Carl J. Hahn
SPARTA - Carl J. Hahn, 77, formerly of Waukesha and retired from the Veterans Affairs Administration, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000. Carl is survived by two sisters, Beatrice Poss of Sparta and Dorothy Maynard of Marshall, Ill. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois, and sisters, Florence Hahn and Evelyn Waters.

Carl is survived by three children, Rodney (Susan) Hahn of Sparta, Carol Grosskopf of Waukesha and Mary (Thomas) Reilly of Eagle. Carl is further survived by six grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 419 Jefferson Ave., Sparta, on Friday, December 15. The wake is scheduled at 9 a.m., with the funeral to follow at 11 a.m. Following the services, a luncheon will be provided at the church.

John F. Ferraro-Browning
MILWAUKEE - John F. Ferraro-Browning, beloved son of Katie Ferraro and Alan Browning, was delivered stillborn Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000.

He is lovingly survived by his grandparents, Frank and Jane Ferraro of Milwaukee and Robert and Shirley Browning of Pewaukee; and his great-grandparents, Lori Gefroh of Milwaukee, A.J. and Ona Ferraro of Milwaukee and Bertha Gill of Burlington.

Services for John will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 15, at Forest Home cemetery Chapel, 2405 W. Forest Home Ave., Milwaukee. Relatives and friends will be received for visitation from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at the chapel.

Ralph A. Thompson
OCONOMOWOC - Ralph A. Thompson died peacefully Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000, at Shorehaven Health Care Center at age 84. He was born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, on January 8, 1916.

Ralph was retired from Ethan Allen Boys School and also owned London Luggage and Gifts in West Allis. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

He was the beloved husband of Genevieve (nee Heim) for 61 years; they were married May 25, 1939. He was the loving father of Dennis (Angie) of Harshaw, Ron (Sue) of Pewaukee, Karen (Bob) Gartzke of Sullivan, Mary (Rick) Rice of Oconomowoc and Jim (Mary) of Harshaw; 18 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15, at St. Mary’s Help of Christians Catholic Church; a Mass will follow visitation. A private family burial will be held.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Mary’s Help of Christians Catholic Church Building Fund, W856 Highway 18, Sullivan, WI 53178, or Shorehaven Health Care Center in Oconomowoc are appreciated.

The family greatly appreciated the loving care of the Shorehaven staff during Ralph’s illness.

Daniel D. Toporek
PEWAUKEE - Daniel D. Toporek was born to eternal life Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, at the age of 75.

He was the loving father of Kathleen (Ron) Cochenet of Kewaskum, David (Susan) Toporek of Waukesha, Patricia (William) Mather of Waukesha and Lynda Toporek of West Allis. He was the fond brother of Audrey (John) Sindic of Pewaukee and the best friend of Richard Brownell. He is further survived by 12 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, other relatives and friends.

Dan loved to read and cook, often boasting that he made the best chili.

Visitation and funeral services were held today, Dec. 14, at Yonke & Son Funeral Home; the Rev. William McBride officiated. Interment at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial cemetery in Union Grove.

Frieda E. Alexander
BROOKFIELD - Frieda E. Alexander (nee Smith) was born to eternal life Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2000, at the age of 93. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lee Alexander.

She was the dear mother of the late Robert (Beatrice) and William (Patricia) Alexander, and is further survived by six sisters, eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held after 5:30 p.m. today, Dec. 15, at Reformation Lutheran Church, 915 Adelmann Ave., Brookfield; funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. Interment will be at Greenbrier cemetery in Bagley, Iowa.

Joan M. ‘Sue’ Bouley
PEWAUKEE - Joan M. "Sue" Bouley, 71, passed away Dec. 11, 2000. She was the dear mother of Lynn (Coleen) and Ron, grandmother of Matthew, Josh and Josiah, sister of Janis Sieh and sister-in-law of Peggy Shoemaker.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Don, and daughter-in-law, Sue.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, W188-N4868 Emerald Hills Drive, Menomonee Falls. Visitation will be held at the church from 2 p.m until the time of the service.

Mary C. Marconi
WAUKESHA - Lifelong Waukesha County resident Mary C. Marconi died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000, at The Waters of Westmoreland Health Care Center at age 88. Mary was born in the town of Pewaukee on Dec. 23, 1911, the daughter of Luigi and Bernice (nee Guerino) Miletti.

Mary is a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Waukesha. She retired from Waukesha Rubber after 25 years of service.

She is the dear mother of Phyllis (Joseph) McDonald and Michael (Mary) Marconi, both of Waukesha. She is the dear grandmother of Jeanne (Don) Gwinn, Joseph McDonald, Lisa (Allen) Smith, Kelly McDonald, Michael Marconi and Trish Marconi. Mary is the great-grandmother of Rebecca Gwinn. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Mike M. Marconi, who died June 29, 1970; and her brothers, Anthony and Julius Miletti.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 18, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Waukesha; The Rev. Gordon Weber will celebrate Mass. Friends may call from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 17, at Cesarz, Charapata & Zinnecker Funeral Home on Moreland Boulevard. A parish vigil will be held at 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Interment will be in St. Joseph cemetery.

William C. Pohl
WATERFORD - William C. Pohl, 62, of Waterford, formerly of Waukesha, died Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, at Froedtert Hospital in Wauwatosa. William was born Nov. 11, 1938, in Milwaukee, the son of the late Rudoph and Margaret Pohl. He graduated from Rufus King High School in Milwaukee and went to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He had worked at Vickers Corp. in Wauwatosa as a marketing engineer and retired in 1990. William loved woodworking, cooking, gardening, music and traveling. He was a caring individual who was sensitive. He would chat with everyone and would also like to help his fellow man. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Robert Pohl.

William is survived by his three children, Steven Pohl of Waukesha, Christine (Dave) Barcus of Eagan, Minn., and Sarah (Trent) Armour of Muskego, along with two grandchildren, Lauren and Taylor Barcus, both of Eagan. William is also survived by his dear friend, Karen Pohl of Waukesha.

A memorial service for William will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, at Christ the Servant Lutheran Church, W250-S3635 Center Road (Center Road and Highway 59), Waukesha. The Rev. Richard Engen, pastor of the church, will be the officiant. Friends may call at the church on Saturday at the time of the service.

Anita E. Hoffman
NEW BERLIN - Anita E. Hoffman died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000, at the age of 89.

She was the loving wife and friend of the late Alfred Hoffman, and the loving mother of David (Edna), the late Douglas (Karen Tomich), James (Judith), Theodore (Nancy), Brian Hoffman and Janet (David) Robertson. She was the dear sister of Howard (Dorothy) Losse of Appleton; sister-in-law of Ann (the late Lloyd) Hoffman; and is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 18, at Calvary Community Church, 4895 S. Calhoun Road, followed by funeral services at 7 p.m. Interment will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 19, at Highland Memorial Park; please meet at the cemetery.

Anita was a charter and active member of Calvary Community Church, was active at Prospect Hill PTA and Scouting, and served on the New Berlin Health Council.

Ernst H. Schaefer
WAUKESHA - Ernst H. Schaefer, born Jan. 21, 1932, the son of Ernest and Grace Schaefer, died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2000, at the age of 68. He graduated from Waukesha High School where he was a class officer and multiple athletic letter winner. He attended Carroll College. He was a B-52 crew member in the Air Force. He retired as a major in 1971 after 20 years of service. He was an avid golfer with six hole-in-ones and represented the Air Force in many golf tournaments worldwide. He owned Ernie’s Golf Shop and was a Waukesha businessman for many years. He was a member of The Waukesha Rotary Club. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Joyce (Jim) Rizzo; and his sister-in-law, Carol Schaefer.

He will be sadly missed by his wife, Suzanne, whom he married on Aug. 3, 1957; his children, Lee Ann (David) Overman of Stillwater, Minn., Thomas (Maribeth) Schaefer of Waukesha, Barbara (Khristopher) Kleiner of Oconomowoc, Kim Schaefer of Sumter, S.C., Dawn (William) Hinzey of Delafield and Robert (Annie) Schaefer of Pewaukee; his brothers and sisters, Rocky Schaefer and La Mont (Lu Ann) Schaefer, both of Waukesha, Marian (Tom) Foster of Sumter, S.C., Jeannie (Lonnie) Nowak of Long Lake, Judy (Bill) Holland of Waukesha and Shirley (Herb) Schultz of Pembine; and his grandchildren, Maggie and Abbie Overman, Caitlin, Danica and Kierrin Schaefer and Mary, David and Katie Hinzey. He will also be missed by many friends and relatives.

Funeral services for Ernie will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, at St. William’s Catholic Church on Moreland Boulevard in Waukesha; Pastor John Nehs will officiate. Visitation will be held on Saturday at the Cesarz, Charapata & Zinnecker Funeral Home from 10 a.m. until the 1:30 p.m. procession to the church for the services. Entombment will take place at St. Joseph’s Catholic cemetery.

Marguerite L. Svanoe
WAUKESHA - Marguerite L. Svanoe, 98, of Waukesha, formerly of Milwaukee, died Friday, Dec. 15, 2000, at the Virginia Health Care Center. She was born in Milwaukee on June 12, 1902, the daughter of Peter and Hulda (nee Teschan) Andersen.

Marguerite was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she received her degree in English. She was a member of Kappa Delta and Phi Beta Kappa. Marguerite was a popular teacher at Roosevelt Jr. High School in Milwaukee, where Ben Barkin was one of her students. She was a member of the Women’s Literary Club for over 50 years and had served as its president.

Marguerite is survived by her daughters, Sylvia (Jim) Cross and Signy (Tom) Smith, both of Waukesha; by her brother-in-law, Ferdinand (Jean) Svanoe and her sister-in-law, Lorraine Svanoe; and by six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Haakon Svanoe, in 1966.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 18, at the Rudolph-Larsen Bros. Funeral Home, 500 N. East Ave., Waukesha. Friends may call at the funeral home from 12:30 p.m. Monday until the time of the funeral service. Burial will follow at Valhalla Memorial Gardens in Milwaukee.

Marguerite will be missed by everyone whose lives she touched.

Margaret ‘Bonnie’ L. Crook
WAUKESHA - Margaret "Bonnie" L. Crook, of Waukesha, died Friday, Dec. 15, 2000, at Waukesha Memorial Hospital at age 59.

Bonnie was born Sept. 24, 1941, in Holly Springs, Miss., the daughter of Thomas and Lettie (nee Cox) Howell.

She married Paul Crook on Dec. 31, 1960. She was a member of the Grace Bible Church in Oconomowoc for 27 years and the Awana Youth Group at church for 23 years. She was known and loved as "Aunt Bonnie" by the many young people she ministered to through the years.

Survivors include her husband, Paul; her son, Keith of Waukesha; her mother, Lettie Howell; and her nephew, Tom Elsea of Milwaukee.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20, at Grace Bible Church, 3991 N. Silver Lake Road, Oconomowoc. The Rev. Michael Hendricks will officiate. Friends may call at the church from 11 a.m. until the 2 p.m. funeral service at the church. Burial will be in Wisconsin Memorial Park, Brookfield.

Memorials are suggested to The American Heart Association.

Lorraine M. Zahn
BROOKFIELD - Lorraine M. (nee Rommel) Zahn died Friday, Dec. 15, 2000, at age 85.

She is the beloved wife of Harvey Zahn, now deceased, and the loving mother of Terry (Jean) Zahn, who is also deceased. She is the dear sister of Theresa Ruebl, Leone Schmidt, Irene (Merle) Vick and Jeanette (Charles) Zern. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends here and in Virginia Beach, Va.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 5 p.m. today, Dec. 18, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 822 N. East Ave. Visitation will take place from 4 p.m. until the time of the service at the church. Interment will be at Lincoln Memorial Park.

Lorraine and her son, Terry, were very active in the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. They were very instrumental in making this event grow across the nation. Lorraine will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

If desired, in lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church or the American Cancer Society are appreciated.

Shirley J. Cesar
MAUSTON - Shirley J. Cesar, 66, died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000, at Hess Memorial Hospital in Mauston.

She enjoyed her grandchildren, sewing, fishing and playing cards. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.

She is survived by five children, Dennis (Patty) Yeager of Dillingham, Alaska, Debbie Yeager of Mauston, Michael (Kathleen) Yeager of Bigerville, Pa., Daniel (Lisa) Yeager of Cornell and William Yeager of Mukwonago; two stepsons, Michael (Lana) Cesar of Whitewater and William (Charmain) Cesar of East Troy; a sister, Joan Lobotzke of Arkdale; 21 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Isabelle; her stepfather, William Franke; her husband, Ronald Cesar, in 1997; and a brother.

Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20, at the Crandall Funeral Home, 123 Elm St., Mauston. Friends may call from 6 p.m. until the 8 p.m. service.
