Neva Blake
FLEMINGTON -- Neva Blake, 88, of Route 1, Flemington, died Sunday, July 18, 1999, at United Hospital Center, Clarksburg.
She was born Aug. 6, 1910, in Taylor County, a daughter of the late Robert Lee and Mary Elizabeth Marshall McCauley.
She is survived by her husband, Elbert Blake.
Also surviving are three sons and two daughters-in-law, Robert and Linda Linville, Bridgeport, Michael Blake, Gary and Marilyn Blake, all of Flemington; two stepchildren, Betty Longenett, Grafton, Raymond Blake and his wife Audrey Blake, Berkeley Springs; six grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, and eight stepgreat-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by one son, Gerald Blake, four brothers and three sisters.
Mrs. Blake was a member of the Flemington Baptist Church. She was a homemaker and lived in the Astor Community all of her life.

Jeremiah T. Cale
PARSONS -- Jeremiah Thomas "Jerry" Cale, 67, of Licking District, St. George, died at 9:20 a.m., Monday, July 19, 1999, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, due to an extended illness.
He was born Aug. 25, 1931, in St. George, a son of the late Amos Lee and Mabel Josephine Shears Cale.
He was twice married, first to the former Violet June Sigley, who preceded him in death on March 3, 1959. Second, on June 16, 1962, he married the former Linda Loughry, who survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Johy Wayne Cale, Jerry D. Cale and his wife Jackie, Scott Cale and his wife Bonnie, all of St. George; one daughter, Mrs. Russell (Wanda) Carr, Warren, Ohio; three brothers, William Harry Cale, Baltimore, Md., Roger Cale, Independence, and John Cale, Abingdon, Md.; five sisters, Orpha Hayes, Terra Alta, Mrs. Arch (Rose) Amie, St. George, Mrs. Loren (Anna) Fitzwater, Moore, and Mrs. Virgil (Betty) Host and Patty Cale, both of Hopemont, and seven grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by one son, Harold Hayes Cale ; three brothers, Dale Ray Cale, Virgil Cale and Alfred Cale, and two sisters, Mary and Shirley Cale.
Mr. Cale attended the schools of Tucker County, was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, serving during the Korean Conflict, worked for many years as a sawyer, was a former employee of the Armour Leather Company until its closing and the Tucker County Hospital, and retired in 1994 from the West Virginia Department of Highways.
He was a member of Garnett Post No. 4322, Veteran of Foreign Wars, the Tucker County Senior Center, and was affiliated with the Macedonia United Methodist Church.

Orpha L. Cooper
SHINNSTON -- Orpha Lovie Cooper, 95, of Shinnston died Sunday, July 18, 1999, at Rife's Quality Care Home, Enterprise.
She was born Nov. 20, 1903, in Taylor County, a daughter of the late Abraham and Molly Withers McElfresh.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by her husband, Earl Cooper; one son, Earl Cooper, Jr., who was killed in World War II; two sisters, Wilma and Nona, and one half-brother, Odbert McElfresh.
After the death of her mother when Orpha was an infant, she went to live with the Hugh Currey family and grew up with the Currey children.
Before moving to Shinnston, Mrs. Cooper lived in Morgantown, where she volunteered with the Salvation Army. Until age and disability stopped her, she gave unstintingly of herself to working for and helping others. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Shinnston.
Friends will be received from 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. today at the Harmer Funeral Home, Shinnston, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. Ronald G. James officiating. Burial will follow in the Harmony Grove cemetery, Taylor County.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Deacons Fund, 70 Rebecca St., Shinnston, WV 26431.

James L. Elliott
FAIRMONT -- James Lee Elliott, 57, of Fairmont died Sunday, July 18, 1999, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, following a short illness.
He was born in Marion County, a son of Dorothy May Elliott, Monumental, and the late Samuel P. Elliott.
On May 24, 1997, he married Barbara "Bobbie" Kisner Elliott, who survives.
Also surviving are two stepdaughters, Vicky White and Mary J. White, both of Fairmont; one sister, Carol Samus and her husband J.D., Crisfield, Md.; one brother, Rick Elliott and his wife Sheila "Denny," Fairmont; one nephew, Jason Samus, Maryland; one niece, Crystal Elliott, Fairmont, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
In addition to his father he was preceded in death by his first wife, Karen Sue Hayhurst Elliott, on Nov. 11, 1995, and a stepdaughter, Virginia "Jenny" Jones.
Mr. Elliott was employed as a project engineer at Industrial Resources/Victory of West Virginia, Fairmont. He was formerly employed as a draftsman at Helmick Corp., Galis Manufacturing, FMC Corp. and Wilson Engineering.
He was a graduate of Barrackville High School, attended West Virginia University and graduated from Fairmont State College.
He was a member and past board member of the Barrackville United Methodist Church. He was a Boy Scout and Troop Leader for the Barrackville Troop. He was also a member of BPO Elks Lodge No. 294, the Y-Squares Western Style Square Dance Group and the Melody-Seekers Round Dance Group. He was a former president and present Eye Sight Chairman of the Fairmont Lions Club.
Mr. Elliott bowled in a Monday night league at the Fairmont Bowling Center. Of all his many interests, he enjoyed camping, square and round dancing the most.

S. Ross Harvey
S. Ross Harvey, 87, of Temple Terrace, Clarksburg, died at 12:50 a.m., Sunday, July 18, 1999, in Heartland of Clarksburg.
He was born on Oct. 28, 1911, in Hazelton, a son of the late Calvin Guy Harvey and Dessa Callis Harvey.
Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Kathryn Stemple Harvey; two sons and daughters-in-law, David C. and Janet Harvey, Lambertsville, Mich., and James E. and Marjorie Harvey, Newark, Del.; one sister, Mary Selders, Russell, Ky.; five grandchildren, Jeffrey Harvey, Fredricksburg, Va., Douglas Harvey, Richmond, Va., Patrick Harvey, Lambertsville, Gina Pace, Taylor, Mich., and Cynathia Harvey, Newark; two great-grandchildren, Rachel Harvey, Richmond, and Kathryn Harvey, Fredricksburg.
He was also preceded in death by one brother, the Rev. W. Ward Harvey, Keyser, and one sister, Mary Selders, Russell, Ky.
Mr. Harvey has been employed by the former Monongahela Power Company for over 40 years as a substation operator and dispatcher. He had worked in Morgantown, Flemington, Fairmont and retired in 1976 in Clarksburg. He was an active member of the Stealey United Methodist Church.
Friends will be received 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. today at Davis-Weaver Funeral Home, 329 E. Main St., Clarksburg, where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday. An internment service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Aurora cemetery, Aurora.

Nina R. Pasternak
Nina R. Pasternak, 64, of Frank Avenue, Clarksburg, died Saturday, July 17, 1999, at United Hospital Center, Clarksburg, following an extended illness.
She was born in Gypsy, July 19, 1934, a daughter of the late Walter and Gertrude Hamilton Hardman.
Surviving are one son, Ed Pasternak II, Parkersburg; three grandchildren, Jonna Garvin, Ann Pasternak and Laura Pasternak; three brothers, Noel Hardman, Nelson Hardman and Norman Hardman, all of Clarksburg; one sister, Naomi Boram, Wheeling, and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Pasternak was a retired land deputy with CNG with 15 years of service.
Friends may call at Davis Funeral Home, 443 W. Pike St., Clarksburg, from 6-8:30 p.m. today. The funeral service will be held at 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. A committal service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Sunset Memorial Park.

Waneta I. Riddle
WESTON -- Waneta Irene Riddle, 35, of Straley Addition, Jane Lew, died at 1 p.m., Sunday, July 18, 1999, in the Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, Ohio, after a long illness.
She was born Aug. 5, 1963, in Weston, a daughter of Jack and Eva Collins Ramsey, Jane Lew.
On July 20, 1991, she married William Dewayne Riddle, who survives.
Also surviving are one stepdaughter and son-in-law, Donnie and Amanda L. Combee, Lakeland, Fla.; two brothers, Jesse and Don Ramsey, both of Jane Lew; one sister, Jennifer Michael, Jane Lew; one stepgrandson, James Britton Combee, Lakeland, and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Riddle was a certified nursing assistant for United Hospital Center, Clarksburg, for two years and was a member of Grace Baptist Temple, Jane Lew.
Friends will be received 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. today at Floyd Funeral Home, 402 Main Ave., Weston. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Roger Brown officiating.

Lucille J. Turvey
PARSONS -- Lucille Jospehine Turvey, 70, of Jameson Avenue, Parsons, died at 10:04 p.m. Sunday, July 18, 1999, at Davis Memorial Hospital due to an extended illness.
She was born Jan. 6, 1929, in Steubenville, Ohio, a daughter of the late Verl and Rita Josephine Acconey Plemmons.
On March 4, 1950, in Mooretown, Ohio, she married Herbert Crosley Turvey Sr., who preceded her in death on Feb. 12, 1958.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Stephen (Rita Josephine) Murphy, Mount Nebo, and Mrs. Delmas (Rosa Irene) Hardy, Parsons; three sisters, Elizabeth "Betty" Rowe, Bergholz, Ohio, Sandra Dunn, Moscow, Idaho, and Donna Champion, Irondale, Ohio; three grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter.
She was also preceded in death by one son, Herbert Crosley "Bud" Turvey Jr., on Feb. 21, 1982.
Mrs. Turvey was a graduate of Bergholz High School with the Class of 1948. She retired from Parsons Footwear Company in 1994. She was a homemaker and a Methodist.

Shirley J. Tutalo
PHILIPPI -- Shirley Juanita Tutalo, 70, of Pleasant Valley, Fairmont, died Friday, July 9, 1999, in Monongalia General Hospital, Morgantown.
She was born on March 13, 1929, in Nemacolin, Pa., a daughter of the late John Vuchetich and Myrtle Timblin Vuchetich Flint, who survives.
She was married to Silvio Tutalo, who preceded her in death in 1981.
In addition to her mother, surviving are two sons and one daughter-in-law, Steve Tutalo, at home, and Jeff and Valeria Tutalo, Ripley; one daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Steve Bedell, Lake Jackson, Texas; three sister, Mary Lou Skidmore, Philippi, Beryl Jones, Painesville, Ohio, and Phyllis Lacare, Baltimore, Md.; six grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter.
Mrs. Tutalo was a member of Valley United Methodist Church, Pleasant Valley.

Ernest Utter
BRIDGEPORT -- Ernest Utter, 77, of Marshville Road died Monday, July 19, 1999, at his residence following an extended illness.
He was born on May 16, 1922, in Bristol, a son of the late Thomas David and Clara Ingram Utter. On Feb. 5, 1942, he married Katherine Isner Utter, who survives.
In addition to his wife, surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, James E. and Barbara Utter, Morgantown; two daughters and sons-in-law, Roy R. and Patricia Carder, Buckhannon, and William and Margaret McCartney, Bridgeport; eight grandchildren, Beth Brummer, Anissa Frerricks and Shane Carder, all of New York, Michael Carder, Bowling Green, Ky., William McCartney Jr., Houston, Texas, Shiela Adams, James E. and Kevin Utter, all of Morgantown; 11 great-grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Levinia Bee, Reynoldsville.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Mr. Utter retired from PPG Industries in 1974 with 30 years of service. He was a member of the Coplin United Methodist Church.
Friends will be received 7-9 p.m. today and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Ave., Bridgeport, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, with the Rev. Etheldean Yanero officiating. Interment will follow at Bridgeport cemetery.

Opal Walton
BUCKHANNON -- Opal Walton, 81, of Kanawha Head died Sunday, July 18, 1999, at her home.
She was born on Nov. 6, 1917, in Upshur County, a daughter of the late Huston G. and Cora L. Woods Strader.
In 1948, she married Harry Hartsel Walton, who preceded her in death in 1996.
Surviving are one son, Rickey R. Walton, Kanawha Head; one daughter, Mrs. Richard (Arveda) Marple, Hackers Creek; one stepdaughter, Norma L. Singleton, Yucca Valley, Calif.; three grandsons, Luke R. and his wife Crystal Marple, Hodgesville, Hughston R. Marple, Hackers Creek, and Houston H. Walton, Kanawha Head, and one granddaughter, Tiffany Walton, Kanawha Head.
She was also preceded in death by one granddaughter, Rebecca Marple.
Mrs. Walton was a homemaker.

Ernest J. Anderson
Ernest J. Anderson, 42, of Route 6, Clarksburg, died Monday, July 19, 1999, at his residence.
He was born on Oct. 21, 1956, in Pine Grove, a son of the late Andy C. Anderson and Pauline Ruth Reese Anderson Knapp.
Surviving are his wife, Jeannie Anderson, Jane Lew; two children, Michael and Melissa Anderson, both of California; three brothers, Ervin L. Anderson, Philippi, Sam Smith, Clarksburg, and Chris Knapp, Jane Lew; two sisters, Nancy Houston, Morgantown, and Janet Warner, Big Isaac; six nephews, and one niece.
He was also preceded in death by his stepfather, Carley Raymond Knapp.
Mr. Anderson was a Navy veteran, having served during the Vietnam War, and was a member of the Lost Creek Seventh Day Baptist Church.
Friends will be received 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Davis Funeral Home, 443 W. Pike St., Clarksburg, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, with the Rev. Stephen Osborn officiating. Interment will be in the Brick Church cemetery.
