Johnnie B. Witherington
PHILIPPI -- Johnnie B. Witherington, 81, of Route 3, Philippi, died at 7:50 p.m. Thursday, July 8, 1999, in United Hospital Center, Clarksburg.
He was born Nov. 2, 1917, in Grifton, N.C., a son of the late Adrian Oliver and Florence M. Jones Witherington.
His wife, the former Mamie Catherine Weaver, whom he married on Nov. 18, 1948, survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Joyce Freeman, Route 3, Philippi; one son, Johnnie Witherington, Mims, Fla.; two stepdaughters, Grace Little and Nancy Miller, both of Baltimore, Md.; one stepson, Ronnie Lambert, Coco, Fla.; two sisters, Bonnie Dudley, Moorehead City, N.C., and Lovie Pagnoni, Baltimore; three grandchildren, Darell Witherington and Tony Witherington, both of Baltimore, and Roxann Freeman, Morgantown; one great-grandchild, and several stepgrandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by one stepson, Frank Lambert; one stepgrandson, Frank Lambert Jr.; two sisters, Etta Justice and Grace Griffin, and one brother, Gray Witherington.
Mr. Witherington was retired from Bethlehem Steel in Baltimore.
He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army.
Mr. Witherington was a member of the Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, Brownton, the Galloway Senior Citizens and Philip Barbour Post No. 3560, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Philippi.

Lucy M. Anderson
PINE GROVE -- Lucy Mae Anderson, 60, of Jacksonburg, died Sunday, July 11, 1999, at her residence.
She was a daughter of the late Jim and Alice Burdine Shreve.
Her husband, James Anderson, survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Jim Myers and John Myers, both of Smithfield, and William Myers, Jacksonburg; four daughters, Linda Jarvis, Jacksonburg, Debbie Wade, New Martinsville, Patricia Pernell, West Union, and Joni McDaniels, Worthington; two brothers, Russ Roberts, East Liverpool, Ohio, and Bill Shreve, Reader; two sisters, Martha Miller and Lillie Greathouse, both of New Martinsville; 16 grandchildren and one great-grandson.
She was also preceded in death by one son, Tommy Paul Myers; one granddaughter, Amanda Myers; six brothers, John Shreve, Delbert Roberts, Charles Shreve, John Shreve, Columbus Shreve, and Charles Roberts; and two sisters, Goldie Leek and Edna Shreve.
Mrs. Anderson was a former worker for the Drapery Factory in New Martinsville and the Clothing Factory of West Union.
She attended the Church of Christ.
Friends will be received at the Palmer Funeral Home, Pine Grove, from 2-9 p.m. today and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in the Knights of Pythias cemetery in Pine Grove.

Genevieve M. Bolyard
PHILIPPI -- Genevieve Maude Bolyard, 87, of Galloway community, died Saturday, July 10, 1999, in the Heartland of Preston County, Kingwood, where she had been a patient for several years.
She was born Jan. 17, 1912, in Rowlesburg, Preston County, a daughter of the late Sylvester and Misouria Funk Bolyard.
Surviving are one son, Tracy Wayne Bolyard; one sister, Mae Katherine Grim, Galloway; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Walter Bolyard, James Russell Bolyard, and Jasper Bolyard; and three sisters, Nellie Knotts, Mini Florence Bolyard, and an infant sister.
Ms. Bolyard was a graduate of the Chicago School of Nursing and a former registered nurse.
She was Methodist.
Friends will be received at the Stemple & Forman Funeral Home, Philippi, from 3-9 p.m. today and 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesday. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Ruth Higginbotham officiating. Interment will follow in the Flemington I.O.O.F. cemetery.

Dessie R. Carpenter
BELINGTON -- Dessie Rosetta Carpenter, 81, of Route 1, Box 185, Montrose, died Saturday, July 10, 1999, at her residence following an extended illness.
She was born Jan. 30, 1918, a daughter of the late Waitman and Emaline Poling Skidmore.
Her husband, Charles Harold Carpenter, whom she married on May 30, 1952, preceded her in death on Feb. 1, 1979.
Surviving are three daughters, Janet Bennett, Parsons, Mary Lou Shaver and Ruth Shahan, both of Route 1, Montrose; one son, John Harold Carpenter, Route 1, Montrose; three sisters, Bessie D. Carpenter, Moundsville, Eva Grace McDonald, Belington, and Janet Delauder, Clinton, Ohio; and 10 grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by three sisters and one brother.
Mrs. Carpenter was a farmer and homemaker.
She attended the Mt. Zion Church of the Brethren.
Friends will be received at the Schoonover-Stemple Funeral Chapel, Belington, from 2-9 p.m. today and from 9-11 a.m. Tuesday. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Larry Poling officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Zion cemetery.

Ronnie K. Carroll
PENNSBORO -- Ronnie K. Carroll, 59, of Route 1, Center Point community, West Union, died Saturday, July 10, 1999, in Salem.
He was born Oct. 6, 1939, near Center Point, Doddridge County, the son of the late Ronald E. and Leona Underwood Carroll.
His wife of 39 years, Vera V. Swiger Carroll, survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Robin Underwood and Roberta "Bobbi" Reid, both of Center Point; and three grandchildren, Shaylin and Keith Reid, and Nikki Underwood.
Mr. Carroll was a retired oil field worker for the Quaker State Corporation with 31 years of service.
He was a member of the Center Point Christian Church.
Mr. Carroll was a graduate of Doddridge County High School with the Class of 1958.
He enjoyed woodworking and gardening.
Friends will be received at the McCullough-Rogers Funeral Home, 447 W. Myles Ave., Pennsboro, from 4-9 p.m. today and noon-1 p.m. Tuesday. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Center Point Christian Church with the Rev. C. D. "Butch" Gainer and the Rev. Paul Flanigan officiating. Interment will follow in the Center Point Christian Church cemetery.

Loraine R. Clelland
GRAFTON -- Loraine "Reenie" Clelland, 81, of Route 3, Grafton, died Sunday, July 11, 1999.
She was born Sept. 10, 1917, in Big Moses, Tyler County, a daughter of the late Effeil M. and Georgia V. Wright Spencer.
Her husband, Noel H. Clelland, whom she married on Feb. 5, 1937, preceded her in death on Feb. 5, 1999.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Delano (Karen) Brummett, Grafton; one daughter-in-law, Sue Waugh Rosier; eight grandchildren, Suzy O'Leary and Cindy Anderson, Pennsylvania, Ken Brummett, Phil Brummett, and Mike Brummett, all of Texas, Nathan Rosier, Massachusetts, Giselle Klingbert, Hungary, and Renae McAtee, Florida; and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Lawrence Spencer and Leslie "Bill" Spencer; and one daughter, Louise Spencer Thompson.
Mrs. Clelland was a housewife. She worked as a waitress at 4-Corners Restaurant in Grafton, and at the skating rink in Grafton.
She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church in Grafton.
Friends will be received at the Bartlett Funeral Home, 202 McGraw Ave., Grafton, from 2-9 p.m. Thursday. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday with the Rev. Bill Hall of the Grace Brethren Church of Grafton officiating. Interment will follow in the Woodsdale Memorial Park.

Willis B. Davis
SALEM -- Willis B. "Willie" Davis, 61, of Route 1, Sawyers Run community, Salem, died at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, July 10, 1999, at the United Hospital Center following an extended illness.
He was born April 12, 1938, in Harrison County, a son of the late Earl B. and Sissie V. Barker Davis.
His wife, Dixie Lee Bonnell Davis, whom he married on Sept. 13, 1965, survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Wilda L. Takahashi, Salem; one sister, Eva Bonnell, Salem; four brothers, Fred Davis, Willard Davis and James Davis, all of Salem, and William "Bill" Davis, Bristol; two grandchildren, Aika Elizabeth Takahashi and Brine Seiya Takahashi, both of Salem; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by one brother.
Mr. Davis had formerly been employed by the Judel Glass Factory in Salem, and the former Harvey Glass Factory in Clarksburg. He had also worked as a coal miner in various mines in the state of West Virginia.
He was an avid woodworker, electrician and plumber.
Mr. Davis was Protestant.
Friends will be received at the Harbert Funeral Home, 287 W. Main St., Salem, from 2-9 p.m. today and 2-9 p.m. Tuesday. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Lillian Simmons officiating. Interment will follow in the I.O.O.F. cemetery in Salem.

Henry B. Ford
PHILIPPI -- Henry B. Ford, 71, of Route 2, Webster community, Grafton, died at 8:17 p.m. Saturday, July 10, 1999, in the Ruby Memorial Hospital.
He was born March 11, 1928, in Taylor County, a son of the late Bayard and Icie Weaver Ford.
His wife, the former Monnie Miller, whom he married on March 10, 1956, survives.
Also surviving are one sister, Allene Amos, Grafton; and one brother, Rev. Donald Ford, Grafton.
He was also preceded in death by one brother, Glenn Ford.
Mr. Ford served with the U.S Navy from July 16, 1948 to July 2, 1952.
He was a member of the Webster Baptist Church.
Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home, 216 N. Walnut St., Philippi, after 3 p.m. today. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Larry Poling officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Castle cemetery with American Legion Post No. 44 conducting graveside rites.

Wilda M. Gibson
GRAFTON -- Wilda Margaret Gibson, 86, of Route 2, Grafton, died Saturday, July 10, 1999, following an extended illness.
She was born Dec. 29, 1912, in Harrison County, a daughter of the late John Thomas and Ida Elizabeth Williams Crumrine.
Her husband, Charles Raymond "Chuck" Gibson, whom she married on March 19, 1926, in Oakland, Md., preceded her in death on Aug. 13, 1981.
Surviving are two daughters, Violet L. McDaniel and Mrs. Earnest (Eleanor) McDaniel, both of Webster; two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles R. and Bonnie Gibson, and Michael K. and Robin Gibson, all of Mentor, Ohio; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Paul, Grover, and Lilburn Crumrine; one sister, Mrs. Ora E. Stewart; one son-in-law, Merle L. McDaniel; one grandson, Richard Gibson; and five great-grandchildren, including a set of twins.
Mrs. Gibson was a seamstress and cottage parent at the West Virginia Industrial School for Boys.
She was a faithful member of the Union Baptist Church and the Women's Society of Simpson.
Mrs. Gibson was a Past Nobel Grand of Star America Rebecca Lodge No. 79, Flemington.
Friends will be received at the Bartlett Funeral Home, 202 McGraw Ave., Grafton, from 2-9 p.m. today. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Mr. Edgar Heiskell, pastor at the Union Baptist Church of Simpson, officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Vernon cemetery in Philippi.

Joseph A. Mackey
BUCKHANNON -- Joseph Allen "Red" Mackey, 83, of 173 Pocahontas St., Buckhannon, died at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, July 10, 1999, in the St. Joseph's Hospital.
He was born Oct. 18, 1915, in Hundred, a son of the late Joseph William and Cora Bonnar Mackey.
His wife, Anna Elizabeth Gould Mackey, whom he married in 1943, preceded him in death in 1999.
Surviving are one daughter, Sharon Fincham, Williamstown; one brother, Edward Mackey; and two grandsons, Joseph Fincham, Springfield, Ohio, and John Fincham, Harrisonburg, Va.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Encil and Earl Mackey; and two sisters, Blanch Talkington and Wilma Peas.
Mr. Mackey was a meat cutter.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Mr. Mackey was a member of the West Virginia Wesleyan College Emeritus Club.
Friends will be received at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home, 95 S. Kanawha St., Buckhannon, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. today. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Richard R. McGuire officiating. Interment will follow in the Heavner cemetery.
