Mildred West

Mildred Lee West, a daughter of the late Clarence and Blanche White, was born in Braddock, Pa., Jan. 18, 1925. She departed this life on June 19, 2006.

She attended public school in Washington, D.C., and also attended the Cortez Peters Business School in that city.

Mrs. West was employed by the Federal Housing Administration and later retired from the Department of Housing and Urban Development after 30 years of faithful service.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Bertha E. Campbell; and a brother, Clarence L. White Jr.

Mildred was an active member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Washington, D.C. and Christ Episcopal Church in Columbia, Md., before moving to Fairmont in 1989.

In Fairmont, she was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She returned to Columbia in 1999 and resumed her service as an active member of Christ Episcopal Church.

She leaves to mourn a loving husband, John R. West Jr. of Columbia, Md.; two sons, Melvin A. West of New York, and John R. West III of Columbia, Md.; one sister, Louise A. Baker of Silver Spring, Md.; three granddaughter, LaKisha Moore and husband Thomas Moore of Greenbelt, Md., Adrian Y. and Christina M. West of Columbia, Mc.; one great-granddaughter, Kayla Nicole Koroma (daughter of Adrian Y. West); a loving, devoted daughter-in-law, Valerie C. West (wife of John R. West III) of Columbia, Md.; a host of nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law; a number of special grandchildren; and many friends.

Mildred’s remains were cremated at her request, and the ashes will be interred in the Christ Episcopal Church Cemetery in Columbia, Md.

Violet Hall Kramer
Violet Hall Kramer, 101, of Morgantown passed away Saturday (Nov. 11, 2006) at the Madison Rehab Center.

She was born Dec. 21, 1904, in Grantsville, a daughter of the late Martin Luther and Nancy Anna Minnie Hall.

She was a longtime member of the Pisgah United Methodist Church and attended the Women’s Society meetings. She was a graduate of Fairmont State College. Violet was an elementary school teacher. Her career started on Cadel Mountain, Preston County, and the Wolf School near the Maryland state line.

She married Allen Kramer on June 8, 1931, in Elkins, at which time her teaching ended until the mid-1950s, when she returned to teaching for 10 more years. The last schools where she taught were Jere and Easton elementary schools in Monongalia County.

Violet loved to read and quilt with the women in her neighborhood.

She is survived by two sons, Balt Kramer, and Sam Kramer and wife Ellen; a daughter, Nancy and her husband Bob Rose of Jenson Beach, Fla.; and 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Allen M. Kramer; a daughter, Carolyn Kramer Long; infant son, John Martin Kramer; son, Wayne Hall Kramer; a granddaughter, Susan Kramer; and a daughter-in-law, Beverly Faulkner Kramer.

Family and friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown. The body will be moved and lie in state from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday at Pisgah United Methodist Church on Route 73. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church with the Rev. Thomas Shepherd officiating. Burial will follow at Pisgah Cemetery on Route 73, Smithtown Road. Donations may be made in her memory to Pisgah United Methodist Church, c/o Sandy Schnopp, 2634 Smithtown Road, Morgantown, WV 26508.

Christopher D. Roberts

FAIRMONT — Christopher D. Roberts, 36, of Littleton, died Wednesday (May 5, 2010) at his residence.

He was born Oct. 22, 1973, at Fairmont, a son of Rita Carol Null Roberts of Littleton and the late David E. Roberts.

Chris was employed by the Wetzel County Board of Education as a teacher at Hundred High School. He taught junior and senior English.

He was a Protestant by faith and a member of the Hundred Church of Christ.

Surviving in addition to his mother are aunts and uncles, Gregory B. and Mary Beth Null of New Martinsville, Robert P. Roberts and Mark A. Roberts, both of Littleton, and Kathie and Joe Schamer of Covington, Ky.; and cousins, Matt Null, Andrea Null and Jacqueline Null.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Neill and Marie McDonald Null; and his paternal grandparents, Wilbert E. “Eddie” and Marie Cain Roberts.

Friends will be received at Tennant Funeral Home in Hundred from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 11 a.m. Saturday with Evangelist Dick Bartrug officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Forest Cemetery near Hundred.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hundred-Littleton Alumni Association, c/o Karen Longwell, P.O. Box 401, Hundred, WV 26575.

Betty Jean Summers

FAIRMONT — Betty Jean Summers, 81, of Fairview, was called home to be with our Lord Tuesday (May 11, 2010) at Fairmont General Hospital.

Betty was born April 17, 1929, in Lumberport, daughter of the late Lawrence Cisoski and Hazel (Carroll) Cisoski.

Betty was the former owner of Betty and Chet’s Restaurant in Fairview. Betty was a past member of the Rebekkah Lodge and Pythian Sisters. She had been very active in the Fairview Volunteer Fire Department EMS and Ladies Auxiliary. In her youth she attended Teverbaugh Methodist Church in Four States and taught Bible School there for several years.

Survivors include her loving and caring husband of 50 years, Chester Lee Summers, whom she married March 19, 1960; three children, Michael McCartney and wife Ann of Lordstown, Ohio, Mary Salina and husband Jim of Grant Town, and Cathy Haught and husband Stanley of Fairview; a sister, Janet Pyles and husband Sam of Fairview; grandchildren, Greg McCartney and wife Tammy, Jay McCartney and wife Jen, Michael Salina and wife Mandy, Andrea Thompson and husband Joe, James McCartney and wife Lisa, Stacey Zicafoose and husband Mike, Miranda “Mandi” Riggs and husband Stacy, and Angelina Triplett and husband Clarence; great-grandchildren, Ashton, Lydia, Justin, Hailey, Raegan, Maddie, Tristan, Garrett, Macy and Payton; great-great-granddaughter, Abby Marie; in-laws, David and Marg Summers, Steve and Patty Kish, Marvin and Janet Summers, Betty Ruth Bulkoski, Otis Summers, Bill and Toni Summers, Ruby Summers and Jean Barr; many nieces and nephews; and special friends and neighbors from School Street, TC and Kathi, Dave and Becky, and Margie and Lynn.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her first husband, James McCartney Sr.; a son, James McCartney Jr.; brother, Donald Lee Cisoski; and a sister, Jacqueline Cisoski.

Family and friends may call at Domico Funeral Home, Curry Chapel, Fairview, from 1 to 9 p.m. today and from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday. Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home with the Rev. Larry Harker officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery.

Paul Hendricks
Paul Robert Hendricks, 80, of Rivesville, passed away Thursday evening (June 1, 2006) at his residence surrounded by his family.

He was born Dec. 12, 1925, in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of the late Demege and Helen Jurcak Borowy.

Mr. Hendricks was Catholic by faith.

He was proud to serve in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He served in the South Pacific.

He retired from Owens-Illinois of Fairmont with 35 years of service. He last worked in the corrugating department. He later was employed with the West Virginia ABC Store of Fairmont.

Mr. Hendricks enjoyed listening and recording music, Italian and polka. He also was an avid sports fan.

He lovingly enjoyed spending quality time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Clara Caputo Hendricks of Rivesville; two daughters and their husbands, Paula Jo and Steve Michael of Rivesville, and Cindy and Creig Owens of Daybrook Community; four grandchildren, Brooke and Will Michael, both of Rivesville, and Sarah and Daniel Paul Owens of Daybrook Community; two brothers, James and his wife Tonya Borowy of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and James “Chuck” and his wife Sylvia Patechuk of Fairmont; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Joe and Linda Caputo of Rivesville, Paul and Jo Anne Jezioro of Nashville, Tenn., Charles and Armeda Wilson of Kingwood, and Ann Rote of Rivesville.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Hendricks was preceded in death by Guy and Isabelle Girard, Frank and Ann Caputo, Sam and Edith Caputo, Marjorie Borowy, John Rote; John, Patsy, Anthony, and Dorothy Caputo, and Rose and Joe Caputo.

Friends may call from 3-9 p.m. today and 1-3 p.m. Sunday at the Ford Funeral Home, DeGarmo Chapel, Jasper St., Rivesville. Services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with Father Frances Babulu and the Rev. Stanley Merrifield officiating. The Marion County Veterans Council will conduct military flag-folding rites following the service at the funeral home.

Following the service, family and friends will gather for dinner and fellowship.

The Rev. Brent J. Dugan
The Rev. Brent J. Dugan, 60, of Ben Avon, Pittsburgh, Pa., passed away Friday (Nov. 3, 2006).

He was the beloved son of Joyce Lawson Dugan Decker of Edinboro, Pa., and the late Joseph P. Dugan; and the beloved brother of Brenda Petrick Dugan of Cambridge Springs. He is also survived by nephews Brent Petrick and his wife Julie of Cambridge Springs, and Chad Petrick and his wife Christina of Parrish, Fla.; a niece, Natalie Petrick and her fiancé, Eddie Miller of Edinboro; grandniece, Ciara Petrick of Cambridge springs and grandnephew Brayden Miller Petrick of Edinboro; and by many aunts, uncles and cousins.

The Rev. Dugan had been pastor of the Community Presbyterian Church of Ben Avon for the past 18 years and an active member of the Pittsburgh Presbytery. He had previously served the First Presbyterian Church in Fairmont. He was a graduate of Edinboro College, The Pittsburgh Theological Seminary and Duquesne University.

In addition to his many other community activities, he was a founder of the Community Theatre Players. His avocations included fishing with friends at the Pine Lakes Trout Club and sailing.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday and 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday at the Community Presbyterian Church of Ben Avon, 7501 Church Ave., Ben Avon (Pittsburgh, Pa. 15202). Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the Brent J. Dugan Memorial Fund c/o the church. Arrangements are by the Orion C. Pinkerton Funeral Home, Inc., Pittsburgh, Pa.

Gerald O. Watts Sr.

FAIRMONT — Gerald O. Watts Sr., of Fairmont, died Sunday afternoon (May 9, 2010) in his residence.

He was born Jan. 1, 1925, in Fairmont, son of the late Orval and Minnie “Cooker” Watts.

Mr. Watts was a member of Highland Avenue United Methodist Church in Fairmont. He was employed as a coal miner with the United Mine Workers, working with Consol in Morgantown. He last served as a mechanic and welder in the mines.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, with four years of service. He was stationed in Japan. He was a member of VFW Post 629 of Fairmont, and a member of Fairmont Moose Lodge.

Mr. Watts was a true friend of Bellview Community. He enjoyed traveling to Myrtle Beach and enjoyed family activities.

Survivors include his wife, Mary L. Hess Watts of Bellview Community; two sons, Dale and his wife Dixie Sapp of Bellview Community and Patrick Watts of Bellview Community; one daughter, Brenda Bennett of Bellview Community; one brother, Orval “Huno” Watts of St. Petersburg, Fla.; one sister, Madeline Wilson of Monongah; three grandchildren, Nicole Bennett of Bellview Community, Zachary Sapp of Bellview Community and David Hollinsbaugh of Cincinnati; and two great-grandchildren, Courtney Hefner and Cody Andrick.

He was preceded in death by two children, Judith Hollinsbaugh and Gerald “June Bug” Watts; one brother, Ernie Watts; and one sister, Teenie Wilson.

Friends may call at Ford Funeral Home, R.C. Chapel, 1410 Country Club Road, Fairmont, from 6 to 8 p.m. today, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 10 to 11 a.m. Friday. Funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 11 a.m. Friday with Pastor Karen Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens, Morgantown. The Marion County Veterans will observe full military honors at the graveside.

The family greatly appreciate the care and concern shown by Dr. Azar and his staff and Dr. Ang and his staff.

The family requests that all memorial donations be made to Hospice Care of Fairmont, 1406 Country Club Road, Fairmont, WV 26554.

Linda Lou Ott

FAIRMONT — Linda Lou Ott, 67, of Paden City, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday (May 11, 2010) at Wheeling Hospital, Wheeling.

Linda was born on June 7, 1942, in Fairmont, daughter of the late Emerson E. and Roxie G. Neel Frame.

She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a graduate of East Fairmont High School and attended West Virginia Business College. She was a longtime supporter of the Paden City High School Band and Athletics, and a member of First Baptist Church of Paden City.

Surviving are her husband of 48 years, Jerrie D. Ott; her three children, Darla (Doug) Schnegg, Marsha (Brad) Croasmun and Jerry (Stacey) Ott Jr.; her three siblings, Eugene (Barbara) Frame, Judith (Charles) Hayhurst and Ruth (Tommy) Heston; five grandchildren, Eric Croasmun, Jessica Schnegg, Adam Croasmun, Emily Ott and Ty Ott; and several nephews, nieces and great-nephews and -nieces.

Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Jarvis-Williams Funeral Homes, Paden City. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of Paden City with Pastor David V. Tosi and Pastor Kenneth Brougham co-officiating. Interment will be at Paden Memorial Gardens, Paden City.

Evelyn Miker

FAIRMONT — On Wednesday (May 12, 2010) the Lord came to Monongalia General Hospital and received Evelyn Miker, 81, of the River Road into his loving arms.

Evelyn was born Sept. 18, 1928, in Adamsville, a daughter of the late Earl P. and Alverta Shomo Slaughter.

Evelyn was a homemaker and a member of Booth–Union United Methodist Church. Evelyn enjoyed gospel and country music but her greatest joy in life was being a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved generously and was loved by all, especially the many children she came in contact with.

Evelyn is survived by her husband of 54 years, Steve Miker Sr.; one son, Steve Miker Jr. and wife Joyce of Shinnston; two daughters, Karen Nichols and husband Gary of Fairmont and Debra Cline of Westover; grandchildren, Melissa, Chrissy, Tiffany and Joshua Nichols and Julie, Eric and Donielle Miker; and one sister, Ruth Robinson of Morgantown.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Ronald Cline; four sisters, Kathleen McCann, Lucille Arnett, Martha Rohrbough and Myrtle Lowther; and four brothers, Dale Slaughter, Stanley Slaughter, Ralph Slaughter and Denzil Slaughter.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Brian Arthurs, Beth Thewlis and the staffs of Monongalia General Hospital, Ruby Memorial Hospital, Golden Living Center and the Tygart Center for their kindness and care.

Friends may call at McCulla Funeral Home, 770 Fairmont Road, Morgantown, from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, and Saturday from 11:30 a.m. until the 1:30 p.m. funeral service with the Rev. Betty McBee officiating. Burial will follow at Beverly Hills Cemetery.

Carolyn Kirk

FAIRMONT — Carolyn Louise Kirk, 51, of Interlachen, Fla., formerly of Fairmont, passed away Thursday (May 6, 2010).

She was born July 27, 1958, the daughter of Juanita Kirk and the late Darrell Kirk of Interlachen.

She is survived by four children: Joseph Brummage of Interlachen, John Brummage of Fairmont, Christina Conner of Washington, Maine, and Darrell Kirk; and five grandchildren.

She had three brothers and one sister: David Smallwood of Fairmont, Robert Kirk of Charleston, S.C., Darrell Kirk of Aiken, S.C., and Eveyln Shorter of Farmington; and several nieces and nephews.

Edith Kauril

Edith Kauril, our dearest mother, Oma and great Oma, passed away peacefully after a short illness, on May the 7th 2008. Born at Tatrahaza, Hungary, Edith lived many years in Africa ending her life’s journey in Almost Heaven, West Virginia.

Edith was known by many for her congenial nature, enthusiasm, and great determination. By her loving family who are now spread across the Earth, she is dearly remembered as a remarkable, multi-faceted woman of character and culture. With her gifted hands she built a loving home filled with warmth, kindness, and the sound of good music. She personified goodly principles, and was truly an inspiration to all she associated with. Today, Edith is reunited with her loving husband Franz, her beloved parents Vilmos and Helena, and all those whom she loved so dearly. Now, once again they are all reunited to be together forever. We will miss you.

The family will receive friends at the McCulla Funeral Home on Saturday, May 10, 2008 from 11:00 AM until the noon memorial service with Graham Knowles officiating.

Robert R. Mankins

Robert R. Mankins, age 67 of the Fairmont Road, Westover passed away Thursday, May 1, 2008 at Ruby Memorial Hospital. He was born July 18, 1940 in Tunnelton, WV a son of the late Claude and Maxine Ennis Mankins.

Robert was a United States Air Force Veteran, serving with the Presidential Unit at Andrews Air Force Base. Following his military service, Robert was employed by the United States Postal service as a carrier and then as a security guard for Security Consulting Group at the Morgantown office. Robert was an outgoing person, who loved his friends and cared about them dearly. His hobbies were making his wonderful pumpkin pies and enjoying his friends.

Robert is survived by his wife of twenty-eight years Sandra Wood Mankins, three daughters, Debbie and Ronald Fetsch of Hereford, TX, Trinka and Gary Castle of Thayne WY, and Eliska Hahn of Morgantown, one son Danny Mankins of Boise City, OK, two sisters Mary Ellen Mankins and Ruth Ann Mankins both of Baltimore, MD, one brother, Richard and Betty Mankins of Morgantown, five grandchildren, Joshua Fetsch and wife Amy, Kyle Fetsch, Brandy Mankins, Steven Hahn, and Talia Betourney, and two great grandchildren, Jaxon Fetsch and Jayton Fetsch due June 22, one niece, Belinda Beers and husband Richard of Westover and William Mankins of Westover.

Two brothers, James Mankins and Claude Mankins Jr and one nephew, Greg Mankins preceded him in death.

Friends may call at the McCulla Funeral Home in Morgantown, WV on Sunday from 2-9 PM. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11:00 AM at the McCulla Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Uphold officiating. Burial will follow at the WV National Cemetery in Pruntytown with military honors.
