Roy L. Moran
GRAFTON -- Roy Lee Moran, 85, of Route 5, Country Club Road, Grafton, died at 11:24 a.m. Friday, July 9, 1999, in the Grafton City Hospital.
He was born July 31, 1913, in Junior, a son of the late Robert Lee and Della Maude Grimm Moran.
His wife, Helen Louise Ashby Moran, whom he married on Aug. 12, 1937, survives.
Also surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and James Manno, Grafton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Howard R. and Sue Moran, Ledyard, Conn., and Guy W. and Beverly Moran, Beiver, Miss.; 12 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by one son, Ronald C. Moran; two brothers, and two sisters.
Mr. Moran was the last surviving member of his family.
He was formerly employed with the Hazel Glass Co., Grafton, and the Knox Glass Co., Connecticut.
Mr. Moran was a lifetime member of the Grafton Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. No. 308.
He was Methodist.
A private graveside service will he held at the families convenience in the Woodsdale Memorial Park with the Rev. H. Edgar Suite officiating.
Emmett R. Murphy
PHILIPPI -- Emmett Ray Murphy, 73, of Route 1, Volga, died at 2:55 p.m. Friday, July 9, 1999, in the St. Joseph's Hospital Emergency Room, Buckhannon.
He was born Aug. 6, 1925, in Randolph County, a son of the late Robert and Beulah Salibury Murphy.
His wife, the former Clara Maxine Bennett, preceded him in death.
Surviving are two daughters, Carolyn Rounds, Missouri, and Ronnetta Murphy, Volga; three sons, Harold Murphy, Duane Murphy, and Robin Murphy, all of Buckhannon; three sisters, Pauline Henry, Volga, Nina Peters, Flint, and Alice Hart, Pennsylvania; three brothers, John Murphy and Pat Murphy, and James "Jim" Murphy, all of Philippi; and eight grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by one brother, Perry Murphy; and one grandchild.
Mr. Murphy was a retired coal miner.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete.
Wright Funeral Home, 216 N. Walnut St., Philippi, are in charge of the arrangements.
Charles R. Shearer
ORANGE CITY, FLA. --Charles Robert "Bob" Shearer, 71, of Deltona, Fla., formerly of Ashland, Ky., and Mt. Clare, died Tuesday, July 6, 1999, in a Deltona hospital.
He was born Jan. 20, 1928, in Clarksburg, a son of the late Charles and Emma Campbell Shearer.
His wife, Jean Shearer, survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Nancy, Deltona; one granddaughter, Ashley, Deltona; one sister, Velma Larry, Mt. Clare; and three brothers, Frank Shearer, Clarksburg, Paul Shearer, Bridgeport, and Edward Shearer, Ashland.
Mr. Shearer was a graduate of the Lost Creek High School Class of 1946.
He was retired from Ashland Oil Refinery in Ashland.
Mr. Shearer was a U.S. Army veteran.
Allen-Summerhill Funeral Home, Orange City, was in charge of the arrangements.
Howard W. Walker
JANE LEW -- Howard Wilbert Walker, 78, of 27 Hawkins Dr., Buckhannon, died Friday, July 9, 1999, at his residence.
He was born Aug. 21, 1920, in Jeanette, Pa., a son of the late Alonzo T. and Tressie Jane Shaffer Walker.
His wife, the former Dessie R. Knisell, whom he married on Jan. 24, 1942, in Mt. Lake Park, Md., survives.
Also surviving are one son, Howard W. Walker Jr., Alabama; four daughters, Luella Sinclair and Patricia Brown, both of Buckhannon, Barbara Messenger, Nutter Fort, and Yvonne Dadich, Morgantown; two sisters, Lucille Schmidt, Jeanette, and Viola Kelley, Morgantown; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers.
Mr. Walker was a self employed auto electrician.
He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army.
Mr. Walker attended the Buckhannon Pentecostal Church.
He was president of the Mountain State CB Club. His handle was "Alternator".
Friends will be received at the Morris Funeral Home, Jane Lew, from 6-8 Monday. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Lester Boylan officiating. Interment will follow in the Brick Church cemetery in Lost Creek. Jane Lew Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 5131 and the American Legion Post No. 166 of Jane Lew will hold full military grave site memorial services.
Frank E. Cavallo
Frank E. Cavallo, 64, of Clarksburg, died Monday, June 28, 1999, at his residence following an extended illness.
He was born Feb. 16, 1935, in Clarksburg, a twin son of the late Ilario "Larry" and Catherine Lucane Cavallo.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Larry A. (Loria) Reid and Mrs. Doug (Kim) Dodd; two sons, Larry J. Cavallo and Frank E. Cavallo II; their mother, Devanna Dobbins Cavallo; two sisters, Mrs. Joseph A. (Francis) Tiano and Mrs. Mike J. (Tootsie) Amodia; one brother, Joseph F. Cavallo; eight grandchildren, Anna Lee Corsini, Katherine Mary Reid, Ralph Dennis Dodd, Joshus Frank Dodd, Emily Rene Dodd, Carrie Ann Cavallo, Franklin Woodrow Cavallo and Frank Edward III, all of Clarksburg; several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Patricia Jo and one grandson, Lee Edward Corsini.
Mr. Cavallo graduated from Washington Irving High School in 1953 and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
He was the longest serving employee at the Louis A. Johnson Veterans Administration Medical Center, having been a certified dental technician there for 39 years. Prior to that, he was a dental technician at Standard Dental Lab for 13 years. He was also employed at Jack's Friendly Inc.
Mr. Cavallo was a third degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Clarksburg Council No. 872 and attended the Immaculate Conception Church of Clarksburg. He was Catholic.
Friends will be received at Bartolo Funeral Home, 515 W. Pike St., from 1-9 p.m. today. A Biblical prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with the Rev. Father Cesidio J. Federico as celebrant. Interment will follow in Holy Cross cemetery.
Mamie K. Conrad
FLATWOODS -- Mamie Katherin Conrad, 89, of Napier, died Tuesday, June 29, 1999, in Braxton County Memorial Hospital following a short illness.
She was born May 15, 1910, in Webster County, a daughter of the late Norm and Mary Williams.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jennings Bryan Conrad.
Surviving are one daughter, Olie E. Lloyd, Nettie; four sons, Bobby Conrad, Burnsville, Earl Conrad, Craigsville, Roy Gene Conrad, Cowen, and Harley Lee Conrad, Napier; one sister, Bell Baughman, Nettie; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Retha Mae Conrad, four brothers and two sisters.
Mrs. Conrad was a homemaker and Baptist. She lived at her current residence since 1927.
Frank D. Hall
Frank D. Hall, 63, of Route 3, Clarksburg, Edgewood Addition, died Tuesday, June 29, 1999, in United Hospital Center, Clarksburg, following an extended illness.
He was born May 2, 1936, in Bridgeport, a son of the late William A. and Opal Hall Hall.
His wife, Fay C. Phillips Hall, whom he married July 6, 1963, survives.
Also surviving are one son, Frank D. Hall and wife, Missy, Jane Lew; two daughters, Mrs. Jerry (Tara) Johnson, Stonewood, and Mrs. Monica Pumphrey, Gypsy; seven grandchildren, Michelle, Jessica and Jeremy Pumphrey, Tiffany and Levi Johnson and Shelby and Jordan Hall; two brothers, William Lee Hall, Shinnston, and Robert Dale Hall, Zanesville, Ohio; one sister, Betty Rose Lyons, Clarksburg; several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by one brother, Richard Hall.
Mr. Hall was an employee of the Harrison County Board of Education. He was Protestant.
Friends may call at Davis Funeral Home, 443 W. Pike Street, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. James Robert Nuzum officiating. Entombment will be in the Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
Willard D. Phillips
ELKINS -- Willard Daiton Phillips, 82, of Lavalette Avenue, died Sunday, June 27, 1999, in Elkins Regional Convalescent Center.
He was born Dec. 23, 1916, in Montrose, a son of the late Daniel C. and Zulah Kittle Phillips.
On June 23, 1951, he married the former Stella Mae Herron, who preceded him in death on Feb. 3, 1999.
Also surviving are one son, Raymond Canfield, Elkins; one daughter, Ruth Clemente, Niles, Ohio; one sister, Bonnie Dodge, Tennessee; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by five brothers, Wilber, Elmer, Russell, Gorman and Herman Phillips and one sister, Ruth Digman.
Mr. Phillips attended the schools of Randolph County. He had worked for many years for the Wallace Bakery and retired from the Appalachian Mental Health as a maintenance man. He was affiliated with the Elkins Church of God.
He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the Army Air Force as an airplane crew chief and a technical sergeant. He served with the 387th Bombardment Group that participated in the Air Offensive in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Arnennes and Central Europe.
He was the recipient of the Bronze Star, the American Defense Service Medal, the European, African, Middle Eastern Service Ribbon and the Distinguished Unit Badge.
Michael E. Searfass
NORTH CATASAUQUA, Pa. -- Michael E. Searfass, 41, of Bethlehem, Pa., died Monday, June 28, 1999, in Muhlenberg Hospital Center.
He was born in Lima, Ohio, the son of Edward C. and Janet Thomas Searfass, Schoenersville, Pa.
Surviving is his wife of 21 years, the former Michelle R. Rollins.
Also surviving are two sons, Joshua M. and Matthew F., both at home; one sister, Lynn Romig, Allentown, Pa.; one granddaughter.
Mr. Searfass was a parts manager for Continental Express Airline, Newark, N.J. He was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Catasauqua.
Francis Williams
SALEM -- Francis Williams, 81, of Route 1, Patterson Road, died at 5:30 p.m. Monday, June 28, 1999, at his home following an extended illness.
He was born April 30, 1918, in Eldorado, Kan., a son of the late L. Tillman and Winnie B. Coffendafer Williams.
His wife, Luetta Underwood Williams, preceded him in death on July 11, 1995.
Surviving are two sons, Lee Williams, Bristol, and Mark Williams, Liberty Street, Industrial; two daughters, A. Marie Davis, Aliquippa, Pa., and Rita J. Davis, Broken Arrow, Okla.; one sister, Alberta R. Williams, Bristol; seven grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Mr. Williams was a member of the Salem Baptist Church and was a deacon of the church for many years. For 39 years, he was a secondary school teacher, most of that time being spent in Harrison County.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in Europe and Africa. Since his retirement, he has been an active farmer and avid gardner.
Friends may call at Greathouse Funeral Home, Salem Chapel, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Ray French conducting the service. Interment will be in the K. of P. Memorial Park.
