M. Pauline Wing, 85, of Scott Depot died Saturday, July 16, 2005, at Putnam General Hospital following a short illness.

She was a member of Scott Depot Presbyterian Church, a homemaker, a veteran U.S. Air Force corporal, and a 48-year resident of Scott Depot.

Surviving: her husband of 59 years, M.K. Wing; son, Orin Paul Wing of Gibsonton, Florida; daughter, Joyce Ellen Long of Lancaster, South Carolina; sisters, Virginia “Genny” Ross of Sour Lake, Texas , Ramona “Peachie” Beaver of California, Sandra Jo Westfall of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Phyllis Safreed of St. Albans; brothers, Michael Williams of Ona and Bill Williams of Tampa, Florida; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

Service was private. Burial was in Forest Memorial Park, Milton. Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, was in charge of arrangements.

Thomas L. Sigman

Thomas L. “Dickie” Sigman, 81, of Poca died July 20, 2005 at Teays Health Care after a long illness.

He was born July 4, 1924 and was a lifelong resident of Putnam County. He was retired from the Iron Workers Local 301, a former coalminer and member of Nitro Masonic Lodge and Beni Kedem Shrine, Charleston.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marshall “Marsh” Sigman and Clara Sigman Stover, sisters, Virginia Sigman, Opal Washington and Oma Casto, and brother, Nelson Dunn.

Surviving: his wife of 48 years, Mary Jean Higginbotham Sigman; daughter, Susan E. Harrison Dempsey and husband, Earl L., of Winfield; grandsons, Richard D. and James E. “Jimmy” Harrison, both of Hurricane; sisters, Neola Boggess of Nitro and Cathleen Davidson of Cleveland, Ohio; brother, Omer Dunn of Hurricane; and his special friend, Charlie Britton of Kellys Creek.

Graveside service was held Friday, July 22, 2005, at Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel, Red House, with Pastor Darren Persinger officiating. Entombment followed in the memorial gardens. Gatens-Harding Funeral Home, Poca, was in charge of arrangements.

Cecelia Lacey Shaffer

Cecelia Lacey Shaffer, 87, of Raymond City died July 21, 2005.

She was born February 14, 1918. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Willard Shaffer and Chester Lacey.

She was an employee of Poca Supermarket for over 30 years and a faithful 60-year member of the Raymond City Community Church.

Surviving: daughter, Patricia Smith of Nitro; son, Virgil “Peewee' Lacey of Elizabeth; sister, Juanita Lewis of Raymond City; grandson with whom she resided, John McGlone; three other grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

Service was held Sunday, July 24, 2005, at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home with Pastor Floyd Holmes officiating. Burial was in Lilly Cemetery, Poca.

O.B. “Benny” Goddall

O.B. “Benny” Goddall, 75, of Scott Depot died July 21, 2005, at home.

He was retired from Monsanto with 45 years of service and a member and trustee of the First Baptist Church in Nitro.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha R. Goodall.

Surviving: children, Tammy Rohaley of Scott Depot, Joseph and wife, Caroll Goddall, of Tornado, Kimberly and husband, Steve Hoffman, of Scott Depot, and Scott Goodall of Greenville, South Carolina; grandchildren, Kayla Rohaley, Zachary Hoffman and Cassidy Hoffman.

Service was held Monday,, July 25, 2005, at the First Baptist Church, Nitro, with Dr. Lawrence Hoptry officiating. Burial was in Tyler Mountain memory Gardens. Gatens-Harding Funeral Home, Poca, was in charge of arrangements.

J.V. Byrnside

J.V. “Jake” Byrnside, 78, of St. Albans died July 22, 2005, at CAMC Memorial Hospital following a short illness.

Born January 20, 1927 in Putnam County, he was a son of the late George and Dana Byrnside. She was also preceded in death by his sister, Audra, and brothers, Ed, Ode, Cecil and Fred.

He was retired from the West Virginia Housing Development Fund as a construction analyst and was of the Baptist faith. He was a lifelong resident of Putnam and Kanawha Counties, and served his country during World War II with the U.S. Army. He loved square dancing, bowling, golfing and his animals.

Surviving: his wife of 53 years, Ruth B. Byrnside; daughter, Jan Frame of Scott Depot; sisters, Beulah Escue of Winfield and Jeannie Kaplan of Toledo, Ohio; brother, L.C. Byrnside of Atlanta, Georgia.

Service was held Monday, July 25, 2005, at Bartlett-Chapman Funeral Home, St. Albans, with the Rev. Charles Smith officiating. Burial was in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans.

Angela Sue Ferguson Cooper Mannon

Angela Sue Ferguson Cooper Mannon, 57, of Barboursville, W.Va., went to be with the Lord Monday, July 18, 2005, in Cabell Huntington Hospital. Funeral service were conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, July 21, 2005, at Chapman's Mortuary, Huntington by Pastor Don Pope and the Rev. Greg Creasy. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. Angela was born July 8,1948, in Huntington, W.Va., a daughter of Jesse and Beulia Shearer Ferguson of Barboursville. She was a graduate of Barboursville H.S. in 1966, and a graduate of Marshall University with a B.A. in education. She was a teacher at Duvall H.S. and Ashland Jr. College and was an Associate at Macy's-Huntington Mall. She was a member of the Living Water Free Methodist Church-Altizer, former 4-H Girl's State Archery Champ, and lifelong supporter of 4-H, member, camp counselor and a club leader. She loved reading, embroidery, and puzzles. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Carol Mannon; paternal grandparents, Jesse Ferguson Sr., “Doc” Granville and Goldie Blake; maternal grandparents, Herbert Shearer and Grace Ross; and an aunt Sharon Kay Allen. Additional survivors include: a son, George Mannon of Athalia, Ohio; brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Karen Ferguson of Monument, Colo.; a sister and brother-in-law, Deanna and Bradley Loescher of Mansfield, Ohio; aunts Joy Toney, Pat Jozwiakowski, and Sonuia and Richard Mays, all of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Dreamah Dawson of Winston-Salem, N.C.; one niece, one nephew, two great-nieces and one great-nephew; former husbands, James Cooper Jr. of Huntington and Roger Mannon of Athalia, Ohio; and many close friends. Donations may be made to the American Heart Association, Cancer Research, or the American Red Cross Blood Drive.

Nola Jean Dean

Nola Jean Dean, 66, of Ona, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, July 17, 2005, in St. Mary's Medical Center. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, July 20, 2005, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with Pastor Larry Skidmore and Pastor Doug Spurlock officiating. Burial in Forest Memorial Park, Milton. She was born March 22, 1939, in Cabell County, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Lawrence and Mildred Mobley Scarberry. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Robert “Bob” Scarberry. She is survived by her husband, Clinton Dean; two daughters and sons-in-law, Gloria and Jack Lee of Huntington and Rhonda and Charles Blosser of Lesage; two sons, Randy Dean of Ona and Stacy Dean and his fiancÈ, Tonya Barrett of Ona; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Lawrence and Juanita Scarberry of Ona and Fred and Patricia Scarberry of Lesage; one sister, Glenna Mehler of Circleville, Ohio; and five grandchildren, C.J., Shawna, Brittany, Tosha and Derek.

Laura I. Spradling
Laura I. Spradling, 78, of Hurricane died June 30, 2005, at the home of her son following a short illness.
She was born August 5, 1926 in Newton, Roane County, and was a graduate of Spencer High School and Capital Business College, Charleston. She was a previous employee of DuPont and Sears Roebuck and retired as an office manager of Catherine’s Stout Shop, Dunbar.
After the death of her husband, William B. Spradling Jr. in 1996, she moved to Hurricane where she was a devoted member of the Hurricane First Church of the Nazarene. She was a devoted mother and grandmother.
Surviving: daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and David Williamson of Northport, Alabama, Sherry and Greg Collins of Batesville, Mississippi; son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Lisa Spradling of Dunbar; grandsons, Justin and Jake Spradling of Dunbar; granddaughters, Susan Croft and Ginger Ray, both of Northport, Jessica Collins and Sarah Collins, both of Batesville; great-grandchildren, Laura, David and Caleb; aunts, Ruby Keaton Kingsbury of Falls Church, Virginia and Evelyn Keaton Andrews of Woodbridge, Virginia.
Service was held Sunday, July 3, 2005, at Hurricane First Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Phillip Bower officiating. Burial was in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, was in charge of arrangements.

Denver W. Allen
Denver Wade Allen, 54, of Poca died July 3, 2005, in CAMC Memorial Hospital.
He was a 1968 graduate of Buffalo High School, former construction manager with Associated Industrial Inc., and a member of Covenant Christian Fellowship.
Surviving: wife, Marsha; son, Denver W. “Denny” Allen II and wife, Kelli, of Poca; grandsons, Tyler and Peyton; parents, Frank and Velva Allen of Eleanor; sister, Ava L. Hescht of Eleanor; brothers, Frank Allen Jr. of Winfield, Robert Dean Allen of Hurricane and Fred L. Allen of Elliott City, Maryland.
Service was held July 6, 2005 at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home, Poca, with Pastor James M. Legg officiating. Burial was in Parkins Cemetery, Liberty.

Edgar L. Davis
Edgar L. Davis, 78, of Winfield died July 3, 2005, at home following a long illness.
He was born October 21, 1926 in Elkhurst to Luther W. and Thelma Davis. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving in the Pacific Theater of World War II, being honorably discharged in 1946. He was a 42-year lineman IBEW Local 317, and a member of the Hurricane Police Department off and on for several years.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Imogene Erwin Davis in 1977.
Surviving: his wife of 27 years, Ruth V. Davis; sons, Bud, Greg and wife, Lydia, Tim and wife, Lana; daughters, Shelva and husband, Roy, Sharon, and Tammi and husband, Dave; stepdaughters, Becky, Janet and husband, Alan, Jeanette, Edwana and husband, Richard, Lois, Kathy and husband, Patrick; siblings, Kent, Dale, Jeral, Clyde, May, Judy and Dottie.
Service was held July 6, 2005, at Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane, with Pastor Daniel Coleman officiating. Burial was in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes.

Charles A. Moore
Charles Adam Moore, 81, of Hurricane died July 1, 2005, after an automobile accident.
Born April 12, 1924 in Mason County, he was the son of the late Charles and Florence Moore and formerly lived in Huntington. Also preceding him in death was a sister, Lorena Angelo.
Surviving: his wife of 59 years, Helen Spears Moore; son, Terry Lee Moore and wife, Hope of Culloden; daughter, Carol Sue Coffman and husband, Frank of Elkview; grandchildren, Charles Jason Coffman and wife, Nancy of North Carolina, Michelle Matthai and husband, William of Maryland, Tracy Butler and husband, Richard of Culloden, and Jonah Lee Moore of Culloden; great-grandchildren, James, Dylan and Hunter Adam Butler of Culloden and Kerry Coffman of North Carolina; sisters, Mildred Gooderham of Huntington, Ellen McKee of North Carolina, and Mary Woodall of Barboursville.
A memorial service was held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovahs Witnesses in Hurricane on July 6, 2005. Chapman Mortuary, Huntington, was in charge of arrangements.

Ruby E. Shamblen
Ruby E. Shamblen, 84, of Poca died July 2, 2005, in SunBridge of Putnam Nursing Home.
She was a member of Faith Community Church, Black Betsy, and of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
Surviving: husband, Richard Shamblen; son, Lee Keiffer of Texas ; brother, Bobby Bonnett of Poca; sisters, Betty Williams and Delores Stewart, both of Ohio; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
Service was held July 7, 2005, at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home, Poca, with Pastor Ralph Workman officiating. Burial was in Big Cherry Cemetery.

Hilda Sullivan
Hilda Medley Sullivan, 89, of Buffalo died July 4, 2005, at home following a long illness.
She was a homemaker, a 60-year member of Buffalo United Methodist Church and a member of Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 150, Buffalo.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Stuart W. Sullivan, a daughter, Patricia Sullivan, and father, Emory Medley.
Surviving: sons and a daughter-in-law, Kent and Linda Sullivan of Winfield and Ronnie Sullivan of Buffalo; grandchildren and their spouses, Traci and Bryan Markham, Brian and Jennifer Sullivan, Rhonda and Greg Null, Jennifer and Matt Stotts; great-grandchildren, Zack, Kenna, Amber and Evan.
Service was held July 7, 2005, at Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo, with the Rev. Herk McGraw officiating. Burial was in Buffalo Memorial Park.

Otis C. “Ott” Salmons
Otis C. “Ott” Salmons, 74, of Barboursville, passed Tuesday, July 12, 2005, at St. Mary’s Medical Center. Funeral .services were conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, July 15, 2005 at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel by Rev. Greg Hudson. Burial in Forest Memorial Park, Milton. He was born March 18, 1931 in Hamlin, W.Va., a son of the late Tom and Rosa Burns Salmons. He was also preceded in death by one. brother, Russell Salmons. He was retired from C&P Telephone and was a veterans of the Korean War serving in the US. Air Force. He was a 1949 graduate of Hamlin High School, a member of the Telephone Pioneers and was active in the Little League and Boy Scouts where he served as Assistant Scoutmaster of Troop #63. He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Turner Salmons; one son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Debbie Salmons of Barboursville; six sisters, Marie Plumley of Hurricane, Hattie Holiday and Faye Hill, both of Ravenswood, Jewell Young of Beaver Creek, Ohio, Jean Garrett of California and Jocie Baize of Louisville, Ky.; one brother, Ray Salmons of Hamlin; three grandchildren, Kristi Christopher and Joshua Salmons, all of Barboursville; several nieces and nephews.

Janice Lou Nash Mills
Janice Lou Nash Mills, 75, of Barboursville went to heaven on Friday, July 15, 2005. She was born March 11, 1930, in Cabell County, the daughter of the late Thomas J. and Roberta B. Dillon Nash. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Mills, and two brothers, Thomas Nash and Gary Nash. Janice was a member of Steele Memorial United Methodist Church. She is survived by four sisters, Freda Benson, Loraine Sizemore, Catherine Morgan and Dee Dee Horn, and two brothers, Charles Nash and Jude Nash. Also surviving are one daughter, Karen Sue Walters and her husband Jack; four sons, Robert V. Mills, Roger P. Mills and his wife, Susan, Timothy A. Mills and his wife, Mernie, and Clinton B. Mills and his wife, Teresa; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren. Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements. Services were conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 19, 2005, at the Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville with the Rev. Ralph Sager and Dr. Ed Grant officiating. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were Shane Mills, Travis Mills, Ryan Walter, Tracy Blake, Jason Nash, Art Green, Dwane Ruggier, Dennis Smith and Jeremiah Clary. Donations may be made to Steele Memorial United Methodist Church Building Fund.

Michael Gethen Jenkins
Michael Gethen Jenkins, 56, of Raleigh, N.C., died Friday, July 15, 2005 at his home. A service was held Monday noon at Raleigh Memorial Park in the chapel mausoleum. Mr. Jenkins was born in Huntington, August 5, 1948. He is a veteran of the US Navy and a graduate of Marshall University. Michael had a thirty year career in information systems. He was a loving husband and extraordinary father. Michael is survived by his wife, Nancy Muller Jenkins; son, Matthew Reid Jenkins of Raleigh, N.C. and his wife Ginger; mother, Wanda Myers Vickers of Huntington; mother-in-law, Anita Muller of Huntington; sister-in-law, Marcia Muller of Jacksonville, Fla.; and special lifelong friends Greg and Jackie Stillwell of Huntington. He was preceded in death by his father, Gethen Jenkins and stepfather, Bill Vickers. Memorial donations or gifts may be made to: Asbury United Methodist Church, 6612 Creedmoor Road, Raleigh, NC.

Harlan “Pete” Robinson
Harlan “Pete” Robinson, 83, of Milton, passed away Saturday, July 16, 2005. Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, July 18, 2005, at the Wallace Funeral Home, Milton, by the Rev. Ronnie Marcum. Burial in Bicker Cemetery. He was born July 18, 1921 in Jackson, Ky., a son of the late Theo and Mary Little Robinson. He was a veteran of the US Army. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Bryan Robinson. He is survived by his longtime friend and caregiver, Shirley Sheppard of Milton.

Ivan E. “Pete” Call
Ivan E. “Pete” Call, 83, of Milton, passed away Thursday, July 14, 2005 in St. Mary’s Medical Center. Funeral service were conducted 2 p.m. Monday, July 18, 2005, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with the Rev. Wendell Shull officiating. Entombment in Forest Memorial Park Mausoleum, Milton. military graveside rites were conducted by American Legion, Post 139, Milton. He was born February 26,1922, in Hurricane, W.Va., a son of the late Pearl and May Call. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He is survived by three children, daughter Brenda and son-in-law, Lonnie Lee Shull; son, Bud and daughter-in-law, Sharon Kay Shull Call; daughter, Linda and son-in-law, Glen Johnson all of Milton; six sisters, Launa Davis of Culloden, Burnlene Handley, of Hurricane, Pauline Rowe and Dillie Taylor both of Huntington, Ernestine Rice of Georgia, W.Va., and Eldora Clark of Pt. Pleasant, WVa; one brother, Ernest Clay Call of Hurricane, W.Va.; thirteen grandchildren and their spouses, Scottie and Annette, Randy, Jamie and Ginny, Kristy and Donald, Terry and Alaine, Tracy and Tanya, Angie and Jason, Ricky, Brenda, Martha, Glenna and John, Debbie and Billy, and Glen, Jr.; 24 great-grandchildren; companion, Shirley Call; and a host of friends. Violet Eloise Clagg Rayburn, 82, of Barboursville, passed away Thursday, July 14, 2005 in St. Mary’s Medical Center. Funeral services were conducted at noon Monday, July 18, 2005 at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, by Rev. Richard Black. Burial in Oaklawn Memorial Park. She was born April 29, 1923, in Milton, a daughter of the late George E. and Garnett Cremeans Clagg. She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Larry W. and Karen Clagg of Barboursville, Jack and Kim Rayburn, of Barboursville, and Pat and Mary Rayburn of Huntington; one sister, Ruth Alberts Burks and her husband Harold Lee; one brother whom Violet thought of as a loving son, Burman Clagg and his wife Charlene who was a very special sister-in-law, all of Barboursville; a very special niece, Jean Bevans; eleven grandchildren; two granddaughters-in-law and one great-granddaughter.

Winifred R. Honaker
Winifred R. Honaker, 95, of Millville, NJ, passed away Friday, June 17, 2005 in the SJH Reg. Med. Ctr., Vineland, after being in failing health. Mr. Honaker was born and raised in Culloden, WV and had resided in Millville for the past 44 years. He was the son of the late William Amos and Josephine Burns Honaker. He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Ray Coger in 1994 and his sons, John, Paul, William, (Billy) Amos and Phillip Ramey; and two grandsons. Before retiring, Mr. Honaker was employed as an electrician with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union. He was US Army veteran of WWII. Winifred married Ora Belle Martin Weekly March 19, 1930. He is survived by daughters, Rebecca Richter of Tuckahoe, NJ, Linda Sutton of Naples, FL, Debra Bland of Cedarville, NJ, Jacqueline Wurtzel of Greenwich, NJ, Reba Jones of Sidney, OH, Wanda Trabert of West Liberty, OH and Dorothy Workman of Huntington, WV; sons, Larry of Eugene, OR and Marvin T. of Sidney, OH, 48 grandchildren, 81 great grandchildren; one sister, Frances and one brother, Ernest, both of WV. Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, in the Pancoast Funeral Home, Vineland, NJ. Burial was in Greenwood Memorial Park, Millville, NJ.
