Charles Litchfield

Charles Delbert Litchfield, 76, of Apple Grove, WV, died Monday, April 25, 2005, at home after a long illness. He was born May 8, 1928 in Southside, WV, a son to the late James Robert Litchfield and Kate Putney Litchfield. He was a retired laborer for Mallable Iron in Point Pleasant and attended Hambrick Church in Southside, WV. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, James and Buster Litchfield, one half-sister, Mae Mayes.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Ina Flory Litchfield; and sons and daughter-in-law Robert and Shirley Litchfield of Milton, WV, Tucker and Cindy of Apple Grove, WV, and one daughter, Sara Sammarco of Apple Grove, WV. Also survived by grandchildren, Tina, Charlie Litchfield, Mary Clark, Katie Litchfield, Brittany Sammarco, one sister-in-law, Rennee Litchfield of Apple Grove, WV. The funeral services were conducted on Thursday, April 28, 2005, at the Hambrick Church in Southside, with the Rev. Larry Chapman and Joey Birchfield officiating. Burial in the church cemetery. Deal Funeral Homewas in charge of arrangements.

A special thanks to Stanley and Faye Denny and David Stover for always being there when we needed you. Also, a heartfelt thanks to Hospice of Point Pleasant, WV, and Dr. Ed Ayers for taking such good care of Delbert and us. May God bless you all.

Pallbearers were: Charlie Litchfield, Mike Flory, Benny Edwards, Stanley Denny, David Stover, Ronald Flory.

Paige Lee Cunningham

Paige Lee Cunningham, 41, of Hurricane died Tuesday, May 3, 2005, at home.

He was a member of Ironworkers Local 843, Greensboro, North Carolina, and NTL Boiler makers Local 667. He was a graduate of Comon Ark Welding School, Cleveland, Ohio, and a lifelong resident of Hurricane.

Surviving: children, Danielle Lee Christie of Cross Lanes, Corey Paige Cunningham of Hurricane and Amanda Lee Cunningham of Warrenton, Virginia; stepdaughter, Autumn Michelle McClelland of Hurricane; parents, Harold and Janet Cunningham of Hurricane; sister and brother-in-law, Cliff and Joanie Cunningham of Hurricane; grandchildren, Dylan and Lylian Elkins of Cross Lanes; many nieces, nephews and friends.

Service was held Friday, May 6, 2005, at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, with Pastor Harold Richards officiating. Burial was in Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane.

Catherine Jenkins

Catherine Jenkins, 50, of Poca died May 2, 2005, at St. Mary's Medical Center, Huntington.

Surviving: husband, Bernard Jenkins; sons, Joseph Jenkins and Kevin McCallister of Poca; daughter, Tammy Jenkins of South Charleston; brothers, Bob Wick of Hurricane, Charles, Mike and Edward McCallister, all of Scott Depot.

Graveside service was held Friday, May 6, 2005, at Sunset memorial Park, South Charleston, with the Rev. Chester France officiating. Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, was in charge of arrangements.

Linda Lou Cossin

Linda Lou Cossin, 57, of Leon died May 4, 2005.

Service was held Saturday, May 7, 2005, at Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo. Burial was in Mount Tabor Cemetery on Gunville Ridge.

Delano E. Bradley

Delano E. Bradley, 67, of Hurricane died Tuesday, May 3, 2005, after a heart attack.

He was a graduate of Dunbar High School and served his country for eight years in the United States Marine Corps. He was a boilermaker for 35 years out of Local 667, Winfield, and was a member of Providence Baptist Church, where he was a Sunday school teacher and a soul winner.

Surviving: his wife of 44 years, Ruby Fields Bradley; daughter and husband, Vickie and Jacob Chapman of Hurricane; sons and wives, Matt and Marjorie Bradley of Hurricane, Travis and Jessica Bradley of Dunbar; brothers, Leo Bradley of Florida and Charles Bradley of Hurricane; grandchildren, Tara and Autumn Bradley, J.B., Travis Delano and Caleb Bradley, Chad and J.R. Workman.

Service was held Saturday, May 7, 2005, at the Bradley's farm in Hurricane with Pastor Frank Chapman and Pastor Claude Spurlock officiating. Burial was in John Beane Cemetery, Sissonville. Cunningham-Parker-Johnson Funeral Home, Charleston, was in charge of arrangements.

Earl Lee Richard

Earl Lee Richard, 82, of Winfield died on Thursday, May 5, 2005, at Putnam General Hospital following a long illness.

He was born August 5, 1922 to the late Howard and Nora Stricklen Richard. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Helen Legg, and a brother, John Richard.

He spent three years in the U.S. Army, serving in the South Pacific during World War II. He retired from the Shippers Car Division of ACF Industries after 31 years of service.

Surviving: his wife of 59 years, Mary Whitt Richard; children and their spouses, Dennis and Renee Richard of Claymont, Delaware, John and Melanie Richard of Marietta, Ohio, Jennifer Ann and Juan Suarez of La Place, Louisiana; grandchildren, Bryce Richard of Dagsboro, Delaware, Charles Richard of New York, NY, Emily Richard of Marietta, and Juan Joseph, Tony, Daniel, Angela, David and Matthew Suarez of La Place; great-grandchildren, Preston, Cierra and Seth Richard, all of Dagsboro; sister-in-law, Pauline Richard of Castlewood, Virginia; nephew, John Bayer Richard of Columbus, Ohio.

Service was held Monday, May 9, 2005, at Chapman Funeral Home, Winfield, with the Rev. E. Ted Wall and the Rev. Doug McComas officiating. Burial was in Mount Union United Methodist Church Cemetery, Pliny.

Susan E. Wilson

Susan Elizabeth Wilson, 27, of Cross Lanes, formerly of Poca, died peacefully in her sleep on May 2, 2005, after a courageous battle with liver and kidney disease.

She was a graduate of Winfield High School, where she played in the band. A graduate of Centre College, she earned a BA in Psychology, was president of her service organization there and received the top honor for outstanding student research in Psychology.

At Marshall University, she earned a MA in Psychology and a graduate certificate in behavioral statistics. She was studying school psychology at Marshall University Graduate College at the time of her death.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Arthur and Martha Merrilees, and Robert Wilson.

Surviving: parents, Doctors Robert and Nancy Wilson; brother, Scott; grandmother, Margaret Wilson; numerous family and friends.

A private family service will be held at a later date. Gatens-Harding Funeral Home, Poca, was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Sojourners, 1114 Quarrier Street, Charleston WV 25301, to support shelters for women and children, or to a charity of choice.

Evelyn I. Smith

Evelyn Imogene Morris Smith, 85, of Eleanor died Saturday, May 7, 2005, at Thomas Memorial Hospital following a long illness.

She was a nursing aide for Thomas Memorial Hospital with 15 years of service, a homemaker, and a member of First Baptist Church of Eleanor.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Oren William Smith Jr., one daughter, two brothers, and two sisters.

Surviving: daughters, Reva Jean Meadows and Avis Newman, both of Eleanor; sons, Larry Oren Smith and Dallas Smith, both of Buffalo, Marvin Smith of Red House, and James Morris Smith of Huntington; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren.

Service was held Wednesday, May 11, 2005, at Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo, with the Rev. James Kessick and Payton Newman officiating. Burial was in Beech Grove Cemetery, Eleanor.

Jane Ellen Boham

Jane Ellen Boham of Poca, died May 5, 2005, at CAMC General Hospital after a sudden massive stroke.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Donald W. Boham, and her parents, Ralph Dudley Hansell and LaVaun "Bonnie" Moon Hansell of Springfield, Ohio.

She was born November 9, 1921 in Springfield. She attended Elmood Elementary and Shaffer Junior High School before graduating from Springfield High School in 1939. In 1943 she graduated from Wittenberg College where she was a member of Delta Zeta sorority. She briefly taught high school business education classes in Chilothe, Ohio until leaving to marry.

Surviving: children and their families, daughter, Patra "Penny" Golden of Poca, granddaughter, Karen Golden Abuzahra and husband, Ammar, their son, Ahmad of San Diego, California; daughter, Kendra Diaz and husband, Neftali, and grandsons, Sean and Donovan, of Clearbrook, Virginia; son, Kevin Boham and wife, Anne, of Corydon, Indiana, and grandsons, John Stone, his wife, Heather, and their children, Max and Madline of San Francisco, and Derek Stone and his wife, Lisa, of Lewisburg WV; and cats, Freddie, Sammie, Jodie, and Little Sissie.

A memorial celebration was held Saturday, May 14, 2005, at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of the Kanawha Valley, Charleston, with Mel Hoover and Rose Eddington, co-ministers of the Fellowship, assisting. Gatens-Harding Funeral Home, Poca, was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to your local animal shelter or humane society.

Duard Fuller Baumgardner

Duard Fuller Baumgardner, 86, of Culloden, widower of Madeline Frances Baumgardner, died Tuesday, May 3, 2005 at his daughter's home. Funeral services were conducted Friday, May 6, 2005 at Chapman's Mortuary, Huntington; burial in Spring Hill Cemetery, Huntington.

Frances Marie Chaney

Frances Marie Chaney, 82, of Milton went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, May 3, 2005, in Mariner Health of Huntington. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, May 5, 2005, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with Pastor Paul Meadows officiating. Burial in Culloden Cemetery. She was born April 9, 1923, in Lincoln County, a daughter of the late Charles and Laura Estep McComas. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Harry Chaney; two sons, Gary Lee Chaney and Charles W. Chaney; and a step-grandson, David McCallister. She was a member of Beulah Ann Baptist Church, Ona, and loved her pastor, Paul Meadows with all her heart. She is survived by two step-daughters, Freda (Don) Chapman and Sylvia (Joe) Neal of Milton; one stepson Robert (Frances) Chaney of Medford, Ore.; two daughters-in-law, Carolyn Chaney of Wheelersburg, Ohio and Betty Chaney of Ona. She also leaves behind a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends.

Oda Collins

Oda Collins, 67, of Glenwood, husband of Kay Call Collins, died Monday, May 2, 2005 in St. Mary's Medical Center. He was a heavy equipment operator for Roger Gibson Home Builders, Hurricane. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, May 5, 2005 at Mount Zion Baptist Church, Fraziers Bottom; burial in Mount Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. Chapman Funeral Home, Hurricane, was in charge of arrangements.

Vada Lee Clagg Clark Conner

Vada Lee Clagg Clark Conner, 94, of Milton passed away Monday, May 2, 2005, in Lavalette, where she had lived for the past four months at the home of her daughter. Born Aug. 17, 1910, Vada was a homemaker and a member of the Chestnut Grove Church. She was the daughter of the late James and Atlanta Spurlock Clagg of Cabell County, West Virginia. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ancil T Clark; her second husband, Albert R. Conner; and her oldest son, Ancil Floyd Clark. Vada is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Lois and Lowell Cade of Lavalette; son, Delmar Lee Clark of Milton, son and daughter-in-law Bill and Mary Clark of Milton, and daughter-in-law Carmella Clark of Philadephia. Grandchildren include Rodney Clark, Randal “Randy” Clark, Lisa Clark, Carla Chapman and Nancy Simmons, all of Milton; Kevin Cade of Hurricane, Sandra Smith and Shawn Cade both of Wayne, and Vincent Clark of Philadelphia. Vada had 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Two special friends Clodene “Sally” Lewis and Elizabeth Sturgeon, both of Milton, and a host of relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, May 5, 2005 at Wallace Funeral Home, Milton, with Pastor Winford Curry officiating. Burial in the Templeton Cemetery near Milton.

Clifton Marvin Evans

Clifton Marvin Evans, 86 of Milton, W.Va., passed away May 2, 2005. He was born July 17, 1918, in Cincinnati, Ohio, a son of the late William and May Thomas Evans. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was retired from CSX Transportation. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley; sister Lucille Webster; brothers, Paul “Buster,” William “Billy,” Joseph Evans and Morris Boumer; stepbrother and stepsisters, Jack Evans, Lelia Allen and Ada Baker. He is survived by his wife, Deva Brackett; two daughters, Linda Reynolds and Karen Lasley, both of Milton, W.Va.; one son, Blane Evans of Ona, W.Va.; one sister, Ruth Morris and one brother, Kenneth Evans, both of Cincinnati; and five grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Friday, May 6, 2005, at the Hodapp Funeral Home, Cincinnati, Ohio. Burial in Arlington Memorial Gardens, Cincinnati.

Richard Lee Mayo

Richard Lee Mayo, 70, of Barboursville, W.Va., joined his heavenly Father on Saturday, April 30, 2005, in Surf Side Beach, S.C. He was born August 22, 1934, in Logan, W.Va., the son of the late Melvin and Bea Mayo. Richard proudly served his for 20 years, during which he completed two tours in Vietnam and retired as a Gunnery Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps. Preceding him in death were his sister, Donna Jean Talip, and Frank Mayo. Richard is survived by his wife, the love of his life, Blanche D. Farley Mayo. Richard and Blanche shared a unique love for 45 years. The proud father of three sons and daughters-in-law, Roger Lee and Debbie of Chauncey, W.Va., Mark of Logan W.Va., and Chris and Diane of Barboursville, W.Va. His grandchildren were his special gifts. Kristin and Matthew of Chauncey, W.Va., Amanda and Zach of North Carolina, Blake and Brook of Barboursville, W.Va.; sisters and brother-in-law, Gloria (Peewee) and Charles McCloud of Newark, 0hio and Darlene Lonker of Roanoke, Va.; special brother-in-law, Dave Farley; mother-in-law, Anna Lambert. In addition, special friends Jack and Jenny Harris, Dwight and Nelma Kestner, Gene and Doris Mays and Bill Tomblyn. Richard was a member of the Marine Corps League, past member of the The Lions Club, Barboursville. He was also a member of Lewis Memorial Baptist Church.

The celebration of his life was held Thursday, April 5, 2005, at Wallace Fuenral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, with Dr. David Lemming and Pastor Richard Sexton officiating. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Lewis Memorial Baptist Church Mission Fund.

Donna Louise Gue

Donna Louise Gue, 71 of Salt Rock, W.Va, went home to be with the Lord May 3, 2005. Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, May 6, 2005, at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, by Rev. James Jobe and Rev. Robert Adkins. Burial in Green Valley Cemetery. She was born January 15, 1934, in West Hamlin, a daughter of the late Fred and Edith Jobe. She was preceded in death by one special loving granddaughter, Candace Gue; eight brothers, Randall, Kenneth, Wetzel, Delbert, Wandell, Jack, Danny and Ted. She is survived by her husband, Orville Eugene Gue; two sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Kathy Gue and Steve and Virginia Gue, all of Salt Rock; one sister, Phyllis Harless of Salt Rock; three brothers, Jimmy Jobe of Hansford, Calif., Charles Jobe of Barboursville and Frankie Jobe of Salt Rock; three grandchildren, Todd Gue and his wife Jenny, Alex Gue and his wife Sara, and Wes Gue; three great-grandchildren, Seth, Ben and Emma; mother-in-law Pauline Gue; several nieces, nephews, friends and several special friends at Cabell Huntington Hospital Dialysis Center. Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements.

Claudy Ellis Braley

Claudy Ellis Braley, 78, of Huntington passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2005, at his residence. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, May 7, 2005, at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, by the Rev. Sue Jarrett. Burial in Oaklawn Memorial Park. He was born October 31, 1926, in Huntington, a son of the late Ebbie and Lola Martin Cummins Braley. He retired from Kraft Foods in 1985. He was a member of Pea Ridge United Methodist Church since 1938, and an active member of Fellowship Sunday School Class. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during World War II in the Pacific Arena on three ships as a signalman 2nd class. He was a member of Minerva Lodge #13 AF&AM for 57 years. He was a charter member of the Barboursville Sportsmans Club, was involved for several years with the Boy Scouts of America with Troop #62 and was a graduate of Barboursville High School. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald Lee Braley and Glenn Edward Braley. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Hankins Braley; three sons and daughters-in-law, James Edward and Sheila Braley of Ona, Thomas Ellis and Rosemary Braley of Cornelius, N.C., and Donald Lee and Shelly Braley of Huntington; sisters Edna Mae Braley of Huntington, Betty Lou Dunkle of Barboursville and Anna Faye Ray of Charleston, WVa.; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two special friends, Bob Doss and Denny Dunkle. Pallbearers were grandsons of the deceased and members of the Barboursville Sportsman Club. He had a great love for the mountains and streams of West Virginia, hunting and fishing and the “camp” in Pendleton County. Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, was in charge of arrangements.
