Robert F. Brinkley
LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- Robert F. Brinkley, 82, died of lung cancer on Saturday, Oct. 16, 1999, in Atlanta, Ga.
He was born in Clarksburg, a son of Allman Brinkley and Katherine Mullooly.
His wife, Wilda Jane Brinkley, preceded him in death.
Surviving are two sisters, Mary Margaret Sloan, Jane Lew, and Martha Burkhammer, Zionsville, Ind.; three children, Judy Houchins, Atlanta, John Brinkley, Chattanooga, Tenn., and Roberta Winick, Beverly Hills, Calif.; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Mr. Brinkley lived most of his life in Lewis and Harrison counties. He owned B&B Market in Lumberport and was a purchasing agent for Clinchfield Coal Co., from which he retired 20 years ago.
He was an active member of Lumberport United Methodist Church, Lumberport Lions Club and the Shinnston Masonic Lodge.
In 1984, he moved to Atlanta to be near his children and grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held in Kingswood United Methodist Church, Dunwoody, Ga., on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation at 1841 Clifton Road, NE, Atlanta, Ga., 30329.

Texie V. Cunningham
Texie V. Cunningham, 76, of Route 1, Wallace, died Monday, Oct. 18, 1999, at United Hospital Center, following an extended illness.
She was born May 29, 1923, in Ritchie County, a daughter of the late Edwin Elijah Coleman Clevenger and Esta Anne McDonald Clevenger.
Her husband, Kenneth Cunningham, preceded her in death in 1990.
Surviving are one daughter, Glenda Findley, Little Rock Camp; four grandchildren, Terry Cunningham, Jason Cunningham, Brian Findley and Christina Findley; one daughter-in-law, Linda Shorter, Fairmont; one sister, Freda Hardbarger, Bridgeport; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by one son, Raymond Cunningham, two brothers, Vernard and Paul Clevenger and three sisters, Opal Powers, Golden Hardbarger and Beulah Stutler.
Mrs. Cunningham was a member of the Little Rock Camp Baptist Church.
Friends may call at the Davis Funeral Home, 443 W. Pike St., from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Interment will follow in the Lumberport Lions Club cemetery.

Charles W. Freeman Jr.
BRIDGEPORT -- Charles W. Freeman Jr., 77, of S. 22nd St., Clarksburg, died Tuesday, Oct. 19, 1999, at United Hospital Center.
He was born July 10, 1922, in Rocky Fork, Gilmer County, a son of the late Charles W. Freeman Sr. and Maude Mick Freeman.
His wife, Mary Jo Snodgrass Freeman, whom he married April 26, 1947, survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Charles W. (Linda) Freeman III, Elkins, and Jeff L. (Marla) Freeman, Morgantown; four grandchildren, Chad W. and Alexis Nicole Freeman and Jeremy and Adam Freeman; one sister, Mary Davis, Clarksburg; one nephew, Howard Gaines, Clarksburg; one niece, Mary Lee Kelley, Parkersburg; and several great-nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by one brother, James Madison Freeman.
Mr. Freeman was a retired operating engineer at local 132 for 38 years. He worked for Clyde Shrum Construction and Mark's Construction at Union Carbide Corporation.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 155, Nemesis Temple Shrine, Queen Esther Chapter 11, Central West Virginia Shrine, the United Methodist Men's Group and the Calvary United Methodist Church.
Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home from noon-8 p.m. today, where the funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, with the Rev. Olen Robertson, presiding. Entombment will be in the Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.

Eva R. Hoffman
BUCKHANNON --ÝEva Ruth Hoffman, 77, of 106 E. Green St., died at 8:58 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, 1999, at Holbrook Nursing Home.
She was born Sept. 24, 1922, in Ellamore, a daughter of the late Gilbert Gay Booth and Tursie Fletcher Booth.
Her husband, Waugh H. Hoffman, whom she married June 3, 1947, survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Karen Hoffman Hull, Buckhannon; two brothers, Marvin L. Booth, West Hamlin, and Ovid "Dick" Booth, Niles, Ohio.
She was also preceded in death one brother, Velmar G. "Ben" Booth and one sister, Carol Jean McCauley.
Mrs. Hoffman was a material cutter for Daltons Inc. She was a member of the Gertrude Chapel United Methodist Church.

Harry Marks
PHILIPPI -- Harry Marks, 80, of Brushy Fork community, Route 1, Bridgeport, died at 4:50 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, 1999, at his residence following an extended illness.
He was born May 4, 1919, in Mt. Clare, a son of the late Nelson and Mamie Board Marks.
His wife, the former Anna Marie Edwards, whom he married on March 3, 1946, preceded him in death on Aug. 6, 1997.
Surviving are five sons, Lloyd Fay Marks, Galloway, Harry Delmas Marks, Bridgeport, Rickie Allen Marks, Wallace, Clyde William Marks, at home, and Timothy Paul Marks, Buckhannon; four daughters, Anna Lyvone Cunningham, with whom he made his home, Judy Paulette Miller, Dola, Mary Frances Flowers, Philippi, and Carolyn Louise Jones, Bridgeport; one sister, Vivian "Judy" Russell, Clarksburg; 21 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by one son, Roy Lee Marks; one daughter, Patty June Marks; three sisters, Helen Reed, Lillian Griffith and Ruby McGee; and three brothers, Ed Marks, Roy Marks and Oscar Marks.
Mr. Marks was a retired coal miner and truck driver. He was a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Army.
He was a member of the Gospel Barn and a former member of the Holy Trinity Chapel where he served as a Sunday school teacher.
He was an avid fisherman and loved to play the guitar.
Friends will be received at the Stemple & Forman Funeral Home, Philippi, from 9 a.m.-noon today. His body will then be taken to the Gospel Barn, Stonecoal Road, where friends may call from 1-2 p.m. today. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today at the church with the Rev. Patty Post, the Rev. Jim Davis and the Rev. George Jenkins officiating. Interment will follow in the Crislip cemetery, Peppertown.

Ruby J. Pumphrey
Ruby J. Grimes Pumphrey, 74, of Route 3, Clarksburg, died Monday, Oct. 18, 1999, in Fairmont General Hospital, following an extended illness.
She was born Dec. 24, 1924, in Mt. Clare, a daughter of the late Urihezkiah and Onda Mae Jeffries Grimes.
Her husband, James C. Pumphrey, whom she married on Dec. 5, 1942, preceded her in death in April of 1986.
Surviving are five sons, James C. Pumphrey Jr., Alabama, Charles E. Pumphrey, Enterprise, Larry A. Pumphrey, Shinnston, Peter L. Pumphrey, Bridgeport, and Paul A. Pumphrey, Owens; six daughters, Beulah Jean Matheney, Clarksburg, Eulah Mae Thomas, Enterprise, Bonnie Irene Quinn, Gypsy, Dora A. Yeager, Lumberport, Juanita L. Pumphrey, Fairmont, and Mary K. Owens, Shinnston; 38 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Hazel Sprouse, Normantown, Madeline Pritt, Bridgeport, Barbara Marks, Moundsville, and Elise Alltop, Cox's Mills; five brothers, Roy Paul Grimes, Cox's Mills, Floyd Grimes, Ohio, Russell Grimes, Wolf Summit, Clark Grimes, Ohio, and Urihezkiah Grimes Jr., Bridgeport.
She was also preceded in death by one brother, Albert V. Grimes.
Mrs. Pumphrey was a member of the United Brethren Church.
Friends may call at Davis Funeral Home, 443 W. Pike St., from 7-9 p.m. today and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday, where the funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday. Interment will be in the Pumphrey cemetery in Orlando.

Veronica Rosen
Veronica Stalensky Rosen, 55, died from ovarian cancer on Wednesday, Sept. 29, 1999, in Hollywood, Fla.
She was born and raised in Clarksburg, a daughter of the late Stanley and Theresa Abruzzino Stalensky.
Surviving are her husband and two grown children in Florida; one sister, Patricia, Hollywood; two brothers, Don, St. Petersburg, Fla., and Stanley, Clarksburg; two uncles, Jim Abruzzino, Beaver Falls, Pa., and John Stalensky, Clarksburg; and two aunts, Mary Rebrook and Mildred Stalenski, both of Clarksburg.
Mrs. Rosen graduated from Victory High School in 1961.
There will be a memorial mass at Our Lady of Perpetual help in Stonewood at 10 a.m. on Oct. 30.

Cora A. Skidmore
Mrs. Cora Ann Skidmore, 85, of 200 Buckhannon Ave., Clarksburg, died at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, 1999, at United Hospital Center, Clarksburg.
She was born Aug. 29, 1914, in Upshur County, a daughter of the late William Pierce Shipman and Emma Gibson Shipman.
Her husband, Allan K. Skidmore, whom she married Jan. 9, 1943, preceded her in death on Jan. 10, 1973.
Surviving are two sons and one daughter-in-law, Gary and Linda Skidmore, Bridgeport, and Robert Skidmore, Clarksburg; several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, having also been preceded in death by seven brothers, Robert, Paul, Harley, Samuel, Harold, Arthur and Blake Shipman and three sisters, Beulah Boserman, Prudence Scott and Idell Shipman.
Mrs. Skidmore was a homemaker.
Friends will be received at Davis-Weaver Funeral Home, 329 East Main St., from 2-9 p.m. today, where the funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday. The Rev. Dr. Thomas Jackson will conduct the service. Interment will be in Elkins Memorial Gardens, (formerly Elkins IOOF cemetery). Davis-Weaver service.

Benjamin W. Vance
PARSONS -- Benjamin Wayne Vance, 24, a resident of Hambleton, died at 11:40 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 17, 1999, at his residence following a brief illness.
He was born March 23, 1975, in Elkins, a son of Terry Wayne Vance, Harman, and Sherry Diana Watts Vance, Davis.
Also surviving are one daughter, Summer Dawn Vance, Hambleton; his fiance, Melissa Watson, Hambleton; one sister, Brandy Lee Vance Crawford and friend, Tobie, Davis; his maternal grandparents, Roy and Geraldine Watts, Dry Fork; his paternal grandmother, Violet Vance, Parsons; his maternal great-grandparents, Howard and Effie Arbogast, Dry Fork; one niece, several aunts, uncles and cousins; and a special friend, Joey Jones, Parsons.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Kemp Vance.
Mr. Vance was a graduate of Harman High School with the class of 1993, was a member of the Future Farmers of America, the Junior High School basketball team and the Jones Rental Softball Team.
At the time of his death, Mr. Vance was a carpenter for the Wamsley Construction Co. of Hendricks. He was an avid outdoorsman.

Delbert Arbogast

ELKINS -- Delbert Arbogast, 82, a resident of Route 1, 4-H Camp Road, Beverly, died at 6:44 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 14, 1999, at his home. He had been in declining health for the past six months.

He was born April 30, 1916, in Cherry Grove, the eldest son of the late Don and Icie Teter Arbogast.
On Oct. 8, 1942, at Sully, Md., he married the former Pearl George, who preceded him in death on July 31, 1986.

Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Donald (Sharon) Martin, Beverly; five brothers, Guy Arbogast, Elkins, Coy Arbogast, Wooster, Ohio, Carl Arbogast, Alliance, Ohio, and Earl Arbogast and Dremis Arbogast, both of Cherry Grove; three sisters, Betty Jean Pennington and Rosa Lee Campbell, both of Elkins, and Cynthia Hackett, Hagerstown, Md.; three grandchildren, Richard Simmons, Mill Creek, Renea McDaniel, Beverly, and Shelly Hall, Belington; five great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by one son, Ronald "Butch¨ Arbogast; one brother, Hoy Arbogast; and two sisters, Elva Wamsley and Bonnie Smith.

Mr. Arbogast was a graduate of Circleville High School and Shepherd College. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and had worked as an electrician for the Western Maryland Railroad for several years, retiring in 1984.

He was the treasurer/manager of the Western Maryland Credit Union for 37 years and was a farmer at Beverly for 53 years. He was a member of the Randolph County Recreation Board and was instrumental in making many improvements at Camp Pioneer 4-H Camp. He was Methodist.

Ora E. Armstrong

BUCKHANNON -- Ora Elizabeth "Betty¨ Armstrong, 84, of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, died Friday, Feb. 12, 1999, at Wesley Ridge Residential Care Facility. She was born March 27, 1914, in Mason County, a daughter of the late Joseph Kimberling and Emma Kimberling. Her husband of 62 years, William Robert Armstrong, preceded her in death on Jan. 22, 1999.
Surviving are two daughters, Peggy Armstrong, Hawaii, and Jo Ann Cole, Pickerington, Ohio; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Armstrong was a member of the Lake County Retired Teacher's Association and the Music and Drama Club. She graduated from Bowling Green Business University (now part of Western Kentucky University) in 1934.
She was a member of the Painesville United Methodist Church and was a retired business education teacher serving 30 years.
