David A. Brutto

David A. Brutto, 55, of 5124 West 120th Place, Alsip, Ill., died Friday, April 2, 1999, at his home following a brief illness. He was born Oct. 19, 1943, in Grafton, a son of Anna Lee Ellers Brutto, Grafton, and the late Louis Richard Brutto.
His wife, Dawn Signore Brutto, survives.

Also surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Douglas and Angela Brutto Latta, Grafton; one sister, Leanna Brutto Moore, Westminster, Md.; one sister-in-law, Donna Clark Brutto, Mableton, Ga.; three nieces, Lisa Mauller Simon and Tara Moore, both of Westminster, and Terry Brutto Zafirris, Baltimore, Md.; two nephews, Tony Mauller, Westminster, and John Moore, Washington, D.C.; and nine great-nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Connie McDaniel Brutto, in 1966, and one brother, Richard Brutto.

Mr. Brutto was a painting contractor by trade and president of Union Colors Inc. He was a member of the Painter's Union of Chicago, Ill.

His body was cremated. VanHenkelum Funeral Home in Palos Heights, Ill., was in charge of arrangements.
At the request of the family, donations can be sent in his memory to: Horizon Hospice, 833 W. Chicago Ave., Chicago, Ill., 60622, or to one's local hospice group.

Myrtle E. Corbin

FAIRMONT -- Myrtle Ethel Rudy Corbin, 94, of Fairmont, East Grafton Road, died Friday, April 9, 1999, at her home.
She was born in Marion County, East Grafton Road near Morgan's Cross Road, March 21, 1905, a daughter of the late George and Ida Morgan Rudy. Her husband, Joseph E. Corbin, whom she married Feb. 10, 1922, preceded her in death on July 18, 1960.

Surviving are five sons and four daughters-in-law, William "Bill" and Nancy Corbin, Alfred and Joann Corbin, Randall "Randy" Corbin, all of Fairmont, Edwin "Buggs" and Sunday Corbin, Fort Worth, Texas, and Fred and Narlene Corbin, Brunswick, Ohio; five daughters and sons-in-law, Fairy and Clarence Franks, Ruth and Howard Harris, Edith and Russell Stacy, Karen and Ronald Chickerell, all of Fairmont, and June and Virgil Smith, Grafton, Ohio; one brother, Morgan Rudy, Goose Creek near Fairmont; 25 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by one son, Wayman Corbin; one daughter, Dorla Phillips; two children in infancy and two sisters, Olive Rudy and an infant sister.

Mrs. Corbin was a homemaker. She was a member of the Quiet Dell Baptist Church and taught Sunday school for many years. She enjoyed gardening and growing flowers.

Jeannette E. Dunlap

PINE GROVE -- Jeannette E. Dunlap, 86, of Jacksonburg, died Thursday, April 8, 1999, at Wetzel County Hospital, New Martinsville. She was the daughter of the late John B. and Verletta M. O'Dell Morris. Her husband, Howard H. "Jake" Dunlap, preceded her in death on Oct. 27, 1996.

Surviving are two sons, Franklin P. "Bud" Dunlap, Fort Myers, Fla., and William H. "Bill" Dunlap, St. Clairsville, Ohio; one daughter, Mrs. John (Elsie) Isiminger, Wheeling; four sisters, Mary Jane Hayes, Jacksonburg, Mable Copenhaver, Weirton, Merle McIntire, Parkersburg, and Pearl Hayes, Brookfield, Ohio; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by one son, James "Jim" Dunlap; three brothers, William Morris, Calvin Morris and James Morris; and two sisters, Thelma Prunty and Ethel Myers.

Mrs. Dunlap was a member of the Jacksonburg Church of Christ.

Susie L. Freeman

BRIDGEPORT -- Susie L. Freeman, 76, of Rosemont, died Thursday, April 8, 1999, following an extended illness.
She was born Nov. 24, 1922, in Clarksburg, a daughter of the late John Westley and Lelia Gray Freeman.

Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Odessia and Darrell Richards, Charleston; one granddaughter, Lelia Anne Richards, Charleston; one brother and sister-in-law, Charles A. and Roberta Freeman, Rosemont; two sisters, Grace A. Freeman, Clarksburg, and Bertha Younger, Brockton, Mass.; several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Warren G., Westley and Wilbert Freeman and three sisters, Elizabeth King, Emma Blakley and Florence Freeman.

She was last employed at O.J. Morrison Department Store as an elevator operator and later did domestic work. She was a 1941 graduate of Kelly Miller High School and was a lifetime member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church. She served as a secretary for the Sunday School and the Daughters of Zion Auxiliary of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church. She also served the church in many other capacities in her younger years.

Friends will be received from 5-9 p.m. Sunday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Ave., Bridgeport. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. David A. Kates officiating. Her body will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Stonewall Park cemetery.

Ella M. Isherwood

BRIDGEPORT -- Ella Mae Isherwood, 79, of Vermont Avenue, Clarksburg, died Friday, April 9, 1999, at her home.
She was born Oct. 4, 1919, in Rockford, a daughter of the late Dorsey B. Talbott and Bernice O. Talbott. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Isherwood, in 1983.

Surviving are one daughter, Pamela S. Wilson, Clarksburg; two sisters-in-law, Ruth A. Talbott, Lost Creek, and Nina Talbott, Mansfield, Ohio; several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, R. Bernard and Hayward B. Talbott and one infant sister, Dorothy June Talbott.

Mrs. Isherwood worked for several area businesses including Reynolds Transportation, Standard Supply, Pettrey's Shoe Store, and Miley's Hobby Shop. She was a member of Rockford United Methodist Church.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Ave., Bridgeport. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Leon Hevener officiating. Interment will follow in Rockford cemetery.

Hillery F. Spaur

WESTON -- Hillery F. Spaur, 88, of 1231 12th St., Weston, died at 9:20 p.m. Thursday, April 8, 1999, at Fairmont Arbors Nursing Home, Fairmont, following an extended illness. He was born May 28, 1910, in Falls Mills, a son of the late Floyd C. and Lou Setta McClain Spaur. He was twice married, first to Reta Mae Cunningham for 50 years, and on Aug. 2, 1991, he married Roma Keene, who preceded him in death on Feb. 21, 1999.

Surviving are one sister, Tillie Hicks, Audra; three stepsons, one stepdaughter and several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.

Mr. Spaur was a retired carpenter and a lifetime member of the West Virginia Grand Lodge No. 10 of Weston, A.F.&A.M.
Friends will be received from 12:30-2 p.m. today at the Floyd Funeral Home, 422 Main Ave. in Weston. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Earl Cayton officiating. Interment will follow in McCutcheon Chapel cemetery.

Charles R. Starkey

PHILIPPI -- Charles Roscoe Starkey, 45, of Brownton, died Friday, April 9, 1999, at his home following an unexpected illness. He was born July 22, 1953, in Brownton, a son of John William Starkey, who survives in Brownton, and the late Eva Leola Glover Starkey.

Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Tim (Michelle) Stubenbordt, Galloway; one son, Charles Starkey and fiance, Renelda Waugaman, Philippi; his former wife, Edith Foster Starkey, Astor community; three brothers, Richard Starkey and Willard Lee Starkey, both of Brownton, and Robert Glen Starkey, Philippi; six sisters, Wanetta Rosier, Estella Mae Farris, Ethel Mae Foster, Sherry Ketterman and Charlotte Darlene Farris, all of Brownton, Kelly Rose Kovar, Shinnston; three grandchildren, Shaana Stubenbordt, Galloway, and Tyler Brock and Travis Starkey, both of Philippi.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, John W. Starkey Jr. and an infant brother.

Mr. Starkey was a coal miner.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at the Stemple & Forman Funeral Home in Philippi.

Luella C. Ward

BUCKHANNON -- Luella C. Ward, 99, of 11 Fairlawn Drive, Buckhannon, died at 9:30 a.m. Friday, April 9, 1999, at her home. She was born Sept. 2, 1899, in Galion, Ohio, a daughter of the late John M. Clements and Sarah Sohreck Clements. Her husband, Raymond R. Ward, whom she married March 31, 1939, preceded her in death on May 1, 1988.

Surviving are one daughter, Beatrice Gibson, San Francisco, Calif.; and one nephew, J. Lewis Ward, Buckhannon.

Mrs. Ward was a homemaker and a member of the Buckhannon Country Club. She was an officer of Raycraft, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio, selling advertising specialties of Mr. Ward's own design nationally.

Eleanor M. Bland

MORGANTOWN -- Eleanor Marie Bland, 65, of Route 1, Bristol, died Thursday, April 8, 1999, at Charleston Area Medical Center, Memorial Division, Charleston.

She was born Nov. 1, 1933, in Harrison County, a daughter of the late Hayward and Lucille Runion Scott.
Her husband, Franklin D. Bland, preceded her in death in 1994.

Surviving are four sons, Thomas R. Bland, Woodbine, N.J., Gary F. Bland, Salem, Ledge A. Bland, Somers Point, N.J., and Ronald R. Bland, Bristol; one foster son, Dennis Burkhammer, Bristol; two brothers, Thomas Scott and Fred Scott, both of West Milford; one sister, Janet Bland, Clarksburg; 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Thomas G. Brake

FRENCH CREEK -- Thomas Gay Brake, 84, of Route 2, French Creek, died at 8 p.m. Sunday, April 11, 1999, at St. Joseph's Hospital. He was born March 26, 1915, in Rock Cave, a son of the late Lee Brake and Nevada Catherine Crawford Brake.
His wife, Nona Maxine McKisic Brake, preceded him in death.

Surviving are one son, Thomas L. Brake, Salisbury, Md.; one grandson, Jeffery Michael Brake, Madison, Wis.; six sisters, Martha Brake and Catherine Craig, both of Route 1, Crawford, Loretta Walden, Fairmont, Rosemary Bean, Summersville, Geraldine Smith, Clarksburg, and Agnes Smith, Buckhannon; several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Mrs. Maude Porter and one brother, Calvin Brake.

Mr. Brake was a member of Moose Lodge No. 598, Buckhannon. He was Protestant.

Alice M. Butler

PINE GROVE -- Alice M. Butler, 76, of Wellsburg, formerly of Reader, died Sunday, April 11, 1999, at her home.
She was born March 12, 1923, in Wetzel County, a daughter of the late James Quincy and May Ann "Molly¨ Eastham Butler.

Surviving are several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by five brothers, Melvin Butler, Albert Butler, Pete Butler, Esther Butler and Curt Butler and one sister, Edith Henthorne.

Mrs. Butler was retired from Corning Glass Company of Paden City and a member of the Eight Mile Church of Christ.

Freda Griffin

SALEM -- Freda Griffin, 94, of Clarksburg Continuous Care Center, formerly of Randolph Terrace Apartments, died Sunday evening, April 11, 1999, at United Hospital Center, Clarksburg. She was born March 31, 1905, in Brown, a daughter of the late James and Rosetta Robinson Griffin.

Surviving are one sister, Vista Hudnall, Sumter, S.C.; several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers.

Ms. Griffin graduated from Salem College in 1928 and taught school at Dola and in Doddridge County. She was a member of the Salem United Methodist Church and the Tawasi-Trainer-Willing Workers Sunday school class.
