Evelyn P. Calhoun
WEST UNION - Evelyn P. Gain Calhoun, 73, of Route 1, Greenwood, died at
2:46 p.m. Friday, July 2, 1999, in United Hospital Center, Clarksburg,
following a sudden illness.
She was born on Oct. 15, 1925, at Arnold's Creek, Doddridge County, a
daughter of the late James F. "Claud" and Bertha Gaines Gain.
She was married three times, first to Charles W. Trader, Clarksburg; second
to Arlo M. Furner, who preceded her in death on Dec. 9, 1985; and third to
William "Bill" Calhoun, whom she married April 18, 1993 in Greenwood.
Also surviving are two stepdaughters, Cheryl Pullen, Fairfax, Va., and
Barbara Lloyd, Morgantown; one foster son, Larry Robin Trader, Wellsburg;
one stepson, Roger Calhoun, Scott Depot; a brother, Louis E. Gain,
Littleton, Colo.; one foster sister, Ora Lee Deem, Morgantown; two
stepgrandsons, Jonathan Pullen, Fairfax, and Timothy Calhoun, Martinsville,
Ind.; two stepgranddaughters, Jennifer Pullen, Fairfax, and Amy Calhoun,
Scott Depot; and one foster granddaughter, Jennifer Trader, Steubenville,
Ohio.
She was also preceded in death by one infant son and one brother, Andy Gain.
Mrs. Calhoun was a 1943 graduate of Doddridge County High School. She had
attended Salem College and was a graduate from Clarksburg School of
Practical Nursing. She had formerly been employed by the Baltimore & Ohio
Railroad, PPG Industries and more recently by the United Hospital Center,
Clarksburg.
She was a member of the Salem Garden Club, the Salem-Teikyo University
Auxiliary, a life member of the Doddridge County Historical Society, the
International Willow Collectors Association and was an active member of the
Enon Baptist Church, Bristol.
Friends will be received from noon-9 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. Tuesday
until time of service at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Spurgeon Funeral Home, West
Union. The funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the
funeral home with the Rev. Gene Burnside officiating. Burial will follow in
the Gain-Fleming cemetery, Arnold's Creek.

Charles B. Davis
SALEM - Charles B. "Charlie" Davis, 80, of Salem, died at 7:35 p.m. Friday,
July 2, 1999, in the Sunrise Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Salem,
following an extended illness.
He was born July 2, 1919, at Melitus, a son of the late Claude S. and
Bertie Nicholson Davis.
Surviving are one sister, Claudine Davis Naylor, Warren, Ohio; and several
nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Glenn and Lewis E. Davis; four
sisters, Roxie Freeman, Local Lambiotte, Tina Scott and Norma Greynolds.
Mr. Davis had retired in the early 1980s with over 25 years of service with
the Western Union Telegraph Co. of New Jersey as a lineman.
He was a member of the Salem Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of the
Mt. Olive Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran and an avid hunter.
Friends will be received from 6-8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. Monday until
time of the service at 10 a.m. Monday at Harbert Funeral Home, Salem. The
funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with the
Rev. Lillian Simmons officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Olive
Baptist Church cemetery.

Marjorie G. Leachman
Mrs. Marjorie G. Leachman, 76, of Faris Avenue, Bridgeport, formerly of
South Fifth Street, Clarksburg, died Friday, July 2, 1999, at her home
following an extended illness.
She was born on Jan. 16, 1923, in Clarksburg, a daughter of the late McDuff
and Elizabeth Rogers Baker.
On Nov. 7, 1945, she married Burton B. Leachman, who survives.
Also surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Kurtis B. and Vicki
Leachman, Parkersburg; one daughter and son-in-law, Christine Leachman-Yee
and Leland Yee, Lake Forest, Ill.; one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Haught, West
River, Md.; one granddaughter, Mrs. Judah (Rachel) Hyde, Parkersburg; one
great-grandson, Jack Hyde, Parkersburg; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by one sister, Esther Baker Smith and one
brother, Clifford Baker.
Mrs. Leachman was a vestry member at Christ Episcopal Church/St. Barnabas
Chapel and was a homemaker.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Barnabas Chapel,
Bridgeport with the Rev. Scott T. Holcombe conducting the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Christ Episcopal
Church, P.O. Box 1492, Clarksburg, WV 26302 or Peoples Hospice, P.O. Box
1680, Clarksburg, WV 26302.

Gloria J. Moore
PHILIPPI - Gloria Jean Moore, 55, of Conway, S.C., formerly of Philippi,
died Friday morning, July 2, 1999, at Conway Hospital following a brief
illness.
She was born April 15, 1944, at Junior, a daughter of the late Elza and
Ellis Corley Moore.
Surviving are five daughters, Brigetta McVicker, Myrtle Beach, S.C.,
Carmella Duffy, Clarksburg, Crystal Marsh, Houston, Texas, Julie Haller,
Moatsville, and Jeanie Bailey, with whom she made her home; one son, Waylon
Cleavenger, Fayetteville, Ga.; two sisters, Irene Wolfe, Buckhannon, and
Glenna Taylor, Philippi; and 12 grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by one sister, Betty Trader and two
brothers, Frederick Junior Moore and Ralph Lee Moore.
Ms. Moore was a homemaker and was Baptist.
Friends will be received at the Stemple & Forman Funeral Home in Philippi
from 3-9 p.m. today and 9-10 a.m. Monday. The funeral service will be
conducted from the funeral home chapel at 10 a.m. Monday with the Rev. Jim
Tallman officiating. Interment will follow in the Knights of Pythias
Mountain View cemetery at Junior.

Mildred I. Powell
Mildred Irene Powell, 73, of Clarksburg Continuous Care Center, died at
12:30 p.m. Friday, July 2, 1999, at United Hospital Center, Clarksburg.
She was born in Washington, Pa., July 3, 1925, a daughter of the late
Harvey and Susan George Kerns.
Her husband, Archie H. Powell, preceded her in death.
Surviving are two sons, Archie Powell Sr., Newport News, Va., and Richard
Ray Powell, Clarksburg; five grandchildren, Tracie Ice, Clarksburg,
Stephanie Karavias, Tina Marie Powell and Jason Powell, all of Newport
News, and Richard Layfield Jr., Clarksburg; five great-grandchildren,
Bethany Rose Ice, Clarksburg, Jazmine Powell, Joretta Karavias, Jason Lee
Powell II and Zachery Austin Powell, all of Newport News; and several
nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Rose Layfield; three
brothers, Roy, Lawrence and Harry Kerns and two sisters, Thelma Stonestreet
and Margaret Holbert.
Mrs. Powell was a member of the Holy Trinity Chapel, Clarksburg. She was a
homemaker.
Friends will be received at the Davis-Weaver Funeral Home, 329 East Main
St., Clarksburg, from 6-9 p.m. Monday. The funeral service will be
conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Patty Post
conducting the service. Interment will be in Greenlawn Masonic cemetery.
