BUCKHANNON -- Jane Paulette Cox, 48, of Buckhannon, died Wednesday, July 7, 1999, at St. Joseph's Hospital. She was born July 17, 1950, in Buckhannon, a daughter of Paul and Ella Neal Mackey. Her husband, Jim Cox, preceded her in death. Also surviving are one daughter, Crystal Cochran, Bridgeport; one sister, Patty Light, Greenwood, S.C.; and one sister-in-law, Nellie Stevens, Fairmont. Mrs. Cox was a member of the North Buckhannon United Methodist Church. She was a secretary at the Buckhannon-Upshur Intermediate School.

Ruth V. Duncan
MANNINGTON -- Ruth Velma Duncan, 84, of Hundred, died Wednesday, July 7, 1999, at her residence. She was born Oct. 5, 1914, in Smithfield, the daughter of the late Luther and Essie A. Price Ice. Her husband, Paul Bennett Duncan, preceded her in death on May 15, 1985. Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Dale and Dottie Duncan, Hundred, with whom she made her home, and Jerry Lee and Sue Duncan, Mannington; six grandchildren, Linda Duncan, Sandra Duncan, David Duncan, Larry Duncan, Sheryl Duncan, and Joseph Duncan; and one great-grandson, Paul Brice Duncan. She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Bessie Lucille Duncan. Mrs. Duncan was a homemaker. She enjoyed music, playing the piano, and quilting. Mrs. Duncan was a graduate of Smithfield High School. She was Methodist. Reynald F. Gervais Reynald Ferdinand Gervais, 74, of 169 Grant St., Clarksburg, died Wednesday, July 7, 1999, in the Louis A. Johnson Veterans Administration Hospital following an extended illness. He was born June 27, 1925, in Granby, Canada, a son of the late William and Elodia Parent Gervais. Surviving are two sons, Michael Gervais, Quiet Dell, and Tony Gervais, Provo, Utah; one daughter, Rita Grant, Salem, Conn.; three sisters, Rejeanne Dupere, Fayetteville, N.C., Doris Scepanski, Jewett City, Conn., and Constance Smith, Bonita Springs, Fla.; five brothers, Marcel Gervais, Port St. Lucie, Fla., Donald Gervais, Central Village, Conn., Germain Gervais, Moosup, Conn., Claude Gervais, Montreal PQ, Canada, and Gilbert Gervais, New London, Conn.; and 10 grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Rejean Gervais and Roland Gervais; and two sisters, Marielle Beausoleil and Yvette Tourangeau. Mr. Gervais was Catholic. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Gervais was a member of the Meuse Argonne Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 573. Friends will be received at the Davis-Weaver Funeral Home, 329 E. Main St., Clarksburg, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. today. Catholic burial rites will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Father Cesidio J. Federico presiding. Interment will follow in the Floral Hills Memorial Gardens cemetery.

Robert J. Hood
NUTTER FORT -- Robert John Hood, 62, of Station C, died at 7:30 a.m. Thursday, July 8, 1999, at his residence following a brief illness. He was born Jan. 11, 1937, in Nutter Fort, a son of Audra M. Sandy Hood, Station C, and the late Harry E. Hood. Also surviving are one son, Robert F. Hood, Columbus, Ohio; two daughters, Mrs. Junior (Gretchen) Duty, Gallaway, Ohio, and Mrs. Glenn (Donna Jo) Hall, Lakeville, Ohio; one brother and sister-in-law, Clem E. and Judy Hood, Clarksburg; two sisters, Gloria S. Cross, Station C, and Kathy Gregory, Dallas, Texas; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Hood attended the House of the Lord Jesus Christ, East Main Street, Clarksburg. He was a retired roofer and a veteran of the U.S. Army with the Paratroopers. Friends will be received at the Greathouse Funeral Home, Nutter Fort Chapel, from 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. today. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in the Sunset Memorial Park.

Stella C. Slamick
FAIRMONT -- Stella C. Slamick, 80, of Fairmont died at 8: 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 7, 1999, at the Heritage Nursing Home in Bridgeport.
She was born Aug. 30, 1918, in Valley Head, Randolph County, a daughter of the late Charles Carter and Olive Rose Beal Wood.
Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Doris and Howard Mitchell, Clarksburg; two sons and daughters-in-law, Paul Joseph and Joan Slamick, Bridgeport, and James Edward and Lynne Slamick, Charleston; three brothers, John Wood, Cleveland, Ohio, Paul Wood and Dale Wood, both of Fairmont; two sisters, Mrs. Winnie Ward, Buckhannon, and Mrs. Birdie Workman, Fairmont; two grandons, Joseph and Jeremy Slamick; six granddaughters, Paula Slamick-Foy, Mary Slamick-Hall, Victoria Kesner, Peggy Fornash, Nancy Mitchell and Sara Slamick, and four great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by one grandson, Robert J. Mitchell; one brother, Howard, and four sisters, Leta, Georgia, Alta and Lena.
Mrs. Slamick was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, Court Joan of Arc, No. 341, Fairmont, a member of St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, and a former member of the St. Francis Cabrini Guild.

Levoine M. Fleming
GASSAWAY -- Levoine M. Fleming, 77, of Sutton died Wednesday, July 7, 1999, at her residence following an extended illness.
She was born Feb. 4, 1922, in Braxton County, a daughter of the late Earle and Delila Adams Morrison Sr.
Her husband, Homer R. Fleming, survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Connie F. Waldeck, Rootstown, Ohio; one son, Charles S. Fleming, Sutton; two sisters, Martha Brosius, Sutton, and Anna Parker, Dayton, Ohio, and four grandchildren.
Mrs. Fleming was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Gassaway United Methodist Church.

James A. Hendrickson II
BRIDGEPORT -- James A. Hendrickson II, of O'Cello Street, Clarksburg, died Friday, July 9, 1999, at his residence following an extended illness.
He was born in Clarksburg, the son of the late James and Mary Alkire Hendrickson.
His wife, Macey Mae Cody Hendrickson, whom he married on Nov. 23, 1937, survives.
Also surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Patty and Edward L. Malone, Clarksburg; three grandchildren, Dr. James (Leslie) Malone, Bridgeport, Maria (Kenny) Smith and Melissa Hendrickson, all of Clarksburg, and three great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by one son, James "Jimbo" Anthony Hendrickson III.
Mr. Hendrickson was a retired conductor for the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad and the Chessie Systems Railroad. He was also retired from Staten Island Rapid Transit in New York, where he worked during World War II.
He was a member of the Railroad Trainmens Union, the Knights of Columbus and Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church.
Friends will be received at the Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Ave., Bridgeport, from 6-9 p.m. today and 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Sunday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, with the Rev. Father Ed Sabo presiding. Interment will follow in the Holy Cross cemetery.

Robert S. Meredith
WESTOVER -- Robert Shawn Meredith, 35, of 200 Florida Ave., Westover, died Friday, July 9, 1999, at Ruby Memorial Hospital.
He was born Aug. 21, 1963, in Fairmont, a son of Robert and Aida Meredith, Morgantown, and Toni A. Gemondo Meredith, Clarksburg.
Also surviving are a longtime companion, Crystal Smith; two sons, Anthony Joseph Meredith and Blair Hunter Meredith, both of Morgantown; three brothers, Frank Joseph Meredith and companion Brandi Given, Morgantown, Michael Shannon and Cheryl Meredith, Rivesville, and James Neil Meredith and companion Tina Golden, Morgantown; paternal grandmother Margaret Meredith, Fairmont; maternal grandmother Lela Gemondo, Shinnston; four stepbrothers, Matthew and Michael Cress, Morgantown, Dennis Cress, Phoenix, Ariz., and Paul Cress, California, and two stepsisters, Sandra Kennedy and Sheila Elliott, both of Morgantown.
He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, James R. Meredith and James A. Gemondo.
Mr. Meredith was a self-employed laborer.
He was Methodist.
Mr. Meredith served in the U.S. Navy for over three years.

Thelma J. Pumphrey
WESTON -- Thelma Jean Pumphrey, 65, of Route 2, Homewood Community, Weston, died at 1:10 p.m. Thursday, July 8, 1999, in United Hospital Center, Clarksburg, following a brief illness.
She was born Oct. 3, 1933, in Braxton County, a daughter of Minnie William Conrad, Homewood, and the late Stanton Conrad.
Her husband, Ed Pumphrey, whom she married on Dec. 10, 1952, survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Robert Lee Pumphrey, Homewood, Dale Edward Pumphrey, Camden, and Denzil Lynn Pumphrey, Weston; two daughters, Brenda Ables, Copley, and Joyce Ann Marple, Homewood; four brothers, Virgil Conrad and Delbert "Jimmy" Conrad, both of Roanoke, Va., Ray Conrad, Maxwell Run, and Clyde Conrad, Homewood; four sisters, Wilma Pumphrey and Mary Buckhannon, both of Homewood, Geneva Vankirk, Deanville, and Juanita Riffle, Newton Falls, Ohio, and 11 grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by one son, Darrell Eugene Pumphrey.
Mrs. Pumphrey was retired from Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital in Weston with 26 years of service.
She attended the Jennings Run Church of God.
Friends will be received at the Boyle Funeral Home, 322 Main Ave., Weston, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. today. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Clyde Crites officiating. Interment will follow in the Peterson cemetery.

Sam A. Rizzo
FAIRMONT -- Sam Anthony Rizzo, 78, of Westwood Lane, Fairmont, died Friday, July 9, 1999, at his residence.
He was born April 6, 1921, in Simpson, a son of the late Antonio and Philomena Lucente Rizzo.
Twice married, his first wife, Rose Marie Cerullo Rizzo, preceded him in death, and his second wife, Helen Lipari Rizzo, survives.
Also surviving are three daughters and two sons-in-law, Patricia Marie Rizzo, Fairmont, Frances Ann and Mark Jurick, Fairmont, and Linda Jean and Huey Cockerham, Huntington; one grandson, Mark Christopher Jurick, Fairmont; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Philomena "Florence" and Ralph Sellers, Fairmont, Rose Rizzo, Reno, Nev., and Sarah and John Iaquinto, Los Altos, Calif.; one brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Velma Rizzo, Fairmont, and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Rizzo was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Fairmont, a member of Knights of Columbus Council No. 942, a member of the Christopher Columbus Lodge, a member of American Legion Post No. 17, a member of the Disabled American Veterans, a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 629, and a member of Moose Lodge No. 9.
He was in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving four years.
Mr. Rizzo had retired from Owens-Illinois in 1978 and owned and operated Sam's Confectionery for over 16 years.
He was on the Fairmont Senior High School All State Basketball Team in 1939 and made the West Virginia All State Team in 1940.

Fernie E. Smith
BUCKHANNON -- Fernie E. Smith, 85, of Buckhannon, formerly of Czar, died Friday, July 9, 1999, in Davis Memorial Hospital, Elkins.
She was born April 12, 1914, in Czar, a daughter of the late Rosco and Sarah Lewis Cutright.
Her husband, Frank Smith, whom she married on Oct. 10, 1933, preceded her in death on Oct. 4, 1996.
Surviving are three sons, Dean Smith, Buckhannon, Warren Smith, Cleveland, and Wilbert Smith, Mill Creek; one brother, Herbert Cutright, Cleveland; one sister, Ione Laden, Dailey; six grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Clefta Poling and Viola Price.
Mrs. Smith was a member of the Beech Mountain Sportsmen Club Auxiliary, a member of the Rebecca Lodge, Pickens, a member of the Helvetia Extension Homemakers, and a member of the Pine Grove United Methodist Church.
She was a homemaker.

David K. Queen
BUCKHANNON -- David Kyle Queen, 84, of Route 5, Box 353, Buckhannon, died at 5:15 a.m. Friday, July 9, 1999, at the home of his son, Leo Queen.
He was born Sept. 8, 1914, a son of the late Wade L. and Iowa Warner Queen.
His wife, Zola Geraldine Karickhoff Queen, whom he married on March 2, 1935, survives.
Also surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Leo Gene and Dawn Queen, Hodgesville; one granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Debbie Queen and Mark Miller, Hodgesville; one grandson and his fiancee, Michael Allen Queen and Amy Rohr, Hodgesville, and two great grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by one grandson, David Waid Queen, and two brothers, Eugene and Otto Queen.
Mr. Queen was a coal miner and a farmer. He attended the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church.
Mr. Queen was a member of the United Mine Workers of America and the Upshur County Farm Bureau.

Robert H. Starkey
PHILIPPI -- Robert Howard Starkey, 70, of Whitman Run Road, Route 2, Philippi, died Wednesday, July 7, 1999, at his residence.
He was born May 24, 1929, in Philippi, a son of the late Raddy Roscoe and Ethel Mae Skidmore Starkey.
His wife, the former Helen Virginia Hymes Lantz, preceded him in death on May 12, 1994.
Surviving are two daughters, Tressa Blount, Clarksburg, and Ruth Ann Beere, Toronto, Canada; one stepson, Larry G. Lantz, Philippi; one brother, Frank Starkey, Galloway; one sister, Juanita Trader, Brownton; one grandson, Brian Douglas Beere, and one great-granddaughter.
He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Marie Wiseman and Violet McCord, and three brothers, Fred Starkey, Denzil Starkey and John W. Starkey.
Mr. Starkey was a former handyman.

Dolly J. Summers
BUCKHANNON -- Dolly Jessie Summers, 79, of Big Bend Community, Tallmansville, died Thursday, July 8, 1999, at the home of her granddaughter in Clarksburg.
She was born Dec. 14, 1919, in Upshur County, a daughter of the late David Jackson Humphrey and Eva Forest Reynolds Humphrey Ware.
Her husband, Roy Clayton Summers, whom she married on Oct. 4, 1943, preceded her in death on March 1, 1969.
Surviving are seven sons, Basil Summers, Roy Summers Jr. and Theodore Summers, all of Buckhannon, David Summers, Port Jervis, N.Y., Andrew Summers, Louisville, Ky., Jerry Summers, Ozark, Ala., and Johnny Summers, Apple Creek, Ohio; five daughters, Emma Cutright, Rebecca Flannery and Lena Gooden, all of Buckhannon, Helen Summers, Gilroy, Calif., and Janet Lough, Clarksburg; one adopted son, Greg Blagg, Apple Creek, Ohio; three sisters, Daisy Ware, Volga, Ruth Umble, Lorentz, and Helen Kirkpatrick, Washington; 22 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Summers was a homemaker.
