Julia Markland, age 90 of Granville passed away Thursday, July 10, 2008 at Sundale Nursing Home. She was born November 18, 1917 in Akron, OH a daughter of the late Louis and Julia Siga Vargo.
Julia had been employed at Goodyear Tire in Akron and had also been a cook for the Alpha Delta Phi Sorority. Her favorite hobbies were sewing and quilting.
Three sisters survive Julia, Elizabeth Riley of the Grafton Road, Esther Hiser of Westover and Lydia Hoffmeyer of Minerva, OH and several nieces and nephews.
Her husband, Arthur Homer Markland and two brothers, Louis Vargo and Paul Vargo preceded Julia in death.
Friends may call from 3-5 & 7-9 PM Sunday at the McCulla Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday at the McCulla Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Hoffmeyer officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Cemetery.

Sylvia Cuppett Markley passed away Friday, August 22, 2008 at her home in El Dorado, Arkansas. She was born April 17, 1917 in Albert, West Virginia, the daughter of William M and Minnie May Paugh. She graduated from Thomas High School in 1935 and lived most of her adult life in Morgantown, West Virginia, before moving to Arkansas in 1994.
Mrs. Markley worked in a variety of positions at West Virginia University’s Boreman Hall and retired as Head of Housekeeping from that Hall.
She was active in the Methodist Church. While a member of Highland Park and Booth-Union Methodist Church , she particularly liked working with the youth, church growth, and outreach. In El Dorado, she taught Sunday school at St. Paul United Methodist Church until her eyesight failed her.
Survivors include three daughters, Lenora Grosselin, Cincinnati, Ohio; Frances (Herbert ) McIntosh, Port Huron, Michigan; Jean Eckert (Steve) Amspaugh, El Dorado, Arkansas; One son, William “Ted” (Debbie) Cuppett, Morgantown; Fifteen Grandchildren and 25 Great Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Herbert G. Cuppett and Dana M. Markley; and an infant son, Herbert Glenn Cuppett.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 25, at the William McCulla Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Betty McBee officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Union Cemetery. Family visitation will be held Monday, August 24, from 2:00-4:00 p.m and 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the McCulla Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Booth-Union United Methodist Church % Kay Pompili, 2970 River Road, Morgantown, WV 26501; or Life Touch Hospice, 2301 Champagnolle Road, El Dorado AR 71730.

June “Riley” Martin, 79, passed away at the home of her daughter, Melanie Martin Waggett, and son-in law, Gregory Alan Waggett, in Morgantown, West Virginia, on Tuesday, September 1, 2009, after losing her battle with cancer.
June was born to Esther Faehnel Riley and Albert F. “Casey” Riley of La Crosse, WI. June was educated at: St Agnes Catholic School, St Paul, Minn; St. James Catholic School, La Crosse, Wisconsin; Aquinas High School, La Crosse, Wisconsin; Hawaii Pacific College, Honolulu, Hawaii; and San Diego City College, San Diego, California.
June enjoyed a career in cosmetics and was highly regarded in her field. She worked for major corporations in the industry including Chanel, Estee Lauder, Elizabeth Arden and Max Factor. As a regional sales manager for Elizabeth Arden, in the southern California area, June received numerous awards for outstanding achievement in sales. June was very artistic and her hobbies included sewing, quilting, floral design, traveling, and fishing.
June was preceded in death by her parents, Esther and Albert Riley, and her sister, Margaret J. Riley Hilliker, of Lodi, Wisconsin. June is survived by two sons, Jackie Nile Fry, Jr., formerly of La Crosse, WI, and Marty Joe Martin, Dothan, AL; daughter, Melanie Martin Waggett, Morgantown, WV; daughter-in-law, Celeste Hart Martin; son-in-law, Gregory Alan Waggett; grandson, Michael David Martin, Largo, FL; three sisters, Helen Riley Naysmith, Piedmont, AL, Patricia Riley Moore, La Crosse, WI, and Mary Jane Riley Coco, St. Johns, AZ; two brothers, William Thomas Riley, Soap Lake, WA, and Michael Patrick Riley, Cedarburg, WI; two sisters-in-law, Sue and Renate Riley; and one brother-in-law, Ronald Naysmith.
McCulla Funeral Home has provided cremation services.

Victor H. Martin of Richland Ave., Morgantown, died Monday, May 18, 2009 at Ruby Memorial Hospital. He was born in Alima, WV, a son of the late Carl Benjamin and Nina G. Fletcher Martin.
He had been self-employed in construction and home building and attended the Living by Faith Church. He enjoyed playing gospel music on his violin and the musical saw.
He is survived by a sister, Pauline Ruth Martin of Rivesville; and many friends, including very close friend Wayne Davis.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Snyder Martin and a brother, Carl Homer Martin.
Friends may call from 3-5 & 7-9 PM Wednesday at the McCulla Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday at McCulla Funeral Home with Pastor Ernest Frymyer officiating. Burial will follow at the IOOF Cemetery in Farmington.

Vernia Louise Martin Reich, age 81 of the Golden Living Center, Morgantown, formerly of Brookhaven, passed away Friday, September 5, 2008 at Monongalia General Hospital. She was born May 7, 1927 in Junior, WV a daughter of the late George and Follie Jane Clouston Estep and a granddaughter of Cordella Ann Estep who raised her.
Vernia had been employed as a home health aide at Unity Manor and had worked as a nurse’s aide at WVU Hospital and Sundale Nursing Home. She was an active member of the First Christian Church and delivered for Meals on Wheels.
Vernia is survived by three daughters, Emma Jean Muth and husband Michael of Wasilla, Alaska, Nellie Lakatos and husband Robert (Bo) of Westover and Stella Fullmer and husband Dennis of Granville; two sons, Raymond Martin and wife Janet of Brookhaven and Leonard Martin and wife Wanda of Morgantown; twelve grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two husbands, Raymond Martin and James Reich and one brother Bud Estep.
Cremation services were provided by McCulla Funeral Home and graveside services will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2008 at 11:00 AM at East Oak Grove Cemetery with Rev. Rick Howard officiating.

Mary Ellen King Lemley, age 89 of Lake Street, Morgantown passed away Friday, August 29, 2008 at her home following a six-year battle with cancer. She was born August 16, 1919 in Mt. Morris, PA a daughter of the late Charles Cameron and Nannie Nancy Kennedy King.
Mary retired from the WVU Physical Plant in 1980 with 28 years of service. She was a member of the Riverside Apostolic Church and had been active in the Jolly 60’s.
Mary is survived by one son, Clarence W. Lemley Jr. and wife Charlotte of Core, one daughter, Betty Jean Minney and husband Wayne of Morgantown, one step daughter, Edna Foley of Mt. Morris, PA, one brother, Charles C. King Jr. of Capon Bridge, WV, three grandchildren, David Lemley of Morgantown, and Robert and Ronald Lemley of Core, one step granddaughter, Charlotte Doreen Nesselrodt of Fort Seybert, WV, seven great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Her first husband of 26 years, Clarence W. Lemley Sr. and her second husband of thirty-five years, John W. Lemley, and one brother, David Paul King Sr, preceded Mary in death.
Friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8 PM Monday at the Riverside Apostolic Church and on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until the 11:00 AM Funeral service with Pastors David M. Hudson and Tim Turner officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Riverside Apostolic Church, P. O. Box 2069, Morgantown, WV 26502. Frances Erma Long Lowther, 87, of Union Church Hollow, Morgantown passed away on Saturday, June 7, 2008 at home. She was born October 12, 1920 in Hundred, a daughter of the late Charles R. and Mae Hostutler Long.
Frances was a homemaker and had worked at the Department of the Interior in Washington, D.C. during WWII while her husband was in the service.
She is survived by her children, Robert L. Lowther at home, Donna S. Tennant and spouse Allen D. Tennant of Pentress, Wendy K. Jenkins and Danny Lipscomb, Cindy F. Schrout and spouse Ed Schrout, and Richard C. Lowther and spouse Cathy Lowther, all of Morgantown; daughter-in-law Brenda L. Lowther of Morgantown; nine grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert N. Lowther, one son, James L. Lowther, and one grandson Jason Schrout.
Friends may call at the McCulla Funeral Home on Monday from 3-5 and 7-9 PM. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11:00 AM with Rev. Betty McBee officiating. Burial will follow at Beverly Hills Cemetery.

Charles B. Lemley Sr. age 80 of Fairmont Road, Morgantown, passed away Friday, April 2, 2010 at Sundale Nursing Home. He was born February 14, 1930 at Height Barnes on the River Road, a son of the late William Joseph and Goldie Opal Davis Lemley.
Charles was a retired machinist for Superior Fireplace in Baltimore, MD and a member of the Sniders Temple United Methodist Church in Georgetown. Charles enjoyed listening to bluegrass music and going to the Bluegrass festivals.
Charles is survived by four daughters Dorothy M. “Dottie” Jones and husband James of Granville, Rae M. Mincher of Sylvania, OH, Linda D. Koss of Pittsburgh, Rae M. Mincher of Sylvania OH. and Joan L. Miller and husband Glenn of Rivesville, one son Charles B. “Chuck” Lemley Jr. of Rivesville, two sisters, Wilma J. Massie of Jacksonville, FL and Pauline Jackson of Morgantown, four brothers, William Joseph Lemley Jr. of Grafton, Joseph Earl Lemley of Fairmont, Edward M. Lemley of Westover, and George Wayne Lemley of Rivesville, and grandchildren, Theresa L. Matthews, Shawna M. Mincher, Timara L. Mincher, James F. Jones Jr., and Tristan Miller Wierbinski, and great grandchildren, April J. Jones, Troy C. Addison, Alexandra M. Powell, and Samantha R. Mincher and one great great grandchild, Ky’Von Martin.
Charles was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Martha Christine James Lemley, sisters, Betty Lemley, Leola Davis, Jean Sewash and spouse Steve Sewash, and Wanda Sue Ann Kiger and spouse Joe Kiger Sr., a brother-in-law James Jackson, son-in-law William Mincher and grandson William Mincher Jr.
Friends may call at the McCulla Funeral Home on Saturday from 7-9 PM and on Sunday from 3-5 & 7-9 PM. Funeral services will be held at the McCulla Funeral Home on Monday at 11:00 AM with Pastor Isaac Harmon officiating. Burial will follow at Beverly Hills Cemetery Mausoleum. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Morgantown Hospice and Sundale Nursing Home for their love and care and in lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Sundale Nursing Home Palliative Care Center, 800 J. D. Anderson Drive, Morgantown, WV 26505.

Jo Claire Little, age 78 of Elysian Ave., Morgantown passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at her home. She was born April 28, 1930 in Morgantown a daughter of the late James and Iris Osbourne Markley.
She was a homemaker who enjoyed sewing. She was a member of the Morgantown Free Methodist Church and the Morgantown Order of the Eastern Star No. 35.
Jo Claire is survived by one son, Richard Little of Morgantown, two grandchildren, Richard Little II of Fairmont and Kimberly Owens of Gypsy, WV, two great grandchildren, Zack Owens and Brayden Owens both of Gypsy and a very close friend whom she considered an adopted daughter, Peggy Rowan of Morgantown.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Wallace Little in 2001, one daughter Carol Ann Little, one sister Jean McIntyre and two great grandchildren, Samatha Jo Little and Brittany Owens.
Friends may call at the McCulla Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4-8 PM and on Thursday from 9:30 AM until the 10:30 AM Funeral service with Rev. Bob Dickens officiating. Burial will follow at the WV National Cemetery at Pruntytown.

Hope Harper Loar, 96, formerly of The Village at Heritage Point, Morgantown, WV, died Monday, May 11, 2009.
She was born in Piedmont, WV, daughter of the late Delmar Curtis and Rosa Huffman Harper. Both families had lived in Pendleton County since the mid 1700’s. When Hope was two years old, her family moved back to Seneca Rocks in Pendleton County.
She was a graduate of St. John’s Academy in Petersburg, WV, Shenandoah College and Conservatory of Music in Dayton, VA, Shepherd College in Shepherdstown, WV, Potomac State College in Keyser, WV and West Virginia University School of Physical Education and Athletics.
In 1939 she married Jarrett Earl Loar of Morgantown and they remained in the area. Hope was a life-long member of the Seneca United Methodist Church at Onego, WV but while living in Morgantown, she was actively involved in the activities and mission of the Westover United Methodist Church. She was a member of the United Methodist Women and both she and her husband were members of the Friendly Service Class. She served as treasurer of the Scott’s Run Settlement House Board for several years and was a fifty-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 35 in Morgantown.
Hope is survived by a son and spouse, Barton and Carol Loar, of Morgantown; a daughter, Joann King, of Morgantown; two granddaughters, Elizabeth King of Richmond, VA and Holly Loar of Morgantown. In addition, she is survived by a niece, Rosanne Glover and spouse, John, of Petersburg, WV and a nephew, Joseph Harper and spouse, Carolyn, of Seneca Rocks, WV.
Hope was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jarrett Loar, and a brother, Bardon Harper.
Friends may call at the McCulla Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4-8 PM with the Order of the Eastern Star Services at 7:45 PM and on Thursday at the Westover United Methodist Church from 10:00 AM until the 11:00 AM Funeral service with Pastor Jo McCartney and Pastor Kevin Cain officiating. Burial will follow at East Oak Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Westover United Methodist Church, 28 North Street, Westover, WV 26501 or Hospice Care, 3363 University Avenue, Star City, 26505 or any charity of choice.
