Evelyn Marie Lobuts

Evelyn Marie Lobuts, 93, passed away after an extended illness on Friday (Feb. 2, 2007) at Wishing Well Manor.

Evelyn was born Dec. 22, 1913, in Fairmont, a daughter of the late Vincent Vicchiarelli (Olds) and Josephine Buarducci Vicchiarelli (Olds). She was the widow of John F. Lobuts.

Evelyn attended Fairmont Senior High School. She retired from the Marion County Senior Citizens Program, working as a secretary in the office of the Senior Citizens in the Marion County Courthouse after 19 years of service. She worked also as a seamstress for Jones’ Fur Service before working for the Senior Citizens. She was an active member of St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church.

Evelyn was a 50-year-plus member of the Catholic Daughters of America. She served as regent of the Court and also as the state grand regent. She enjoyed being with the Catholic Daughters organization very much and was active in all of their activities. She also worked with the youth planning on joining into the Catholic Daughters.

Evelyn is survived by three children, Dolores J. Gaskin and son-in-law Vaughn W. Jr. of Fairmont, Dr. John F. Lobuts Jr. and daughter-in-law Irene of Maryland, and Mary Ann Coceano and son-in-law Leo of New Jersey. She is also survived by grandchildren, Bruce T. Gaskin, David E. Gaskin and wife Dionne, Brian A. Lobuts and wife Tracy, Lee Ann Layden and husband William, John Lobuts III Cmd., Barry W. Coceano and wife Dawn. Also survived by great-grandchildren, Tyler Cox, Alex Blake, Kobe Reese Gaskin, Brook and Page Lobuts, William, Matthew and Nicholas Layden, Samantha and Elizabeth Coceano. She is also survived many nieces and nephews.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, John F. Lobuts, a former Fairmont City fireman; her parents, Vincent and Josephine Vicchiarelli; brothers John, Daniel and wife Dell, Joseph and wife Ann, and Steve Vicchiarelli (Olds); sisters, Margaret and husband Peter Lobuts, Janet and husband Dominick Pellegrin.

Family and friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Ave., Fairmont. Catholic Daughters of America will conduct a ritual service at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, with Father Robert A. Perriello as celebrant. Burial will follow at the Mt. Carmel Cemetery.

Paul E. Haney Jr.

Paul E. Haney Jr., 59, of Barboursville and formerly of Fairmont, died Friday (Feb. 2, 2007) in Barboursville.

He was born March 18, 1947, in Fairmont, a son of the late Paul E. Haney Sr. and Martha June Adams Haney.

Paul was a Presbyterian by faith. He was a 1965 graduate of Fairmont Senior High School.

Paul served his country in the United States Navy, serving three terms during the Vietnam War. During his service, he received the Vietnam Service Medal with three stars and the Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon. Paul was extremely proud of his military service.

In his free time, he enjoyed listening to country music, painting, ceramics and models. Paul will be remembered for having an infectious laugh and was well-liked by everyone who knew him.

He is survived by one son, Paul E. Haney III of Washington State; three brothers and sisters, David A. Haney and his wife Terri of Hurricane, Nancy Tower of Fairmont, and Steve Haney and his wife Joy of Pittsburgh; and eight nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Denzil and Jeanette Haney, and several aunts and uncles.

Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. today and 10-11 a.m. Tuesday at the Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. D.D. Meighen officiating. Interment will follow at the West Virginia National Cemetery in Pruntytown with full military rites performed at graveside. Online condolences may be

George Clarence “Bud” Stevens

George Clarence “Bud” Stevens, 71, of Plum Run Community died Saturday (Feb. 3, 2007) at Fairmont General Hospital.

He was born Feb. 20, 1935, at Eldora, a son of the late Owen W. and Ethel Triplett Stevens.

George was mentally challenged. He enjoyed working in the flower garden and yard. He enjoyed watching the older television shows and spending time with his family.

He is survived by one brother, Charles Robert Stevens and wife Marjorie of Plum Run; and two sisters, Clara Mae Smell of Fairmont, and Shirley Toothman and husband Dolan of Plum Run, with whom he made his home for the past 33 years.

He is also survived by nieces and nephews: Nancy and Sock Spiros of Akron, Ohio; Mrs. Susan Fluharty of Bethel Community, Brenda Smell of Fairmont, Bobby Smell of Ohio, Vicky and Dan Anderson of Plum Run, Donna Stevens of Mannington, Robin and Larry Prickett of Monumental, Chuck and Karen Stevens of Petersburg, Mistie and Tom Myers of Farmington, Rod and Patti Toothman of Plum Run, and Shawn and Anita Stevens of Fairmont; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Owen W. Stevens Jr.; and an infant brother, Fred Stevens.

Friends may call from 3-9 p.m. today at the Masters Funeral Home, 209 Main St., Mannington. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Randy Vincent officiating. Burial will follow at Mannington Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association.

Debbie Baker

Debbie Baker, 44, of Metz died Sunday (Feb. 4, 2007) at Sundale Nursing Home in Morgantown.

Arrangements are incomplete at this time at Masters Funeral Home, 209 Main St., Mannington.

Dorothy Kirby

Dorothy Louise Stutler Kirby, 72, of Montana Mines Community, passed away on Tuesday (April 24, 2007) at Fairmont General Hospital.

She was born on May 20, 1934, in Harrison County, a daughter of the late Harley V. Stutler and Cora Marie Brown Stutler.

Dorothy worked in the selecting and packing department of Owens-Illinois Glass for 28 years until the facility closed. She was a member of the Christian Missionary Alliance Church. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter No. 34. She was also a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Dorothy will be remembered as a loving wife who enjoyed cooking for her family and maintaining her home. She also enjoyed taking shopping trips.

Dorothy is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, David E. Kirby; her brother, Wayne Stutler and his wife Elaine of Fairmont; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Margaret Stutler of Fairmont, Barbara and Jack May of Fairmont, and James and Kay Kirby of Ocala, Fla.; six nieces and nephews, Todd Wayne Stutler of Fairmont, David Stutler of Ocala, Fla., Kay White of Vienna, Va., Bill Stutler of West Milford, Brenda Stutler of Fairmont, and Mike Russell and his wife Tina of Rivesville; several great and great-great-nieces, nephews and cousins; and her best friend, Sarah Oliverio of Fairmont.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Edward L. Stutler.

Friends may call at Carpenter & Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, on Thursday from 1-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. and Friday from noon to 2 p.m. Order of the Eastern Star ritual service will be on Thursday at 7 pm. Services will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 2 p.m. with Pastor Bill Stutler, a nephew of the deceased, officiating. Interment will follow at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens.

Brian Varkonda

Brian Michael Varkonda, 34, of Keyser, died Friday (June 1, 2007).

Born June 6, 1972, in Cumberland, Md., he was the son of Robert and Debbie (Turner) Varkonda, Short Gap.

He was a graduate of Frankfort High School. He earned his A.A. degree from Triangle Tech. Brian was a computer technician for I.M.C. He belonged to Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, McCoole, Md.

In addition to his parents, Brian’s family includes his daughter, Alexus Ryleigh Varkonda; his grandparents, Goff and Betty Turner of Cresaptown, Md., and Elizabeth “Libby” Varkonda of Bridgeport; aunts and uncles, John Varkonda and wife, Linda, of Wolfe Summit, Cynthia Claprood and husband, David, of Bridgeport, Becky Brady and husband, Pat, of Beckley, Roxanne Buckalew of Cumberland, and Gary Turner and wife, Cheryl, of Corriganville, Md.; cousins, Cheri Gallo, John Edward Varkonda, Beth Nightengale and husband, Tim, and their children, Madi and Bryce, Josh Brady and wife, Courtney, Cherey Buckalew, Grayson Brady, Forrest Turner, Kelsey Claprood, Sarah Claprood, Doug Buckalew and Hannah Turner.

Brian was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, John Varkonda Sr.; and stepgrandfather, Albert “Red” Post.

Friends will be received at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, McCoole, from 5 to 6 p.m. Monday. A memorial service will follow at 6 p.m., with Speaker Milton Welling officiating.

Glen W. “Jack” Hunt

Glen W. “Jack” Hunt, age 79, of West Washington Street, Grafton, went to be with the Lord on Sunday (Sept. 23, 2007) at the Grafton City Hospital.

He was born on Nov. 6, 1927, in Elkins, a son of the late Charles F. Baker and Elva (Covington) Baker.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara J. (Criss) Hunt, whom he married on Oct. 14, 1960; one son, Daniel Hunt of Grafton; two grandchildren, Katelyn Hunt and Steven Hunt, also of Grafton; one sister, Nancy Baker and husband Elbert Baker of Grafton. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.

He was adopted and raised by the late Ruth Hunt and Ernie Hunt and was preceded in death by one sister, Eleanor Bell; one brother, George Baker; and beloved mother-in-law, Beatrice Criss.

Mr. Hunt was formerly employed by Woodyard Lumber Co., Foodland, Fas Food and Handy Mart.

He was a member of the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir and was an usher, member of Taylor County Senior Citizens. Mr. Hunt was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the Army.

The family will receive friends at the Donald G. Ford Funeral Home in Grafton from the hours of 4-9 p.m. today and from 12:30 p.m. Wednesday until the funeral hour. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Bert Coffman officiating. Interment will be in the WV National Cemetery at Pruntytown. Military graveside services will be conducted by VFW Memorial City Post No. 3081, Taylor County Post No. 12 American Legion, D.A.V. No. 24 and their auxiliaries.

Gerald “Jerry” L. Pellegrin

Gerald “Jerry” L. Pellegrin, 69, of Fairmont passed away Saturday (Sept. 29, 2007) at Ruby Memorial hospital in Morgantown.

He was born on March 30, 1938, in Fairmont, son of the late Nick and Nellie Anselene Pellegrin.

Jerry belonged to the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church where he was a member of the church’s Ministry of Hospitality. He also belonged to the Knights of Columbus Council No. 942 and Fourth degree Marian Assembly 2114, and the Loyal Order of the Moose in Fairmont. He graduated in 1956 from East Fairmont High School and served in the National Guard.

He was an electrician by trade, he worked at Owens-Illinois Glass Plant for 21 years then at Ace Exterminator for several years. He was an avid bowler, golfer, and bocce player and a beautiful singer.

Jerry is survived by his very attentive daughter, Lana and son-in-law Chad Smith of Fairmont; two sons, Chris and his wife Sherry Pellegrin, and David and his wife Dee Pellegrin, all of the Clarksburg area. He is also survived by one brother and sister-in-law, Nick and Sue Pellegrin of Fairmont. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Tori and Cameron Smith, Christopher, Paige, Craig Pellegrin; and his niece, Lori and Jason Zyla; and great-niece, Bastet Zyla.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Anita Pellegrin.

Friends may call at the Ross Funeral Home, 801 Fairmont Ave., Fairmont, today from 1 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 11 a.m. at immaculate Conception Catholic Church on Maryland Avenue with Father Iaquinta at Celebrant. Interment will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.

A vigil service will be held today at 8:30 p.m. in the funeral home. Knights of Columbus will hold a ritual service at 7 p.m. today evening in the funeral home.

John Henry Martin

John Henry Martin, 94, of Fairmont died Saturday morning (Sept. 29, 2007) at the Assumption Village Nursing Home in North Lima, Ohio.

He was born in Fairmont on June. 28, 1913, son of the late Andrew and Julia Curley Martin.

Mr. Martin retired from Owens-Illinois Glass Plant and worked in the mold repair shop for 34 years of service. He was a long-standing member of immaculate Conception Catholic Church, a member of the men’s organization at the church, a member of the financial committee and helped in the church office. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus council No. 942. He graduated from St. Peters High School and also took advanced mathematics night courses at West Virginia University. He was a master bridge player.

He is survived by two daughters and five sons, Sue and Bob Plutro of Fairmont, Mary and David Blashford of Charleston, Andy and Millie Martin of Boardman, Ohio, Jack and Ellouise Martin of Seaford, Del., Michael Martin of Richmond, Va., Bob and Donna Martin of Gastonia, N.C., and Paul and Caryn Martin of Gastonia, N.C.

He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, Vicki and (John) Hudson, Andrew James Martin II, Melissa and (G.C.) Spainiol, Michael and (Beth) Plutro, Rob and (Kelly) Plutro, Cindy Plutro, John and (Angela) Martin, Katie Martin, Stephanie and (Chris) Wagoner, and Megan Blashford, Craig and (Debbie) Lowe and Terry and (Doug) Lamb; and 18 great-grandchildren; and two special nieces, Patty Pagandorn and Julie Boole.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Mary Jane Coughlin Martin; one brother, Eugene Martin; and one sister, Catherine Moore. Mr. Martin was the last surviving member of his family.

Friends may call at the Ross Funeral Home, 801 Fairmont Ave., Fairmont, today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 1 to 9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church on Maryland Avenue with Father Casey Mahone at celebrant and Father Patsy Iaquinta as co-celebrant. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Michael Plutro, Robert Plutro Jr. Andrew James Martin II, John Martin, James Joseph Coughlin, and David Blashford.

A vigil service will be held Tuesday evening at 8:30 p.m. in the funeral home.

Susan Louise (Piscitelli) Hevener

Susan Louise (Piscitelli) Hevener, 67, of Mingo Junction, Ohio, formerly of Fairmont, passed away Saturday (Sept. 29, 2007) at her home with her family and friends.

She was born Nov. 10, 1939, in Fairmont, daughter of the late James V. Piscitelli and Adeline Piscitelli of Fairmont.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her brother, James Piscitelli, who died in 1991.

She graduated from West Fairmont Senior High School and attended Fairmont State College. She previously worked as a manager of Brookevale Wholesale Stores, in Monessen, Pa. for seven years. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her husband, Roland C. Hevener of Mingo Junction; and her five children, Kathy M. Getz of Morgantown, Joseph W. Pyles of Toronto, Ohio, Jacqueline M. Mounts of Crawfordsville, Fla., James M. Pyles of Whitehall, and Mark F. Pyles of Mingo Junction; and six grandchildren, Trevor Getz of Morgantown, Carl Pyles of Florida, Mary and Michael Mounts of Crawfordsville, Fla., Rebecca (Pyles) Toller of Fairmont and David Pyles of Whitehall.

She enjoyed cooking, sewing, crafts, decorating and especially the love of her family. Everyone that knew her loved her for her beautiful smile and gentle and loving personality.

In lieu of flowers, condolences can be sent to the family at 128 Parr Ave., Mingo Junction, Ohio 43938. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Blaschalk-Wilson Funeral Home, Mingo Junction, Ohio.

Martha Helen Richardson

Martha Helen Richardson, 83, of Barrackville passed away Sunday (Sept. 30, 2007) at Wishing Well Health Center in Fairmont after an extended illness.

Martha was born Aug. 23, 1924, in Kingwood, daughter of the late Samuel Victor Elliott and Lyda Foreman Elliot.

Martha was a member of Katy Baptist Church where she was very active in the church.

Survivors include her husband, Scott Richardson; four sons and wives, Pat and Barbara Richardson of Monumental, Mitch and Carolyn Richardson of Fairmont, Brad Richardson and Stan Richardson, both of Barrackville; a sister, Katherine Wilburn of Kingwood; six grandchildren, Ben Richardson, Ches Maxwell, Mitchell Richardson, Mary Richardson, Kelly Ash, Drew Richardson; and two great-grandchildren, Caroline and Jocelyn Maxwell.

In addition to her parents, Martha is preceded in death by a daughter, Elaine Richardson; four brothers and four sisters.

Family will receive friends at the Katy Baptist Church today from 1 until 3 p.m. and 4 until 8 p.m. and Tuesday form 9 until 11 a.m. Funeral service will be Tuesday 11 a.m. at the church with Pastor Marvin Stalnaker officiating. Burial will follow at the Barrackville Baptist Cemetery. Domico Funeral Home in Fairmont is in charge of arrangements.

Charles Miller

Charles Wayne Miller, 56, of Colfax Community passed away on Sunday (Sept. 30, 2007) at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.

He was born at St. Clairsville, Ohio, on Sept. 7, 1951, a son of the later Bernard J. and Effie Mae Dent Miller.

Charles was currently employed in the shipping department of Ruskin Manufacturing. He graduated from Fairmont Senior High School. He had enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Sandra Gable Miller; a son, Craig Emery of Fairmont; a daughter, Cheryl Chrislip of Bridgeport; two grandchildren, David Chrislip and Tanner Chrislip; a brother, Dwayne A. Miller and his wife Rebecca of Fairmont; two sisters, Darlene Yost and her husband Junior of Benson, N.C., and Alma Jean Anderson and her husband Richard of Athens, Ohio; two sisters-in-law, Josephine Miller of Lansing, Ohio, and Nola Jackson and her daughter Jackie Jackson Ford of Gerrardstown; and 12 nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister-in-lawn, Elmer Miller and Richard Miller and his wife Elizabeth and two sisters, Ruth Miller and Evelyn Miller.

Friends may call at the Carpenter & Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, on Tuesday from 1 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Services will be at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, at the funeral home with Dr. Earl Klein officiating. Interment will follow at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens.
