Lovie M. Henry
WESTON -- Lovie Mildred Henry, 92, of North River Avenue, Weston, died at 4:45 a.m. Tuesday, July 27, 1999, in Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital, Weston, following an extended illness.
She was born March 10, 1907, in Vadis, a daughter of the late Clarence W. Butcher and Josephine B. Short Butcher.
On Sept. 21, 1933, she married Ronald B. "Sonny" Henry, who preceded her in death on April 29, 1987.
Surviving are three sons and two daughters-in-law, Gary Henry, Jerry and Ruth Ann Henry, Ronald and Alice Henry, all of Weston; two daughters and sons-in-law, Martha and Gordon Hall, Wheeling, and Mary Jo and Zane Perkey, Weston; 13 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, having been also preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
Mrs. Henry was a homemaker. She was a member of the Clark Chapel United Methodist Church, a member of the Theresa Snaith Auxiliary of Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital, Weston, and a lifetime member of the Deanville Homemakers Club.
Friends will be received at the Floyd Funeral Home, 402 Main Ave., Weston, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today, where the funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. David Krum officiating. Interment will follow in the Ward cemetery on Hammer Straight.

George O. Jackson
BUCKHANNON-- George O. Jackson, 82, of Route 4, Buckhannon, died at 1:02 a.m. Tuesday, July 27, 1999, in St. Joseph's Hospital, Buckhannon.
He was born Aug. 27, 1916, in Buckhannon, a son of the late Minter Jason and Mary Virginia Booth Jackson.
Surviving are one daughter, Mary Ann Andreae, Myrtle Beach, S.C.; three sons, George E. Jackson, Green Cove Springs, Fla., Jack R. Jackson, Yeaddiss, Ky., and Thomas J. Jackson, Mauertown, Va.; one sister, Woody Montgomery, Murrells Inlet, S.C.; one brother, Warren Jackson, Buckhannon; and one grandson, Richard J. Andreae, Myrtle Beach.
Mr. Jackson was a railroader.
He was a member of the Lake Lodge, A.F.&A.M., in Crescent City, Fla.

Minnie P. Fitzpatrick-Rollins
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Minnie Pearl Fitzpatrick-Rollins, 84, of Wisteria Mansion, Massachusetts Avenue, Washington D.C., died Thursday, July 8, 1999, following a brief illness.
She was born in Clarksburg, a daughter of the late Henry and Pearl McWilliams Fitzpatrick.
She was twice married and preceded in death by her first husband, Ernest Strait, in 1955, and her second husband, Jack Rollins, in 1971.
Surviving are four nieces, Sandra Patterson, Alice Kimble, Elaine Coole and Joan Freeman; two nephews, Bill Nixon and Hank Fitzpatrick; and one sister-in-law, Margaret Fitzpatrick.
She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Robert, Hank, John and Benjamin Fitzpatrick, and one sister, Lena Fitzpatrick Nixon.
Mrs. Rollins previously was a realtor in the D.C. area for many years and she managed the Wisteria Mansion Apartments for 27 years where she made her home.
She loved music and entertaining friends at her Washington, D.C. home.
A memorial service was held at 1 p.m. July 14 in Glenwood cemetery, Washington, D.C., with the Rev. J. Gunkel presiding.

Nancy J. Walden
Nancy J. Walden, 98, of Fairfax, Va., formerly of Clarksburg, died Monday, July 26, 1999, in Culpeper Health Center, Culpeper, Va.
She was born Dec. 3, 1900, in Remington, Va.
Surviving are one daughter, Margaret Helmick, Mine Run, Va.; one son, James Walden, Zephyrhills, Fla.; one brother, Vernon James; two sisters, Mary Alice James and Eleanor Jean Fryer; seven grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Opal Walton
BUCKHANNON -- Opal Walton, 81, of Kanawha Head, died Sunday, July 18, 1999, at her residence.
She was born Nov. 6, 1917, in Upshur County, a daughter of the late Huston G. and Cora L. Woods Strader.
In 1948, she married Hary Hartsel Walton, who preceded her in death in 1996.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Richard (Arveda) Marple, Hackers Creek; one son, Rickey R. Walton, Kanawha Head; one stepdaughter, Norma L. Singleton, Yucca Valley, Calif.; three grandsons, Luke R. and his wife, Crystal Marple, Hodgesville, Hughston R. Marple, Hackers Creek, and Houston H. Walton, Kanawha Head; and one granddaughter, Tiffany Walton, Kanawha Head.
She was also preceded in death by one granddaughter, Rebecca Marple.
Mrs. Walton was a homemaker.

Gary L. Snider
PHILIPPI -- Gary Lynn Snider, 56, a resident of Woodbridge, Va., formerly of Philippi, died at 6:45 a.m. Monday, July 26, 1999, at Fair Oaks Hospital, Fairfax, Va.
He was born April 17, 1943, in Philippi, a son of the late Olen Henry and Ruby C. Jones Snider.
He married the former D. Paulette Cox, who survives.
Also surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Donna Lynn and Rick Pryor, Centreville; one son and daughter-in-law, Gary Paul and Jodie Snider, Colorado Springs, Colo.; two sisters, Wilma Delauder, Valley Bend, and Arlene Delauder, Morgantown; two brothers, Dick and wife Nancy Snider, Belington, and Bob and wife Marsha Snider, Flemington; three grandchildren, David Snider, Jason Snider and Sydney Paige Pryor; his extended family, Madoline Holbert, Harold and Melanie Cox, Mac and Nancy MacDonald, and Philip and Terry Kines, and several special nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by one brother, Olen Henry Snider Jr.
Mr. Snider was employed by United Parcel Service as a letter carrier.

Barrick L. Brown
Barrick L. Brown, 79, of Richmond, Ind., formerly of Nutter Fort, died Sunday, July 25, 1999, in the Pinehurst Nursing Home, Centerville, Ind., following an extended illness.
He was born on July 5, 1920, in Newburg, a son of the late Lee C. Brown and Elsie Elizabeth Shay Brown.
His wife, Catherine Thomas Brown, preceded him in death.
Surviving are one son, Robert A. Brown, New Carlisle, Ohio; one daughter, Donna Lee Ryan, Richmond, Ind.; one brother, G. Lynn Brown, Nutter Fort; two sisters, Janille Estee and Vanetta Bowen, both of Nutter Fort; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by one brother.
Mr. Brown retired from Union Carbide after 28 years of service. He served in the Army during World War II and was a life member of Meuse Argonne Post No. 573, Veterans of Foreign Wars of which he was a past commander.
He was a past commander of the Mountaineer County Council.
Friends will be received at Davis-Weaver Funeral Home, 329 E. Main St., Clarksburg, 5-9 p.m. Wednesday, where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, with the Rev. D.D. Meighen presiding. Interment will be in the Floral Hills Memorial Gardens cemetery.

Hoy Carpenter
BUCKHANNON -- Hoy Carpenter, 94, of Ellamore, died Monday, July 26, 1999, at the home of his son, James.
He was born on April 15, 1905, in Hemlock, a son of the late Eli and Gertrude Tenney Carpenter.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Zickefoose Carpenter, Belington.
Also surviving are seven sons, Arden Carpenter, Phoenix, Ariz., Ralph Carpenter, Buckhannon, Lonnie Carpenter, Kesling Mill Road, Lonzo and Freeman Carpenter, both of Belington, James and Roger Carpenter, both of Ellamore; three daughters, Gertrude Neeley, Charleston, Berneda Rhodes, Clinton, Tenn., and Mary Carpenter, Belington; 37 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; one brother, Sollaman Carpenter, Hemlock; one sister, Elva Lloyd, Hemlock.
He was also preceded in death by two sons, one daughter, four brothers and five sisters.
Mr. Carpenter was a timberman.

Sylvia D. Eddy
SALEM -- Sylvia Deloris Eddy, 75, of Liberty Street, Industrial, died at 8:50 a.m., Monday, July 26, 1999, at her residence, following an extended illness.
She was born on Oct. 25, 1923, at Buck Run, Ritchie County, a daughter of the late Thomas and Addie Ingram Dotson.
On Aug. 10, 1942 she married James A. Eddy, who preceded her in death on May 21, 1992.
Surviving are one daughter, Minnie Deloris "Sid" Carder, Industrial; six sons, Daniel R. "Danny" Eddy, St. Mary's, Michael Roy Eddy, James "Knuck" Eddy, Gary L. Eddy and twins, Wayne T. and Wade A. Eddy, all of Salem; two sisters, Jewel Dillon, Akron, Ohio, and Betty Jones, Ellenboro; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Mrs. Eddy was a member of the Salem Church of Christ.
She was a homemaker and enjoyed quilting and crossword puzzles.
Friends will be received 7-9 p.m. today and from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Harbert Funeral Home, 287 W. Main St., Salem, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, with the Rev. Albert Farley officiating.

Velva J. Gifford
SHINNSTON -- Velva Jane Gifford, 85, of Wallace, died Monday, July 26, 1999, in Heartland Nursing Home.
She was born on Jan. 1, 1914, in Wallace, a daughter of the late John Robert and Mary Elizabeth Baker Shaw.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tillman A. Gifford, in 1968.
Surviving are one stepson, Robert Gifford, Wallace; 22 stepgrandchildren; 23 stepgreat-grandchildren; 18 stepgreat-great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; several great-nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by two stepsons, Bernard and Everett Gifford.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, having been preceded by five sisters and six brothers.
Mrs. Gifford attended the Wallace Pentecost Church of God.
Friends will be received at the Harmer Funeral Home, Shinnston, 7-9 p.m. today, where funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. Joseph Shipley officiating. Burial will follow in the IOFF cemetery, Brown.

Velma Godfrey
BUCKHANNON -- Velma Godfrey, 69, of Adrian, died Monday, July 26, 1999, in St. Joseph's Hospital.
She was born Jan. 8, 1930, in Buckhannon, a daughter of Stacie Tenney Smith, Buckhannon and the late Harvey Lowe Smith.
She is survived by her husband, Arley Lane Godfrey.
Also surviving three children, Arley Junior Godfrey, Buckhannon, Velma Sue Roby, Adrian and Randall Lowe Godfrey, Dallas, Texas.; four grandchildren, Melinda Eddy, Linda Gum, Shelby Godfrey and Darrius Godfrey, all of Buckhannon; two great-grandchildren; two stepchildren, Hilda Tenney, Buckhannon and Bill Godfrey, Bryan, Texas.; four stepgrandchildren; two brothers, Denzil Smith, Buckhannon, and Doyle Smith, Rootstown, Ohio; two sisters, Sada Gould, Buckhannon and Vada Ralston, Rootstown.
She was also preceded in death by one granddaughter and one brother.
Mrs. Godfrey was a homemaker. She was a member of Gould Christian Church.
