Annie Justice

Annie Lee Justice, 67, of Monongah, died Friday, June 26, 1998, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, following an extended illness.

She was born Sept. 12, 1930, in Philippi, a daughter of Octavia Newman, Philippi and the late Albert Newman.

Her husband, Aaron Booker Justice Sr., survives. Also surviving are one son, Aaron Justice Jr., and his wife Ann Marie; two daughters and sons-in-law, Alceste (Sissy) and Glenn R. Powell, Friendswood, Texas and Antheia Gayle and Roger L. Blake, Monongah; eight grandchildren, three brothers, Howard Newman, Canton, Ohio, Charles Newman and Donald Newman, both of Philippi; four sisters, Mae Kennedy, Jo Anne Newman, Bessie Croston, and Shirley Newman, all of Philippi, and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by one brother, Harold Newman and one sister, Elisabeth Hoffman.

Mrs. Justice was a member of the Spruce Street Church of Christ, Fairmont and was a homemaker.

Friends will be received from 1:30-9 p.m. Sunday at Harmer Funeral Home, Shinnston. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Oakwood Road Church of Christ with the Evangelist Earl Stevens officiating. The body will lie in state from 1-2 p.m. Monday at the church. The funeral procession will pass by the family home between 12:20 and 12:35 p.m. Monday. Entombment will follow at the Grandview Memorial cemetery.

Denzel A. Lambert
Lexie L. Lambert

SHINNSTON -- Denzel A. Lambert, 91, died Monday, June 8, 1998, and Lexie L. Lambert, 87, his wife of 75 years, died on Tuesday, May 5, 1998.

Surviving are one son, Jack Lambert, Lost Creek; one daughter, Elizabeth Ann Foreman, Tucson, Ariz., and seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday at the Wallace United Methodist Church with the Rev. Richard Allen officiating.

Thomas A. O'Brien

MORGANTOWN -- Thomas A. O'Brien Sr., 76, of Morgantown and formerly of Clarksburg, died Thursday, 25, 1998, at his residence following a brief illness.

He was born March 23, 1922, in Heschersville, Pa., a son of the late Frances Xavier and Julia Curran O'Brien.

His wife of 55 years, Jessie Bennet O'Brien, survives. Also surviving are two sons, John Patrick, Morgantown and Thomas O'Brien Jr., Homosassa Springs, Fla.; one daughter, Nancy O'Brien, Glendale, Ariz.; two grandchildren, Brandy of Homosassa Springs, and John W. Stanton and spouse, Tracie; two great-granddaughters; one brother, John O'Brien, Claymont, Del.; three sisters, Ann Kozura, Pottsville, Pa., Alma Stramatis, Minersville, Pa., and Kathleen Androschick, St. Clair, Pa. and several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Francis, James, Cyril and Joseph O'Brien.

Mr. O'Brien operated a statewide health insurance agency in West Virginia for many years and resided in Morgantown since 1965.

Dasiel Ratliff

GLENVILLE -- Dasiel Ratliff, 84, of Glenville, died at 6:50 a.m. Friday, June 26, 1998, at Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital, Weston, following a brief illness.

She was born June 12, 1916, in Napier, Braxton County, a daughter of the late Newton and Janie Taylor Ratliff.

Surviving are one daughter, Patty Putnam, Stouts Mills; two sons, Freddie Ratliff, Stouts Mills and Jimmy Ratliff, Philippi; and six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by one son, Robert Dale "Bobby" Ratliff, and four brothers and five sisters.

Ms. Ratliff was a homemaker and a Methodist by faith.

Max H. Rauer

FAIRMONT -- Max H. Rauer Jr., 82, of Monongah, died Friday, June 26, 1998, in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown.

He was born March 23, 1916, in Fairmont, a son of the late Max Rauer Sr. and Anna Ebach Rauer.

His wife, Thelma Pauline Rauer, preceded him in death.

Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Brenda Rauer, Inwood and Lanny and Sue, of Amelia, Fla.; one brother, Herbert Rauer, Monongah; one sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Clyde Sypolt, Farmington; and six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Willy and Elmer Rauer and two sisters, Gertrude Horne and Eva Rauer.

Mr. Rauer was a retired coal miner from Bethlehem Mines Company.

Trevia Stansberry

HARRISVILLE -- Trevia Stansberry, 90, of Smithville, died Thursday, June 25, 1998, at Pine View Continuous Care, Harrisville.

She was born in Doddridge County, a daughter of the late Lloyd and Mary "Molly" Gaines Kinney.

Her husband, David Franklin Stansberry, preceded her in death.

Surviving are two sons, Elwood Stansberry, Massillon and Jimmy Stansberry, Oxford; one daughter, Patsy Hite, Umatilla, Fla.; two sisters, Gladys Wilson, Clarksburg and Opal Six, Columbus, Ohio; and 34 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by four sons, Franklin Stansberry, Donald Stansberry, Wayne Stansberry and Joe Stansberry, one daughter, Mary Belle Stansberry and one grandson, Stephen Stansberry.

Eva Lee Longacre

WEBSTER SPRINGS -- Eva Lee White Longacre, 97, of Cowen, died Saturday, June 27, 1998, at Summersville Memorial Hospital.

Born Aug. 23, 1900, at Webster Springs, she was the daughter of the late J.F. White and Nancy Ellen Nichols.

Her husband, Glenn V. Longacre Sr., preceded her in death.

She is survived by two sons, John F. Longacre, Longhorn, Pa., and Glenn V. Longacre Jr., Webster Springs; four grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Two brothers and three sisters preceded her in death.

Mrs. Longacre was a graduate of the Kellog School of Physical Education and taught elementary school in Webster County. She was the first girls basketball coach in the county.

She was a former resident of Clarksburg and of Sarasota, Fla. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Clarksburg Womans Club.

She taught floral design at Salem College and in her mid 60s became an accomplished painter.

Friends will be received from 6-9 p.m. Monday at Dodd and Reed Funeral Home, Webster Springs, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Nelson Harris officiating. She will be interred at Masonic cemetery, West Union.

Mary L. Burdick

BELINGTON -- Mary Lucille Burdick, 68, of Saginaw, Mich., died Friday, June 26, 1998, in the Home Hospital, West Lafayette, Ind., following an extended illness.

She was born Feb. 23, 1930, at White Oak community near Philippi, a daughter of the late Dallas and Goldie Shaffer Auvil.

Her husband, Dominick Burdick, whom she married July 1950, preceded her in death July 24, 1989.

Surviving are two daughters, Julie Hunter, West Lafayette, and Beatrice Eveland, Marietta, Ohio; three sons, Mark Burdick, Essexville, Mich., Dallas Burdick, East Lansing, Mich., Chris Burdick, Saginaw, Mich.; four brothers, Denzil "Butch" Auvil, Kenneth Auvil and Ralph Auvil, all of Belington, and Dallas Auvil Jr., Painesville, Ohio; one sister, Betty Garrett, Great Falls, Mont., and 21 grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by one sister, Virginia Isner and one brother, George Auvil.

Mrs. Burdick was a 1996 summa cum laude graduate of Saginaw Valley State University with a degree in English literature. She was a homemaker and former bookkeeper for the law firm of Braun, Kendrick and Finkbinder in Saginaw. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Patricia J. Eddy

Patricia Jean Griffith Eddy, 66, of Wolf Summit, died Friday, June 26, 1998, at her residence following an extended illness.

She was born Oct. 25, 1931, in Clarksburg, a daughter of the late Harold Kenneth and Virginia "Mammy" Simpson Moore.

Surviving is her companion Jeffrey M. Benninger; two daughters, Jessica Malfregeot, Clarksburg, and Dina McKinney, Nutter Fort; one brother, Harold Moore, Gregory's Run; three sisters, Veronica Claypool, Reynoldsville, Dina Belle Murphy, Bristol, and Nina Bianco, Clarksburg; six grandchildren, Shaunna L. Witt, Tommy Malfregeot, Kerri Malfregeot, Joseph Rae Malfregeot, Brandi K. Mann, and Zachary S. McKinney; three great-granddaughters, Justiz, Josie Rae, Nicole and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Eddy was a retired dietitian with Harrison County Senior Citizens Center. She was a Victory High School graduate and a member of Reynoldsville Baptist Church.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at Davis Funeral Home, Clarksburg Chapel, 443 W. Pike St., Clarksburg. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Charles B. Guthrie, officiating. Interment will follow in Floral Hills Memorial Garden.

Jack D. Hayhurst

Jack D. Hayhurst, 73, of Grove Avenue, Clarksburg, died Thursday, June 25, 1998, following a brief illness.

He was born Feb. 26, 1925, in Folsom, a son of the late William Hayhurst and Goldie Malson Hayhurst.

His wife of more than 50 years, Violet R. Hayhurst, survives.

He is also survived by two daughters, Mrs. Jerald (Sandra) Buss, Deltona, Fla., Mrs. Joseph (Julia) Newsome, Chesterfield, Va.; one brother, Gerald Hayhurst, Florida; one sister, Marilyn Tallman, Colliers; two grandsons, Jason Buss and Eric Tessenear, and one stepgrandson, David Newsome.

He was also preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.

Mr. Hayhurst was an active board member of the Stealey Assembly of God Church on Milford Street. He was retired from AT&T after 33 years service and he served with the U.S. Navy and Air Force during World War II and the Korean War.

Friends will be received from 2-5 p.m. today, at Davis-Weaver Funeral Home, 329 East Main St., Clarksburg. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Stealey Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Larry Green officiating. The body will lie in state at the church from 10-11 a.m. Interment will follow in the Sunset Memorial Park cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the church.

Winfred F. Mayle

PHILIPPI -- Winfred Franklin Mayle, 63, of Webster community, Route 2, Grafton, died at 2:15 p.m. Thursday, June 25, 1998, at his home following an extended illness.

He was born Aug. 7, 1934, at Philippi, a son of the late Haymond and Bessie Decost Mayle.

His wife, Christina Kennedy Mayle, survives.

He is also survived by one daughter, Patricia Sue Mayle, Webster; five sons, David Mayle, Moatsville, Joseph Haymond Mayle, Donald Mayle, Randall Mayle, all of Canton, Ohio, and Robert Mayle, Malvern, Ohio; one sister, Myrtle Maley, Canton; one half-sister, Agnes Mayle, Canton; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by one half sister, Vivian Crabtree, and one half brother, Elwood Kennedy.

Mr. Mayle was a retired construction laborer and a Methodist.

Friends will be received from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. today at Stemple and Forman Funeral Home, Philippi. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. today at the funeral home chapel with the Revs. David Maley Winfield Mayle officiating. Interment will follow in the Old Poke cemetery.
