Bonnie Sue Fuller Irwin 10-18-2008

Bonnie Sue Fuller Irwin, 66, of South Charleston died October 18, 2008 at CAMC Memorial Hospital, Charleston.

Bonnie was a member of Bible Center Church, Charleston. She was a former longtime employee of Thomas Memorial Hospital, and was a 1959 graduate of South Charleston High School.

She was preceded in death by her father, John Paul Fuller; brother, John Michael Fuller; grandparents, Grant and Peggy Fuller; aunt, Grethel Broyles.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law; Jay G. and Teresa Irwin of Knoxville, TN; Robert Stephen and Charell Irwin of South Charleston. Mother, Audrey Fuller Bowen of South Charleston; sister, Patty Fuller Weitzel of Hometown. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Philip and Mindy Irwin, Kasie Irwin, Sebastian Lynn, Caleb Irwin, David Irwin; and her aunt Maycel Hammock.

A service to honor the life of Bonnie will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday October 23, at Snodgrass Funeral Home, South Charleston. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston. Family and friends will visit from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.

J.L. "Jess" Jessup Jr.

J.L. "Jess" Jessup Jr., 79, of South Charleston passed away Wednesday, October 29, 2008, at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston.

Jess was a 1948 graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School and retired from Union Carbide with 34 years of service. He was a United States Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War and an avid Ham Radio Operator #N8LFM.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Bessie Boyd. Jess is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Bernice K. Jessup; son, Ted Jessup of South Charleston; daughters, Sharon Parsons of Culloden, Lisa Facemyer of Charleston; stepson, Ivan Fraser of Nashville, Tenn.; very special stepdaughter, Kimberly Huddson of St. Albans; eight grandchildren ; and his faithful canine companion, Yorkie. A service to honor the life of J.L. "Jess" Jessup will be held at 2pm Saturday, November 1, at Floral Hills Garden of Memories, Sissonville, with Chaplain Pete Thompson officiating. Family and friends will visit one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice Care, 1001 Kenawha Dr., Charleston, WV 25311.

Snodgrass Funeral Home, South Charleston, is handling the arrangements.

Charles Edward Jones 9-9-2008

Charles Edward Jones, 80, of Charleston passed away Tuesday, September 9, 2008, in Saint Francis Hospital, following a long courageous battle with illnesses.

He was born on November 21, 1927, and was the son of the late Charles Alfred and Violet Pearl Jones, and was also preceded in death by his sister, Carolyn Wells of Orlando, Florida. He was a life long resident of Charleston.

He was a graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School and of West Virginia University with a degree in education and engineering.

He served his country faithfully in the United States Army as a second Lieutenant, and also as an airplane pilot. He is also a United States Honor Navy veteran.

He worked for the West Virginia Division of Highways, and also Goodrich Gulf in Institute. He was a member of Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church of Charleston, a wonderful father, and grandfather.

Charles is survived by his loving wife, of 57 years, Betty Jane Perdue Jones, one daughter, Sharon Lynn Casto.

Five grandchildren: Arden Casto and wife Michelle with two great grandchildren, Asher Lee Casto and Hayden Jones Casto, Clint Casto of Charleston; Bruce Casto of Charleston; Justin Casto of Charleston; and Zachary Casto, of Charleston. He is also survived by his one brother, Phillip Ray and wife Wilma Jones and children.

My dad will be greatly missed by his family. He was a man of many admirable traits. His strengths and perseverance stand as an example to all who knew him.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. Steven Zeken and Dr. Rene Sullesta and the staff of Saint Francis Hospital for their kindness and support.

A service to Honor the life of Charles Jones will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday September 11, at Snodgrass Funeral Home with Rev. and good friend David Crowder officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston.

Family and friends will visit two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.

Elizabeth Black King 9-22-2008

Elizabeth Black King, 84, of South Charleston departed this life September 22, 2008 at Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston.

Elizabeth was a graduate of West Virginia University. She was a former Kanawha County Schools’ English Teacher. She was a member of the West Virginia Dental Auxiliary and served on the Kanawha Valley Foundation’s scholarship committee.

Libby, or Dede as she was known to her children, was an ultimate caretaker, giving her time, love and energy to provide for her mother, brother, her husband and above all, to her children and grandchildren. Her family’s welfare was her life’s consuming passion and she will be missed tremendously.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Randolph D. and Lenida Rupert Black, and her two brothers, John Rupert Black, and James Black.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Dr. Samuel L. King; children, Dr. Samuel L. King II, and Mary Jane Hanson of Charleston; Dr. Kristen L. King and Dr. Rick E. Millen of Huntington; Kevin and Kristi King of Richmond, VA; and Susan and Peter Williams of Kauai, Hawaii. Grandchildren, Amy R. King, Ashley K. and Brent J. Burton, Samuel L. King III, John Hanson, Wesley Hanson, Emily K. Millen, Kelley M. Millen, Cameron B. King and John Carter King.

A service to honor the life of Elizabeth will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday September 25, 2008 at St. Marks United Methodist Church, Charleston. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston. Family and friends will visit from 6 to 7:30 PM Wednesday at Snodgrass Funeral Home, South Charleston.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to St. Marks United Methodist Church, 900 Washington Street. E., Charleston, WV 25301.

Brenda Jean Koehn 8-31-2008

Brenda Jean Carney Koehn, 65 of Hurricane, WV passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, August 31, 2008 surrounded by loved ones after a short illness.

Born October 8, 1942 in Charleston, WV she was the daughter of the late Eugene H. Carney of Charleston and the late Thalia V. Ice Carney of Hurricane, WV.

She attended Cross Lanes Baptist Church. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, John Floyd Koehn. She is also survived by her daughters, Kimberli Marie Koehn Anderson and son-in-law, James Carter of Hurricane, and Lori Beth Pinson and son-in-law, the late Larry Pinson of Cross Lanes. Brenda is also survived by her five sisters and their husbands; Anita and Raymond Gandy of Hurricane, Dianne and Bob Pedley of Hurricane, Karen and Roy Spradling of Charleston, Carol and Billy Brown of Loveland, CO, and Debbie and Dave Sweeney of Hurricane.

Brenda devoted a large portion of her life to her five grandchildren, Nathan Kennedy, Ciara Anderson, and Marissa Carter of Hurricane, WV and Dustin and Cassie Pinson of Cross Lanes, WV.

She is also survived by her mother-in-law, Margaret Koehn of Hurricane, WV, and her sisters-in law and their husbands; Susie and Peter Vaslow of Maryland and Kay and Gary Tabb of Kentucky.

Her many nieces, nephews, and family members will always remember her giving and loving nature, the many beach vacations together and her pool parties and holiday gatherings. She was often described as energetic, positive, a role model, self-sacrificing, and having a generous heart and zest for life.

Brenda greatly influenced and impacted the lives of not only her family, but of many children and young adults in her career as a school teacher of 37 years. She was known and recognized for her dedication and passion for her students. Brenda set the standards with her exemplary leadership which paved the way for her fellow peers. She was a 1960 graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School and may be best remembered by her many friends as a majorette in the band. She then attended Marshall University for three years and graduated from West Virginia State University with a degree in education.

Brenda taught in Wilmington, NC, and also in the Kanawha County School system at Horace Mann Junior High, Sissonville High School, and currently was the head of the English Department and the International Baccalaureate Spanish program at South Charleston High School. She will be forever missed by her family, friends, and all of the hearts she has touched in her lifetime.

A celebration of Brenda’s life will be held at 4:00 PM Friday September 5, 2008 at Snodgrass Funeral Home, South Charleston with Pastor Seth Polk officiating. Family and friends will visit from 6 to 8 PM Thursday at the funeral home.

William Henry Lewis 9-29-2008

Mr. William Henry Lewis, 82, died September 29, 2008 at his residence.

He was born in Charleston, WV, and lived in Vero Beach, FL for the last 20 years.

He was the Administrative Manager of Union Carbide's Computer Center, Charleston, WV. He served in the US Army during World War II. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Vero Beach, FL and St. Marks United Methodist Church, Charleston. He earned his MBA in accounting from Ohio State University in 1957.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Helen Lewis of Vero Beach, FL and sister, Margaret Dudley of Charleston, WV.

A graveside service to honor the life of William Henry Lewis will be held at 11:00 AM Monday October 6, 2008 at Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston with Rev. Bob Underwood officiating. Family and friends will visit from 2-5 pm on Sunday October 5, 2008 at Snodgrass Funeral Home, South Charleston.

Carl Eugene Little 8-9-2008

Carl Eugene Little died August 9, 2008. He was born May 10, 1927 in Littleton, Wetzel County, WV. He was the son of Arles Talkington Little and Nancy Elizabeth Furbee Little. He was preceded in death by his brother Lloyd Luther Little.

He graduated from Salem, WV High School and served two years in the US Army at the end of World War II.

He held a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from West Virginia University. He was a graduate of the Stonier Graduate School of Banking at Rutgers University, The Consumer Banking School at the University of Virginia and did graduate work at Dartmouth College. He held a Graduate Certificate from The American Institute of Banking and served as past President of the Charleston Chapter of the AIB. He was past President of the Consumer Credit Divison of the WV Bankers Association.

He retired as Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of One Valley Bank (now BB&T) with 40 years of service and served an additional 10 years on the Board of Directors. During his career he organized, built and served as President of One Valley Banks in Kanawha City, Cross Lanes and Hurricane before the change in banking laws permitted branch banking.

He served as past Adjutant and Vice Commander of Post 20 of the American Legion. He also served on the Executive Committee of the Buckskin Council, Boy Scouts of America.

He enjoyed family vacations, golf and after retirement traveling the world with his wife. He will always be remembered for his generous, giving nature and his love of family and fairness.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Marilyn Walker Little. Daughter Carla and her husband Carl Glover of Cedar Grove, WV; daughter Debbie and her husband Jeff Varney of Hampton, VA; son Ron Little of Taylorville, IL; daughter Barbara Little of Dunbar, WV; son Darin Little of San Francisco, CA; Grandchildren, David, Tara, Jordan, Alex, Chris, Jacob, and Aaron and great-grand daughter Savannah.

A service honoring the life of Carl Little will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2008, at Snodgrass Funeral Home in South Charleston. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park. Friends may call one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the funeral home.

In Lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to HospiceCARE, 1143 Dunbar Ave., Dunbar, WV 25064-3199.
