Jazmine N. Jefferson

FAIRMONT -- Jazmine Nichole Jefferson, infant daughter of Rudolph and Sandra Payne Jefferson Jr., Fairmont, died Sunday, April 11, 1999, at her home. She was born Nov. 8, 1998, in Fairmont.

Also surviving are her maternal grandparents, Henry and Marlene Talkington Griffith, Clarksburg; her paternal grandparents, Rudolph and Yolanda Link Jefferson Sr., Fairmont; her paternal great-grandparents, Audrey and Patricia Evans Link; one brother, Eric Dupree, and one sister, Justice Marie Jefferson, both at home; her godfather, Mike Cottingham, Chesapeake; her godmother, Rochelle Barker, Shinnston; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Rev. John B. Manchino

SHINNSTON -- Rev. John B. Manchino, 73, a resident of St. Barbara's Nursing Home, Monongah, formerly of Little Rock and Helena, Ark., died Sunday, April 11, 1999, in Fairmont General Hospital, Fairmont, following an extended illness.
He was born Feb. 13, 1926, in Erie, a son of the late Salvatore and Mary Teresa Ferrise Manchino.

Surviving are two nephews, Leonard E. "Gene¨ Papa and wife, Annis, Clarksburg, and Carmen Anthony Papa II, Bluefield; two nieces, Sue Papa, Meadowbrook, and Terry Jean Papa, Clarksburg; one stepbrother, Romey Serafini; three great-nephews, one great-niece, two great-great-nieces and one great-great-nephew.

He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Russo and Angeline "Angie¨ Papa, one brother, Leonard Manchino and one niece, Mary Teresa Papa.

Rev. Manchino was ordained from St. John's Seminary in Little Rock, on May 29, 1965 and pastored St. Mary's Catholic Church in Helena. He was involved in missionary work in Morelia, Mexico, where he worked in the Mexican Mountain Missions.
His passion was working with the remote, poverty stricken villages of Mexico, where he served for over 20 years.

Friends may call at Dorsey Funeral Home, Shinnston, from 5-9 p.m. today. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the St. Ann's Catholic Church in Shinnston with the Rev. Father Karl Wohinc as celebrant. The rosary will be recited in the funeral home at 7 p.m. today. Interment will be in the Calvary cemetery, Little Rock.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Feed the Children, P.O. Box 36, Oklahoma City, Okla., 73101.

Mildred G. McKeown

Mildred Grace McKeown, 91, formerly of Chiefton Hill, Wilsonburg community, died Sunday, April 11, 1999, in a local nursing home following an extended illness. She was born March 3, 1908, in Doddridge County, a daughter of the late Wyatt T. "Mike¨ and Mary Hickman McKeown.

Surviving are one niece, Rosalyn Hayes, Clarksburg; one nephew, William Haney, Lyle, Minn.; several other nieces and nephews.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, having also been preceded in death by one brother, George McKeown and four sisters, Mrs. Daisy Piatt, Mrs. Stella Nutter, Mrs. Audra Haney and Miss Beatrice "Nell¨ McKeown.

Mrs. McKeown was a retired sales clerk from G.C. Murphy with 25 years of service. She was a lifelong resident of the Wilsonburg community and a member of the Reynoldsville Baptist Church.

Friends may call Davis Funeral Home, 443 W. Pike St., from 7-9 p.m. today. The funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. O.D. Harman officiating. Interment will be in the Greenlawn Masonic cemetery.

Arlene E. McKitrick

Arlene Elizabeth Lopez McKitrick of Wichita, Kan., formerly of Clarksburg, died Sunday, March 28, from injuries sustained in a single-car accident on Interstate 15 near Idaho Falls, Idaho. She was born in Clarksburg, Dec. 20, 1940, a daughter of Rose M. Oliverio Lopez, who survives in Clarksburg, and the late Sam J. Lopez.

Surviving are two daughters, Sheila Prather and husband, Brian, Great Falls, Mont., and Mary McKitrick, Wichita; one son, Cal McKitrick, California; three granddaughters, Alex Prather, Great Falls, Jamie and Michaela McKitrick, both of Wichita; one grandson, Tom McKitrick, Colorado; nine brothers and sisters, David, Frances and Vincent Lopez, Linda Parsley and Sherry Walter, all of Clarksburg, Frank Lopez, Fairmont, John Lopez and Donna Fragale, both of Bridgeport, and Sammie Rose Jensen, Greenwood, S.C.

Mrs. McKitrick and her husband worked with their volunteer group building a church on the Papago Indian Reservation in Idaho.
She was recently honored with the award for outstanding service from the Eastminster Presbyterian Church for years of dedicated service and was referred to as "the hat lady" by the children of the congregation.

A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. May 19 at All Saints Catholic Church in Bridgeport. Memorials have been established with: Eastminster Presbyterian Church, 1958 North Webb Road, Wichita, KS, 67206, or American Diabetes Association, 3210 East Douglas, Wichita, KS, 67208.

Opal S. Moore

SHINNSTON -- Opal Straight Moore, 97, of Jones Run, Lumberport, died Saturday, April 10, 1999, at the Mississippi University Medical Center. She had recently moved to Jackson, Miss., to live with her daughter, Virginia C. Walker, due to failing health.
She was born Oct. 2, 1901, in Seven Pines, a daughter of the late Jacob W. and Dilemma Campbell Straight. In 1927, she married Clarence E. Moore, who preceded her in death in June 1969.

Surviving are one daughter, Virginia C. Walker, Jackson; four great-nephews, Charles, Richard, David and Robert Straight and one great-niece, Janice Bloodworth. She was the last surviving member of her family, having been also preceded in death by four brothers.

Mrs. Moore was a successful sales manager for Stanley Home Products and was a past worthy matron of the Eastern Star.
She recently received recognition as a 60-year member of the West Virginia Extension Homemakers Council and was skilled in needle work.

Friends may call at Harmer Funeral Home, Shinnston, from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Toni Beecher officiating. Interment will follow in the Shinnston Masonic cemetery.

Irene Z. Wotring

BUCKHANNON -- Irene Zirkle Wotring, 79, of Route 2, Box 165, died Sunday, April 11, 1999, at her home. She was born Dec. 6, 1919, in Cassity, a daughter of the late Gordon Zirkle and Blanche Chewning Zirkle. Her husband, Henry Richard Wotring, whom she married in 1936, preceded her in death in 1977.

Surviving are one daughter, Betty Sipe, McGaheysville, Va.; two sons, Stanley Harold Wotring, Clarksburg, and Dewey Wotring, LaGrange, Ky.; eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Gertrude Smith, Cassity, Zelda George, Norton, and Leota Metzbower, Baltimore, Md.; and two brothers, Clates Zirkle, Norton, and French Zirkle, Coalton.

She was also preceded in death by one son, Gary Roy Wotring, five brothers, Ralph, Ira, Narl, Foreman Ben and Harley and one sister, Loroe Zirkle.

Mrs. Wotring was a homemaker and was Christian.

Nina J. Blake

JANE LEW -- Nina Jean Blake, 50, died Tuesday, April 13, 1999, in United Hospital Center following an extended illness. She was born March 28, 1949, in Baltimore, Md., a daughter of the late Mark Clio Blake and Lita Vivian Tinney Blake.

Surviving are one sister, Mrs. Patricia Richards, Clarksburg; one brother, Matthew Wade Blake, Richmond, Ky.; four nieces; one nephew, four great-nieces and one great-nephew; her paternal grandmother, Mrs. Mary Genevieve Barb, Route 1, Salem; two uncles, Paul E. Blake, Route 1, Salem, and Jack R. Blake, Thurmont, Md.; and one aunt, Mrs. Mary Jean Berg, Route 2, Jane Lew. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Charolette June Blake.

Mrs. Blake was a member of the Broad Run Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Morris Funeral Home, Jane Lew. The funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Joseph N. Busch officiating. Interment will follow in the Broad Run cemetery.

Ray E. Helmick

GLENVILLE -- Ray E. Helmick, 83, of Sand Fork, died at 9:28 a.m. Tuesday, April 13, 1999, at Sand Fork following an unexpected illness. He was born Jan. 8, 1918, in Gilmer County, a son of the late Scott and Myrtle Williams Helmick.
His wife, Rachel Ann Cottrill Helmick, whom he married Feb. 3, 1951, preceded him in death on May 24, 1987.

Surviving are one daughter, Joyce Ann Carpenter, Webster Springs; one sister, Irene Conrad, Glenville; three grandchildren, Christopher Arnold, Sand Fork, Jasmine Morton and Michael Carpenter, both of Webster Springs; one great-grandchild. He was also preceded in death by four brothers.

Mr. Helmick was a retired coal miner, a World War II Army veteran and was Protestant.

Winoma L. LePon

Winoma L. LePon, 84, of Cheektowaga, N.Y., formerly of Clarksburg, died Monday, April 12, 1999, in The Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, Amherst. She was born Dec. 12, 1914, in Clarksburg, a daughter of the late Jesse and Bertha Maxwell LeMasters. Her husband, Russell LePon, preceded her in death.

Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Mary Frances Eckl, Cheektowaga; two brothers, Carl "Happy" LeMasters and wife, Mildred, Clarksburg, and Donald LeMasters and wife, Mamie, California; five grandchildren, Thomas and Theresa Eckl, Joseph and Nancy Eckl, Cheryl and John Deth, John Eckl, and Elizabeth and Mark Stahl; and several nieces and nephews, one of whom is Karen and Steve Fankhauser. She was also preceded in death by one son-in-law, Edward Eckl and other brothers and one sister. Mrs. LePon was Catholic and a retired secretary for Dr. Greer, formerly of Clarksburg.

Friends will be received at Davis-Weaver Funeral Home, 329 E. Main St., from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today. Catholic burial rites will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Father John McDonough conducting the service. Interment will follow in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.

A biblical prayer service will be held at the funeral home at 7:30 p.m. today.

Richard K. Shahan

BELINGTON -- Richard Keith Shahan, 61, of Route 1, Belington, died Monday, April 12, 1999, at his home. He had been in declining health but death was unexpected. He was born April 13, 1937, in Philippi, a son of the late Hester and Mae Violet Wagner Shahan. His first wife, the former Shelby Turner, survives in Baltimore, Md. His second wife, the former Shirley Foltz, survives in Belington.

Also surviving are one son, Richard Shahan Jr., Baltimore; five daughters, Donna Canchanya and Debbie McNeill, both of Baltimore, Rosemary Santana, Grafton, Deanna Shahan and Darlene Vest, both of Belington; three stepdaughters, Helen Manqueros, Ontario, Calif., Donna Blanchard and Paula Hackathorn, both of Wheeling; two stepsons, Jesse Clear, Wheeling, and Russell Clear, Cincinnati, Ohio; two brothers, Carl Lee Shahan, Belington, and Robert James Shahan, Las Vegas, Nev.; five sisters, Delores Bradshaw, Maryland, Nellie Ray Besze, Stattsburg, N.Y., Patricia Ann Myers, Drytavern, Pa., and Avonelle Church and Isabelle Faison, both of Corbin, Ky.; eight grandchildren and 19 stepgrandchildren. He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Brenda Shahan and one sister, Nancy Vose.

Mr. Shahan was a retired roofer. He was a member of the Midway Apostolic Church and enjoyed tinkering with small engines and country and western music.
