Janice Lou Hodges Gilfilen, 74, of Hurricane died June 15, 2005, following a long illness.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Edward Gilfilen, granddaughter, Shannon Marie Gilfilen, sister, Elizabeth Gibson, and parents, Vincent and Viola Hodges.
She enjoyed sewing, quilting, cooking and taking care of babies. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hurricane.
Surviving: daughters and their husband, Brenda and Marshall Ginn, Marsha and John Davis, all of Hurricane, Verda Myers of Wisconsin, Carla and Jerry Flynn of Eleanor; sons and a daughter-in-law, Joe, Brett, Rex and Teresa, all of Hurricane; sisters, Geraldine Melton of Fraziers Bottom and Linda Porreca of Wintersville, Ohio; sister-in-law, Opal Jones; brother-in-law, Don Gilfilen; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren.
Service was held Sunday, June 19, 2005, at First Baptist Church of Hurricane with the Rev. Jim McGehee officiating. Burial was in Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane. Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane, was in charge of arrangements.

Belford Jividen
Belford Jividen, 88, of Leon died June 14, 2005, at Pleasant Valley Hospital following a long illness.
He was a lifelong resident of Mason and Putnam counties, a retired truck driver from Union Carbide Corporation with 33 years of service, a minister for 51 years, having served as an evangelist in several churches in the Buffalo area, and member of Oma Chapel Church, Arbuckle Creek.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Marsha Jividen, a grandson, Everett “Bub” Jeffers, three brothers and four sisters.
Surviving: his wife of 58 years, Norma Garrison Jividen; daughter and her husband, Sharon and Virgil Willet of Grimms Landing; sisters, Garnett Pauline Bennett of Buffalo; granddaughters and their husbands, Vanessa and Marvin Ross, Jennifer and Isaac Ross, all of Grimms Landing; stepgranddaughter, Shawnetta Tucker of Pt. Pleasant; four great-grandchildren, Michael, Ashley, Zachery and Ikey.
Service was held Saturday, June 18, 2005, at Oma Chapel Church with the Rev. Sampy Hart and the Rev. Randy Parsons officiating. Burial was in the Craig Cemetery, Grimms Landing. Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo, was in charge of arrangements.
Eugene Rex Noffsinger
Eugene Rex Noffsinger, 66, of Hometown died June 16, 2005, at home.
He was a retired brick mason and an Army veteran.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Pearlie Noffsinger.
Surviving: children, Robin Thornton and Gene Noffsinger, both of Hometown; sister, Donna Higginbotham of Red House; four grandchildren.
Graveside service was held Sunday, June 19, 2005, at Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens, Red House. Gatens-Harding Funeral Home, Poca, was in charge of arrangements.
Henry E. Peak
Henry Elliott Peak, 90, of Hurricane died June 16, 2005, in the Nicholas County Health Care Center, Richwood.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Margaret, his son, Henry Jr., his parents, George and Rose Peak, and brothers, George Jr. and Archie.
He was born February 14, 1915 at Decota on Cabin Creek. He served in the Army during World War II in Europe and the Far East. He was retired from Bethlehem Steel, Kayford, and was a member of Glad Tidings Church, Hurricane, where he served as head usher for a number of years.
Surviving: sons, Steven D. Peak of Muskogee, Oklahoma; daughter, Suzetta Marie Seacrist and her husband, Brant, of Richwood; brothers, Meril and Raymond, both of Hurricane; grandchildren, Brant H. Seacrist III and his wife, Julia, of Chesapeake, David A. Seacrist and his wife, Cynthia, of Goose Creek, South Carolina; Charles H. Seacrist and his wife, Amanda, of Brandon, Florida, and Steen Henry Peak of Muskogee; grandchildren, Justin Seacrist, Corey Seacrist and Brittany Seacrist.
Service was held Monday, June 20, 2005, at Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane. Interment was in Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston.
Garnet W. Shue
Garnet R. Wilcoxen Shue, 84, of Hurricane died June 16, 2005, at Putnam General Hospital.
Born October 8, 1920 in Fraziers Bottom, she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Ocie Poor Davis. She was also preceded in death by her husbands, Harry Wilcoxen and Alva Shue; son, Vernon Wilcoxen, sister, Gladys Lovejoy, and brother, Gordon Davis.
She was a retired physchiatric nurse from Huntington State Hospital, and, after retirement, she served as a foster grandmother for the special education students of Winfield Elementary School for several years. She was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving: sons, the Rev. Cofford Wilcoxen and wife, Carolyn, of Hurricane and Wendell `Windy” Wilcoxen of Winfield; sisters, Goldie Priddy of Marion, Ohio and Gaynell Legg of Winfield; brothers, Gilbert Davis of Fraziers Bottom; grandchildren, Cindy Wilcoxen, Pauline Thevenin, Nancy Gibson and Lois Hoffman; one great-grandson and one great-granddaughter.
Service was held Sunday, June 19, 2005, at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, with the Rev. Lawrence Dailey officiating. Burial was in Lower Hodges Cemetery, Hurricane.
Sandra E. Radcliff
Sandra Elaine Radcliff, 62, of Scott Depot died June 18, 2005, from complications of liver cancer.
She was preceded in death by her father, Archie Stone.
Sandy was born On November 10, 1942 in Wellsville, New York and grew up in Coudersport, Pennsylvania . After moving to Shrewsbury as a teenager, she graduated with honors from Cedar Grove High School in 1960, having won the American Legion Leadership Award and the Betty Crocker Homemaker Award.
She attended Glenville State College, where she met Larry. They married and raised four children in Diamond, Winfield and Scott Depot. She was employed for several years for Travelers Insurance Company in Charleston.
Surviving: her husband of 42 years, Larry; mother, Doris Stone of Scott Depot; children, Joni Pena and husband, Alejandro, of Scott Depot, Wendy Radcliff and husband, Scott Finn, of Charleston, James Radcliff and wife, Tammy of St. Albans, and Tim Radcliff and David Chapman of Poca; sister, Judith Terry and husband, Jack, of Port Charlotte, Florida; brother, Raymond Stone and wife, Judy, of Port St. Lucie, Florida; grandchildren, Kaeli Radcliff, Iris Finn and Dorian, Vanessa and Nicole Pena.
A memorial service was held Tusday, June 21, 2005, at Chapman Funeral Home, Winfield.
Billy Neal Blazer
Billy Neal Blazer, 74, of Barboursville, died Thursday, June 16, 2005, at the Veterans Administration Hospice in Hampton, Va. Funeral services were conducted Monday, June 20, 2005 at 11 a.m. at the Wallace Funeral Home by Pastor Jeff Sizemore. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. He was born February 9,1931, in Gallipolis, Ohio, the son of the late Eloise and John Blazer. He was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife of 41 years, Jeannine Blazer. He attended Rio Grande College and served with the Headquarters Battery, 89th Airborne Field Artillery Battalion of the 11th Airborne Division during the
Korean War. He worked for 38 years with Huntington Alloys and retired in 1987. He was on the Board of Trustees with American Legion Post #177. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Billy and Allison Blazer of Virginia Beach, Va; two grandchildren, William and Catherine Blazer; a brother-in-law, James Young; two sisters-in-laws, Lou and Deloris Young; and three nieces Lori, Beth and Lou Ann. Mary Magdalene Burdette
Mary Magdalene Burdette, 72, of Milton, passed away Friday, June 17, 2005 in St. Mary's Medical Center. Funeral services were conducted 11 am Monday, June 20, 2005, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with the Rev. Windell Shull officiating; Burial in Bicker Cemetery. She was born Sept. 22, 1932, a daughter of the late Elijah and Virginia Shaffer Adams. She is also preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Lee Burdette. Magdalene was survived by four daughters and three sons-in-law, Darla and Michael Vamos, Debra and Mark Orcutt, Kathy and David Ryder and Rhonda Burdette; four sons and one daughter-in-law, Eric and Loita Burdette, Robert Burdette, Michael Burdette and Wayne Adams.
Paul Cyrus Ritchie Jr
Paul Cyrus Ritchie, Jr, 61, of Crown City, Ohio, formerly of Barboursville, W.Va., died Thursday in Proctorville, Ohio. Funeral services were held 3 p.m. Sunday, Cabell Midland High School Gymnasium, Ona, WV; burial Spring Hill Cemetery, Huntington. Mr. Michael Bowyer, Barboursville Volunteer Fire Department Chaplain gave the eulogy. He was the assistant West Virginia State Fire Marshal and was a member of the International Association Bomb Technicians and Investigators, F.O.P. Lodge #122, taught at WVU Fire Service Extension and Regional Service Education Agency and was former fire chief of Barboursville. Mr. Ritchie was preceded in death by his parents Paul Cyrus Ritchie, Sr., and Marguerite Pack Ritchie. Survivors include his wife, Pam Ann Ashworth Ritchie; daughter, Michelle Ann Haddox, Huntington; and. grandchildren Theodore Prescott Haddox, IV, and Jacob Paul Ritchie Haddox. Ethel Georgia Carey, 96, of Lesage, W.Va., went home be with Jesus on Monday, June 13, 2005, at home. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, June 16, 2005, at Community Holiness Chapel Church, Lesage, with the Rev. Phillip Bowen officiating. Burial in Greenbottom Memorial Park. Grandchildren served as pallbearers. She was born February 16, 1909, in Cabell County, W.Va., a daughter of the la G.B. and Corintha Newman. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth K. Carey; son, Bobby Lee Carey, and daughter-in-law, Paula Carey. She was a charter member of the Community Holiness Chapel Church of Lesage. She and her husband worked as home parents at Green Acres for 10 years. She was a homemaker and always active in her church. She worked as a housekeeper at St. Mary's Medical Center for 15 years. She is survived by her sons, Charles E. (Ruth) of South Point, Ohio, Keith K. (Corene) of Lesage and Larry M. (Barbara) of Huntington; daughter, Kay Charlene (Richard) Malcolm of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; 15 children; 23 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. Mr. Vivian L. Jeffrey
Mr. Vivian L. Jeffrey, 85, of Barboursville died June 14, 2005 in St. Mary's Medical Center. He was born May 31, 1920, in Cabell County, a son of the late Millard F. and Eula Dillon Jeffrey. He was retired foreman for CSX with 40 years of service. He was a first troop committeeman for Boy Troop #63 at Dillon Chapel United Methodist Church, a founder and charter member of Hilltop Sportsman Club of Melissa and past president of Railway Clerks Union. He was a member of Dillon Chapel United Methodist Church and one of seven brothers who served in World War II. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Joan Adkins Jeffrey, in 1981, and brothers, Charles, Ray, Roy, Leo and Paul Jeffrey. Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Pat Jeffrey of Barboursville; three grandchildren Kelly Jeffrey and Angela and Steve Osburn, all of Huntington, and Craig Jeffrey of Athens, Ga.; great-grandchildren, Shawn and Seth Jeffrey and Brookelynn and Logan Osburn, all of Huntington, and Ethan Jeffrey of Athens, Ga.; sister, Evelyn Eden of Barboursville; and brothers, Stacy, Jack and Tom Jeffrey, all of Barboursville. John H. Persun Sr.
John H. Persun Sr., 77, of the Heartland of Riverview Nursing Home, South Point, Ohio, formerly of Huntington, W.Va., passed away June 14, 2005, in St. Mary's Medical Center. He was the owner of Persun Construction Co. Inc. and had also retired from Foodland Supermarket in Eastern Heights Shopping Center. Mr. Persun was born April 20, 1928, in Huntington, W.Va., the son of the late Morris and Gulielma Persun and was preceded in death by wife Louise Persun. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, June 16, 2005, by Robert and Pastor Andre Persun at Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel with burial in Woodmere Memorial Park, Huntington. He was a member of Second Presbyterian Church and a former member of Spring Valley Presbyterian Church. He had served as a lay minister in his later years prior to becoming a resident at Heartland. He was an avid worker and supporter in Christian youth sports programs for most of his adult life. He loved playing tennis, fishing an had enjoyed many hours of both activities with family and friends. He is survived by his former wife, Nellie Persun Ettling; daughters and spouses, Frances and Kenneth Adkins of Huntington and Margaret and Dan Fillinger of Huntington; and sons and spouses, John Jr. and Linda Persun of Ceredo, W.Va., and Robert “Bob” and Deby Persun of Holly Ridge, N.C. In addition, he is survived by his grandchildren, Kenney Ray, John Nicholas and Kassie Adkins, Erin Persun, Shellie Fillinger Goode, Angie Fillinger Wilson, Stacie Fillinger Montgomery and Andre and Mariah Persun; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. William Lawrence Vance, 78, of Culloden passed away Sunday, June 12, 2005, in St. Mary's Medical Center. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, June 15, 2005, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with the Rev. Kregg Burris and the Rev. Keith Creasy officiating. Burial in Forest, Memorial Park, Milton. He was born January 17, 1927, in Cabell County, W.Va., a son of the late William and Sabia Chaney Vance. He was a member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church, Teays Valley, and the American Legion Post 139, Milton. Vance served in the United States Army during World War II, where he spent 18 months in Germany. He retired from Columbia Gas after 47 years of employment. Angela R. Craigo Settle, 26, of Poca and Long, South Carolina died June 5, 2005.
She was a 1994 graduate of Poca High School and a 1998 graduate of Marshall University, serving her internship in nutrition at Virginia Tech. She was a former employee of Loris Community Hospital and Grand Strand Regional Hospital. She was a member of the American Dietetic Association and Lone Oak Church of God Mission. She volunteered her time in the Relay for Life and Meals on Wheels.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Audrey Arthur, and paternal grandfather, John S. Craigo.

E. O. “Dick” Harrah
E. O. “Dick” Harrah, 83, of Winfield died Monday, June 6, 2005, at Thomas Memorial Hospital.
A World War II veteran and a Marine, he was retired from Union Carbide as maintenance superintendent. He was also active in the Masons and the Shrine.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie Price Harrah, in December 1997.
Surviving: daughters, Kelli Harrah of Winfield and Karen Harrah of Columbia, South Carolina; brother, John “Pooch” Harrah and wife, Doris; grandson, Kylar Harrah of Columbia, South Carolina.
Services was held Thursday, June 9, 2005, at Snodgrass Funeral Home, South Charleston, with Father Jim O'Connor officiating. Burial was in Montgomery Memorial Park, London.
