Glenice P. Boggs

FLATWOODS -- Glenice P. Boggs, 80, of Elkview, died Thursday, Jan. 15, 1998, at C.A.M.C. Memorial Division, Charleston after a short illness.

She was born April 11, 1917, in Braxton County, a daughter of the late Otis Petry and Caroline Moyers Petry.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James R. Boggs on April 15, 1997.

Surviving are one daughter, Judy E. Burford, Charleston; one son, James David Boggs, Morgantown; five sisters, Leola Soffish, Ashland, Ohio, Grey Lloyd, Gassaway, Edith Shaver, Morgantown, Lauramae Smith, Mansfield, Ohio, and Ruthlene Speece, Sparks; one grandson, Michael Boggs; one great-granddaughter; four stepgrandchildren, Alicia Ashley, Malinda Ashley, Brian Burford and Adam Burford.

She was also preceded in death by one brother, Carl Petry, and one sister, Irene Greathouse.

Mrs. Boggs was a homemaker. She attended Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, Elkview and was a member of the Womens Auxiliary of Braxton County Memorial Hospital.

Carolyn Carder

GRAFTON -- Carolyn Tackett Carder, 59, of West Main Street, died at 10:05 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13, 1998, at the home of her daughter, Ann Elizabeth Shay, following an extended illness.

She was born Dec. 29, 1938, in Caddo County, Ark., a daughter of Woodrow Tackett, Hot Springs, Ark., and the late Elizabeth Ophelia Tackett.

Her husband, Robert L. "Sonny" Carder, preceded her in death.

Also surviving are two sons and their wives, J. Randolph "Ralph" and Dawn Layfield, Fairmont, and Gregory and Candise Layfield, Grafton; five grandchildren, Isaac and Ashley, both of Fairmont, Andre and K.Y. Layfield and Jonathan Shay; two daughters, Ann Elizabeth Shay and Sonya Dee Carder, all of Grafton; three sisters, Ruby Dee Geisendorff, Kerrville, Texas, Betty Wilson, Chireno, Texas, and Linda Bailey, McCool Junction, Neb.

She was also preceded in death by one son, Rick Layfield, and one son-in-law, Thomas Lee Shay.

Ms. Carder was a well-known registered nurse with Grafton City Hospital, where she was a night supervisor. She was a graduate of Davis & Elkins College with a degree in early childhood education and was a past member of the Federation Womans Club of Grafton, where she was in charge of the Literature and Drama Department.

She was chairperson of the Calico Queen Contest, a member of the Taylor County Garden Club and the Taylor County Boat Club.

Gertrude Carr

PARSONS -- Gertrude Marie "Toots" Car, 71, a resident of Shavers Fork, Tucker County, died Thursday, Jan. 15, 1998, at her home.

She was born April 14, 1926, at Onego, Pendleton County, a daughter of the late W. Frank and Gladys Sharp Hedrick.

Surviving is her husband, Lindsey W. Carr, whom she married June 6, 1951 in Maryland.

Also surviving are three sons, Terry Carr, Norton, Ohio, Tom Carr, Corunna, Mich., and Michael Carr, Shavers Fork; four daughters, Mrs. Charles (Linda) Canfield, Pheasant Run, Mrs. Gene (Bonita) Yeager, Massillon, Ohio, Mrs. Dave (Bev Carr) Simmons, Parsons, and Mrs. Jamie (Susie) Rohr, Massillon, Ohio; four brothers, Hubert Hedrick, Pheasant Run, Bert Hedrick, Holly Meadows, Blair Hedrick, Coneaut, Ohio, and Dale Hedrick, Hendricks; three sisters, Mrs. Frank (Otta Sue) Ashby, Parsons, Mrs. Earl (Johanna) Nelson, Elkins, and Mrs. Joe (Annisdell) Combs, Manassas, Va.; 22 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, Artie Dale Carr; one brother, Chester Hedrick and one grandson, Brent Warren Yeager.

Mrs. Carr was a graduate of Parsons High School with the Class of 1943, where she was valedictorian of her senior class, had worked for the Barberton School System of Ohio for 27 years, retiring in 1992, at which time she returned to the family farm. She attended the Riverview Chapel Church at Porterwood.

James Cochran Sr

James Edward Cochran Sr., died Thursday, Jan. 15, 1998, in a local nursing home following an extended illness.

He was born in Sutton, April 1, 1909, a son of the late Lee J. and Mae Perkins Cochran.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel H. Ash Cochran, on Feb. 17, 1987.

Surviving are five sons, Ronnie Cochran, Good Hope, James E. Cochran Jr., West Milford, Robert G. Cochran Sr., Jane Lew, Marvin H. Cochran, Moundsville and John Cochran, Campbell, Ohio; five daughters, Martha Lee Wilson, Good Hope, Barbara Sue Swiger, Clarksburg, Roberta Gray, Good Hope, Ellen E. Baker, Clarksburg, and Mettie Mae, Nutter Fort and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by two sisters, one brother, one son and two daughters.

A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the family, c/o Barbara Swiger, 443 Rosebud Ave., Clarksburg, W.Va.

Herbert Hebb

PARSONS -- Herbert Hebb, 76, a resident of Parsons, and more recently a patient at Nella's Incorporated at Crystal Springs, Elkins, died Friday morning, Jan. 16, 1998, at Davis Memorial Hospital.

He was born Jan. 22, 1921, at Parsons, a son of the late Lee and Lutie Phillips Hebb.

Surviving are two nephews, Jim Hebb, Parsons, and Joe Hebb, White Plains, Md.; one niece, Gail Cassidy, Elkins, and four grandnieces and three grandnephews.

He was also preceded in death by one brother, Robert Lee Hebb.

Mr. Hebb was a graduate of Parsons High School with the Class of 1941, had worked for the former Dorman Mills Company of Parsons for over 30 years, retired from Parsons Footwear as a foreman during 1986, and was a member of the Parsons I.O.O.F. Lodge and was an avid outdoorsman.

Russell Hitt

WESTON -- Russell Guy Hitt, 68, of Route 1, died at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, 1998, at his residence following a sudden illness.

He was born Oct. 9, 1929, in Sand Fork, Gilmer County, a son of the late William Robert Hitt and Polly Lucretcia Pritt Hitt.

Surviving is his wife, the former Thelma Elaine Boram, whom he married Sept. 16, 1964.

Surviving are three sons, Russell Joseph Hitt, Cox's Mill, Randy Marshall Hitt, Glenville, and Ricky Dean Hitt, Jane Lew; four daughters, Anna Johnston, Hall, Tenn., Joyce Sprouse and Kim Marple, both of Jane Lew, and Melissa Jenkins, Route 4, Weston; one brother, Willard Hitt, Oil Creek; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Dennis Eugene Hitt and Russell Guy Hitt; three brothers, Robert, Jessie and Harvey Hitt, and one sister, Anna Parsons.

Mr. Hitt was retired from West Virginia Glass Specialty, a member of the Broad Street United Methodist Church and a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army.

Friends will be received from 6-9 p.m. today, at Boyle Funeral Home, 322 Main Ave., Weston, where the funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Sunday, with the Rev. Clifford West, officiating. Interment will follow in the Hiney cemetery at Linn.

Daris Westfall

PENNSBORO -- Daris L. Westfall, 84, of Route 2, Pennsboro, died Thursday, Jan. 15, 1998, at the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center of Clarksburg.

He was born Feb. 1, 1913, at Progress Ridge near Gassaway in Braxton County, the son of the late Robert and Barbara E. Frame Westfall.

Surviving are his companion of 33 years, Betty D. Johnson, Pennsboro; three sons, Robert Westfall, Dallas Westfall and Donald Westfall, all of Parkersburg; one sister, Gay Stevens, St. Cloud, Fla.; three brothers, Robert Westfall Jr., Elyria, Ohio, and Forest D. "Fuzz" Westfall, St. Cloud, Fla., and Cary Westfall, Bunker Hill.

He was also preceded in death by one half brother, Olin Stump; two brothers, Fred Westfall and Garland Westfall, and one sister, Evelyn White Hamrick.

Mr. Westfall had been employed by the Kenton Meadows Construction Company of Gassaway and was a member of the Laborers International Union of North America, Local 1085 of Parkersburg. Mr. Westfall was a farmer and a veteran of World War II, where he served in the U.S. Army in Europe and Africa.

James Whaley

SHINNSTON -- James Oris Franklin Whaley Sr., 75, of Water Street, West Milford, died at 12:15 p.m. Friday, Jan. 16, 1998, in United Hospital Center, following a brief illness.

He was born at Coburns Creek, May 23, 1922, a son of the late James Orville and Hazel Maude Ancell Whaley.

Surviving is his wife, Esta Dell Wable Whaley, whom he married March 1943.

Also surviving are two sons, James O. Whaley Jr., Clarksburg, and Gaylord Whaley, Falls Church, Va.; three daughters, Judy Ann Dazi, Mahopac, N.Y., Linda McCoy, Tucson, Ariz., and Donna Louise Gregory, West Milford; 15 grandchildren, 17 great- grandchildren; three sisters, Wanda Lawson, Akron, Ohio, Twila Smith, Sutton, and Sharon Harris, Hepzibah, several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by six brothers and six sisters.

Mr. Whaley was retired, having worked as a coal miner and a brakeman on the railroad.

Friends will be received at 2 p.m. Sunday, at Dorsey Funeral Home, Shinnston, where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, with Pastor Kenneth Howell, officiating. Interment will be in the Shinnston Masonic cemetery.

Mary L. Ables

Mary Louise Ables, 69, of 3600 Lake Ave., No. 602, Ashtabula, Ohio, died at 2:30 a.m. Saturday, May 16, 1998, in Carrington Park Nursing Home, Ashtabula.

She was born April 30, 1929, in Grantsville, a daughter of the late Dallas and Ella Mae Blosser Burrows.

Surviving are three daughters, Lorain Jane Harris, Weston, Hazel Ruby Thompson, North Carolina, and Goldie Evelyn; three brothers, Harold Ray Burrows, Jane Lew, Howard Hugh Burrows, Dryridge, Ky., and Orville Eugene Burrows, Mt. Clare; three sisters, Mrs. Gay A. (Ida M.) Carper, Geneva, Ohio, Dorthy J. Voss, Claypool, Ariz., and Scottie B. Carper, Buckhannon; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by one son, Denver James Reed; one brother, Junior Burrows, and three sisters, Wilma, Genevieve and Isabelle Burrows.

Mrs. Ables was Protestant and a homemaker. She was interested in cowboy and cowgirl lore and often dressed as such.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at Davis-Weaver Funeral Home, 329 E. Main St. The funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. S.E. Lewis officiating. Interment will follow in the Rockford cemetery.

Agnes L. Boudion

WESTON -- Agnes Louise Boudion, 80, of 117 Brown Ave., died at 9 p.m. Monday, May 18, 1998, at her residence following a brief illness.

She was born Dec. 24, 1917, in Port Chester, N.Y., a daughter of the late Clarence Mead and Annetta Mack Mead.

Her husband, John M. Boudion Sr., preceded her in death on Aug. 21, 1994.

Surviving are one son, John M. Boudion III, Weston; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

Mrs. Boudion was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Women's Army Corps in the U.S. Army. She was a homemaker and a member of the Assembly of God Ministries.

Friends will be received from 6-9 p.m. today at Boyle Funeral Home, 322 Main Ave., Weston. The funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. John Branch officiating. Interment will follow in Kensico cemetery, Valhalla, N.Y.

Elsie M. Furgione

Elsie Mae Furgione, 75, of Cleveland, Ohio, died Feb. 24, 1998, in North Royalton, Ohio.

She was born April 18, 1923, in Doddridge County, a daughter of the late Terry and Blanche Merryman Sutton.

Surviving are her husband, Joseph Furgione, North Royalton; three daughters, Patricia B. Jones and Shirley Messman, both of Clarksburg, and Jo Furgione Blake Shockey; two grandchildren, Rebecca Mohrle, New Port Richey, Fla., and Patrick Lee Jones, Clarksburg; one great-granddaughter, three stepgrandchildren, two stepgreat-grandchildren, and one niece, Mrs. Roger (Jeanie) Wright, West Union.

She was also preceded in death by one brother, Bud Sutton, and one sister, Kathleen Skinner.

A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.
