Frederick Samann
TOWN OF GENESEE - Frederick Samann of the town of Genesee passed away on Friday, Sept. 8, 2000, at Waukesha Memorial Hospital. He was 88.

He was born on Oct. 14, 1911, in Luebeck, Germany, to Henry and Emelia (nee David) Samann.

Survivors include his son, Rick Samann, of the town of Genesee; two sisters, Raula Gellert of Milwaukee and Emma Ulrich of Germany; one brother, Heinrich Samann of Germany; and other relatives and friends.

His parents and his wife, Estelle, preceded him in death.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 13 until the time of a memorial talk at 7 p.m. at the Schmidt and Bartelt-Van Valin Funeral Home, 315 Main St., Mukwonago.

Fred’s goodness, kindness and love for Jehovah God and life will be remembered by all of us. Our wonderful memories of him will always be loved and cherished. Words cannot express our deepest grief at this loss.

Morgan Lily Swenson
WAUKESHA - Morgan Lily Swenson was born to eternal life on Sept. 8, 2000. She was born on April 15, 2000, the darling daughter of Holly Swenson and the granddaughter of Vicki Swenson of Waukesha and Earl Swenson of Osnabrock, North Dakota. Morgan was the great-granddaughter of Robert and Beverly Hartwick of Waukesha and Asta and Archie McIntosh of Osnabrock, North Dakota. Morgan was the great-great-granddaughter of Carmen Novotny of Waukesha and was the niece of Crystal Swenson and Reid Swenson of Waukesha. She is also the cousin of Tyler Swenson. Morgan is further survived by other relatives and friends.

Visitation for Morgan will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 11 at the Rudolph-Larsen Bros. Funeral Home, 500 N. East Ave., where a funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Her burial will take place at Highland Memorial Park at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12.

Carl A. Buss
OCONOMOWOC - Carl A. Buss, 62, of Oconomowoc, died Sunday, Sept. 10, 2000, at his home. He was born Aug. 28, 1938, in Watertown, to Harold and Bernice (nee Frey) Buss. On Aug. 24, 1963, he married Mary Schraven in Winneconne.

Carl was a business insurance agent for Wisconsin Insurance Management. He was a member of the Oconomowoc Lions Club, the Watertown Country Club, and Paganica Golf Course. He was also a member of St. Matthew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; three daughters, Laurie (Rob) Keefe of Medford, Pam (Larry) Rapsard of Akron, Ohio, and Carrie Buss (Steve Rhoads) of Oconomowoc; six grandchildren, Katie, Samantha, John and Connor Keefe and Elizabeth and Kevin Rapsard; one sister, Carole (Russel) Wegner of Waukesha; one brother, Dale (Debbie) Buss of Franklin; and his mother, Bernice, of Beaver Dam. He is further survived by other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Harold, and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Florence and George Schraven.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 13, at Schmidt and Bartelt Notbohm-Kreutzmann Funeral Home, 121 S. Cross St., Oconomowoc. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 14, at St. Matthew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 818 W. Wisconsin Ave. The Rev. David Rothe will officiate. Burial will be in LaBelle cemetery.

Memorials are appreciated to the American Cancer Society or the University of Wisconsin Lake Country Alumni Club, P.O. Box 594, Pewaukee.

Eleanor M. Kohls
WAUKESHA - Eleanor M. Kohls, 83, of Waukesha, died Saturday, Sept. 9, 2000, at Waukesha Memorial Hospital. She was born June 14, 1917, in Scandinavia to the late Teman and Laura (Johnson) Bestul. Eleanor was employed in the Waukesha School System, along with her late husband, Charles A. Kohls, who was a physics teacher.

She will be missed by her two sisters-in-law, Arvada Bestul of Scandinavia and Mildred (George) Kuhaupt of Slinger. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, on April 27, 1999.

A private funeral service will be held at Randle-Dable Funeral Home. Burial will be in Scandinavia cemetery in Iola. Memorials are appreciated to the Humane Animal Welfare Society of Waukesha, 701 Northview Road, or the charity of the donors choice.

Reuben Edward Henry Mindemann
TOWN OF LISBON - Reuben Edward Henry Mindemann was born to eternal life on Sunday, Sept. 10, 2000, at the age of 71. He was a lifetime resident of the town of Lisbon. Reuben was the loving husband of Betty (nee Fuller) for 52 years. He was the dear father of Richard R. (Leslie) Mindemann and Pamela Sue (Victor) Hoard. He was the loving grandfather of Jason, Andrew and Aric Mindemann and Christine Hoard. He was the dear brother of Marion (Louis) Dobrich, Donald (Mary) Mindemann and Walter (Bonnie) Mindemann. He is further survived by other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 13, at Redeemer United Church of Christ, W220-N4915 Town Line Road, Sussex. Visitation will be held from 3:30 p.m. until the time of the service. Memorials may be given to Redeemer United Church of Christ.

Barbara C. Barquist
VILLAGE OF OCONOMOWOC LAKE - Barbara C. Barquist, 56, a Village of Oconomowoc Lake resident, died Monday, Sept. 11, 2000, at Waukesha Memorial Hospital. She was born in Milwaukee on Aug. 3, 1944, the daughter of Dr. Herbert Beam and Catherine Burke. She graduated from Holy Angels Academy in Milwaukee and attended St. Leo’s College and Marquette University. On Nov. 13, 1983, she married David Barquist in Reno, Nev.

Barbara was the founder and former president of Battery Products Inc. in Hartland and was a partner in Barquist Publishing. She was a local historian and author, and worked as a reporter and columnist for the Lake Country Reporter. Barbara was the Historian of the Village of Oconomowoc Lake and numerous other historical societies, and was also a past member of the board of directors of the Waukesha Historical Society.

She was a member of St. Catherine of Alexandria Church in Mapleton and was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (former Chapter Regent).

She is lovingly survived by her husband, David Barquist, of the Village of Oconomowoc Lake; her children, Patrick Flanagan of Hartland, Heather Flanagan of Hartland, Paul (Susan) Barquist of Moline, Mich., and Karen (George) Plas of Wyoming, Mich.; and two grandchildren, Jeffery and Alison Plas. She is also survived by her former husband, Ronald Flanagan of Hartland; and her brothers and sisters, Patricia Wilcox of Waukesha, Pamela (Paul) Keenan of Edmond, Okla., and Roberta (Peter) Kraeger of Escondido, Calif. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Phyllis.

Funeral services will for Barbara will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, at St. Catherine of Alexandria Chruch in Mapleton; Fr. David Verhasselt officiating. Visitation will follow the service at the Oconomowoc Lake Club, Lake Club Circle, Village of Oconomowoc Lake. Following cremation, burial will be held at Summit cemetery.

Memorials to the Waukesha Memorial Hospital Regional Cancer Center, Oconomowoc Historical Society, Wildlife in Need Center or St. Catherine’s Church are appreciated.

WAUKESHA - Lester Smith of Waukesha died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2000, at Care-Age Health Care Center of Brookfield at age 83.

Marilyn Tangeman
OCONOMOWOC - Marilyn Tangeman, 64, died Monday, Sept. 11, 2000, at her home. She was born Nov. 15, 1935, in Seneca, Kan., the daughter of Mathias Rochel and Mary (Hutton) Rochel. She married Arthur Tangeman on Aug. 31, 1957, in Seneca.

Marilyn attended St. Peter and Paul Catholic School and graduated from Mount St. Scholastica College in Atchison, Kan. She taught elementary, high school and technical school in Kansas, Iowa and Wisconsin, teaching a variety of elementary school subjects as well as home economics. She was a member of St. Jerome Catholic Church. She was also a member of the Catholic Woman’s Club, the Oconomowoc Woman’s Club and the Evergreen Garden Club.

Marilyn is survived by her husband, Arthur; one daughter, Julia (Dan) McQueen of Milford, Mass.; two sons, Thomas Tangeman of Minneapolis, Minn., and Jeffrey Tangeman of Ankeny, Iowa. She is further survived by her parents, Mathias and Mary Rochel of Seneca, Kan. Also surviving are other relatives and many friends.

Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14, at St. Jerome Catholic Church, 211 S. Main St., Oconomowoc. A funeral Mass will be held at 7 p.m. at the church. The Rev. John Yockey will officiate. Burial will be in St. Peter and Paul Catholic cemetery in Seneca, Kan.

Memorials may be made to St. Jerome’s Endowment Fund or the Oconomowoc Regional Cancer Center.

Carl P. Terlinden
WAUKESHA - Carl P. Terlinden, 84, died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2000, at Waukesha Memorial Hospital. He was born in the town of Pewaukee on June 10, 1916, to Charles and Emma (nee Koch) Terlinden. Mr. Terlinden was a graduate of Carroll College and a member of the Pioneers Club. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II in the South Pacific as a member of the Wisconsin Red Arrow Division. On Dec. 23, 1949, he married his lifelong best friend, Isabel, (nee Imig) Terlinden. He was last employed at Waukesha Foundry for 20 years as a radiographer, retiring in 1978 at the age of 62. Mr. Terlinden was a lifelong and faithful member of the Evangelical and Reformed United Church of Christ where he taught Sunday School for many years.

He will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 50 years, Isabel; their son, John Terlinden of Hartland; their daughter, Ann Terlinden of Waukesha; and two granddaughters, Jennifer and Natalie Ann. He is further survived by two brothers and one sister, Glenn (Elizabeth) Terlinden of Pewaukee, Dean (Jane) Terlinden and Fern Shaner, both of Long Beach, Calif., and many loving relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Terlinden was preceded in death by his sister, Olive Boomgard.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 7:30 p.m.on Friday, Sept. 15, at Randle-Dable Funeral Home, 1110 S. Grand Ave. The Rev. David Switzer is officiating. Interment will be at Prairie Home cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the Evangelical and Reformed United Church of Christ.

NASHOTAH - Mary Olysav, 76, of Nashota, formerly of New Berlin, died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000, at Oconomowoc. Funeral arrangements are pending with Randle-Dable Funeral Home in Waukesha. Please call 547-4035 for further information.

Lester C. Smith
WAUKESHA - Lester C. Smith, 83, died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2000, at Care-Age of Brookfield. He was born on Nov. 18, 1916, in the town of Lisbon to Charles and Pauline (nee Buege) Smith. Mr. Smith faithfully served his country in the United States Army as a first sergeant from 1943 to 1945. He was employed at First National Bank (now Bank One) where he was vice president of mortgage lending, retiring in 1981 after 46 years of service. He was a 1959 graduate of the University of Wisconsin School of Banking. On Sept. 17, 1938, he married Genevieve (nee Clayton) Smith.

Mr. Smith was an active member of First Presbyterian Church since 1929, serving as an Elder and Sunday school teacher. He was a former member of the Waukesha Rotary Club.

Mr. Smith was a devoted and loving father and husband and a trusted friend. He loved to travel, did fine woodworking and was a member of the Waukesha Aviation Club. He was a man of Christian character with a generous spirit toward all.

Survivors include the love of his life, Genevieve, and their three children, Donald C. (Rosemary) Smith of Wales, Richard C. (Colette) Smith of Wauwatosa and Eileen L. (David) Zimmerman of Marshfield; four grandchildren, Pamela (Rick) Ratcliffe, Stephanie (Rob) Bartelt, Adam (Melanie) Smith and Claire Smith; and two great-grandchildren, Kaelyn and Rachel Ratcliffe. He is further survived by his brother, Orlie W. (Florence) Smith of Waukesha, and other loving relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Percy Smith, and his sister, Helen McCauley.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until the 7 p.m. funeral service on Friday, Sept. 15, at First Presbyterian Church, 810 N. East Ave., Waukesha. The Rev. Donald Clarke is officiating. Interment will take place at Prairie Home cemetery.

Memorials to the Salvation Army are suggested.

Ethel M. Wilder
WAUKESHA - Ethel M. Wilder, 72, of Waukesha died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000, at Waukesha Memorial Hospital. She was born Oct. 28, 1927, the daughter of Fred and Lita (Cardo) Hoppe. In 1947 she started as a beautician in Waukesha. She went to work for the Curl Beauty Shop on Lincoln in 1953. In 1956 she bought the shop, and three years later, the building. She worked full time as a beautician until her retirement in 1984, when she sold the business. She continued to work part time until her death. She was an active bowler and member of the Evangelical Reformed Church.

She will be sadly missed by her husband Rollin, whom she married Jan. 31, 1976; her brother Cliffe (Wilma) Hoppe; her niece, Karen Radelet; her great-nieces, Joanne and Lori Radelet; her cousins, Harold Cardo and Bill Cardo; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.

A memorial service for Ethel will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, at the Cesarz, Charapata & Zinnecker Funeral Home on Moreland. The Rev. David Switzer will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home from 8 a.m. Saturday until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Prairie Home cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to the Waukesha Memorial Hospital Foundation, Oncology Unit.

Laurie Jensen
WAUKESHA - Laurie Jensen, 40, of Waukesha, died Sept. 13, 2000, at her home. She was born Nov. 20, 1959, in Milwaukee to Alfred and Patricia Jensen.

She is survived by her parents, Alfred and Patricia of Groveland, Fla.; her brother, Kevin A. (Nancy) Jensen of Peoria, Ariz.; her sister, Linda S. Krohn of Indian Town, Fla.; and her grandmother, Inez Berry of Amherst.

Friends may call from 2 p.m. until the 3 p.m. funeral service Tuesday, Sept. 19, at Randle-Dable Funeral Home, 1110 S. Grand Ave. Burial of cremated remains will be in Amherst at a later date.

Jean Catherine Woitkielewicz
MILES CITY, Mont. - Jean Catherine Woitkielewicz, 79, of Miles City, Mont., passed away Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2000, at the Holy Rosary Health Center in Miles City.

She was born Gina Catrina Valenti on June 12, 1921, in Hurley, the daughter of Arthur and Antonia (DeRossi) Valenti. She married John Chester Woitkielewicz on May 29, 1939, in Hurley, and made their home in Montreal, Wis. They lived in Big Bend before settling in Miles City in 1978.

She is survived by a son, Philip J. Woitkielewicz and his wife, Holly, of Miles City; two daughters, Jean A. Allerman of Loveland, Colo., and Roberta L. Feivor and husband, Donavon, of Idledale, Colo.; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, John, in 1985; a daughter, Toni Hardy; sons-in-law Bing Hardy and Roger Alleman; brothers Peter, Alfred, Albert, Sam, and twin brother Gino; and sister Adeline Pena.

Vigil services will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14, in the chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home, 1717 Main St., Miles City, Mont. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 15, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Gil Hemauer-Capuchin as celebrant. The Rite of Committal will follow in the family lot in the Calvary cemetery.

Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the Holy Rosary Hospice, 2905 Main St., Suite #2, Miles City, MT 59301.

Mary J. Kerrigan
PEWAUKEE - Mary J. Kerrigan, of Pewaukee, born in Milwaukee on May 11, 1912, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Pakiz) Janesic, went flying with the angels to Jesus on Thursday, Sept. 14, 2000, at the age of 88.

She will be sadly missed by her son, William (Jeanette) McCurdy of Mukwonago; her daughter, Mary (David) Zajac of Dousman; her brother, John (Marian) Janesic of Hales Corners; her sister, Emily Brushe of Brookfield; her sisters-in-law, Anne and Sue Janesic; her grandchildren, Patrick (Kay) and Robert Copsey, Eric, Craig, Lisa, Natalie and Ian McCurdy; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John D. McCurdy; her son, John; and her brothers, Joseph and Edward.

A memorial service for Mary will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 17, at the Cesarz, Charapata & Zinnecker Funeral Home on Moreland Boulevard. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m.
