FLATWOODS -- Mrs. Bessie L. Stalnaker, 84, of Corley Road, died Tuesday, June 2, 1998, at her home after a short illness.
She was born April 23, 1914, in Braxton County, a daughter of the late Charley Blake and Virginia Conrad Blake.
Her husband, Sam Stalnaker, preceded her in death on March 27, 1995.
Surviving are one daughter, Marie Stitt, Brooklyn, Ohio; two sons, Garl Stalnaker and Gail Stalnaker, both of Flatwoods; one sister, May Volinta, West Salem, Ohio; and five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was also preceded in death by one son, John Stalnaker.
Helen Toothman
MANNINGTON -- Helen Toothman of Charlottesville, Va. formerly of Clarksburg, died Monday, June 1, 1998, at her residence following a brief illness.
Surviving are her husband, O.D. "Hod" Bob Toothman; three daughters, Robin Poling, Richmond, Va., Linda Sue Reaser and Barbara Herath, and two sons-in law, Albert Reaser and Richard Herath, all of Charlottesville, and six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Toothman had been a deputy assesor, 4-H Club leader and All Star. She was a past president of the Harrison County Democratic Women's Association and an active member of the state association. She was a member of Christ Church United Methodist.
Lynwood D. Zinn
Lynwood Duane Zinn, 86, one of Clarksburg's highly respected physicians, died Tuesday, June 2, 1998, at his Country Club Road residence.
He was born March 24, 1912, in Glenville, a son of the late Lyda Duane Zinn and Jessie Hartman Zinn.
His wife, Ruth Blake Zinn, whom he married Aug. 1, 1936, survives.
Also surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Lynwood David and Margaret Zinn, Chicago Ill., and Stephen Blake and Wendy Zinn, Cleveland Heights, Ohio; four grandchildren, Jeremy A., Nicholas S., Chantal Zinn and Paul S. Morley, and one great-grandson, Zachery Michael Morley.
Dr. Zinn graduated from Glenville High School in 1929 and then from Glenville State College with the class of 1933. He attended West Virginia University School of Medicine and graduated from Harvard Medical School, Boston, Mass., in 1937. Following an intership at Hartford Hospital, Hartford, Conn., and a residency at the Hospital for Women in Baltimore, Md., he was licensed to practice medicine in West Virginia in July of 1941.
During World War II (1942-1946) he served as a Lieutenant Commander in the USN Medical Corps aboard the USS "White Marsh" in the Pacific.
Dr. Zinn was associated with Dr. H.H. Haynes in the practice of his specialty, internal medicine in Clarksburg. Following his military tenure he resumed his association with Mr. Haynes and Dr. Andrew J. Weaver.
Mr. Zinn with Dr. William A. Walker was instrumental in organizing the Coronary Care Units in the former St. Marys and Union Protestant Hospitals.
In 1973, Dr. Zinn formed a professional corporation, Associated Internists, Inc. with Dr. James Thompson and Dr. Creel Cornwell. He was a member of the Harrison County Medical Society, the West Virginia State Medical Association, the American Medical Association, a diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine as is a fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians.
Mr. Zinn is an elder and past ruling elder of the First Presbyterian Church in Clarksburg. He has served on the Board of Deacons, the Session and the Board of Trustees of his church. He was a life member of Glenville Lodge No. 118, AF&AM, a member of Nemesis Temple of Shrine, and a member of the Clarksburg Lodge No. 482, Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Davis-Weaver Funeral Home, 329 E. Main St., Clarksburg. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, at First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Dr. Eric Faust officiating. Interment will follow in Bridgeport cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, it is requested that memorial contributions be made to a cause of one's choice.
Roy D. Dilley
FLATWOODS -- Roy D. Dilley, 65, of Sutton, died Tuesday, May 26, 1998, at his residence following an extended illness.
He was born May 26, 1933, in Braxton County, a son of the late Javis Dilley and Catherine Dilley.
Surviving are his wife, Frances Dilley, Sutton; one daughter, Desiree R. Dilley, and one son, Gregory W. Dilley, both 01502302of Sutton; three sisters, Ruth, Judy and Susie, and two brothers, Doyle and Burnell.
BELINGTON -- Della Marie Hymes, 72, of Route 1, Montrose, Kirt community, died Tuesday morning, May 26, 1998, at her home following an extended illness.
She was born Aug. 30, 1925, in Kirt community, a daughter of the late Lafayette Stemple and Minnie Moore Stemple Biller.
Her husband, John Washington Hymes, whom she married May 15, 1943, preceded her in death on Feb. 19, 1998.
Surviving are three sons and four daughters-in-law, John D. and Kathy Hymes, Beckley, James Larry and Mary Hymes, Colona, Ill., Jack Neal and Judy Hymes, Belington, and Mrs. Ray W. (Kathy) Hymes, Route 1, Montrose, and 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by two sons, Ray Washington Hymes and Joe Michael Hymes; one sister, Juanita Dumire, and one brother, Denzel Wilson Stemple.
Mrs. Hymes was a homemaker. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Laurel Mt. Post No. 410, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Mt. Zion Church of the Brethren.
Bessie M. Lewis
WESTON -- Bessie M. Lewis, 87, of 128 McGary Ave., died at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 26, 1998, in Davis Memorial Hospital, Elkins, following an extended illness.
She was born July 8, 1910, in Weston, a daughter of the late John W. Williams and Minnie Lough Williams.
Her husband, Galen C. Lewis, whom she married July 23, 1932, survives.
Also surviving are one son, Donald G. Lewis, Weston; one granddaughter, Andrea M. "Shelly" Baugh, Weston, and one great-granddaughter, Tyla Baugh.
She was also preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
Mrs. Lewis was employed as a glass cutter for Borchert Glass Company for several years. She was Methodist.
Friends will be received from 3-5 p.m. Friday at Boyle Funeral Home, 322 Main Ave., Weston. The funeral service will be held at 5 p.m. Friday at the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Joseph Shreve officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview cemetery at Berlin.
Lydine H. Martin
WESTOVER -- Lydine Hardin Martin, 64, of 4010 West Ridge Drive, died Saturday, May 23, 1998, at Monongalia General Hospital.
She was born Sept. 25, 1933, in Alum Bridge, the daughter of McClure and Lucille Titus Hardin, Westover.
Surviving are her husband, James C. Martin; three daughters, Cathy Martin and Kamilla Martin, both of Morgantown, Keely and her husband, Larry Mench, Westover; two sons and daughters-in-law, James and Lisa Martin, Columbus, Ohio, and Michael and Heather Martin, Herndon, Va.; and seven grandchildren, Alexandra, Blake, Matthew, Tyler, Aubrey, Casey and Mason.
Mrs. Martin was a 1951 graduate of Morgantown High School and a 1955 graduate of West Virginia University with a bachelor of science degree in education. She was a home economics-art teacher in the Madison, Ohio school system for 29 years.
She was a member of the Ohio Education Association, the American Association of University Women and the Chapel United Methodist Church. Following retirement she and her husband returned to Westover, where she was a member of the Westover United Methodist Church and Fairheights Garden Club.
Charles G. McCune
PENNSBORO -- Charles G. McCune, 63, of Pennsboro, died Monday, May 25, 1998, at his residence.
He was born Sept. 9, 1934, in Charleston, a son of the late Oristis T. and Hazel McCune.
In the past, Mr. McCune had made his home with his surviving cousins, Barbara Hurst, David and Matthew Galloway and Michele Freeland, and one aunt, Madalyn Powell, all of Parkersburg.
He was also preceded in death by his uncle and aunt, Burt and Molly Payne, with whom he also made his home for many years.
Mr. McCune had been employed by the Pennsboro Glass Company, Pennsboro, and Mid Atlantic Glass of Ellenboro for many years. He was an avid fan and booster of all Ritchie County sports.
Regina Murphy
MILWAUKIE, Ore. -- Regina "Jeanie" Murphy, of Gladstone, Ore., died Tuesday, May 5, 1998, at her residence.
She was born Feb. 14, 1948, in Clarksburg, a daughter of Betty Seckman, Clarksburg.
Her husband, Carl Murphy, whom she married March 11, 1967 in Campbell, Calif. survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Kelly Murphy-Wou, Puyallup, Wash.; one son, Rian Murphy, Gladstone; one brother, Jerry Seckman, Sacramento, Calif.; one grandson, Kyle Wou, Puyallup, and her grandfather, Harold Lantz, Clarksburg.
Mrs. Murphy was an administrative assistant for Deloitte and Touche Accounting Firm. She was a member of Tri-City Baptist Temple.
SHINNSTON -- Phyllis May Perry, 87, of Haywood Road, died at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 26, 1998, at her home following an extended illness.
She was born March 1, 1911, in Lumberport, a daughter of the late Alfred F. and Cora Elizabeth Poling Satterfield.
Her husband of 69 years, Glenn B. Perry, survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Margaret L. Ashcraft and her husband, Paul W., Haywood Road; three grandchildren, Michael Glenn Ashcraft and his wife, Vicki, Mark Patrick Ashcraft, and Pamela Ashcraft Spagnuolo and her husband, Anthony, all of Haywood Road; three great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter; two nieces, one nephew, and several cousins.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas and George Satterfield, and one nephew, Tommy Satterfield.
Mrs. Perry was a homemaker and Christian. She was a member of Lamberts Run United Methodist Church and a former member of the Haywood United Methodist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher and treasurer for 40 years.
Friends will be received after 2 p.m. today at Harmer Funeral Home in Shinnston. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Ralph Wykoff officiating. Interment will follow in Shinnston Masonic cemetery.
Genevieve Phillips
BUCKHANNON -- Genevieve Howard Phillips, 94, of Holbrook Nursing Home, died Wednesday, May 27, 1998, in St. Joseph's Hospital.
She was born May 7, 1904, in Buckhannon, a daughter of the late A.A. Hyre and Rosemary Hafstetter Hyre.
Her husband, Sewell Clare Phillips, preceded her in death on Dec. 30, 1976.
Surviving are one brother, Dr. Richard Hyre, Huntington.
She was also preceded in death by one sister, Goldie Neely.
