Carl J. Smouse
PHILIPPI -- Carl Junior Smouse, 51, of Baltimore, Md., died Thursday, June 24, 1999, of injuries received on the job in Upper Marlboro, Md.
He was born Jan. 17, 1948, in Philippi, a son of Mary Jane Parsons Smouse, who survives in Philippi, and the late Elmer Watson Smouse.
Surviving are one stepson, Charles Anderson, Baltimore; two stepdaughters, Linda Anderson, Baltimore, and Helen Anderson, Ohio; three brothers, David Lee Smouse, Wisconsin, and David Garfield Weese and Donald Weese, both of Elyria, Ohio; eight sisters, Dorothy J. Humphries, Delaware, Mary Rose Funk and Sue Meng, both of Grafton, Judy Califf, Darlene Barker and Kathy Newman, all of Philippi, and Shalene Smouse and Debbie Jean Smouse, both of Wisconsin, and four stepgrandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by one sister, Brenda Kay Weese.
Mr. Smouse was employed as an equipment operator by Maryland Environmental Services.

Frankie M. Wilkerson
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Frankie Mae Fultz Wilkerson, 75, of Indianapolis died Monday, June 28, 1999, at her home.
She was born May 12, 1924, in Salem, West Virginia.
Surviving are four children, Kenneth W. Wilkerson, Whiteland, Ind., and Dennis C. Wilkerson, Gloria J. Forrester and Joyce M. Pettigrew, all of Indianapolis; eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Kermit and Edward Fultz, and two sisters, Goldie Brown and Glitis Davis.
Mrs. Wilkerson was head cook at the Iron Skillet Restaurant in Indianapolis for 28 years, retiring in 1983.

Jacob L. Yoho
BRIDGEPORT -- Jacob L. Yoho, 19, of Greensburg, Pa., died Monday, June 28, 1999, as a result of injuries suffered in an automobile accident.
He was born July 14, 1979, in Clarksburg, a son of Mendel and Genevieve Yoho, who survive in Bridgeport.
Also surviving are three sisters, Meg Yoho, Morgantown, and Sarah and Joanna Yoho, Bridgeport.
He graduated from Kiski School in Saltsburg, Pa., and was working at Rizzo's Restaurant in Crabtree, Pa. He attended Bridgeport United Methodist Church.
Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Ave., Bridgeport, from 7-9 p.m. today and 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Interment will follow in the Ellenboro Masonic cemetery.

Martha B. Baldwin
OXFORD, Pa. -- Martha B. Palmer Baldwin, 94, of 7 Locust St., Oxford, formerly of Cochranville, Pa., and Delaware County, Pa., died Thursday, Oct. 21, 1999, at Ware Presbyterian Village, Oxford.
She was born in Lurgan, Pa., the daughter of the late Christian H. and Carrie Reese Bert.
Twice married, her first husband, T. Earle Palmer, preceded her in death in 1954; and her second husband, J. Hanover Baldwin, also preceded her in death in 1993.
Surviving are two daughters, Jane P. Cannoy, Oxford, and Elizabeth (Betsy) P. Bowling, Bridgeport; one stepdaughter, June Fitzherbert, Vancouver, Wash.; three stepsons, James H. Baldwin, Columbus, Ohio, A. Wayne Baldwin, Lander, Wyo., and R. Lowell Baldwin, Turlock, Calif.; one brother, Paul C. Bert, Modesto, Calif.; 23 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Linda P. Skibicki.
Mrs. Baldwin taught elementary school for 341/2 years, retiring in 1970, and she also taught in Cochranville, Oxford and Octorara school districts, as well as others.
She was past secretary and treasurer of the Lower Oxford Township.
Mrs. Baldwin was past member and treasurer of the Research Club, Oxford, past chaplain and secretary of the Fernwood Grange, Daleville, Pa., a member of the Russellville Grange, Russellville, past president of the Parent Teachers Association in the 1950s of the elementary school in Delaware County, and a member and past member of the Board of Deacons of the Faggs Manor Presbyterian Church, Cochranville.
She was the Grange National Grand Crocheting Champion for crocheting a bedspread in 1988.
Mrs. Baldwin enjoyed travel, gardening, bridge and crocheting.
She was a 1923 graduate of the Shippensburg State Normal School.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Faggs Manor Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 505 Street Rd., Cochranville, PA 19330.
Edward L. Collins Funeral Home Inc., Oxford, is in charge of the arrangements.

Linda Rice
MARTINSBURG -- Linda Watkins Rice, 66, of Martinsburg, died Thursday, Oct. 21, 1999, at her residence.
She was born Jan. 19, 1933, in Fairmont, a daughter of the late Harry E. and Margaret Lehman Watkins.
Her husband, Lacy I. Rice Jr., survives.
Surviving are two sons and daughter-in-law, Lacy I. Rice III, Bethesda, Md., and William Thorn and Karen M. Rice, Charleston; one daughter and son-in-law, Anne W. and Theodore M. Pierce, Walnut Creek, Calif.; two grandchildren, Oliver Watkins Pierce and Martin Field Pierce; and one sister, Sarah W. Point, Grossbottwar, Germany.
Mrs. Rice was a former "First Lady" of Martinsburg, director of Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center, former director and founder of the Boarman Arts Center, founding director of Contemporary American Theatre Festival, first female Senior Warden of Trinity Episcopal Church, and a former school teacher at Carlynn Springs Elementary School, Arlington, Va.
She was a member of the Advisory Board of Shepherd College and a long time member of the Olde Berkeley Garden Club, having received many awards.
Mrs. Rice was involved in numerous charitable, religious and social activities and organizations.
She was a graduate of Stephens College and Duke University.
Mrs. Rice had been a resident of Martinsburg for 42 years.
The family suggests contributions be made to Trinity Episcopal Church, Boarman Arts Center and the Contemporary American Theatre Festival.
Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg, is in charge of the arrangements.

Noel L. Ritchie
Noel Lee Ritchie, 67, of 1420 Pearlman Ave., Clarksburg, died at 4 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, 1999, at Heartland of Clarksburg Nursing Home, Clarksburg, following an extended illness.
He was born Aug. 22, 1932, in Clarksburg, a son of the late Rufus K. and Eula Mae Johnson Ritchie.
His wife, Marjorie Frame Ritchie, whom he married on Nov. 7, 1975, survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Judith Fleischer, New Smyrna Beach, Fla., Cathy Ritchie, Morgantown, and Sharon K. Haynes, Clarksburg; one son, Steven Ritchie, Tampa, Fla.; one stepson, Allen B. Hudkins, Clarksburg; one sister, Lois Orrahood, Spring Valley, Calif.; one brother, Jim Ritchie, Perrysburg, Ohio; and 10 grandchildren.
Mr. Ritchie attended the Clarksburg Baptist Church.
He retired in 1975 as a lieutenant of the Clarksburg Fire Department.
He also retired from the West Virginia National Guard as master sergeant first class E-7 of the Clarksburg Unit.
Mr. Ritchie owned and operated his own business, Discount Specialty Company.
He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Post No. 52, Clarksburg, and the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks Post No. 482, Clarksburg.
A funeral service will be held at noon today at Davis-Weaver Funeral Home, 320 East Main St., Clarksburg, with Pastor Kurt Busiek presiding. Interment will follow in the Floral Hills Memorial Gardens cemetery.

Mabel R. Bowyer
BUCKHANNON -- Mabel R. Bowyer, 85, of Route 1, Crawford, died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 1999, at her residence.
She was born May 10, 1914, in Lewis County, a daughter of the late William Jackson and Laura Mae Cooper Smith.
Her husband, William Ralph Bowyer, whom she married on Oct. 28, 1933, preceded her in death on April 2, 1967.
Surviving are two sons and daughter-in-law, William Hartzel and Darlene Bowyer and Drexell Ralph Bowyer, all of Route 1, Crawford; three daughters and sons-in-law, Ada Lavanghn and Meredith Depoy, Allen, Ky., Helen Jane and Joe Metzgar, Route 1, Crawford, and Maxine Louise and Mike Metzner, Helvetia; nine grandchildren, Edwin Bowyer, Robert Bowyer, Evelyn Riffle, Yvette Stephens, Michelle Smith, Blaine Depoy, Janice Collins, William Metzgar and Jennifer Metzgar; two brothers, Thomas Smith, Walkersville, and Ralph Smith, Whitesville; three sisters, Mattie Belle Smith, Weston, Irena Harper, Baltimore, Md., and Gladys Milliken, Edgewater, Fla.; five great grandchildren, five stepgreat-grandchildren and one stepgreat-great-grandchild.
She was also preceded in death by one great-grandchild, Nathan Bowyer; two brothers, Howard Smith and Fred Smith; and one sister, Icie Kleine.
Mrs. Bowyer was a homemaker.

Viola M. Huffman
BUCKHANNON -- Viola Madeline Huffman, 77, of 10 Nona St., Buckhannon, died at 10:10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21, 1999, at Davis Memorial Hospital.
She was born Feb. 8, 1922, in Sago, a daughter of the late Elbert Lee and Elizabeth Dale Goss Huffman.
Surviving are one sister, Nellie Huffman Bennett, Buckhannon; two half sisters, Bonita Nantz, Sago, and Berta Thompson, Buckhannon; six half brothers, Bailey Huffman, Beverly, Berlin Huffman and Bobby Huffman, both of Buckhannon, and Benjamin Huffman, Bernard Huffman and Brian Huffman, all of Indian Camp; eight nephews, five nieces, 11 great-nieces and nephews, several great-grand-nieces and nephews.
Miss Huffman was a caregiver. She was a member of the Indian Camp Church and the Holbrooks Auxiliary, Womenís Christian Temperance Union.

Cora Elizabeth Matheny
Cora Elizabeth Matheny, 102, of Route 4, Box 202, Salem, died at 3:20 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22, 1999, at Heartland of Clarksburg following a brief illness.
She was born June 26, 1897, in Doddridge County, a daughter of the late John T. and Lyda E. Jones Seders.
Her husband, Hiriam Lincoln Matheny, preceded her in death in 1964.
Surviving are one son, Ralph Matheny, Medway, Ohio; two grandchildren, Teddy Dennison, Wolf Summit, and David Matheny, Fairborn, Ohio; one great-granddaughter, Tamberly Lee Dennison; and a friend, Caroline Patrick.
She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Wilma Davis; five sisters and five brothers.
Mrs. Matheny was a member of the Wesleyan Methodist Church. She was a homemaker.
Friends will be received at the Davis-Weaver Funeral Home, 329 East Main St., Clarksburg, from 6-9 p.m. today. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Ray Satterfield presiding. Interment will follow in the Coplin cemetery.

Winnifred G. McIntyre
Winnifred Garrett McIntyre, 86, of 115 Edgewood Ave., Clarksburg, died at 4:27 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22, 1999, at her residence following an extended illness.
She was born July 11, 1913, in Clarksburg, a daughter of the late Anthony Evans and Frieda Fay Morrison Garrett.
Her husband, John Bryan McIntyre, whom she married on Feb. 6, 1937, preceded her in death on May 31, 1997.
Surviving are one sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn Garrett and Donald M. Barnhart Sr., Tipp City, Ohio; one nephew and his wife, Donald M. and Debby Barnhart Jr., Worthington, Ohio; two nieces, Florence Ann Wilcox, Coventry, La., and Bertha Morris, Carey, N.C.; five additional nephews, Lt. Col. (U.S. Marine Corps Retired) James Barr, Scottsdale, Ariz., Bryan McIntyre, Raleigh, N.C., John Barr, Los Angeles, Calif., Michael McIntyre, Powell, Ohio, and Orville Gump, Hilton, N.Y.; and one great-niece, Lauren Barnhart, Worthington.
Mrs. McIntyre was a graduate of West Virginia University. She retired in 1974 after 37 years of service as a teacher for the Harrison County Board of Education in the local Clarksburg area, including Victory and Liberty high schools.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Clarksburg, and a former member of the Hepzibah Baptist Church.
Friends will be received at the Davis-Weaver Funeral Home, 329 E. Main St., Clarksburg, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Friday. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Dr. Eric M. Faust conducting the service. Interment will follow in the Greenlawn Masonic cemetery.

Gerald L. Posten
PHILIPPI -- Gerald L. Posten, 68, of East Rochester, Ohio, formerly of Philippi, died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 1999, at United Hospital Center, Clarksburg, following a brief illness.
He was born June 23, 1931, in Philippi, a son of Corda Zeta Simpson Posten, Chestnut Street, Philippi, and the late Floyd Odbert Posten.
Also surviving are two daughters, Rebecca Ellen Jones, Triangle, Va., and Debra Kay Yakubik, Belington; one son, Odis Posten, Triangle; one sister, Mrs. Jack (Jean Sue) Rosier, Belington; and seven grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by one son, William Floyd Posten and one sister, Rebecca Ann Haddix.
Mr. Posten was a retired truck driver.
