Charles Everett Miller, Jr. 9-2-2008

Charles Everett Miller, Jr. 84 of Gallopolis, OH, formerly of South Charleston died September 2, 2008 at Arbors of Gallopolis after a long illness.

Charlie was a World War II veteran serving in General George Patton’s Third Army.

He was a machine gun sergeant, surviving many battles including the historic Battle of the Bulge.

He received a Purple Heart and Bronze Star for bravery.

After his military service he returned home to his wife and new baby and began a long career as a foreman at FMC Corporation.

He was the Commander of the World War II 87th Infantry 50th anniversary reunion.

Charlie was the founder of Little Creek Park in South Charleston and served on the building Committee for Lakewood Church of God.

He was a member of South Charleston Lodge #168 AF & AM, Scottish Rite Bodies, and Beni Kedem Temple, Charleston.

His world flags that were donated to Bob Anderson line the South Charleston Memorial Ice Rink at Southridge.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles E. Miller, Sr., mother Orpha Miller, daughter, Brenda Arlden, and son, Charles E. Miller, III.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years Jean A. Miller, daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Carl Speck, sisters, Betty Gay Legg and Beaulah Smith, grandchildren, Melissa and Stan McDaniel, Tamra, Tucker, Curtis and Karen Wilson.

Eight great-grandchildren and one great great granddaughter.

A service to honor the life of Charles E. Miller, Jr. will be held at 1:00 PM Friday September 5, 2008 at Snodgrass Funeral Home, South Charleston with Rev. Gary Griffith officiating.

Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston.

Family and friends will visit from 11:00 am until service time Friday at the funeral home.

Peggy Ann Bates Moore 8-23-2008

Peggy Ann Bates Moore, 71 of Dunbar, formally of Virginia Beach, passed away Saturday, August 23, 2008 at CAMC Memorial Hospital, Charleston after a courageous battle with cancer.

Peggy graduated in the class of 1955 from South Charleston, she was a legal secretary for over 30 years, working most of that for the law firm of Gus Spanoulis, former member of the South Charlston Women’s Club, and an avid Bowler.

She was preceded in death by her father, Paul Bates; and her husband, Stanley Moore.

She is survived by her sons, Jeffrey Moore and his wife Donna of Houston, TX; Gregory Moore and companion Trish of Manteo, NC; Austin Moore and wife Connie of Peoria, IL; grandchild, Melissa McIntyre and husband Brian of Spring Hill, TN; 2 step grandchildren; Mother, Geneva Bates of South Charleston; mother-in-law, Ruth Moore of Charleston; brother-in-law, H.D. Moore and wife Evelyn of Charleston; 1 uncle, 2 aunts, 1 niece, several nephews, cousins, her caregiver, Anita Werhmann; and her faithful friend Holly, her Yorkshire Terrier.

Friends may call Tuesday August 26, form 4 to 6 PM at Snodgrass Funeral Home, South Charleston, where an informal service to honor Peggy’s life will be held at 5:00.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the American Cancer Society.

Judy Charles Robinson 10-11-2008

Judy Charles Robinson was born on January 10, 1949, at Pikeville, Kentucky to William Milton Sullivan Charles and Sally Nash McGlothlin Charles.

Judy was a 1967 graduate of Gilbert High School, Gilbert, West Virginia.

She also earned a degree from St. Mary’s Hospital at Huntington, West Virginia, in the school for medical laboratory technicians.

She started her career at Charleston Memorial Hospital, later CAMC, in 1970.

She was a laboratory section supervisor until 2005, when she retired due to illness.

She left behind many cherished patients, employees and friends.

She was the youngest of six children, two sisters, Mildred Charles Gilliam and Helen Charles Pennington, and three brothers, Jess Charles, deceased, Gallie Charles and Paul Charles.

Judy was married to William “Butch” Robinson on May 16, 1970 in South Charleston, West Virginia.

She is survived by her husband and three children, Tanya Leigh Robinson, and twin sons, Bill Robinson, Will Robinson and his wife, Christy Buckalew Robinson and one cherished granddaughter, Sophia Elizabeth Robinson.

She was a loving wife, mother, sister and friend. She attended Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.

A service to honor the life of Judy C. Robinson will be held at 2:30pm, at Snodgrass Funeral Home, South Charleston with the Reverend Lee Swor of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church officiating.

An entombment will be held at Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston.

Family and friends will visit from 1:00pm to 2:30pm Tuesday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Arc of the Three Rivers, 1412 Kanawha Blvd. West, Charleston, WV 25312 in memory of Judy Charles Robinson.

Donald L. Salamie 9-8-2008

Donald L. Salamie, 82 of Poca died September 8, 2008 at home after a long illness.

Don was a member of St. George Cathedral, Charleston.

He was former owner of Salamie’s in South Charleston and Salamie’s properties.

He was a 1944 graduate of South Charleston High School and a 1950 graduate of Morris Harvey College.

He was a member of American Legion Post 94, and Scarlet Oaks Country Club, Poca where he was an avid golfer.

Don also frequently traveled to Lexington, KY where he enjoyed horse racing at Keenland Park.

He was preceded in death by his parents,George and Sadie Skaff Salamie, and his twin brother Dale Salamie.

He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Bonnie Salamie. Sister, Juanita Salamie of Charleston; brother Dick Salamie of Charleston; step children, Bob Jones of Pahrump, NV; Mary Bradley of Charleston; and Clara McCrea of Jacksonville, FL.

Don is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

A service to honor the life of Donald Salamie will be held at 11:00 AM Friday September 12, 2008 at St. George Cathedral, Charleston with the Very Rev. Olof Scott officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston.

Family and friends will visit from 6 to 9 PM Thursday at Snodgrass Funeral Home, South Charleston, where a Trisagion service will be held at 8:30 pm.

Gerald "Jerry" Sigmon 11-28-2008

Gerald “Jerry” Lloyd Sigmon of Charleston, beloved husband, father, and brother, passed away early Friday morning, November 28, 2008.

During his final hours of struggle, his family surrounded him in love; he was 67 years old.

Jerry was born in Charleston on April 11, 1941 and lived his entire life in the Kanawha Valley.

Jerry was a self-made man who touched many lives.

He was the owner of Sigmon Appliance Repair of Spring Hill which was founded originally by his father, Rank Sigmon.

Jerry was also a member of the Charleston Moose Lodge from 1979 to the present time earning the highest degree of Pilgrim.

On July 11, 1999 he became a member of Hissom’s Tabernacle Church.

Second only to his family, Jerry’s greatest passion in life was the restoration of antique cars.

His collection included a custom built Gatsby, a ’37 Chevy Truck, a ’41 Cadillac, a ’57 Thunderbird, a ’76 Rollsroyce, a’ 77 Covette, and his pride and joy of all time, a 1937 Packard Hearse which will serve as his final ride in this life.

Jerry Sigmon was preceeded in death by his parents, Ransford “Rank” Sigmon and Edith Hilda Sigmon.

He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 24 years, Pam Teel Sigmon; son and daughter-in-law, Jerry Lee and Cindy Sigmon of Cross Lanes; daughter, Lisa Cheryl Tabor of Newton, WV; son, Troy Ratcliff of Charleston; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Bonnie Sigmon of Cincinnati, Ohio; sisters, Barbara Gardner of Orange City, Florida and Joyce Thompson of North Charleston; sister and brother-in-law, Vonda and Lee Roberts of St. Albans.

Jerry had six grandchildren, Sarah and Sam Sigmon, Max Runion, Haley and Kaleb Ratcliff, and Brianna Jones, and one great grandchild, Cheyenne Runion.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Kelly McConihay and Dawn Huff of Hospice Care for all the loving and kind support and care they gave Jerry during this most difficult time.

A service to honor the life of Jerry will be held at 2:00 PM Monday December 1, 2008 at Snodgrass Funeral Home with Rev. Ravi Isaiah officiating.

Burial will be in Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston.

Family and friends will visit from 6 to 8 PM Sunday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to Hospice Care, Inc. 1143 Dunbar Ave. Dunbar, WV 25064.

Roberta Lynn Wiseman 11-15-2008

Roberta Lynn Wiseman, 54 of St. Albans went to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 15, 2008 after a short illness.

Roberta was a member of Dunbar First Church of God and was employed by the Kanawha County Board of Education as an On Deck and Third Base Director, and in doing this touched the lives of many children.

Roberta was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Ellen Daniels.

She is survived by her husband John H. Wiseman of St. Albans.

Her daughter and son-in-law, Christina M. and Kenneth W. Shamblen of East Bank.

Her other daughter, Catherine E. Wiseman and her fiancé Brian A. Cavender of St. Albans. Her son J. Michael Wiseman of St. Albans.

Five grandchildren Ashley, Jessica, Ian and Whitney Shamblen, and Logan Wiseman.

She is also survived by her father William R. “Bob” Daniels, her brother Daniel R. Daniels, his wife Fran and their two children; Danielle and Robbie Daniels, all of St. Albans.

Her sister-in-law, Connie Bowles, her husband Charles Bowles of Sissonville and their two children Eddie and David Bowles.

Plus many, many friends and extended family.

Roberta’s life and love will continue on through the many lives she touched, for anyone that knew her, knew that she was truly an amazing woman.

A service to honor the life of Roberta will be held at 11:00 am Friday November 21, 2008 at Snodgrass Funeral Home, South Charleston.

Family and friends will visit from 6 to 8 PM Thursday at the funeral home.

Edward Emmett Young 8-15-2008

Edward Emmett Young, 90, returned to his Father in Heaven, surrounded by his family, on August 14, 2008.

Ed was born on April 10, 1918 in Ashland, Kentucky to the late Thomas and Hazel Young.

He married his sweetheart Evelyn Staten in April 1942; she predeceased him in August 2001.

Ed served in the United States Army during WWII receiving the Purple Heart and the Medal of Valor.

He was very active in his church the South Charleston First Church of the Nazarene.

For many years he was also treasurer of the WV district church of the Nazarene.

He enjoyed music, especially playing the piano and singing. He loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Ed is survived by his daughter Ruth (Del) Lafevor; grandchildren Debbie (Wayne) McNett, Pam (Darin) Brown, Karen (Brian) Solomon, David (Tonya) Lafevor; 9 great grandchildren; sister Evelyn Young of W. Va.; several nieces and nephews and special friends JoAnn and Rick Fields.

Ed was preceded in death by his sister Edith Young and his brothers Win and Tom.

A service to honor the life of Edward will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, August 21 at First Church of the Nazarene, South Charleston, with Pastor Mike Estep officiating.

A 2:00 PM graveside service will follow at the Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland, Kentucky.

Family and friends will visit from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday at Snodgrass Funeral Home, South Charleston.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to First Church of the Nazarene, 4923 Kentucky St. South Charleston, WV 25309.
