ALMA -- Michael W. George, 60, of Shirley, died Friday, Feb. 5, 1999, in Johns Hopkins University Hospital, Baltimore, Md.
He was born Oct. 6, 1938, in Parkersburg, a son of Vera George, with whom he resided, and the late Raymond J. George.
Also surviving are one sister, Jacqueline Wichman, and one nephew, Noah Wichman, both of Ithaca, N.Y.; one niece, Robin Wichman, Williamstown, Mass.; and one aunt, Annabelle Wolfe, Sarasota, Fla.
Mr. George was Protestant and publisher of the Shirley United Methodist Church newsletter.
Virgil H. Hamilton Sr.
GRAFTON -- Virgil H. Hamilton Sr., 96, of Route 1, Brownlow Park community, died Saturday, Feb. 6, 1999, at Grafton City Hospital.
He was born March 16, 1902, in Barbour County, a son of the late Wade H. and Rachel Ridgeway Hamilton.
His wife, Lucille Wittman Hamilton, preceded him in death.
Surviving are five children, Virgil H. Hamilton Jr. and wife, June, Bridgeport, Kathryn Lambert and husband, Willie, Valley Falls, Grafton, Pauline Hamilton, at home, Barbara "Bobbie Lou" Davis and husband, Jim, Brownlow Park, Grafton, and Wesley Hamilton and wife, Carolyn, White Day Road, Grafton; nine grandchildren, Ralph Hamilton, Walter Hamilton, Mary Frederick, Joedy Lambert, Jerry Lambert, Tammy Henderson, Dee Dee Felton, Jamie Waters and Jay Davis; 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter; several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Virgie Miller and Lizzie Hamilton.
Mr. Hamilton was a retired machinist with the B&O Railroad with over 40 years of service. He was a member of the Railroad Machinist Union and was Protestant.
Lennie M. Smith
SALEM -- Lennie M. Smith, 83, of Wilsonburg, formerly of Route 23, died at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, 1999, at the home of a grandson, Gary Smith, Long Run, following a brief illness.
She was born March 11, 1915, in Doddridge County, a daughter of the late Filmore and Hattie Smith Hutson.
Her husband, Armour "Pete" Smith, preceded her in death on April 8, 1998.
Surviving are one son, Donald L. Smith, Route 2; one daughter, Mrs. Sam (Betty) Oliverio, Wilsonburg, with whom she made her home since June of 1998; one brother, Ellas Hutson, Sedalia; 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by one son, James Edison Smith; one infant granddaughter; two brothers, Dean Hutson and Lee Hutson; and two sisters, Bretta Hutson and Calina Hutson.
Mrs. Smith was a member of the Salem Church of God and was a homemaker.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. today at Greathouse Funeral Home, Salem Chapel. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Mildred Bleyer conducting the service. Interment will be in the Center Point Christian cemetery.
Emma K. Sommerville
WESTON -- Emma Kathryn Sommerville, 81, of 124 First St., died at 2:15 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, 1999, in United Hospital Center, Clarksburg, following an extended illness.
She was born Jan. 29, 1918, in Clarksburg, a daughter of the late Carl F. Westfall and Mary Norman Westfall.
Her first husband, Claude Jamison and her second husband, Tracy Sommerville, both preceded her in death.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Gary (Deloris) Garton, Jane Lew; one stepson, H.C. Sommerville, Richmond, Va.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Sommerville was retired from the Weston City Hospital. She was a member of the Miles Chapel United Methodist Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary.
Friends may call at the Boyle Funeral Home, 322 Main Ave., Weston, from 6-8 p.m. today. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Martin Wine officiating. Interment will follow in the Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Mary L. Squeo
Mary L. Squeo, 82, of 524 Ohio Ave., Clarksburg, died unexpectedly Friday, Feb. 5, 1999, at her residence.
She was born Dec. 25, 1916, in Clarksburg, a daughter of the late Lorenzo Squeo and Josephine Agriesti Squeo.
Surviving are three cousins, John Post, Lucy Lanum and Edith Cooper, all of Clarksburg; one niece, Barbara S. Ray, Goshen, Ind.; and one grandniece, Dannette Ray, Ft. Wayne, Ind.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Leonard Squeo and Fred Squeo; and one sister, Rose Smoots, Elkhart, Ind.
Mrs. Squeo was a member of the Harrison County Senior Citizens and the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Clarksburg. She was a homemaker.
Catholic graveside rites will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Cross cemetery, Clarksburg, with Father Cesidio J. Federico as the celebrant. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Bartolo Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Madelyn V. Queen
BRIDGEPORT -- Madelyn Valeria Queen, 87, of 317 Monticello Ave., Clarksburg, died Sunday, Feb. 7, 1999, following a brief illness.
She was born Dec. 31, 1911, in Frenchton, a daughter of the late Alva and Nevada Snyder Smith.
Her husband, Ernest Kenneth Queen, with whom she celebrated her 65th wedding anniversary on Feb. 3, survives.
Also surviving are two sons, James Lee and wife, Gale Queen, Bossier City, La., and Randy E. and wife, Karole Queen, Morgantown; one daughter and her husband, Mrs. James M. (Karen Sue) Carvelli, Stonewood; one nephew whom she raised, David C. Powers; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, having also been preceded in death by three brothers, Wilson Burton Smith, Arley Emerson Smith and William Hartzel Smith; and five sisters, Retta Vance, Osa Tinney, Opal Smith, Nell Greathouse and Edna Mearns.
Mrs. Queen was a member of the St. Marks Lutheran Church.
Friends will be received at the Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Ave., Bridgeport, from noon-9 p.m. Tuesday. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. James Caton officiating. Interment will follow in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
The Rev. William G. Bissett
The Rev. William G. Bissett, 84, formerly of Point Street, Clarksburg, died Friday, July 2, 1999, in a local nursing home following an extended illness.
He was born Feb. 27, 1915, in Sardis, a son of the late William Maxwell and Delva Allen Bissett.
Thrice married, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Willa Lee Snyder Bissett on Feb. 27, 1963, and his second wife, Lucille Cox Bissett in 1971. He is survived by his third wife, Ida Mae Carpenter Bissett.
Also surviving are three sons, Harley Wayne Bissett, Stanford, Conn., William Grant Bissett, Jr., Williamsport, Md., and Kenneth Edward Bissett, Robinsville, N.J.; two stepdaughters, Priscilla S. Leuliette, Quiet Dell, and Alberta Lee Migota, Leetsdale, Pa.; two grandchildren, Steven and Allison Bissett; one stepgranddaughter, Alisa O'Neal; and one stepgrandson, Bruce Allen Migota.
He was also preceded in death by one son, Roger Lee Bissett; three brothers, Harvey, Ressie Lawrence and James Bissett; and one sister, Nora Virginia Henderson.
Rev. Bissett was a retired shipping clerk from Union Carbide Corporation with over 34 years of service. He was ordained as a Baptist minister in 1955.
He was a member of Clarksburg Lodge No. 52, Loyal Order of the Moose, and was a member of the Clarksburg Lions Club.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at the Davis Funeral Home, 443 W. Pike St. in Clarksburg. The funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. O.D. Harman officiating. Interment will be in the Bridgeport cemetery.
Harold C. Gregoire
ELKINS -- Harold Carter "Bud" Gregoire, 81, a resident of Apple Creek Estates, died unexpectedly Wednesday, June 30, 1999, at his home.
He was born Jan. 17, 1918, in Clarksburg, a son of the late George and Lillus Sullivan Gregoire.
He married the former Mildred P. Gardner, who survives in Elkins.
Also surviving are one son, Wayne Gregoire and wife, Sheila, Elkins; two granddaughters, Carrie Driscoll, Clemson, S.C., and Heidi Gregoire, Fairmont; two great-grandsons; a niece, Joy Stalnaker, Weston; a nephew, Jene Gregoire, Coalport, Pa.
He was also preceded in death by one brother, Resta Gregoire.
Mr. Gregoire was a resident of Clarksburg until moving to Elkins in 1977. He was a graduate of Victory High School in Clarksburg and worked at Adamston Flat Glass in Clarksburg for many years. He was also employed by the West Virginia Department of Natural Resources in Charleston and was owner of Gregoire Coals prior to his retirement.
He was a member of B.P.O.E. Lodge 1135 of Elkins and the First United Methodist Church of Elkins.
Mildred L. Bebout
Mrs. Mildred Louise Anderson Bebout, 89, of Bridgeport, formerly of Koupal Towers, Clarksburg, died Friday, July 2, 1999, in the Meadowview Manor Health Care Center following an extended illness.
She was born at Kingwood, Jan. 24, 1910, a daughter of the late Augustus and Agnus Miller Heiman.
Twice married, she was preceded in death by her first husband, W. Dick Anderson, and her second husband, Harry Bebout.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Evelyn Anderson, Bridgeport, and Dick and Barbara Anderson, Clarksburg; one half brother, two half sisters, and six grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.
Mrs. Bebout was Catholic. She was a pastry chef for several years in Pennsylvania and had worked at several ladies retail stores.
Friends will be received from 7-9 p.m. Monday at Davis-Weaver Funeral Home, 329 East Main St., Clarksburg. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Bridgeport cemetery with Pastor James L. Caton II presiding.
