Margaret L. Squires

HOLIDAY, Fla. -- Margaret L. Squires, 88, of New Port Richey, Fla., died Thursday, April 15, 1999, at Heather Hill Nursing, New Port Richey. She was born in Harrison County, W.Va. Surviving are one daughter, Sandra L. Beverly, New Port Richey; two grandchildren.

She moved from Clarksburg, W.Va., to New Port Richey four years ago. She was a homemaker, Baptist, and a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose in Clarksburg.

Carroll D. Bailey

WESTON -- Carroll Duane Bailey, 64, of HC 64, Alum Bridge, died at 3:20 p.m. Friday, April 16, 1999, at Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital, Weston.

He was born March 18, 1935, in Lewis County, a son of Tom Scott, Weston, and the late Maycell Bailey. On March 5, 1954, he married Eileen Lamb Bailey, who survives.

Also surviving are four sons, Rick Bailey, Martinsburg, Richard "Dick" Bailey, Jane Lew, Roger Bailey, Front Royal, Va., and Mike Bailey, Alum Bridge; two daughters, Debbie Strope, Georgetown, and Vicky Allen, Alum Bridge; eight grandchildren; one brother, Larry Lamb, Charleston; and two sisters, Patty Beall and Saundra Lamb, both of Richmond, Va.
He was also preceded in death by one son, Michael Wayne Bailey.

Mr. Bailey was a self-employed truck driver and logger. He attended Rock Grove Baptist Church.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at the Floyd Funeral Home, 402 Main Ave., Weston. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Kenny Fisher officiating. Interment will follow in the Rock Grove cemetery in Linn.

Roxie J. Gardi

FAIRMONT -- Roxie John Gardi, 87, of Fairmont, died Saturday, April 17, 1999, at Fairmont General Hospital.
He was born May 15, 1911, in Watson, a son of the late Joseph and Sarah Cavallo Gardi.
Surviving is his wife, Rose Genovese Gardi.

Also surviving are one son, Jim Gardi and daughter-in-law, Patty, Fairmont; one sister, Barbara Araci, Michigan; two granddaughters, Annemarie Smerka and husband, Bill, Westover, Roxanne Perry and husband, Mike, Fairmont; two grandsons, Jimmy Gardi Jr., North Carolina, and David Gardi and his wife, Jennifer, Fairmont; eight great-grandchildren, Bill Smerka, Michael and Ryan Perry, Beth and Kayla Gardi, and Briella, Joel and Chandler Gardi.
He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Folio and Jean Seccreto and two brothers, Louis and Albert Gardi.

Mr. Gardi retired with 50 years of service at Fairmont Box Co. and worked at Fairmont General Hospital as a guard.
He was a life member of the Musician Union, member of Fairmont Moose, UMWA Band, and was a third degree member of the Knights of Columbus.

Friends may call at Domico Funeral Home in Fairmont from 5-9 p.m. today and noon-3 and 6-9 p.m. Monday. A Knights of Columbus ritual service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. A vigil service will be held at 8 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Peters the Fisherman Parish in Fairmont, with Father Stan Tuchalski as celebrant. Burial will follow at Mt. Carmel cemetery in Fairmont.

Loman E. Hoalcraft

WEST UNION -- Loman E. Hoalcraft, 85, a resident of the Sistersville Center Nursing Facility, Sistersville, died at 3:35 a.m. Friday, April 16, 1999, at the facility following a brief illness.

He was born on Piggins Run, West Union, a son of the late Oriles and Magnolia Pearl Smith Hoalcraft. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anne Hoalcraft, in 1993.

Surviving are two daughters, Carolyn E. Hoalcraft, West Union, and Patricia Hoalcraft, Harrisville; two sons, Eugene Hoalcraft, Ohio, and Paul Hoalcraft, California; one sister, Emza Exline, West Union; one brother, Eldon Hoalcraft, West Union; and several grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Emmet Hoalcraft, Edward Hoalcraft, Elmer Hoalcraft and Emory Hoalcraft and two sisters in infancy, Eunie June and Ruth Hoalcraft.

Mr. Hoalcraft was a self-employed farmer and a member of the West Union Church of Christ.

The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Spurgeon Funeral Home in West Union, with Brother E. Russell King officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenwood cemetery, Sistersville. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until service time on Tuesday.

Arlene E. McKitrick

Arlene Elizabeth Lopez McKitrick of Wichita, Kan., formerly of Clarksburg, died Sunday, March 28, from injuries sustained in a single-car accident on Interstate 15 near Idaho Falls, Idaho. Her husband, Bernard McKitrick, was critically injured in the accident and is recovering.

She was born in Clarksburg, Dec. 20, 1940, a daughter of the late Sam J. Lopez and Rose M. Oliverio Lopez.
Surviving are one daughter, Sheila Shumaker Prather and husband, Brian, Great Falls, Mont.; one stepdaughter, Mary McKitrick, Wichita; two stepsons, Cal McKitrick, California, and Tom McKitrick, Colorado; three granddaughters, Alex Prather, Great Falls, Jamie and Michaela McKitrick, both of Wichita; nine brothers and sisters, David, Frances and Vincent Lopez, Linda Parsley and Sherry Walter, all of Clarksburg, Frank Lopez, Fairmont, John Lopez and Donna Fragale, both of Bridgeport, and Sammie Rose Jensen, Greenwood, S.C. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Eugene Shumaker.

Mrs. McKitrick and her husband worked with their volunteer group building a church on the Papago Indian Reservation in Idaho.

She was recently honored with the award for outstanding service from the Eastminster Presbyterian Church for years of dedicated service and was referred to as "the hat lady" by the children of the congregation.

A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. May 19 at All Saints Catholic Church in Bridgeport. Memorials have been established with: Eastminster Presbyterian Church, 1958 North Webb Road, Wichita, KS, 67206, or American Diabetes Association, 3210 East Douglas, Wichita, KS, 67208.

Gwen M. Orr

SHINNSTON -- Gwen Marie Orr, 83, a resident of Wishing Well Manor, formerly of Shinnston, died at 9:05 p.m. Thursday, April 15, 1999, following an extended illness. She was born June 12, 1915, in Pickens, a daughter of the late Frank W. and Mariah Long Bryner.

Surviving are one son, John M. Orr Sr., Columbus, Ohio; one daughter, Mrs. Joe (Beverly) Paushel, Shinnston; three grandsons, Joseph Paushel, Gregory's Run, Timothy Paushel, Adamsville, and John M. Orr Jr., Ohio; and six great-grandchildren.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, having also been preceded in death by four sisters, Frankie Mahaffey, Iva Blackledge, Ina Bryner and Esta Moore and three brothers, Ralph, Theodore and Frank "Jack" Bryner.

Mrs. Orr was a school teacher, having retired from the Ohio State Teachers Association with 20 years of service. She was a graduate of Fairmont State College and attended the University of Cincinnati to complete her graduate work, specializing in Special Education. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star No. 103 in Shinnston. She was Protestant.

At the request of Mrs. Orr, there will be no public services. Dorsey Funeral Home in Shinnston is in charge of arrangements.

Alden Weaver

RICHMOND, Ohio -- Alden Weaver, 84, of Richmond, died at 12:30 a.m. Thursday, April 15, 1999, at his home.
He was born July 14, 1914, in Wandel, Taylor County, and raised in Bergholz, Ohio, a son of the late Francis M. and Mary Moats Weaver. His wife, Almeda Rose Wilbur Weaver, whom he married Sept. 16, 1942, preceded him in death on Nov. 22, 1995.

Surviving are his companion, Margaret Osborne, Steubenville; two sons, Clarence L. Weaver, Toronto, and Alden G. Weaver, Richmond; two daughters, Mrs. Leroy (Verlin L.) Randolph, Richmond, and Glenna Calhoun, Clearwater, Fla.; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Earl, Donald and Cleatus Weaver and three sisters, Anna Marie Andrews, Velva Smith and Ethel Virginia Eldert.

Mr. Weaver retired from Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel Co. in 1977 and was a member of the East Springfield Senior Citizens. He attended the Wintersville Church of the Nazarene.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at the Everhart Funeral Home, 110 West Main St., Richmond. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Dan Darulla officiating. Burial will follow in the Ft. Steuben Burial Estates, Wintersville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Valley Hospice, 1 Ross Park, Steubenville, or to the Wintersville Church of the Nazarene, Wintersville.

Patrecia L. Young

GASSAWAY -- Patrecia Lea "Toots" Young, 71, of Valdosta, Ga., formerly of Gassaway, died Wednesday, March 17, 1999, at South Georgia Medical Center following a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, James F. Young, in January of 1999.

Surviving are one daughter, Connie Y. Hoffman, Jonesboro, Ga.; two sons, Earl F. Young, Salem, and James M. Young, New Port Ritchie, Fla.; two sisters, Gertrude F. Luetscher, DeForrest, Wis., and Hazel M. Farley, Lexington, Ky.; two brothers, Ben A. Hitchcock, Belle Vernon, Pa., and Ralph S. Hitchcock, Valdosta, Ga.; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Weaver was a member of the Greenwood Baptist Church in Valdosta and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for 48 years.

A memorial service will be held at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday at the Richard M. Roach Funeral Home in Gassaway with the Rev. Mark Stump officiating. An Eastern Star service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Gassaway Baptist Church or to the Eastern Star of Gassaway.

Roger Young

PENNSBORO -- Kenneth Roger Young, 44, of Williamstown, died Friday, April 16, 1999, of natural causes prior to an automobile accident near Parkersburg. He was born June 23, 1954, in Charleston, a son of Delford L. and Opal E. Adams Young, West Union. His wife, Carla R. Hall Young, survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Manessa D. Young and Melanie L. Young, both of Williamstown; three sisters, Charlotte Lantz, Mineral Wells, Linda Coffman, New Milton, and Cindy Spaulding, Harrisville; eight nieces and three nephews.

Mr. Young had formerly been an assistant plant manager of Economy Industries of Harrisville and plant manager of Pennsboro Manufacturing of Pennsboro before entering his career as a self-employed antique dealer in operating Young's Antiques.

He was a graduate of Doddridge County High School with the class of 1972, a former member of the Ritchie County Chamber of Commerce, and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Williamstown. He enjoyed the outdoors and hunting in his spare time.

The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the McCullough-Rogers Funeral Home in Pennsboro with the Rev. Leo Farley and the Rev. John Frum officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Union cemetery on Straight Fork in Doddridge County. Friends will be received after 4 p.m. Monday and after 9 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Harry T. Burleigh II, DVM

Harry T. Burleigh II, DVM, 76, died Saturday, April 17, 1999, at his home in Clarksburg following a short illness. He was born April 3, 1923, in Washington, D.C., a son of the late Alston W. and Erma Jones Burleigh. His wife of 48 years, Mary Foster Burleigh, survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Anne E. Burleigh, Lost Creek, and Marie L. Burleigh, Clarksburg; and one son, Harry T. Burleigh III, College Park, Md.

A World War II veteran, Dr. Burleigh received degrees from Virginia State College and Tuskegee Institute. He served two years on the faculty of the Tuskegee Institute School of Veterinary Medicine before moving to Clarksburg, where he practiced veterinary medicine for 40 years.

He was an honor roll member of the American Veterinary Medical Association. He had served on the Harrison County Planning Commission, the Salem College Board of Trustees and the West Virginia University Extension Service Visiting Committee. There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that expressions of sympathy be contributions to the People's Hospice, P.O. Box 1680, Clarksburg, W.Va. 26301 or to the Tuskegee Veterinary Medical Alumni Association, P.O. Box 1303, Tuskegee, Ala., 36067. Davis-Weaver Funeral Home in Clarksburg is in charge of arrangements.

Rosalie D. Miller

BELINGTON -- Rosalie D. Miller, 75, of Route 2, Kirt community, died at 12:20 p.m. Saturday, April 17, 1999, at her home following an extended illness. She was born Oct. 26, 1923, in Grant County, a daughter of the late Clarence and Agnes Virginia Digman Lewis. On Jan. 1, 1944, she was married to Charles E. Miller, who survives.

Also surviving are two sons, David Franklin Miller, Philippi, and Paul Edward Miller, at home; three daughters, Lorena Carol Knutti, Elkins, Madonna Sue Morgan, Reader, and Paula Evelyn Carpenter, Belington; three brothers, Thomas Lewis, Philippi, Calvin Lewis, Maryland, and Bobby Atkins, Richview; two sisters, Pauline Kinder, Beckley, and Hazel Junnoe, Richview; five grandchildren, Lisa Marie Knutti, Fairmont, Charles Ray Carpenter and James Roy Carpenter, both of Belington, Sean Mark Morgan, Morgantown, and Dean Robert Morgan, Reader. She was also preceded in death by one son, Charles Emory Miller Jr. and one brother, Clarence Lewis.

Mrs. Miller was a homemaker and an avid vegetable gardener. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Laurel Mountain Post No. 410, V.F.W. and the Mount Zion Church of the Brethren.
