Marie N. Riggs

BRIDGEPORT -- Marie Nath Riggs, 83, of Route 7, Fairmont, Boothsville community, died Saturday, April 17, 1999, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown.

She was born Jan. 3, 1916, in Pittsburgh, Pa., a daughter of the late Wenzel Nath and Margaret Trost Nath. Her husband, Scott Riggs, preceded her in death. Surviving are several nieces and nephews.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, having also been preceded in death by one brother, Raymond Nath.

Mrs. Riggs was retired from Consolidated Natural Gas Co., where she was a secretary. She had also continued the operation of their farm, raising cattle in Boothsville since her retirement from the gas company and the death of her husband.

At the request of Mrs. Riggs, there will be no visitation. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Bridgeport cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, and by her request, contributions should be made to a favorite charity. Allen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Nina M. Beggs

JANE LEW -- Nina Mildred Beggs, 88, of Jane Lew, formerly of the Washington, D.C. area, died at 11:05 p.m. Sunday, April 18, 1999, in Crestview Manor. She was born Aug. 9, 1910, in Braxton County, a daughter of the late Perry A. and Anna Wimer Prince. Her husband, Lawrence Alvin Beggs, whom she married Feb. 23, 1943, preceded her in death in 1954.

Surviving are one nephew and wife, Otis Westfall Jr. and Norene Westfall; one great-nephew and wife, Lawrence O. "Larry¨ Westfall and Melissa; and one great-great-nephew, Cody Montgomery. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Sylvia Prince Westfall.

Mrs. Beggs was a 1929 graduate of Jane Lew High School and graduated from Gallenger School of Nursing of Washington as a registered nurse. She was a member of Harmony United Methodist Church.

She retired from United States government service after working for the General Services Administration of Washington, the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Md., and Navy Oceanographic in Suitland, Md.

Friends will be received at Morris Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. today. The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Ronald Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Good Hope Masonic cemetery.

Kenneth M. Cunningham

ELKINS -- Kenneth Milton Cunningham, 38, a resident of the Glady Road, Bowden, died Wednesday, April 14, 1999, while fishing at the Cheat River, near the Holly Meadow's community, Tucker County.

He was born Aug. 4, 1960, in Elkins, a son of Floyd Milton Cunningham, Alpena, and the late Dorothy Lee Isner Cunningham. On June 27, 1981, in Elkins, he was married to the former Adwina Jo "Wendy¨ Kisner, who survives.

Also surviving are one son, Casey Milton Cunningham, one daughter, Katie Jo Cunningham, both at home; four sisters, Mrs. Jim (Brenda Dianne) Stalnaker, Point Pleasant, Vicki Elaine Cunningham, Alpena, Mrs. Harold "Hum¨ (Amelia Louise) "Amy¨ Van Reenan, Elkins, Mrs. Carl (Sharon Lee) Swecker, Alpena; his father and mother-in-law, Joe and Charlene Kisner, Elkins; his grandparents-in-law, Jim and Eleanor Fletcher, Elkins; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Richard (Kala) Maddox and Mrs. Mike (Niki) Miller; five nephews, Brad Swecker, Jason Stalnaker, Josh Miller, Michael Miller and Zach Miller; three nieces, Stephanie Miller, Leiah and Brynn Maddox and several uncles, aunts and cousins.

Mr. Cunningham was a graduate of Elkins High School, class of 1978. He was an employee of United Parcel Service of Elkins since 1977 and was most currently a package car driver. He was part owner of the Rose Summit Stock Farm.

He was a member of the West Virginia Muzzleloaders Association, the Tygarts Valley Muzzleloaders Association and the Local Teamsters Union No. 175. He was Protestant.

Raymond Everson

Raymond Everson, 83, of Belington, died Sunday, April 18, 1999, in St. Joseph's Hospital in Buckhannon following an extended illness.
He was born May 26, 1915, at Junior, a son of the late Frederick and Rosa Corley Everson. On Aug. 22, 1959, at Belington he married the former Lavera Hymes, who survives at their home in Belington.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one step-daughter, Jeanne Hymes and one grandson, Fred Hymes, both of Richmond, Va.; one brother, Frederick Everson Jr. and one sister, Carrie Ross, both of Belington.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, Roland and Willard Everson; two sisters, Geneva Ware and Genevieve Bonner.
Mr. Everson attended the schools of Barbour County, served in the United States Army during World War II and fought in the Invasion of Normandy, where he received a purple heart. He was a lifelong member of the Laural Mountain Post 410 V.F.W in Belington, was retired from Crucible Steel in Midland, Pa., after 22 years and was a member of the Belington Church of Christ.

Helen M. Faris

UTICA, Mich. -- Mrs. Helen M. Faris, 86, of Utica, died Monday, April 19, 1999, at Romeo Nursing Center, Romeo, Mich. She was born Jan. 5, 1913, in Clarksburg, a daughter of Ernest L. and Mary B. Sheete Tenney.

Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Edward W. Taylor (Eleanor) Cox, Utica, Patricia Beverly, Blytheville, Ark., Mrs. Jack (Naomi Ruth) Gaines, Clarksburg, Mrs. Ernest (Barbara) Costilow, Memphis, Tenn., and Mrs. Robert (Katherine) Pumphrey, Huntington; one son, Thomas (Shirley) Faris, Red City, Mo.; 17 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Elmer "Buster¨ Tenney and one sister, Ruby G. Tenney.

Diener Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Lucy J. Keener

NEW LONDON, Ohio -- Lucy J. Duncan Keener, 93, of Clarksfield, Ohio, died Sunday, April 18, 1999, at IHS of New London at Firelands, following an extended illness. She was born July 14, 1905, in Smithville, a daughter of the late James E. and Rosella J. Flowers Hayhurst. Her first husband, Hobart Clyde Duncan and her second husband, Brooks Keener, both preceded her in death.

Surviving are one daughter, Juanita Helen Crow, Bulger, Pa.; one son and daughter-in-law, Lewis Gene and Laura Duncan, Clarksfield; one stepson, Brooks W. Keener, Hillsborough, Ohio; 23 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and many great-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by one son, Robert Dale Duncan; an infant daughter, Alma Duncan; two sisters, Maggie Ash and Ivy Hammonds and five brothers, Artie, William, Douglas, Simon and Paul Hayhurst.

Mrs. Keener had lived in West Virginia until she moved to Lorain in the mid-1970s and had lived in the Clarksfield area since 1987, residing with her son at both locations. She was a member of the Mount Clare Methodist Church in Mount Clare.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Clarksfield Methodist cemetery with the Rev. Noah Oxley of the Clarksfield United Methodist Church officiating. Eastman Funeral Home, 200 West Main St., New London is in charge of arrangements.

Fred H. Killingsworth

GLENVILLE -- Fred Hale Killingsworth, 94, of Glenville, died at 7:15 p.m. Sunday, April 18, 1999, at Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital, Weston, following an extended illness. He was born July 7, 1904, in Braxton County, a son of the late Charles O. and Mae Lowther Killingsworth. His wife, Lucy F. Wolf, whom he married on Sept. 2, 1948, preceded him in death on Feb. 19, 1973.
Surviving are one sister-in-law, Elasise Wolf, Glenville; one brother-in-law, Earl Wolf, Charleston; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mr. Killingsworth was retired from Hope Natural Gas with 43 years of service.

He was a member of Gilmer County Masonic Lodge 3118, the First Baptist Church of Glenville and the Gilmer County Masonic Lodge 3118. He was a past member of Nemesis Shrine Club, Parkersburg.

Sister Celeste McCarrick

WHEELING -- Sister Celeste McCarrick, 86, a member of the Sisters of St. Joseph, died Monday, April 19, 1999, at Mount Saint Joseph. She was born May 30, 1912, in Detroit, Mich., a daughter of the late Richard and Margaret Macguire McCarrick.

Surviving are one nephew, Richard Ziegler, Brockway, Pa.; one niece, Cathy Ziegler, Pittsburgh; and several cousins.
Sister Celeste attended Holy Name School in East Orange, N.J., and St. Peter's High School in Fairmont.

She graduated from Fairmont State College with a bachelor's degree in Latin and English. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph on July 2, 1935, and continued her education at Duquesne University, where she received her master's.

She taught in schools throughout West Virginia: St. Mary's High School in Clarksburg; St. Peter's in Fairmont; St. Joseph's in Huntington; and St. Patrick's in Weston. She was a member of the faculty of Central Catholic High School in Wheeling from 1968 to 1975. She continued on the Central staff in a substitute capacity until her retirement to Mount Saint Joseph in 1995. She maintained membership in the Young Women's Christian Association and the alumnae associations of St. Peter's, Wheeling Central Catholic, Fairmont State College and Duquesne University.

Charles R. Scott

BUCKHANNON -- Charles Richard "Scotty¨ Scott, 72, of 63 Morton Ave., died at 9 a.m. Sunday, April 18, 1999, at Presbyterian Hospital. He was born Aug. 11, 1926, in Buckhannon, a son of the late Raymond Earl Scott and Louise Royer Scott. His first wife, Anna Marie Smith Scott, whom he married in 1949, preceded him in death in 1997. His second wife, Georgia Lantz Hayes Scott, whom he married Jan. 19, 1999, survives.

Also surviving are four daughters, Charlotte Smith and Donna Eckes, both of Glady Fork, JoDell Swisher, Little Sand Run, and Mary Norris, Waynesboro, Pa.; one son, Richard Scott, Florida; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Meta Brown, Shinnston; two brothers, Danny Scott, Buckhannon, and Robert Scott, Ashtabula, Ohio; one stepson, Roscoe Lantz, Newport News, Va.; and one stepdaughter, Cora Kern, West Salem, Ohio.

Mr. Scott was a mechanic at Breckenridge and served in the Navy during World War II. He was a past member of the Independent Rock Church.

Barbara K. Singleton

SUTTON -- Barbara Kay Singleton, 55, of Chapel Route, Gassaway, died Sunday, April 18, 1999, at her home after a long illness. She was born Oct. 4, 1943, in Braxton County, a daughter of Muriel Arnold Westfall, Exchange, and the late Byrl Westfall. Her husband, Larman E. Singleton, survives.

Also surviving are one son, Jeffrey Singleton, Gassaway; two daughters, Lora Goff and Robyn Skidmore, both of Gassaway; two brothers, Brenice Westfall and Eddie Westfall, both of Exchange; three sisters, Majorie Davis, Exchange, Janet Duckworth, Gassaway, Doris Drake, Flatwoods; and one granddaughter, Kaylee Marie Goff, Gassaway.

Mrs. Singleton was a homemaker and a member of the Fairview United Methodist Church, Chapel Route, Gassaway.

Lennie E. Stout

SHINNSTON -- Lennie Elma Stout, 87, of Lumberport, died at 5:05 a.m. Monday, April 19, 1999, in Heartland of Clarksburg, following an extended illness. She was born March 2, 1912, in Doddridge County, a daughter of the late Jacob Raymond and Atha Glaspell Stout. Her husband, Nick Persha, preceded her in death on March 1, 1966.

Surviving are one half brother, William T. Stout, Hepzibah; one niece, Ethel Ayers, with whom she made her home in Lumberport; and several other nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by four brothers, 10 sisters and her lifelong friend, Enoch Noah Morris.
Ms. Stout was Pentecostal.

Friends may call at Dorsey Funeral Home, Shinnston after 2 p.m. today. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 1 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Robert Shingleton officiating. Interment will be in the Shinnston Masonic cemetery.

Scott D. Tacy

GRAFTON -- Scott David Tacy, 24, of Route 1, Independence, died Saturday, April 17, 1999, as a result of an automobile accident in Taylor County.

He was born April 16, 1975, in Fairmont, a son of Carl D. Tacy Jr., Independence, and Janice L. Morris Tacy White and husband, Mark, Clarksburg.

Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Bartsel (Angel Marie) Keener, Grafton, Erica D. Tacy and Bethany K. Tacy, both of Clarksburg; his maternal grandmother, Katherine Shingleton Morris, Grafton; paternal grandfather, Carl D. Tacy Sr., Weston; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Edwin L. Morris and his paternal grandmother, Betty Goodwin Tacy Boyce.

Mr. Tacy was the assistant manager and a personal trainer at The Workout Co., Bridgeport. He was also a representative of the American Communications Network. He was Christian.
