GRANTSVILLE -- Glenneth Belle Carpenter, 77, of Glenville, died Thursday, April 22, 1999, at Minnie Hamilton Health Care Center, Grantsville. She was born in Gilmer County, a daughter of the late Daniel Monroe and Effie Ann Danley Miller.
Her husband, Clarence Carpenter, survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Lorraine Moss, Salem, Ohio; one sister, Jerry Thompson, Glenville; 15 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by two sons, David Reaser and Nelson Gene Reaser.
Mrs. Carpenter was a former employee of the Thompson Dry Cleaning Co. of Glenville.
Leanna Mayle
PHILIPPI -- Leanna Mayle, 62, a resident of Baughman Towers, died at 11:55 p.m. Friday, April 23, 1999, in United Hospital Center, Clarksburg, following an extended illness. She was born July 6, 1936, in Philippi, a daughter of the late Isaac Sylvester and Lummy Mayle Mayle.
Surviving are three daughters, Connie Mayle and Karon Upton, both of Philippi, and Dessie Mayle, Spelter; one son, Aundre Lopez Mayle, Concord, Calif.; six brothers, Alston Mayle, Canton, Ohio, Harwood Mayle, Edmond Mayle, Mickey Mayle, Cecil Mayle and Terry Mayle, all of Philippi; two sisters, Alma Kennedy, Philippi, and Clementa Rose Croston, Canton; 11 grandchildren, K.J. Newman, Austin Upton, Johnna Upton, Whittney Upton, D'Vonna Mayle, Shoshana Wilkinson, Briana Wilkinson, Marina Wilkinson, Matthew Mayle, Jennifer Mayle and Samantha Mayle. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Isaac Junior Mayle.
Ms. Mayle was a homemaker and a member of the Olive Hill Wesleyan Methodist Church.
Virginia R. McDonald
SHINNSTON -- Virginia R. McDonald, 84, of Chillicothe, Ohio, and a former Piketon, Ohio, resident, died Friday, April 23, 1999, at Berger Hospital, Circleville, Ohio. She was born Aug. 30, 1914, in Hepzibah, a daughter of the late Harry B. and Cora Dell Smith McDonald.
Surviving are one sister, Muriel M. Rector, Chillicothe; one sister-in-law, Christine McDonald, Portsmouth, Ohio; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Roy H. and Harry Jackson McDonald, three sisters, Helen R. Cooley, Iva "Mickey¨ Atha and Pearl Lorene "Renie¨ Greenfeder and one niece, Donna Yinger Rapp.
Ms. McDonald retired in 1981 from Goodyear Atomic Corp. in Piketon with 28 years of service. She was a WAC veteran of World War II.
She was a member of Merritt Post No. 142, American Legion, Waverly, Ohio, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Piketon.
Friends may call at Botkin Funeral Home, Waverly, from 4-8 p.m. today and at Harmer Funeral Home, Shinnston, from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Harmer Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Shinnston Masonic cemetery, where military graveside rites will be held.
Martha L. Robinette
MANNINGTON -- Martha Lee Crim Robinette, 71, of Idamay, died Saturday, April 24, 1999, at her residence.
She was born March 8, 1928, in Worthington, a daughter of the late Harry and Alma Louise Minnear Crim.
Her husband, James H. Robinette, survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Brenda Cale and friend, Dempsey McHenry, Toledo, Ohio, and Valerie "Cookie¨ Cale, Idamay; two grandsons, Eric and wife, Rose Cale, Toledo, and Michael Cale and friend, Kim Biddle, both of Fairmont; one granddaughter, Amanda Cale, Idamay; one great-granddaughter, Jessica Cale; and one stepson, John Robinette.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Reed Crim and Thomas Blaine Crim.
Mrs. Robinette was a homemaker and Baptist. She enjoyed crocheting.
Leslie Shingleton
HURRICANE -- Leslie "Buddy¨ Shingleton, 75, of Hurricane, died Saturday, April 24, 1999, in Putnam General Hospital after a long illness.
Surviving are five sisters, Lucille Strother, St. Albans, Kathryn Chatham, Clarksburg, Virginia Moore, Ravenswood, Doris Boykin, Hurricane, and Sue Ann King, Boonsboro; two brothers, Wiley Shingleton and Joe Shingleton, both of Nitro.
Mr. Shingleton retired from the federal government. He was Baptist and a member of Nitro Moose No. 565. He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a 10-year resident of Hurricane.
Wilma L. Yeager
Wilma L. Yeager, 68, formerly of Clarksburg, died at 5 p.m. Saturday, April 24, 1999, in a local nursing home following an extended illness. She was born Sept. 2, 1930, in Clarksburg, a daughter of the late James and Sylvia Randolph Pyles.
Surviving are one son, Gary Yeager, Liberty Addition; two daughters, Cherie Leary, Plainsboro, N.J., and Deby Yambrick, Stealey; three grandchildren, Cory, Laholli and Lisa Yeager; three great-grandchildren, Shawn Bunnell, Billie Jo Bunnell and Noah Yeager; two brothers, Harry and Harvey Randolph, both of West Union; and one sister, Beverly Randolph, West Union.
She was also preceded in death by one brother, Larry Randolph.
Ms. Yeager was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses in Clarksburg. She was a retired nurse's aide at United Hospital Center and St. Mary's hospitals, with over 30 years of service.

Alfred J. Altieri
ELKINS -- Alfred Joseph "Nick¨ Altieri, 82, a resident of 112 Woodland Drive, and more recently a patient at the Elkins Regional Convalescent Center, died Sunday evening, April 25, 1999, at the center. He had been in declining health.
He was born April 30, 1916, in Coalton, a son of the late Antonio and Concetta Condella Altieri.
Surviving are one son, Ira Joseph "Joe¨ Altieri, Buckhannon; one brother, Patsy L. Altieri and one sister, Mary Altieri, both of Elkins. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Anthony "Tim,¨ Julius John and Stephen Altieri and two sisters, Joan Perry and Rose Wilmoth.
Mr. Altieri attended the Coalton Twelve-Year School. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II in the Philippines and the Pacific. He was an employee of the West Virginia Department of Highways, retiring in 1981.
Mr. Altieri was a member of the H.W. Daniel's Post No. 29, American Legion, where he had served as past commander, the Tygarts Valley Post No. 3647, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Saint Brendan Catholic Church.
Mary Ann Bennett
PENNSBORO -- Mary Ann Bennett, 52, of Pennsboro, died Sunday, April 25, 1999, at her residence. She was born Dec. 1, 1946, in Philippi, Barbour County, a daughter of the late Arthur B. and Mary Cook Crissman. Her husband, Gregory O. Bennett, survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Alexis Bennett and one sister, Sue White, both of Pennsboro; and one cousin, Jean Turner, Baltimore, Md. She was also preceded in death by an infant brother, John D. Crissman.
Mrs. Bennett was a teacher, having served in Wetzel, Wood and Ritchie counties. She was a graduate of Pennsboro High School with the class of 1964, Glenville State College with the class of 1968, and obtained her master's degree from West Virginia University.
She currently taught at Ritchie County Middle School, where she was the track coach and was volleyball coach at Ritchie County High School.
While at Glenville State College, Mrs. Bennett was a member of Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority and worked at Women's Hall.
She was a member of the West Virginia Education Association, the Trinity United Methodist Church and was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star of Pennsboro.
Randall L. Britton
ST. MARYS -- Randall L. Britton, 49, of St. Marys, died Sunday, April 25, 1999, in Camden Clark Memorial Hospital, Parkersburg. He was born Feb. 3, 1950, in Clarksburg, a son of Hester Cumberledge Britton, St. Marys, and the late George W. Britton Jr. His wife, Pam Cox Britton, survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Randee Angel Britton and one son, George Lee Britton, both at home; one brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Lynn Britton, St. Marys; one aunt, Linda Dotson, Ravenna, Ohio; several nieces and nephews, including Mikala Lynn Britton and a friend, Clayton McBrayer, both of St. Marys.
Mr. Britton graduated from St. Marys High School in 1968 and was a production superintendent for APCO Energy Inc., St. Marys.
Orpha G. Burnside
WESTON -- Orpha Grace Burnside, 88, of Route 1, Weston, Mare Run, died at 1:45 p.m. Sunday, April 25, 1999, in the Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital, Weston, following a brief illness.
She was born Dec. 25, 1910, in Lewis County, a daughter of the late William Samuel Freeman and Stella Simons Freeman.
Her husband, John Lee Burnside, whom she married May 19, 1928, preceded her in death on June 10, 1986.
Surviving are three sons, Wade Gene Burnside and John Kent Burnside, both of Route 1, Weston, and James L. Burnside, Route 1, Jane Lew; one daughter, Sue Robinson, Weston; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Earl and Carl Freeman and one sister, Hazel Currey.
Mrs. Burnside was a homemaker and Methodist.

Janet L. Gifford
Janet L. McIntyre Gifford, 64, of 103 2nd Avenue, Stonewood, died Monday, April 26, 1999, in United Hospital Center following a brief illness. She was born May 4, 1934, in Brownton, a daughter of the late Floyd Murphy and Clara Boggs Murphy. Her husband, Walter M. Gifford, survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Jeffrey L. (Barbara) Compton, Clarksburg, and Holly Bombardiere, Fairmont; two sons, Jim McIntyre, Wolf Summit, and Jerry McIntyre, Clarksburg; one stepson, Bruce A. Gifford, California; three stepdaughters, Patricia Tecash, Boardman, Ohio, Sharon R. Gifford, Jacksonville, Fla., and Terry Cargill, Akron, Ohio; one brother, Bob Murphy, Hubbard, Ohio; nine grandchildren and four stepgrandchildren. She was also preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.
Mrs. Gifford formerly attended the Barnes Memorial Baptist Church, North View. She was a homemaker.
Friends will be received at Davis-Weaver Funeral Home, 329 East Main St., from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Dr. Michael C. Hopkins presiding. Interment will be in the West Virginia National cemetery, Pruntytown.
