Robert Lee Blake, age 71 of Sugar Grove Road, Morgantown passed away Sunday, June 14, 2009 at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Robert Jr. and Sheila Blake of Rt. 1 Fairmont. He was born September 25, 1937 in Morgantown a son of the late Fred and Rella Davy Blake.
Robert had been employed as a coal miner with Robinson Run Mine, was a member of the UMWA, and was a United States Marine Corp veteran.
Robert is survived by his four children and their families, Robert Jr. and Sheila and Martin and Cheryl all of Route 1, Fairmont, Mark Blake of Morgantown and Tammi Blake and her fiancée, James Simons of Monumental, four sisters, Nancy Blake of Sugar Grove Road, Mary Blake of Morgantown, Gladys Stemple of Kingwood and Betty Hurd, of Charleston, one brother, Thomas Blake of Lewis County, eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews, including his favorite niece Nannette Burns.
Robert was preceded in death by one brother Jim and brother-in-law, Wally Stemple.
Friends may call from 4-8 PM Tuesday at the McCulla Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday at the McCulla Funeral Home with Rev. Isaac Harmon officiating. Burial will follow at Zoar Cemetery on Sugar Grove Road with graveside military services provided by the Westover VFW Post # 9916 and the WVANG Military Funeral Honors, Camp Dawson. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Robert Blake Funeral Fund at McCulla Funeral Home.

Roy G. Blanchard Sr., age 81 of Bethel Church Road, Maidsville passed away Thursday, September 4, 2008 at Ruby Memorial Hospital. He was born October 2, 1926 in Fayetteville, NC a son of the late Roy E. and Mary Cooper Blanchard.
Roy was a retired coal miner from Humphrey # 7, had worked in the shipyards, and was very proud that in his younger years he was a trapeze artist for the G. W. Shows. He was a member of the Mt. Morris Gospel Tabernacle and was a volunteer for the Salvation Army. He was also a member of the UMWA and loved to fish.
Roy is survived by his wife of 60 years, Esther Mathilda Hyatt Blanchard, three sons, Roy Glenn Blanchard Jr. and wife Naomi of Fort Ashby, WV, William James Blanchard and wife Debbie of Maidsville and Robert Edgar Blanchard and wife Videlure of Dallas, TX, one brother Robert E. Blanchard and wife Mary of Fayetteville, NC, nine grandchildren Robert E. Blanchard Jr., Veronica K. Tate, Jessica Lynn Dittman, Jamie Blanchard, John Paul Blanchard, Michelle Laudermilk, Chrissi Bowlby, Edward Bowlby, and Sherry Blanchard, a sister-in-law Frances Blanchard of Rocky Mount, NC, 22 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
One son Jeffrey Bruce Blanchard, two brothers, Jesse Blanchard and Jack Blanchard preceded Roy in death.
Friends may call from 2-9 PM Sunday at the McCulla Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at the Mt. Morris Gospel Tabernacle on Monday at 2:00 PM with Pastors Fred Tomlinson and Milford Watters officiating. Burial will follow at Beverly Hills Cemetery.

Elaine Blosser, age 65 of Sandbanks Road, Morgantown passed away Monday, August 31, 2009 at Monongalia General Hospital. She was born June 23, 1944 in Morgantown a daughter of Agnes St. Clair of Morgantown and the late Howard Middleton.
Elaine had been employed at the Pajama Factory and was a former member of the Salvation Army. Elaine had a wide range of interests and hobbies. She was an avid reader, a good bowler and always enjoyed working puzzle books.
In addition to her mother, Elaine is survived by her husband of 22 years, Ronald Lee Blosser; two daughters, Carla Bate and husband Mark of Dilliner, PA, and Jennifer Cassino of Minneapolis, MN; three sisters and spouses, Judy and Robert Justus of Morgantown, Charlotte and Doug Long of Morgantown, and Josephine and Jim Goldring of Michigan; three stepchildren, Carol Bee, Ronald Blosser Jr., and Randy Blosser; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
One sister, Geraldine Scire, preceded Elaine in death.
Friends may call from 3-5 & 7- 9 PM Friday at the McCulla Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday at McCulla Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hills Cemetery.

Lillian Mae Blosser, 84, of Morgantown, WV passed away Monday, April 26, 2010 at Sundale Nursing Home.
Lillian was born on March 4, 1926 in Morgantown. She was the daughter of the late James and Dorothy "Pearl" Park of Morgantown. She was a Christian by faith and a member of the Harvest Church of God.
During World War II, at the age of 17, she relocated to Akron, OH where she worked as a riveter for Goodyear Aircraft, working on the cabin part of the Goodyear Blimps. Later she worked as a welder at the Ambridge shipyards (north of Pittsburgh, PA).
Lillian worked as a private duty nurse in Morgantown from the 1950s through the mid-1970s. She was a Charter Member of the WV Licensed Practical Nurse Association, District 8 for over 50 years and served as both past-President and past-Secretary for the Association. She was the last surviving member of the original charter group.
Lillian enjoyed reading, camping, traveling and the great outdoors. She loved to swim and at the age of 60, earned her Advanced Red Cross swimming certificate. Even as her health failed her, she continued to be an outgoing spirit and made many friends along the way.
She is survived by her two sons, Michael and wife Joyce Blosser of Morgantown and Mark Blosser of Morgantown; grandchildren include Curtis Blosser whom she raised, Andrew "AJ" Blosser, Erik Blosser, Shayla Blosser, and Logan Blosser. She is also survived by her brother Ernest and wife Twila Park of Morgantown; as well as two sisters-in-law, Rosie Blosser and Mary Park; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence "Larry" McKay Blosser, her sister Dorothy L. Casteel, and two brothers, William Park and James Park.
Family and friends will be received at McCulla Funeral Home on Thursday, April 29th from 4 -7 pm and on Friday from 11 am until the funeral service at 12 pm with the Reverend Kevin Summers officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery on the Kingwood Pike. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Lillian’s memory to the Hospice Care Corporation, 3363 University Avenue Morgantown, WV 26505.

Violet R. Boggs, age 89 of Sugar Grove Road, Morgantown passed away Friday, October 23, 2009 at Monongalia General Hospital. She was born June 16, 1920 in Washington County, PA a daughter of the late Charles and Nellie Tharp Kelley.
Violet was a homemaker and a member of the Laurel Point United Methodist Church. When raising her children, Violet was an active member of the G. W. Phillips School PTA and was active in the 4-H Club. She loved raising a garden, canning, feeding the wildlife and providing homes for her many bird friends.
Violet is survived by two daughters, Nellie Zakel and husband Jim of Ashtabula, OH and Phyllis Nellies of Morgantown, six grandchildren, Violet “Cricket” Walker, Charles Baliker, Robert Baliker, William Baliker, Matthew Boggs, and Daniel Boggs, fifteen great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Violet was also survived by a special nephew and caregiver, Daniel Stewart whom she referred to as her “right hand man.” Together they shared a passion for Mountaineer football and basketball and decorating for the holidays.
Violet was preceded in death by her husband, Matthew O. Boggs in 1986, one son Charles Edward Boggs, two sisters, Phyllis and Michele “Mick” and four brothers, William, Donald, Bud and Robert and one granddaughter, Pamela Resick.
Friends may call from 3-5 & 7-9 PM Sunday at the McCulla Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday at McCulla Funeral Home with Rev. Kevin Cain officiating. Burial will follow at Olive Cemetery.

Beryl Eileen Bolyard, 91 of Morgantown passed away Saturday, September 26, 2009 at Mapleshire Nursing Home.
She was born June 23, 1918 in Tunnelton, a daughter of the late Raymond and Amanda J. Watkins.
Eileen retired in 1982 from West Virginia University School of Human Resources and Education, where she worked in the dean’s office. She had also worked in the dean’s office at the WVU School of Arts and Sciences. She loved to crochet and make ceramics. She participated in the Bible study at Chestnut Hill Apartments.
Eileen is survived by three children, Josephine Bucklew and spouse Raymond, of Stephenson, VA., Linda Queen and spouse Louis of Morgantown, and Richard R. Bolyard and spouse Carla of Oldtown, MD.; two sisters, Jean Janowski of Baltimore, and Jackie Nutter and spouse Charles of Baltimore; six grandchildren, Peggy B. Hodgson and spouse Rodney of Middletown, VA, Deborah Bucklew and fiancé Tim McKee of Winchester, VA., R. Douglas Bucklew of Yellow Springs, WV., Lisa Kniceley and spouse Barry of Rivesville, Louis L. Queen Jr. and spouse Pam of Morgantown, and Shane Bolyard and fiancé Melinda Hatcher of Choujeguan, South Korea; six great-grandchildren, Bradford Hodgson, Jennifer Spitzer and spouse Jeremy, Emily Bucklew, Khrystine Kniceley Richards and spouse Kenneth, and Kayla and Hannah Queen; and several nieces and nephews.
Her husband, Chester R. Bolyard, two brothers, Ralph Watkins, and William Watkins, one sister, Betty Arrington; and a great grandson Thomas Brian Fitchett preceded Eileen in death.
Friends may call at the McCulla Funeral Home, 770 Fairmont Road, Morgantown, WV from 4:00-8:00 PM Monday and on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday at McCulla Funeral Home with Rev. Rick Howard officiating. Burial will follow at the Beverly Hills Mausoleum. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses and staff at Mapleshire Nursing Home for their special care, kindness and friendship.

Larry A. Bowser, Sr., 72 of Granville, West Virginia, passed away on January 6, 2010. He was a beloved husband, father, son, brother and friend. He is predeceased by his father, William D. Bowser, his granddaughter Angela Nicole-Bowser Camilletti, his sister-in-law Betty Bowser and his brother-in-law Earl Constable. He is survived by his wife Nancy C. Hunt Bowser of 53 years, his three children and their spouses, Larry A. and Janet Bowser, Jr., Sandy Camilletti, Ella and Rich Mayle and Howard Thurman. He is also survived by his mother, Wilda E. Friend Bowser, six grand children and their spouses, Jeremiah Thurman, Ashley Bowser Stull and Douglas Stull, Megan Camilletti, Lena Camilletti and Emily Thurman, two step-grand children William Mayle and Kristina Mayle, one great grandchild Kaylee Thurman, five siblings and their spouses, Wade Bowser, Delmas and Annabelle Bowser, Delores Constable, Martha and Tom Sollars, Peggy and Roger Stewart and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Larry is also survived by his faithful dog “Hoppy”.
He was a retired coal miner from Consol and a proud member of the United Mine Workers of America. Larry was also a member of the Eastside Church of Christ in Fairmont, West Virginia.
A memorial service will be held at McCulla Funeral Home in Westover, West Virginia on January 16, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. with Minister Steve Wallace officiating. Burial will follow in Beverly Hills Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his name to The ALS Association, Development Department, 27001 Agoura Road, Suite 250 Calabasas Hills, CA 91301.

Mary Heath Brand, age 68 of Canyon Village, Morgantown passed away Thursday, June 11, 2009 at Monongalia General Hospital. She was born August 25, 1940 in Morgantown a daughter of the late Charles G. and Ida Mae Zonner Richards.
Mary was a homemaker and a loving kind-hearted person. Her greatest joy was found in cooking or baking for family and friends.
Mary is survived by her husband of 47 years, Charles Robert Brand, one daughter, Cynthia Diane Brand Nelson of Buffalo, NY, one son, Charles Robert Brand Jr. of Buffalo, NY, grandchildren, Troy Nelson and Charles Robert Brand III, brothers, Jerry Richards, Charles Richards, Melvin Richards, and Harold Richards.
Her sisters, Shirley Merrifield, Emma Baughman, Minnie Richards and JoAnn Richards, and brothers Raymond and Bob Richards preceded Mary in death.
McCulla Funeral Home provided cremation services and graveside services will be held at Beverly Hills Cemetery on Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Kevin Cain officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family at 40 Canyon Village, Morgantown, WV 26508.

Dr. David K. Brown, 73, of Morgantown passed away on October 28, 2009 at Monongalia General Hospital. David was born to Kenneth and Florence Nesi Brown on August 2, 1936 in Scranton, PA.
Dr. Brown received his Master’s degree from New York University in 1960 and his Ph.D. from West Virginia University in 1974. Following his employment at Concord University, from 1966-1977, he was employed at the School of Social Work for the University of Alabama, where he served in the Center for the Study of Aging. In 1984, he served as Executive Director of the Mississippi Council on Aging and assumed the position of Executive Director of the West Virginia Commission on Aging in October of 1989. In June of 1992, he became the Director of the West Virginia Office of Aging. He served on the Board of Directors of the National Association of State Units on Aging and on the Advisory Board of the Center for Social Gerontology.
He was recognized for his work with the prestigious Vernon Dahmer award from the NAACP. He also had his textbook on aging policy published by The University Press of America. Other outstanding accomplishments included, being appointed by President Clinton to the 1995 White House Conference on Aging National Advisory Committee, and sitting on Vice President Gore’s Committee to Re-Invent Government through the Administration of Aging.
In 1996, Dr. Brown took the position as Associate Director of Education at WVU Center on Aging. He held the rank of professor in the School of Community Medicine. Dr. Brown was the past Director of the Mountain State Geriatric Education Center at WVU. He was honored with the Distinguished West Virginian Award and retired from WVU Center of Aging in August 2008.
Dr. Brown was a member of the US Naval Reserves.
David is survived by one stepdaughter, Terolyn Butler, of Tallahassee, Florida; two sisters, Carol Fine, of Summit, PA, and Marietta Donovan, of Riverton, NJ; two granddaughters, Rachel Butler of Plano, Texas, and Nicole Butler, of Austin, Texas; and four nieces.
In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Faye Pylant Brown and three sons, Mark, Kenny, and Rick.
Honoring David’s wishes, cremation services have been provided by McCulla Funeral Home. There will be a memorial service where friends and family may gather to remember and honor David’s life on Friday, November 6, at 6:00 PM at the Westover United Methodist Church with Rev. Reba Thurmond and Pastor Emory Kemp officiating.

Madeline Brown, 87 of Sundale Nursing Home formerly of Granville passed away Saturday. She is survived by her husband, Delmar Brown, sons, Charles Hamrick of Morgantown, Roy Hamrick of CA, and Henry and Harry Hamrick of OH and a grandson, Ronald Hamrick.
Madeline was preceded in death by one daughter, Frances Hamrick and one son Robert Ancil.
Friends may call at the McCulla Funeral Home on Tuesday from 11:00 AM until the 1:00 PM Funeral service with Rev. Marcie Lewis officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.

Wanda Faye Brown, age 70 of Edwin Street, Morgantown passed away Monday, July 27, 2009 at her home. She was born July 15, 1939 in Franklin, TN a daughter of the late William and Lora Anderson Pylant.
Wanda had been employed in social services with aging programs. She was a former board member of Scott’s Run Settlement House; a member of the League of Women’s Voters, National Association of Women and the ACLU. She enjoyed writing, receiving awards for her poetry, and was working on a Children’s book at the time of her death. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles and playing scrabble.
Wanda is survived by her husband of 26 years, David K. Brown, one daughter, Terolyn Butler of Tallahassee, FL, two sisters, Wilma DeFord of Tuscaloosa, AL and Janice Villenuvea of Huntsville, AL, one brother, Leon Pylant of Owens Cross Roads, AL, two granddaughters, Rachel Butler of Plano, TX, and Nicole Butler of Austin, TX and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the McCulla Funeral Home, 770 Fairmont Road Morgantown on Wednesday from 2-4 & 6:30-7:30 PM. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 7:30 PM with Pastor Emory Kemp and Rev. Reba Thurmond officiating. Cremation services will be provided with interment at a later date.
