Ralph Edgar Ward
WAUKESHA - Waukesha resident Ralph Edgar Ward, 83, died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2000, at his residence. Born on Oct. 28, 1917, in Waukesha, to Ralph C. and Mary (nee Herbrand) Ward. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. On Dec. 9, 1942, he married the former Ellen "Pat" Olson in Fargo, N.D. Mr. Ward had been a postal worker employed by the Waukesha Post Office from 1950 until his retirement in 1979. He had been a member of the American Postal Workers Union APWU-AFLCIO, and also a member of the Will Rogers American Legion Post #539 in Los Angeles.

He will be sadly missed by his wife of 57 years, Ellen "Pat" Ward, along with their children, John Ward and Harriet Pendleton, both of Waukesha. Dear grandfather of Bertwood (special friend, Becky Lavoie) Pendleton of Redwood Falls, Minn., and Dale (Jamie) Pendleton of Pewaukee. Loving great-grandfather of Autumn Pendleton and Stephanie Brimmer, both of Pewaukee. Beloved friend of Richard (Shirley) Buechler and Dave (Mary Jane) Hopf. Further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Friends may call from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1, at Randle-Dable Funeral Home, 1110 S. Grand Ave. Funeral services will take place at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 2, at the funeral home, followed by the graveside service at Prairie Home cemetery with the Rev. William Humphreys officiating.

Donald E. Gross
HARTLAND - Donald E. Gross, of Hartland, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000, at the age of 69.

He was the loving father of Deborah (Michael) Wiegelman of Pewaukee, Mark of Hartland, Donna of Hartland, Steven of Rubicon and Scott (Ranay) of Hartland; dear grandfather of Daniel, Randy and Robert Wiegelman and Tyler and Jarret Gross; and fond brother of Cecilia (Richard) Schulteis of Beaver Dam. He is further survived by other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth, two brothers, three sisters and two grandsons.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 5, at the Luko-Evert Funeral Home, 170 Warren Ave., Hartland, with Rev. Steve Ristow officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from noon until the time of the services. Burial will be at Hartland Lutheran cemetery.

Dr. Owen E. Miller
WAUKESHA - Waukesha resident Dr. Owen E. Miller, 78, died Sunday, Oct. 29, 2000, at Waukesha Memorial Hospital. He was born May 4, 1922, in Chicago, Ill., to Edward V. and Catherine (nee Fardy) Miller. Dr. Miller proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the South Pacific aboard the USS Oberon. On May 4, 1949, he married the former Mary Margaret Blewett in Long Beach, Calif. He had been one of the founders of the Unitarian Universalist Church West in Brookfield. During his career, he was a doctor of orthopedic medicine with Kritter, Desch and Miller for more than 20 years at Waukesha Memorial Hospital. He was proud of his 30-year service on the board and executive committee of Wisconsin Physicians Service Insurance Company (WPS). He loved his family, including Brussels Griffin Casey; his work; and traveling, especially to Appalachia, Spain and London. He enjoyed the theater and reading. He was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers and progressive politics.

He will be sadly missed by his daughter, Catherine T. Miller of Milwaukee; his sister, Nancy (Charlie) Press of East Lansing, Mich.; his sister-in-law, Joan Miller of Illinois; other relatives and many, many friends worldwide. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Margaret Miller, on April 24, 1995; his beloved son, John, who was a brilliant pianist in classics and jazz; and his brother, Robert.

A memorial luncheon in his name will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, with comments at 2 p.m. at the Country Inn Hotel, I-94 and County T in Pewaukee.

In lieu of flowers, the best memorial to Dr. Owen Edward Miller would be to vote for Al Gore for president and/or memorial gifts to the Wisconsin Community Fund, the Alliance for the Mentally Ill, the Wisconsin Public Library or Wisconsin Public Radio.

Della M. Nickel
WAUKESHA - Della M. Nickel, 93, died Thursday, Nov. 2, 2000, at the Woodland Health Center in Brookfield. She was born April 5, 1907, in Pepin County, the daughter of William and Effie (nee Coen) Books.

Della was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Waukesha and was active in The Caring Place.

She is the dear mother of Doris (Tony) Scrima and Trudy (Phillip) Jones, all of Waukesha; the mother-in-law of Mildred Nickel of Waukesha; grandmother of Susan (James) Schnabl, Dawn (Fred) Hopfinger, Dale R. (fiancee Jessie) Nickel, Dirk (Jill) Nickel, Rick (Patricia) Scrima, Tina (Gregg) Szafranski, and Cheryl (Michael) Smith. Also surviving are 15 great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends. Della was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond; sons Dale, Raymond and Donald; twin brother, Dallas, as well as other brothers and sisters; granddaughter Lynn Scrima Dries; great-grandson Jay Michael Schnabl and daughter-in-law June Nickel.

Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 6, at Cesarz, Charapata & Zinnecker Funeral Home. They will proceed to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Waukesha at 10 a.m. The Rev. Michael Michalski will celebrate Mass. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 5, at the Cesarz, Charapata & Zinnecker Funeral Home on Moreland Boulevard. A parish vigil will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in St. Joseph cemetery.

Memorials to Odyssey Hospice Program or to the Alzheimer’s Association would be appreciated.

Wesley J. Pence
TOWN OF SUMMIT - Wesley J. Pence, 86, of the town of Summit, died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000, at his home.

Wesley was born in Burlington on April 9, 1914, and served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He was a food broker and the former owner of W.J. Pence Co. in Waukesha, and was also the former owner of Top Travel Service of Oconomowoc. Wesley was a member of Westbrook Church.

He is survived by his son, John (Kathleen) Pence of the town of Summit; his stepchildren, Sallie (Lee) Landers of St. Louis, Mo., Susan (William) Harrin of Kansas City, Mo., and Whit (Harriet) Smith of Indianapolis, Ind. He is also survived by his sister, Marie Stahlman of Dousman; and his granddaughters, Sarah (Peter) Fletcher of Chicago, Eleisia Pence of Minneapolis and Julie Pence of Oconomowoc. He is further survived by step-grandchildren other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his two wives: Sarah in 1972, and Jane in 1988.

Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. today, Nov. 3, at Westbrook Church, 1100 Highway 83, Delafield. Services will follow visitation at 4 p.m.; the Rev. Dan Schober officiating. Interment will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, at Summit cemetery.

Joan E. Sohrweide
SUN PRAIRIE - Joan E. Sohrweide, 57, died Monday, Oct. 30, 2000, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison. She was born in New Diggings, Wis., on May 24, 1943, and was the daughter of Walter and Eileen Dawson. She married Richard Sohrweide on June 16, 1962, in Mukwonago. Joan worked as a clerk at Thrift Drugs and Home Health United.

Survivors include her husband, Richard; two children, Don (Peggy Eagen) of Sun Prairie and Deborah of San Jose, Calif.; two sisters, Janet Lyne of Janesville and Elaine (Bill) Fitch of Dubuque, Iowa; two brothers, Earl (Karen) Dawson of Milwaukee and Robert Dawson of Mukwonago; and one sister-in-law, Francine McNett of Palatka, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, James McNett.

A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, at the Tuschen-Newcomer Funeral Home, 302 Columbus St., Sun Prairie, with Pastor Ross Oestreich officiating. A visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until the time of the services at the funeral home Saturday. Burial will be in Sun Prairie City cemetery.

George J. Eimer Sr.
WAUKESHA - George J. Eimer Sr., lifelong resident of Waukesha, died Thursday, Nov. 2, 2000, at home at the age of 86. He was born March 17, 1914, the son of Joseph and Agnes (nee Yeroshek) Eimer. George was an employee of the Waukesha Motor Works for 38 years and retired in June 1976. George was a member of St. William’s Catholic Church, a member of the Old Timer’s Club, and proudly served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in Italy and Africa. He was also an airplane and engine mechanic while he served his country in the Army.

George will be sadly missed by his wife, Joyce, whom he married Oct. 31, 1959; and his children, Margaret Eimer of Waukesha, George (Debi) Eimer Jr. of Delafield, Donald (Ruth) Eimer of Nashotah, John (Kathy) Eimer of Delafield, Betsy (Bob) Myers of Waukesha and Kathy Eimer of West Allis. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Niki, Kim, Chase, Dan, Becky, Jake, Kyle and Melissa; his sister-in-law, Jan (Norm) Pfeiffle of Waukesha; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The funeral Mass for George will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7, at St. William’s Catholic Church, 440 N. Moreland Blvd.; the Rev. Mark Payne officiating. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 6, and from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Tuesday at the Cesarz, Charapata & Zinnecker Funeral Home. Eujenio Mesa Sr.
WAUKESHA - Eujenio Mesa Sr., 74, was born to eternal life Friday, Nov. 3, 2000, at Waukesha Memorial Hospital. He was born to this life Sept. 6, 1926, in Loraine, Texas, to the late Pablo and Apolinar (nee Querriga) Mesa. Mr. Mesa proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He was a longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where he was active in Knights of Columbus Our Lady of Guadalupe Council No. 6719. He was employed at International Harvester for 30 years and at Fabricare Cleaners for 14 years. On Dec. 28, 1957, he married Maria de los Angeles Rodriguez.

He will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Maria; three loving children, Maria D. Mesa of Milwaukee, Diana Mesa (Mark) Horaitis of Milwaukee and Javier N. Mesa of Waukesha; dearest grandchildren, M. Leticia Mesa and Nikkos Horaitis, both of Milwaukee; brothers and sisters, Nick (Sara), Ramona, Mary, Florence, Manny (Joy), Frank (Marie), Rosie and Onnie; and sister-in-law, Juanita Mesa. He is further survived by a special niece, Maria Elena (Antonio); great-nieces, Alejandra and Natalia; great-nephew, Daniel; as well as other nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Eujenio Mesa Jr. on Aug. 20, 2000, and brothers, Aurelio and Paul Mesa.

Visitation will take place from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 5, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with a funeral Mass at 7 p.m. The Rev. Aurelio Perez is officiating. Visitation continues Monday at Randle-Dable Funeral Home from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. processing to St. Joseph cemetery. Committal services will take place at 11:30 a.m. at the cemetery chapel. Anne G. Stoecker
WAUWATOSA - Anne G. Stoecker, a resident of St. Camillus Health Center in Wauwatosa, formerly of Mukwonago, passed away Friday, Nov. 3, 2000, at the age of 87. Anne has been reunited with her beloved husband, Donald E. Stoecker, via God’s divine hand.

Anne was born in Milwaukee on Oct. 30, 1913, to Joseph and Barbara (nee Preselec) Galian.

Anne was a former secretary to the superintendent of schools for Mukwonago Union High School for many years. She was also a member of Mount Olive Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mukwonago.

She is survived by her children, Dale F. (Patricia) Stoecker of Big Sandy, Texas, and Lynn C. (Lorna) Stoecker of West Allis; her grandchildren, Donald L. Stoecker of Oregon, Brett C. (Susan) Stoecker of Knaresborough, England, Andrea A. Stoecker of Oregon, Tonia (David) Thurman of Lewisville, Texas, Jeffrey S. (Mui Moh) Stoecker of Wausau and Dianna S. (Brian) Brophey of Wauwatosa; her brothers and sisters, Charles (Connie) Galian of Milwaukee, Helen Kasten of Barrington, Ill., Frances Driscoll of Milwaukee, Mabel Johnson of Long Beach, Calif., Joseph Galian Jr. of San Diego and Lila Porteous of Nevada; 11 great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends in Mukwonago where she spent most of her life.

She was proceeded in death by her parents and her sister, Bubbles.

Friends may call from 1 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7, at the Schmidt & Bartlet - Van Valin Funeral Home, 315 Main St., Mukwonago. The Rev. Dr. Steven C. Kuhl will officiate. There will be a private burial at Oak Knoll cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Order of St. Camillus Foundation Inc., 10200 W. Bluemound Road, Wauwatosa, WI 53226, in memory of Anne for the loving care provided by its staff.

Anita M. Des Forges
WAUKESHA - Anita M. Des Forges (nee Seybold), 98, was born to eternal life on Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000, at the Avalon Manor. She was the daughter of the late Otto and Emma (nee Schroeder) Seybold. Anita grew up in Milwaukee and attended the old 5th Street School in 1916, and graduated from Girls Tech and Training School as a secretary. She was employed at H. H. West Stationary Store in Milwaukee. She later worked in a law office and as an independent insurance agent until 1976. Anita moved to Waukesha’s Avalon Manor in 1979. She was a former member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Milwaukee, the Tripoli Shrine Auxiliary and volunteered for the Red Cross for 15 years.

She was the beloved wife of the late Maj. George DesForges, who died in 1958. She was the beloved aunt to Ruth Rosnow (Merle) Knox of West Bend and Lucille Rosnow (Robert G.) Williams of Pewaukee. She is further survived by seven grandnieces and nephews, Thomas (Marcie) Williams, John Jr. (Margie) Wahlen, Robert "Bill" Nuss, James (Sharon) Wahlen, James Nuss, Susan Williams and Sally (Jay) Morgan; seven great-grandnieces and nephews, Kimberly (Kelly) Teuteberg; John P. III (Nicole) Wahlen, Joy (Eric) Wagner, Christopher Wahlen, Brooke Williams, Fred Wahlen and Jessica Nuss; and five great-great-grandnieces and nephews, Amanda Teuteberg, Jacob Teuteberg, Emma Wagner, Rebecca Wagner and Zachary Wahlen.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Malinda Seybold (Leonard) Rosnow, and by her niece, Anita Rosnow Nuss.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8, at Wisconsin Memorial Park; please meet at the cemetery.

James E. Egan
WAUKESHA - James E. Egan, 82, of Waukesha, passed away Friday, Nov. 3, 2000, at the Waters of Westmoreland. James was born Jan. 13, 1918, at Detroit Lakes, Minn., the son of James and Rosella (nee Chase) Egan. He was a foreman with West Allis Chalmers for many years. He was an excellent "Mr. Fix It" and a licensed locksmith. He proudly served our country as a U.S. Army veteran.

James will be dearly missed by his wife, Ruth, of 63 years; daughter, Kathleen; grandsons, Ernie and Patrick; great-grandchildren, Ernie Ray, Carly and Amanda; sister, Frances (John); and brother, Bernard. He will also be missed by Ana, Amy and other relatives and friends.

Kenneth L. Krause
SUN PRAIRIE - Kenneth L. Krause, 77, died at his home on Friday, Oct. 20, 2000. He was born in Masonville, Iowa, on Oct. 22, 1922, the son of Ferd and Nellie Krause.

Ken graduated from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 1948 after serving four years as a pilot in the United States Marine Corps in World War II. He had a private law practice in Waukesha before being recalled to active duty during the Korean Conflict. After returning to private practice for another 25 years, he was appointed Waukesha County’s first Judicial Court Commissioner until he retired nine years later.

In 1944 Ken married the former Evelyn Redding of Palmyra. He was a former member of Masonic Lodge #37, Knights Templer of Waukesha, American Bar Association, Waukesha County and Wisconsin Bar Associations. He also served on the boards of Prairie Home cemetery, Chapel Hill and First Methodist Church in Waukesha. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Sun Prairie.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn; a daughter, Karen (Jim) Graham of Milburn, Okla.; a son, Randy (Nancy) Krause of Poynette; five grandchildren and one great-grandson; and one brother, Robert (Carol) Krause of Waukesha. Ken was preceded in death by an infant son, Ronald G. Krause.

A memorial service was held at Prairie Home cemetery Chapel in Waukesha. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Lung Association, 150 S. Sunnyslope Road, Suite 105, Brookfield, WI 53005-9923.

Tuschen-Newcomer Funeral Home in Sun Prairie assisted the family with arrangements.
