived by his son, Stanley (Fern) Harding of Waukesha; his daughter, Delphine (Al) Alexander of Mesa, Ariz.; two grandchildren, Allen David Alexander of Mesa, Ariz., and Michelle Alexander of Oak Creek; and four great-grandchildren, Sam, Max, Katrina and Hayley. He is further survived by his brother, Henry (Doris) Travis of Kansas; and his sisters, Mary Jane (Fred) Dreger of Waukesha, Lydia May Harding of Oklahoma and Loretta Travis-Miller of Kansas. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Angeline Harding, on Aug. 6, 2000.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the 11 a.m. service Tuesday, Aug. 29, at Randle-Dable Funeral Home, 1110 S. Grand Ave., Waukesha. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph cemetery.

James E. Heffner
WAUKESHA - James E. Heffner of Waukesha died Friday, Aug. 25, 2000, at the age of 52.

He was the loving husband of LaVerne (nee Lipke); dear father of Sherry, Derek and J. R. Heffner; dear grandfather of Jose Heffner; dear brother of Mark (Millie), Dianne, Rodger, Judy, Ken, Eugene, Mike, John and Brian Heffner; and dear son-in-law of Leland Lipke and Ruth (Merritt) Safford. He is further survived by other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Jean Klein.

Visitation will be held after noon Tuesday, Aug. 29, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 300 Carroll St., Waukesha. Funeral services will follow at 1:30 p.m. Interment will be at Prairie Home cemetery.

Raymond Albert Hittman
WAUKESHA - Raymond Albert Hittman of Waukesha died Friday, Aug. 25, 2000, at The Waters of Westmoreland at the age of 87. Raymond retired in 1988 from Waukesha Cutting Tool. He was a member of the Elks Club 400 and a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church.

Raymond will be deeply missed by his wife, Mary (nee Crowley), whom he married June 15, 1940; his children, Alice (Theodore) Preiser of East Troy, Ann (William) Streeter of Lewiston, Idaho, William (Ann) of Sheboygan, Sheila (John) Flores of Albuquerque, N.M., and James (Laurie) of Elk Mound; and his sister-in-law, Alvina Hittman of Sheboygan. He is further survived by 22 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.

Memorial services for Raymond will be held at 6 p.m. today, Aug. 28, at St. John Neumann Catholic Church; the Rev. Glenn Graczyk will officiate. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until the time of the Mass at 6 p.m. at the church.

Edith E. Waggershauser
WAUKESHA - Edith E. Waggershauser, 89, of Waukesha died Thursday, Aug. 24, 2000, at Waukesha Memorial Hospital. She was born Oct. 2, 1910, in Sheboygan, a daughter of the late August and Elizabeth (nee Groh) Wilson.

Edith graduated from Milwaukee State Teachers College for Special Education in 1932. She taught school in the Third Ward district in Milwaukee. On March 27, 1937, she married Helmuth Theodore Karl Waggershauser, whom she had met at Helmuth’s 18th birthday party in 1928. The couple moved to a farm in Waukesha in 1946. Helmuth ran a consulting business behind the house.

They never left each other’s side. Helmuth preceded her in death on May 11, 1998; they were married for 61 years.

Edith is survived by her daughter Sue Waggershauser of Waukesha, granddaughter Mya Waggershauser of Waukesha, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Edith was preceded in death by her husband, parents and sister, Laura Krause.

There will be no service or visitation. Private graveside services for Edith were held at Highland Memorial Park in New Berlin.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Edith’s name may be directed to the Humane Animal Welfare Society of Waukesha County (H.A.W.S.), 701 Northview Road, Waukesha, WI 53188.
