James H. Hurst
PENNSBORO -- James Howard Hurst, 76, of Route 2, Pennsboro, died July 29, 1999, in the St. Joseph's Hospital in Parkersburg.
He was born March 19, 1921, in Mole Hill, a son of the late Cecil and Mildred Hickman Hurst.
Surviving are five sons, Ronald G. Hurst and Richard D. Hurst, both of Pennsboro, James L. Hurst and David C. Hurst, both of Parkersburg, and Donald W. Hurst, Charleston; three daughters, Ruth Ann Nichols, Rogers, Ohio; Linda Griffin, Youngstown, Ohio, and Kathy Winn, Elkins; one grandson, Michael A. Richards, Greenwood; three brothers, Calvin D. Hurst, Leavittsburg, Ohio, Harold J. Hurst, Warren, Ohio, and Richard A. Hurst, Parkersburg; six sisters, Janice L. Hurst, with whom he resided; Carol S. Wells, Gladys A. Jackson, all of Pennsboro, Virginia K. Gilchrist, Girard, Ohio, Mary Edith Swartzfager, Oil City, Pa., and Karen E. Hernandez, Niles, Ohio; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
Mr. Hurst retired as a self-employed truck driver and a heavy equipment operator.
He was a veteran of World War, II having served with the 634th Special Service Platoon.
Mr. Hurst attended the Pike Church of Christ.
After his retirement, he enjoyed gardening and spending time with his nieces and nephews.

Earl F. Keener
GRAFTON -- Earl F. "Shotgun" Keener, 86, of Route 1, Brownlow Park Community, died Thursday, July 29, 1999, at his residence.
He was born Oct. 3, 1912, in Grafton, a son of the late Robert and Alice Keener.
His wife of 60 years, Elizabeth G. "Libby" Lucas Keener, preceded him in death on May 13, 1998.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles R. and Karen J. Keener, Grafton, and Terring L. and Margaret Ann Keener, Mt. Airy, Md.; five grandchildren and their spouses, Bryan R. and Martha Jo Keener, King George, Va., Charles L. and Brandy Keener, Belle Vernon, Pa., Terri Ann and Michael Rego and Eric Todd Keener, all of Mt. Airy, and John Patrick and Renee Keener, Walkersville, Md.; two sisters, Neva Gay Kressly, Bethlehem, Pa., and Leona Stansberry, Zanesville, Ohio; and seven great-grandchildren.
Mr. Keener had retired from the B&O Railroad Company with 30 years of service where he worked as a conductor.
He was the former club manager at the Tygart Lake Country Club in Knottsville.
Mr. Keener was one of the founders of the Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball Leagues of Taylor County.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Grafton and a 55-year member of the B.P.O.E. Grafton Lodge No. 308.

Rosalie E. Loretta
Rosalie E. Loretta, 77, of 2310 Gould Ave., Clarksburg, died at 7:40 p.m. Thursday, July 29, 1999, in the Clarksburg Continuous Care Center.
She was born Jan. 13, 1922, in Clarksburg, a daughter of the late Manuel and Pauline Cross Duarte.
Her husband, Anthony "Babe" Loretta, preceded her in death in 1969.
Surviving are one son, Richard Laurie, New York, N.Y.; two daughters, Deborah Quickle and Kimberly Moneypenny, both of Clarksburg; one brother, John R. Duarte, Clarksburg; one sister, Barbara Duarte Stewart, Clarksburg; five grandchildren, Brian Batcheller, Melissa Lewis, Adam Post, Vanessa Loffler and Toni Rose Moneypenny; two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by one sister, Marguerite Duarte.
Mrs. Loretta was a member of the St. James Catholic Church.
She had worked as a Harrison County election poll clerk and had been active in civic organizations.
Mrs. Loretta was employed at the Adamston Flat Glass Company, the City of Shinnston, retired from Chesterfield Energy, and later worked in the office of Magistrate Trupo.
Friends will be received at the Davis-Weaver Funeral Home, 329 E. Main St., Clarksburg, from 2-9 p.m. Sunday. Catholic Burial Rites will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Father Robert A. Perriello presiding. Interment will follow in the Holy Cross cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to North Central West Virginia Chapter, Alzheimers Association, P.O. Box 4543, Star City, WV 26504-4543.

Teresa M. Spatafore
Teresa M. Mazza Spatafore, 93, of Edgewood Addition, Clarksburg, died Friday, July 30, 1999.
She was born Aug. 4, 1905, in Gassaway.
Her husband, Joe F. Spatafore, preceded her in death in 1984.
Surviving are three children, nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, one sister and two brothers.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete.
Davis-Weaver Funeral Home, 329 E. Main St., Clarksburg, is in charge of the arrangements.

Mary L. Sweet
PENNSBORO -- Mary Lou Sweet, 65, of Harrisville, died Friday, July 30, 1999, at her residence.
She was born Oct. 20, 1933, in Washburn, a daughter of the late Harley W. and Hazel Ruth Jones Hardbarger.
Her husband, Benjamin Sweet, survives.
Also surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Donald and Mary Bunner, Millwood, Ohio, and David Leroy and Debbie Sweet, Willow Springs, Ohio; one daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Richard Fox, Apex, N.C.; two brothers, Denton Vincent, Harrisville, and Ralph Hardbarger, Auburn; four sisters, Betty Prunty and Patsy Hodge, Washburn, Emogene Stansberry, Burnt House, and Glenda Tanzey, Harrisville; two brothers-in-law, Richard and Samuel Sweet; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by one brother, Dennis Hardbarger.
Mrs. Sweet was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Harrisville Post 3554, and an active member of the First Apostolic Church in Harrisville.

Louis J. Woods, D.D.S.
SHINNSTON -- Dr. Louis John "Lou Wojcihovski" Woods, D.D.S., 85, of Vero Beach, Fla., formerly of Weston and Maryland, died at 4:45 p.m. Thursday, July 29, 1999, in the Palm Garden Nursing Home.
He was born Jan. 16, 1914, in Marion, Ill., a son of the late Alois and Christine Aschmen Wojcihovski.
Twice married, his first wife, Jean Woods, preceded him in death; and his second wife, Geneva Nester Woods, whom he married on May 28, 1973, survives.
Also surviving are one sister-in-law, Marjorie "Marge" Woods, Baltimore, Md.; two nephews and two nieces.
He was also preceded in death by one brother, Victor Woods.
Dr. Woods was a 1937 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine where he played football for the Pitt Panthers and played in the 1933 Rose Bowl.
He practiced dentistry in Weston and College Park, Md.
Dr. Woods was a World War II veteran, having served with the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Quincy. This ship sailed President Roosevelt to Malta to meet with Churchill and Stalin at the end of World War II.
He was Catholic.
Friends may call at the St. Ann's Catholic Church, Shinnston from 10-11 a.m. Monday. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at the church with the Rev. Father Karl Wohinc as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens in Morgantown.
Dorsey Funeral Home, Shinnston, is in charge of the arrangements.

Florence Brake
BUCKHANNON -- Florence Brake, 89, of Buckhannon died Sunday, June 27, 1999, at Holbrook Nursing Home.
She was born March 27, 1910, in Upshur County, a daughter of the late Alf Brake and Zeffie Smith Brake.
Surviving are several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Virgie Brake and Pearl Morrison, and one brother, Frank Brake.
Mrs. Brake was Methodist.

Hartsel W. Montgomery
BUCKHANNON -- Hartsel W. Montgomery, 89, of Route 2, Box 208, Buckhannon, died at 5:15 a.m. Monday, June 28, 1999, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Buckhannon.
He was born Oct. 18, 1909, in Mabie, a son of the late Kenneth Montgomery and Martha Smith Montgomery.
His wife, Naomi T. Fox Montgomery, whom he married Dec. 5, 1932, survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Mary Lamb and Mrs. Bob (Frances) Mills, both of Buckhannon; one son and daughter-in-law, David and Donatienne Montgomery, Linden; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Morris, Harold, Earl and Charles Montgomery; two sisters, Icie Pascale and Ethel White; one grandchild, and four great-grandchildren.
Mr. Montgomery retired from Moore Bus Service. He was a member of Nays Chapel United Methodist Church and I.O.O.F. Middle Fork Lodge No. 248.

Albert L. Rutherford
FAIRMONT -- Albert Leonard "Lennie" Rutherford, 52, of Clarksburg died Saturday, June 26, 1999, at his home.
He was born May 16, 1947, in Marion County, a son of Albert and Mildred Langford Rutherford, both of Grand Junction, Colo.
Surviving are one son, Shane Allyn Rutherford, Astor, Fla.; two daughters, Marjorie Marie Dean, Astor, and Kathryn Lynette Utterback, Noblesville, Ind.; one brother, Henry Allyn Rutherford, Portland, Ore.; one sister, Gloria Diane Corley, Fairmont, and six grandchildren, Kassandra Forquer, Brook Lynn Rutherford, Tharron Skylor Forquer, Brandon Alexander Forquer, Austin Chase Dean and Shane Allyn Rutherford II.
He was also preceded in death by one brother, Lawson Eugene Rutherford.
Mr. Rutherford was a self-employed general contractor. He was highly decorated while serving in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam, was a member of the Vietnam Memorial Fund and was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Vincent cemetery on Vinegar Hill in Fairmont, with the Rev. Terry Alverez officiating. Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont, is in charge of arrangements.

Paul R. Siders Jr.
Paul Ray Siders Jr., 20, of Route 6, Box 526, Sun Valley, died Sunday, June 27, 1999, in Doddridge County following an automobile accident.
He was born in Clarksburg on Jan. 24, 1979, a son of Paul Ray Siders Sr., Sun Valley, and Dolly Jean Allen, Route 2, Box 149, Bridgeport.
Also surviving are one brother, Stuart Allen Siders, U.S. Navy, Great Lakes, Ill.; one sister, Mrs. Keith (Lahoma Jean Siders) Cropp, Wilsonburg; one half sister, Tiffany Nicole Siders, Sun Valley; his paternal grandfather, Lester Wolford Siders; one niece, Chiquita Cropp, and several aunts and uncles.
Mr. Siders was a member of the West Virginia Army National Guard. He was employed at Pratt & Whitney as an aircraft assembler and attended Boothsville Baptist Church.
Friends may call at Davis-Weaver Funeral Home, 329 East Main St., Clarksburg, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Pastor Orville Wright officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Masonic cemetery.

Jesse O. Smallridge
BUCKHANNON -- Jesse Overton Smallridge, 69, of HC 71, Box 167, Ellamore, died Sunday, June 27, 1999, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Buckhannon.
He was born Feb. 21, 1930, in French Creek, a son of the late John Smallridge and Ruth Riggleman Smallridge.
He was twice married, first to Marion Gomes, who survives in Lafayette, Ala., and later to Betty Zickefoose Smallridge, who preceded him in death.
Surviving are three daughters, Peggy Forter and Charlotte Phillips, both of Youngstown, Ohio, and Rita Deas, Cusseta, Ala.; two sons, Victor Smallridge, Tallahassee, Ala., and Jeff Smallridge, Eufaula, Ala.; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three sisters, Lora Campbell, French Creek, Opal Heaster, Weston, and Mae Pratt, Buckhannon; one brother, Gene Smallridge, Buckhannon; two stepsons, Tim and Mike Zickefoose, both of Ohio; two stepdaughters, Michelle Westfall, Ohio, and Debra Zickefoose, and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by seven brothers and two sisters.
Mr. Smallridge was a member of Kanawha Run United Methodist Church.
